I ordered 3 custom wedges from Carl's Golfland with clearly listed specs in the notes. I even ordered them knowing they were on backorder, so I was already being patient. What I didn't expect was having to follow up just to let them know the clubs came wrong. Their fix? Send me two more wedges... still wrong. From there it turned into a complete mess. THREE different employees got involved, and somehow each handoff made things worse. One reorders, another takes over with zero context, clearly never read the emails or documentation I already sent, and just keeps things moving knowing the clubs were already wrong. No communication, no ownership--just a cycle of confusion. Then they tell me to measure the clubs myself. That's where it really went downhill. I'm paying for custom-built clubs, and now I'm doing their quality control? So I did. I confirmed specs with TaylorMade and even paid a shop to measure everything. Taylor made even said they ordered them wrong. Specs should be true online even if it's a custom standard stock spec. While they said they talked with them. Not a single club was correct. After all that, the manager's solution is basically: send them back. No urgency. No accountability. No real apology. They tell me on the phone they have good customer relationship with TaylorMade. So what was hard to get it right the second time around. Here's what their mistake cost me: * 2 months of credit card interest * Gas running around fixing quality control their problem * Paying out of pocket to verify specs * Hours of wasted time I ordered these ahead of an international trip so I could practice. Now I have no time left and nothing usable because they couldn't get a basic order right. Meanwhile, I placed a similar order through PGA Tour Superstore--they got it right the first time and shipped fast. That's how it's supposed to work. So I can't blame TaylorMade because seems like they are doing their job right. If they get the order right with pga superstore and shipped it to me from their manufacturing facility. Seems like they're not the problem. And just to top it off--I also ordered an iron set from Carl's a while back. At this point, I'll probably have to get those checked too, because based on this experience, I wouldn't be surprised if they messed that up as well. Bottom line: If you're ordering anything custom, avoid Carl's Golfland. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Not worth talking to people who can't even do their job ordering without cross referencing manufacture specs. Like McDonald's gets my order partially correct. Not completely wrong. But still have the time to take care of customer's complaint. So who knows when my refund will be issued with compensation. This company just another company willing to take peoples money. We all know golf profit margins around 20-40%. I would never walk in there store or facility. Or even buy online from them again. read more

On Monday, June 15th I ordered a 50* Cleveland CBZ full face wedge with steel shaft and paid for upgraded shipping to get it benforce Fathers Day since it was intended as a gift. On Thursday the package arrived but it contained a 50* CBZ regular face wedge with graphite shaft. That's just the start of the issues. I immediately called Carl's and they were apologetic and said they would send out the correct wedge. A short time later I received an email from UPS saying a package would deliver Friday, 6/19. But tracking never updated Thursday or at anytime on Friday. I called Carl's again and their reason was it didn't make the truck on Thursday but would go out that day. Tracking never updated so I called Carl's Saturday morningand spoke to Austin. He said the package had shipped but no tracking and no info from ups. So it's Saturday evening, I have no gift to give. Supposedly the order is being refunded but I haven't seen that yet. There seems to be an extraordinarily high level of incompetence with Carl's and their online orders. Buyer beware. read more

Over the last 40 years, I've purchased most of my golf gear and clothing from Carl's, gone through multiple fittings, and regularly visited their driving range. This was my go-to place for golf....period. I'm recovering from a shoulder replacement, and I stopped in this morning to do a quick fitting and hopefully buy a set of senior shaft red dot Ping irons. I fully expected to walk out with a new set of irons, and possibly a couple hybrids. I explained what I wanted, but the salesman said I couldn't hit those specific irons. I get it, but what's the next step? He handed me a few standard lie irons and told me to see which one I liked. I hit a couple balls and as expected, it confirmed I needed a flatter lie club. He seemed pretty disinterested in taking the time to help, and offered no alternatives to "hit the ones that don't fit, and place an order for whatever you want". I found my own alternative. I drove down to PXG in Troy to check it out. I took advantage of an opening in the fitting schedule, had a terrific fitting, and ordered a couple thousand dollars worth of clubs. The bottom line is, Carl's lost today's sale, and the next purchase I'll make for a matching set...and probably clothing, balls, etc. Maybe they're not what they used to be...or maybe this particular sales guy needs to learn how to help customers. read more

Maybe I'm just not the right client for these guys. Stopped in today to see about purchasing a new set of clubs more set up for me. Current set up is just a cheaper Amazon Calloway set up and it's never quite felt right. So figured I'd get some pro help. Sat there for 10 minutes before anyone asked if I needed anything. Told him I was looking for a set of left handed clubs. He just pointed to a wall. So I walked over and he never bothered coming. No one else even said 2 words to me. I was obviously looking and handling the clubs but no one asked me anything. After 25 minutes and just watching the handful of employees jabber with each other I just left. I gave 2 stars because it looked like a very nice selection. Guess I'll never know if any of them would actually fit me better than my current set up. read more

This review is for their online store as I have only shopped at their website. I have found the prices to be fair and the same or even lower than other major golf retailers. I have bought clothes, clubs, and my rangefinder from here. They were able to price match the rangefinder as they have a Low Price Guarantee. One unique thing they do is they will include some golf accessories with their branding with every order which I find to be pretty cool. I have gotten tees, a poker chip ball marker, an orange sharpie, and a golf ball line marker. I hope to be able to visit in person one day! read more

We stopped by here with my FIL to help him find some golf shoes for his upcoming game with his golf league. A good selection of golf shoes and some even on discount. Needed something to accommodate my FIL's higher instep. Wider shoes tend to be more comfy for him. It's the arch opening that's key, makes my FIL's foot feel cramped. My FIL was able to find a few options to pick from in the end. Was able to get at least one golf shoe on discount today. Will keep looking for a full price shoe too. The staffer helping with our dad's shoes was quick and efficient and helpful too. Found a pair of blue new balance that fit my FIL well and gray Sketchers too. Went with the gray sketchers and blue New balances too, since the canvas Addidas will get dirty quickly. My FIL also looked at some driver's too. He had to hand his driver's license to hit at the range with some different woods and drivers. I don't get why there is a random shark head by the irons and woods in the store though. Tried a senior select flex shaft Calloway and my FIL liked how it hit too. Ended up with two golf shoes for $201+, not too bad. He should be set for the season. read more

I had a bizarre experience buying a new driver at Carl's, and am feeling a bit of purchase regret. I showed up asking for some specific drivers that I knew are forgiving (mostly draw-biased), and even mentioned that my club head speed isn't great, so I'd be interested in trying a senior flex shaft despite being in my mid 30s and in good shape. I have no shame -- if I can get a bit of help from the equipment, I'll take it. But the salesperson kinda sized me up and outright refused to give me anything with a senior shaft, and even though I asked again after testing 3 drivers and showing him my rather unimpressive driving numbers on the Trackman app (I also found it weird that he didn't let me use a launch monitor even though they weren't busy and I was buying a brand new driver)... he said he still didn't want to put me into a senior shaft because "you won't like it when you get better." I ended up grabbing my favorite out of those 3 drivers and comparing it with a 4th option, and bought the one I hit best out of those two because I felt a bit of pressure (I had been there for almost 90 minutes and needed to get back to work) and the salesman wasn't listening to me. While the driver I ended up with is fine, I'm feeling a bit of regret for not at least trying a senior flex shaft and seeing if it would help me. It was so weird that the salesperson just outright refused to let me try one even though I asked twice, and now I'm wondering if I made a mistake. They have a great selection and a nice range (love the Trackman app), but I probably wouldn't buy a new club from them again since they refused to let me try some options I was interested in, and felt pressure to buy what the salesperson steered me towards. read more

My experience got worse ! After spending over $2,500, I decided to try and return 2 wedges that I purchased because I wasn't happy with them. They bought them back and instead of the "in store credit" for the $220 that I got for the wedges, I asked that that money be put back on my credit card. And they did. So afterwards I decided to purchase new wedges to replace the ones I returned. So I purchased 2 new wedges for $282.72. Then a week later they emailed me and said that the Wedges that I just purchased have been discontinued and they canceled my order ! But instead of refunding my credit card they said it had to be "store credit"!! Now at this point I was done dealing with their BS and insisted that the money be put back on my card...After 2 weeks and finally getting ahold of an executive in the company I was able to get reimbursed properly instead of their BS "store credit" scam !!!! That's holding YOUR MONEY for ransom to force you to use it there !!!! Then after acting all nicely nice on the phone the executive had me blocked from using their website !! Went here to buy irons. Place was packed as always. Doug was my salesman. Despite the crowd, took the time to help me customize a set. He said with Covid it would be 2-3 wks. Well, I stopped in to hit some balls and they told me it would be 8 WEEKS!!! I wouldn't have ordered them if I knew it would be that long, so I told them to cancel my order. I was approached by Jason, looked like a manager. He said he would look into it. Apparently, with Covid the shafts were adding all the time to the order. He called the Callaway company and found a combo of stuff that would be ready in 2 wks. He called me and we kept the order. In 2008 a friend told me to go to this place called Carl's Golfland since I was replacing a set of clubs that were stolen from my vehicle. Well,12 years later, I find myself back at Carl's with an equally pleasant experience. Jason K took care of me today. If I could give anyone advice when they're visiting Carl's during Demo Days (which was just when the weather is breaking, post pandemic), Pack. Your. Patience. There are hundreds of people there trying to fulfill their golf needs simultaneously. If you're coming in for just a glove, it's an "in and out". But my need today was a more complicated club fitting. But as you can see by the five stars, it is well worth it. After swinging several clubs and finding my choice, Jason K. escorted me to the Launch Pad -- the personal fitting area that looks like something straight from the Golf Channel. For someone who is buying new clubs, it is simply a best-in-class experience. I stopped by Golf Galaxy prior to coming to Carl's and they're set up was much more like your buddy helping you at an indoor golf range. At Carl's-- It's like going from the high school to the Pros. Went here for a scheduled shaft fitting and it really wasn't what I expected. They only tried one brand of shafts with me and didn't go over any numbers with me and what we were looking for in a particular shaft. Pretty much just had me hit balls and gave me no information moving forward. For such a pricy fitting I did expect much more when it came down to the fitting itself. The instructor never really gave me and type of feedback on much of anything, just told me when and when not to swing. After the fitting I discussed with a friend of mine and he stated that Miles of Golf in Ypsi was the far better option for price and customer service. I haven't yet tried the place but with how things have gone in the past I am considering. The facility was great and that's honestly why this review is getting 2 stars. The best part of carls is the facility itself but I can't say I'd recommend it for the fittings. Maybe it was the instructor just not being too involved or maybe he was having a rough day but for the money I paid I expected much more. read more

Excellent service received yesterday by Doug who assisted us in finding the correct driver for my wife. He was very attentive to our needs even though he was juggling a few customers at a time. Golfers must have been out in force spending their stimulus money as the place was jammed on a Monday afternoon. After hitting a few different drivers, my wife narrowed down her selections to two favorites and then was taken out to a separate area to hit a few more shots with each club and finally with Doug's expert assistance she made her final selection. The establishment accepts and encourages the use of tap and pay which also made for a very smooth transaction. Oh and did I mention Carl's usually has the best prices on clubs and as luck would have it, the one she selected was actually on sale! We will return! read more

I bought an Epic driver last year and loved it! A few days ago the crown of the driver popped and the fiberglass split. I was devastated. I took the driver in to the St. John location and Mike said I should have a replacement in 1-2 weeks. I explained that I was getting married in 5 days and was planning to play a round with some family earlier in the day. Mike said he would see what he could do. Not even 24 hours later I received a phone call that my new driver was ready to be picked up! The customer service here is top notch! This companies does the print the shipping label, but doesn't actually ship it. Ordered a couple of clubs. When inquired I was told I was wrong and that's how things work. So first and last time I'll be purchasing. Why do companies do this? If it takes 3 weeks fine, but don't print the label until you actually give it to the delivery company. Not a very good experience with Carl's Golfland I ordered a set of irons off their website, showed they were in stock and I would have them in 2 days The next day I get an email and they tell me they don't actually have them and would I want a different item. They in fact did have what I ordered if they really wanted to fix the problem. They could have broken up another set and given me what I wanted but they chose not to do so. I get that isn't ideal for them but the customer should come first, especially once you have accepted an order. Being in the service industry myself if we take an order for something and there is anyway we can fill it as quoted/promised we do. It is called excellent customer service. Obviously that is not what is important to them. Now I know their priorities I will just take my business elsewhere. read more

Interesting since I paid in full for everything as they would not have ordered it otherwise. Than she says I can't have my club unless I pay the $5.50, I will never shop there again. read more
