Great parking and parking attendant. Got three Groupons and saved lots of money. Great for families with ping pong and basketball courts while you wait or take break from water. Got water cycle and that was so slow. Legs were moving but Seems like it took forever to move Bc of jet ski track. Also got a stand up paddle board, hard to stay on Bc of proximity of jet ski track and wake. Got dunked twice. Also got a dual kayak which was the best option of the three crafts Bc it was able to move faster and survive waves from jet skis. Overall worth the drive and money. read more

OMG!!! This is my new favorite spot. I came down for a work party last week and had such a blast. I had to come back again on my own. This was my first time on the waverunners. The guys on the beach were very helpful and taught me everything I needed to know to be comfortable on the waverunners. They were pretty cute too. I really have mixed feelings on this place, after a recent experience. We have done their boating and wakeboarding about 6-8 times, and it has always been a STELLAR experience. The boats are great, the equipment is top-of-the-line, and the drivers/instructors are terrific (they all also happen to be named "Josh."). Also, how do you beat the location and accessibility? Nothing but GREAT things to say about the boats, drivers and wakeboarding -- they do a really nice job and seem to care about customer service. However, we recently rented a wave runner (jet ski) one morning after boating to give one of the 8 year olds their first experience being a passenger on one. Nobody else was out on the water, and the beach employee who gave us the orientation EXPRESSLY told us we could go "any direction" we wanted until others were out. Not even 5 minutes later, a very rude and arrogant "Jackson" came out and yelled at us. I had no issue with his request, but he handled it VERY poorly, and when I asked that he please correct the other employee, he made a very unpleasant remark and left. It really just kind of ruined our fun. When back at the beach (we decided to be done shortly thereafter, only after about 10 minutes of the 30 minutes paid for), I made a comment to him (after "interrupting" him on the beach in his chair reading a magazine and barking orders to other "customers"), and again, he handled it poorly. I asked him to have the owner call me, which never happened. I don't think we'll be spending any more money at Carlsbad Lagoon so long as they employ such unprofessional employees such as "Jackson," as the possibility of running across him again is just too unpleasant. My recommendation would be to enjoy the boating/wakeboarding, but steer clear of ANY beach or wave runner activities -- they seem to have younger and less professional employees there. read more

The Carlsbad Lagoon sits right off the 5 freeway and serves as a place for some fun on the water. It's located off a residential road and there isn't much parking down there, so it can get busy if you don't get there early. The place that rents out stuff is located right off the water and they are open every day of the week. In my opinion I think what they charge to rent equipment is quite crazy for the amount of time. My friend wanted to come here to try out stand up paddle boarding, so we went with prices anyway. To rent a stand up board for two hours is $50 per board. (Yikes). The passive use area for boards takes about 40 minutes to paddle out to from the shore. Once you get out there, there is a really large open area for exploring the lagoon. We made the mistake of going on a day where it was supposed to reach the high 90s. So we didn't really explore the lagoon too long because the sun was cooking us. Anyhow, the lagoon was a fun place to try out stand up boards for the first time. The water is relatively clean and is quite warm in the summer time. I just think the place is a bit more aimed towards tourists considering it cost so much to rent the equipment. I wouldn't come back here anytime soon, but I did have a fun time. read more

Dear tourists, please continue North to the Oceanside Harbor or South to Mission Bay. You'll be treated better. I live near this place and I keep hoping it will get better. It hasn't. The equipment is poorly maintained. They say they fix it, but they don't fix it well. For example, kayaking there the other day, the straps for the seats weren't adjustable and instead were tied up in knots. Another time before, the paddle boat broke its rudder making it hard to get back to shore. Asking for a refund or credit didn't go anywhere either. Don't blame the staff; they're poorly trained and managed kids. I accept that some places are in business to take advantage of tourists and I don't like that sort of thing. That's why I suggest other places like boats4rent in the Oceanside Harbor, since they are friendly, professional, and maintain their boats. The Catamaran at Sail Bay in Pacific Beach has fun sailboats which are in good shape and with friendly, nice staff. Also on Mission Bay the Pacific Boat Rentals folks could teach these kids a bit about jetskis and waverunners. I really hope the owners take a visit to other places and notice how different the experience can be. That might help them with their reputation, and they won't need to waste as much money on Groupon and Amazon Local advertisements, and instead might build more loyal customers. read more

This place is so much fun and a perfect place to enjoy the beach all to yourself. The jet skis are a blast, but pricey at 95 bucks for an hour. Kayaking is probably the best bargain here at $20 per hour and is really the best way to explore the lagoon. Because things are so expensive I wouldn't suggest planning to spend an entire day here, but it's great if you have time on a weekend afternoon. read more

Worst customer service ever! We bought a groupon online and decided to use it on the aqua bike and kayak we got both for 2hrs we were out on the water for 45min and decided to come in for lunch. Once we came in we asked if we can break up our hour and we were told "no once u bring it in ur time is up" we told them we rented for 2hrs and only used 45min they didn't care we went in to talk to the front desk and the girl at the desk said "well u got a groupon deal so there's nothing I can do its up to the guys outside" so basically we were treated like 2nd class people because we participated in their online advertisement. I purchased a Groupon redeemable for 2 hours of Paddle boarding or Kayaking at Carlsbad Lagoon and decided to give it a whirl. The overall environment is relaxed and chill. The woman at the front desk was helpful and the man who issued the equipment was informative and gave us a great tutorial on paddle boarding (it was our first time). The lagoon wasn't too crowded, we were able to move along without interruption. About halfway through our adventure, we pulled up to the side of the lagoon, docked our vessels and went for a swim - fun and relaxing. I would definitely recommend Carlsbad Lagoon to all looking for a fun and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. Five stars! read more

Carlsbad Lagoon is so fun!!! My husband was celebrating his birthday and we were trying to come up with semi local fun options when I found this. I've driven past it like a bajillion times going down to Mex/SD and back and it always looked like fun but never checked it out. So we went down, grabbed some lunch and went to the Lagoon to rent a couple of WaveRunners. We found a great front row spot, went into the rental office and $300 deposit and $205 later we were putting on vests, getting the safety lessons and assisted to our water bikes. The Lagoon has a lot of other rentals as well but the center area is buoyed off just for the WaveRunners. Woot! There are people just hanging out on the little beach, kids playing the water, SUP all over, a few foot pedal water devices, and some folks enjoying the patio settings which are rented as well. A very nice, happy scene. We took off on our runners and terrorized the waves. We went in the middle section which is set aside for people to do donuts and tricks and frolicked there, too. My husband kept spraying me and flying past me because he was standing up on his runner and at one point he attempted a Super Splash then ended up being flung into the water! Awesome! There are staff all around keeping an eye out and a guy on a runner immediately caem over to help. People were flying off their runners constantly so the staff were kept busy but they are very watchful which is great. Color us one pair of cheap sunglasses and a brand new set of Chums donated to the Lagoon. Ha ha ha. That's a story I'll tell forever, sorry honey. Anyway, we were having a blast and then the staff came over to tell us our time was up. Darn. Probably a good thing because my arms and his legs were super sore for the next few days! The price you pay for having an absolute blast. I totally recommend the Lagoon, staff were great, and we will definitely come back. read more

I called about their Groupon Special for a Canoe rental. After several questions I'm told I can't use it for Fishing.

1st time here at Carlsbad Lagoon. Came to SUP, we brought our own boards but we're charge a permit fee $10 + $8 for launching fee per board. Geez! Adds up because we brought 4 boards with us. Should have went to mission bay. The prices here are on the higher end for most of their rentals. They have a small parking lot located right by the beach. So if you arrive early enough you can snag a spot. If not, there is parking right outside but then you have to carry your stuff down a hill. There is A restroom- 1 for women & 1 for men. A small store for drinks and other miscellaneous stuff you might need. Good points: it's a safe place for kids to splash around. They have many people out in the water and on the beach monitoring the use of equipment. Tables & chairs are available(plenty of chairs only a few tables) Get there early to get a picnic bench. 1 volleyball court set up on the west side of the lagoon & a ping pong table located next to the store. read more

I have lived in the village in Carlsbad for 27 years and have always wanted to see what the water sports at the lagoon was all about. Well I finally took the time to take my 5 year old son kayaking for an hour. Cost was $21.00 and some cents. The staff was super friendly, however when it came to kayaking (my first time ever) I received no instruction except to stay on the left side of the buoys. We made it to Bayshore Drive in about 1/2 hour then came back. We had a blast seeing the fish jump out of the water and exploring the innards of the lagoon. We'll be back. read more

So we were driving by this lagoon and decided to stop and rent a waverunner. Everyone seemed really nice and were actually having a great time. While riding the waverunner we noticed two girls weren't on their waverunners but they didn't seem in trouble so we kept going. After circling around a few times they were still in the water so we circled back to check on them. When we got close they were waving us over and they seemed really tired it turned out they couldn't reach their waverunner so I let them hang on to mine and I swam to theirs while my girlfriend stayed with ours. When someone finally came out they didn't ask what happened he just started getting on me for being closer than 100 feet within another rider. After finally trying to explain several times he understood and was able to lift one girl ant take her back. I then grabbed the other girl and took her back on her own waverunner. Another guy came out and met me and he again told me to not go close to other waverunner. When I told him they were in the water for quite some time and waving me over he said "oh ok, well next time don't go over". That's the response I get for helping two women who clearly needed it when they couldn't respond after the girls were clearly in need of help for quite some time. When we all got to shore I asked if I could get more time since we spent 15 minutes helping out these girls. The first guy said yes of course and went to tell the guy overseeing everything. That guy came back saying I'll give you 5 minutes. I was obviously upset saying we spent more time than that and he shakes his head AS IF I WAS TRYING TO CHEAT THEM!!! Unbelievable how cocky this kid was trying to be after my girlfriend and I were assisting people in need after these people were entirely too slow in helping them. Could have been a great time but the people managing the situation were un sympathetic and completely ridiculous in how they handled this situation. At least the sweet women thanked us for doing their job. read more

This place is the best!!! I went here with my wife, my 2 1/2 year daughter, and my 6 year old son. This was the highlight of our trip to La Costa. We rode jetskis went tubing and wakeboarding behind a boat. Our guide Colin was amazing. Super patient teaching everyone to wakeboard. Just the most fun day! Loved it. If I was able to give more stars I would. I have driven by this place at least 40 times on the way to and from SD and finally decided to give it a shot, it was awesome! My wife got some killer deal on groupon for a rental here, we went and had a blast!!! we used the deal on a stand up paddle board but there were all kinds of options like kayaks and big water bikes and peddleboats to chose from. While the family was switching off from loungeing under palopas on the beach and useing the SUP(stand up paddle board) I rented one of the nice new waverunners they have down there. Carlsbad Lagoon is a perfect spot for the entire family. We've rented the jet skis, kayaks and hydro bikes. The staff is friendly, and the vibe is laid back and relaxed. We also appreciate the water toys. Last time it was gigantic hamster wheel that was tethered. Our kids had so much fun. This time it is a gigantic lily pad. A bit like trying to walk on a water bed. Came back here last weekend for the second time and it was better than the first! We called in and reserved a wakeboarding lesson, showed up 15 minutes early and the guys had everything ready for us! The boat, the gear, and the best spot in southern California to wakeboard. We had 2 great hours with coach Jason. He even taught my nephew how to wakeboard for the first time!! Woo hoo. We made sure to tip our coach for an amazing time. We didn't want to leave so we chilled on the beach, rented stand up paddle boards (SUP) and stayed until sun down. Really fun once you get through the check in process! Go on Groupon to get best rental rates! Be aware that if you're a first time paddle boarder, you want to go on off times/days. They allow boating and jet skis in the same area (they designate a section for them) so it creates waves. I think it's the best part, in addition to the jumping fish!, but it's not for the very first timers. Currents/winds can also add to the difficulty level. It is such a little Carlsbad gem! Only con is the check in process is always a mess. Teenagers run the office, which is totally fine- what a fun summer job! But that's the type of service you get. No one really cares much- it's just what do you what to do, pay this, sign this waiver, oh stand in a huge line while there are three people behind the desk and only one actually working, sorry, and then a total mess and cluster to actually get in the water. I was wading into the water with peddle boats, jet skis, 5 paddle boards, and they're like here you go, find your way out. Not exactly safe or organized entry. But once you're out there, SO much fun! read more

We had a reservation for a boat for waterskiing/wakeboarding. Our party was large enough that we needed to split into two smaller groups, but our driver, JP, helped us figure out how to divide the time so that everybody got to go. Had a great time and the guys gave us just enough instruction to get some folks up out of the water on the boards. The skis...not so much, but mostly due to its high initial difficulty, which he did warn us about. The lagoon itself wasn't very crowded that day so it made for a vast expanse to roam around with perfect conditions. Planning to go back soon to try out the SUPs there. read more

Way overpriced. 3 people cost 180 to paddleboard for 2 hours? Although we only wanted one hour, they force you to paddle around lagoon to the far end-and the problem is that you face headwinds on the return and it takes you over one hour to return. You cannot goose your own paddling route as they have metal is and boats in the immediate vicinity. Paddled with 2 ten year olds and they were able to do it,but 2 hours of paddling would have been too much. Still we had to pay for two as they indicated that we couldn't get back in one hour. Man! Today has been so beautiful I had to take advantage of it. We were feeling a kayaking adventure so we headed over to the Carlsbad Lagoon for some water fun and a good arm workout. The staff is really friendly and helpful, had all the gear we needed (life jackets, oars, etc) and went over the rules quickly so we could get to our self-guided tour of the lagoon. You can rent anything from wave runners to peddle boats. We took out a double seater kayak and hugged the bank around the left side and kayaked all the way around the bend back where the houses start to get neat to look at. I love the far back side where the houses back up to a row of docks. The views were stunning! It would be a great date idea or a fun way to start a weekend morning. I'll be heading back soon!
