No one likes to go to the dentist. I had been delaying some "repair work", but was reluctantly recruited by Carlsbad Coastal Dental's friendly office crew. Once in the operating chair, my skeptical negativity must have been annoying to Dr Thylin, as he patiently answered my doubting questions about the necessity of the procedure. I had no reason to view Dr Thylin's masterful work until my normal bedtime teeth brushing routine. And much to my delight and amazement, there in the mirror was a renewed face, with no crooked gaps and an unfamiliar beautiful smile. Wow! Respect for your skillful and diligent work, Dr Thylin. I have had the hardest time trusting dentists as my childhood dentist always seemed to "find" new cavities in my mouth every visit. It got to the point where in my early 20s l stopped going altogether for 5 years because l didn't believe there would be an honest dentist that didn't invent cavities in my mouth. Through getting an adult Invisaline retainer they referred me to another dentist (who was also great but then retired later) who then referred me to Dr. Thylin's practice. I haven't ever had a cavity while coming here religiously (every 6 mos) for the past 4 years. We are planning to move to the Murrieta are in the future and I would still drive here each time due to the experience l get here. The dental hygienists and the front office ladies are always super friendly and pleasant. I always recommend this place because overall, it's as enjoyable as a dental visit should be. And l don't have to worry about them doing anything they shouldn't. read more

I was a patient of them for years!!! UNTIL I had to get a referral for a work they don't provide in this location. it was a nightmare getting a referral from them. At the end I had to switch dentist because they didnt wanna give me what I was asking for (referral). They just wanted me to see a specialist they recommended who is out of my network and would not be covered by my insurance. I do not understand how an off can decline to refer you to someone that is under your insurance because "they don't work with them" this really sounds like a conflict of interest. maybe they have some kind of agreement on only sending to one provider. it sad that they prefer to have me in pain then to just give me a referral to another provider in my insurance network. read more

This was my primary dentist for several years and I always had good cleanings with them. I have a new type of insurance this year that they do not accept, unfortunately, so I have been trying to find a new dentist where I am covered and it has been quite a challenge. I started coming to CCD because my usual dentist's office was closed due to COVID. I was referred by a coworker to Dr. Thylin because one of my molar crowns had fallen off, so needed to urgently see someone. I am not a fan of the dentist and have had horrible experiences in the past getting work done which has caused me to have severe anxiety during and leading up to my appointments. I wanted to give a huge shoutout to this office for making my crown replacements so smooth. My previous crowns were getting older and, aesthetically, did not match the rest of my other teeth. Dr. Thylin did an amazing job during the appointments and you can't even tell I have crowns in the back because they match so well. The office has CEREC technology so my crowns were fitted and made all in the same appointment which I have never had before. This was great because I only had to have one visit for the crown which helps reduce my pain and anxiety :) My bite with the new crowns feels great as well! Dr. Thylin's administrative staff is very flexible and have been really great with scheduling around my work schedule. Trina at the front is always so nice and understanding. She was very upfront about the costs for my crowns and how I wanted to go about paying for them (separate the payments/appointments or all at once). read more

They returned my call promptly and, as busy as they were, fit us in. We were told we might have to wait since they were squeezing us in, but we were quickly seen. Consider this an insider's view. I had the opportunity to substitute for Carlsbad Coastal and was very impressed. Dr. Thylin is the kind of dentist I wish they all were. Dr. Thylin stands out among other dentists. You will notice there are many extras in an exam with him that are included at the same price. In a first appointment with him he will do both x-rays and intra-oral pictures. The pictures take only 2 minutes and create a record of your teeth that x-rays cannot show. At every exam he will do an exam of your head, neck, and mouth to screen for cancer. This is something many dentists skip to save 5 minutes of time, but you will appreciate if you've ever known someone with oral cancer. Dr. Thylin is a dentist who truly cares for his patients. You will feel that in every appointment with him. He does not make snap decisions, so if you are looking at some serious work needed, he will actually take the time to review your case and make a plan to bring you to health and reach your goals. You will never worry weather you actually need a treatment as you may have with other dentists. He is conservative and doesn't treat unnecessarily to make an extra buck. He has a quiet yet confident and professional manner. He is not pushy in the least. He will tell you what needs to be done, the options to treat problems, and what he would do if it were him. I was in Dr. Thylin's office for a crown after I fractured my tooth. I've been to many dinners, and this was hands-down the best experience I've ever had at a dentist office. Dr. Thymine prepped the tooth and then created the crown on the computer. No waiting for the lab, as he milled the crown onsite. I walked away from the procedure able to eat a steak dinner! Before I tell you about Dr. Thylin, I gotta give you the set up. I have one of those mouths of teeth from old Mother Ireland, in other words, small and weak and brittle. Add to that a childhood of Captain Crunch, braces (bad for short roots!!! now they tell me!), and some freaky thing called ideopathic resorbtion where your body sucks out the insides of your teeth, and well, it's not pretty. I have had four periodontists tell me to take all my teeth out, ALL OF THEM! Needless to say I have not. Also, needless to say, I have probably sat in more dentist chairs more times than most. I know all the diagnosis in my mouth, so I come informed. Anyway, I recently relocated to CA from back east and found Dr. Thylin. It seems many dentists have become the used car salesmen of medicine and try to upsell you in the chair. So, I was wary going in. Also, there were no yelp listings for him but another yelp recommended periodontist recommended him, so I went in. Dr. Thylin's office is clean and modern, the staff is comfortable, competent, and cozy, and all the usual things you hope for in a dentist office like no blood splattered on the walls were in place. Dr. Thylin took a look in my mouth and we had a long conversation about my dental history. I told him what had been recommended and that I wanted damage control and help that wouldn't require a mortgage. He was very thoughtful and insightful, offering a treatment plan that I could afford, and that seemed reasonable to me, given what I know about my teeth. I have to tell you that this guy knows his stuff. And by that, I mean he was able to come up with practical solutions to some very vexing problems. He did a couple of things that he said would last a year, but they were inexpensive and diagnostic, and would help us to decide where to go from there. This was a quantum leap from what I had been hearing from the other guys. From them it was either no teeth or a forty thousand dollar solution to keeping them. Dr. Thylin has a little more pragmatic approach, slightly McGuyverish maybe, but that is just what is needed in a budget minded approach to broken, crappy teeth. As for the chairside manner, he is GENTLE and calming. No jabbing needles. Did you know if you go slow, novacaine doesn't have to hurt going in? He goes slow. He is also young, muscle-y and pretty, which will matter to some of you. Oh...and married. Anyway, it's not hard to get an appointment. I think he is just starting out maybe, so it's seems not that busy. As an experienced dental customer, I highly recommend this guy. Best of all, it wasn't expensive. By the way, most of you will start out with the hygenist. She was great, although there was a little upsell pitch there for an electric toothbrush they offer. I said no thanks and she dropped it, and didn't make me feel like a loser for my choice of standard brushing. Other than that, glad to say, no upsell at all! read more

Had some bad experiences here. Thought Dr Thylin proved himself to be a good and attentive dentist, but there were too many problems... --overcharged in the office. Most dentist allow insurance billing to go through, then send a bill. This office wants payment at time of service, so I was overcharged many times and it was a mess trying to figure out later. -this office isn't open everyday. They have unconventional hours, so beware of that. -my daughter had her teeth cleaned by a hygentist, (Alexa, I believe). She used the pressure machine, not only causing pain during the cleaning, but terrible pain for months after! We went back several times, but no remedies were available. After these experiences, we left. Good dentist, but we need the whole package. read more

The hygienist, Veronica, is great, also very gentle and thorough, and gives you helpful advice on products to use (but no sales pitches). Very nice office, with Pandora on the headphones if you want music during your procedure, sunglasses and a pillow for your comfort. The staff is great! The entire staff in the office is very nice, polite & helpful. Scheduling is a breeze & i've never had a long wait in the front. I cant even get past a few pages of their magazines when they call me in. Veronica, my hygienist is very gentle & thorough. Feels like i get a teeth massage everytime i come in for routine cleanings. Dr. Thylin comes after the hygienist is done to double check & recommend any procedure. The care packages they give is a nice treat (brush, paste & floss). Ha. So the receptionist at the front desk.. lets start with a back track story. 3 months ago my daughter had a cleaning appt. As I wait in the waiting room for about an hour this lady sat here and gossiped the wholeeee time with her fellow coworker receptionist. I'm pretty sure I even tweeted about her being so damn Chatty Cathy. Fast forward to our appointment today.. I'm sitting in the waiting room with NO other patients. Just me by myself. I hop on my phone to watch a video that wasn't even inappropriate, literally it was about gummy candy. Had my volume about 1/2 way (granted there is music playing in the waiting area) ms Chatty Cathy has the audacity to say "excuse me!" To get my attention and then says "do you have earphones?" Ummm no B, I don't, why? Is this too loud? And she said "yes, it is" I chuckled as I remembered my last visit here and ALLLLL the personal conversations she was having behind the desk. But yet my video about gummy candy is too loud? SMH. WOW. Time to break this 2.5 year relationship up and find somewhere else to go. read more

I was referred to Dr Thylin's office back in January 2016. My experience continues to be exceptionally pleasant. The staff at the front desk and the dental assistants are all very knowledgeable and friendly. Dr Thylin is also friendly and knowledgeable. All the equipment in his dental office looked like state-of-the-art equipment. Since January, I've had a check up with x-rays, and a full cleaning. The Hygienist did an excellent job with my deep cleaning. I've also seen Dr Thylin a few times to take care of some cavities and to replace some old fillings. Dr Thylin's has also started on a bridge in the back of my lower jaw. I currently have a temporary bridge that he put in. He did an excellent job on the temporary, I imagine the permanent bridge will be twice as good or even better. I just wanted to formally thank Dr Thylin and his staff for their professionalism and friendly atmosphere. I would not hesitate to recommend his office to all my family and friends. Only go here if you are looking for a place where they make you feel taken care of. I am extremely particular about my dentist - this is the best office I've ever been to. The front desk is friendly and actually seem to care about their patients and Debbie and Dr Thylin were wonderful. They go thru everything with you and show you pictures of the before during and after. I was in the chair for 3 hours and literally fell asleep several times - thats never happened to me before. This dental office is a great! It's a nice office space in N. Carlsbad which I personally like. Second, the receptionist Aeysha (I hope I spelled it right), is so kind. She always welcomes the patients with a smile, and instantly makes a person feel comfortable through conversation. I love that because there are so many receptionists that have a dry personality, so it refreshing to see someone who is more engaging. Dr. Thylin is so sweet and my kids finally love to go to the dentist. For the longest time my kids hated going to the dentist because of how the conversations with the dentist usually went. Dr. Thylin attentively hears what we have to say, and addresses all of our concerns in a way that doesn't scare off children. Also, they are quite prompt with their services. When my husband had cracked a tooth late in the afternoon, they were able to get him in the following morning for the dental repair. That's amazing! The members of this office are always on point to give out the appointment reminders and even follow up with calls and texts. They even do everything in their power to get everyone in our family in together for an appointment to prevent us from having to make multiple trips. Not only is Dr. Thylin the best dentist I have ever had but his staff is equally professional and always greet you with a smile. Dr. T goes above and beyond to make sure you are as comfortable as possible during your visit to the office. I hate going to the dentist but I definitely dread it alot less because Dr. Thylin is great. He's very gentle and my teeth are sensitive and he's always so accommodating to that. I love all of his staff too. They are all great at explaining everything in a way that I can understand and I never feel pressured by to get extra procedures done. His rates also seem very reasonable compared to other dentists I've seen in the past. I've been seeing Dr. Thylin for almost 2 years now and I couldn't imagine going to someone else.
