I was seriously injured (three broken ribs and a broken sternum, plus soft tissue damage) and my wife was significantly hurt when another jet skier t-boned us, before we even made one lap around the jet sky area. It was our first time jet skiing, we were anxious, but the workers at CA Water Sports assured us we were safe. CA Water Sports had way too many jet skiers in the water and they were not effectively monitoring the jet skiers, because they were driving recklessly, dangerously and wildly. I was unable to talk immediately after the accident and was rushed to the hospital via ambulance, but the police interviewed a CA Water Sports employee, who completely lied to police about what happened. I don't know if the guy who hit us paid the employee off, but I have a lifelong condition with my ribs now, and spent over $40,000 in medical bills. CA Water Sports didn't even reimburse me the cost of renting the jet sky. When you sign a liability release, recognize that you are doing business with an unethical organization that will not protect you, will lie to protect themselves, and does not take any ownership for creating a safe environment. For your own sake and those you love or who love you, go to a place that is safe, and trust your intuition if you feel your safety could be at-risk. read more

My friend and I went Paddle Boarding there yesterday and it was great. Kelly (the guy that works the desk/rentals) was extremely helpful and friendly. We were anticipating Paddle Boarding to be very difficult but we just hopped right on and didn't fall off (until we decided to mess around at the end). It was a great way to work out and get a tan. I definitely recommend taking a day off in the middle of the week and paddling out to the middle of the lagoon for some sun and peace and quiet. Great place! We can't wait to go back! read more

This place is awesome! It was a great experience for first timers! What made our experience even better was the friendly and helpful staff!! All of them were so kind and sweet and were of great help to us, the guy was kindly enough to let me have some sunscreen since I left mine at my hotel room, & took care of my phone while jetskiing, inside the shop they have a variety of things incase you forget to bring something! I had a great time with the family. We rented kayaks, paddle boards, hydro bikes and even a pair of jet skies. The crew was absolutely amazing and seem like they love their jobs. They were helpful and patient and very caring. One of the kids (and I) paddle boarded too far out away and they went to ask if we were okay and needed help getting back. I really enjoyed the variety of activities and the set up. We also enjoyed playing basketball, beach volleyball and even some rounds of ping pong. This place has picnic benches and lounge chairs. Been here twice now, both times for a group event & it's been awesome both times! You can bring your grill for your grillables & of course all your extras, set up shop on a spot (come early so you can stake your claim)! Everyone can either just chill at the spot or do various water sports as they please (prices varies) This time I think we only did kayaks but the previous time I think we did just about everything they offer which is a good selection of water fun activities. There's a boat ramp for those who have their own boats & equipment, just makes sure you don't hang out down there cause no one wants to get run over! This place is fun!! I came here for a friend's birthday, and she reserved the deck overlooking the water for the day. They offer water trikes, wakeboarding, kayaks, SUP and jetski rentals...we used a Groupon so it was pretty inexpensive! My sister and I did SUP, and we paddled out across the lagoon, stopping at a few sandy beaches along the water's edge when we needed a break. As for heading back to shore/deck, everyone makes it sound like paddling back is SO HARD, it's not! Try SUP out in the ocean, it's way crazier with the currents. We had a blast!! Very chill spot, wasn't too crowded and we BBQ'd it up after we worked up an appetite from all our water shenanigans. They also allow alcohol as long as it's not in a glass container. :) Very fun!! In town from Sacramento, had to make a stop at the lagoon and try out some paddle boarding ! Got a groupon which was awesome such a good deal. Jake helped us out super rad guy! saw a lot of fish jumping, really wanted one to flop onto my board. Maybe next time! All in all I would give this place 6 out of 5 stars if I could but I didn't see any sting rays or seals! Can't wait to make the move down to Carlsbad next summer, my boyfriend and I are going to be regulars for sure. But it gets busy on weekends so we will make sure to get out early or on weekdays. EPIC!!! My Dad thought we needed so dude time so we went paddle boarding here. I have paddleboarded a few times so I didn't need any instructions from them. The boards seemed brand new and the beach was empty!! The kids working the beach were able to help my Dad out with some tips that made it really easy for him to do it. The very back of the Lagoon was amazing! I never new there was so many animals back there. We saw jumping fish, bat rays, and an osprey looking for lunch. Wifey bought a $25 Groupon for $50 value at Carlsbad Lagoon. When we arrived, went to the office but no worker to be found. Had to wait 20 minutes to be helped and redeemed groupon for 2 hour tandem kayak rental. We kayaked to the end of the lagoon and back in about 1 hour 20 minutes (taking many breaks). Water was very calm. Seems to be a safe place for water sports. Overall, had a fun time despite the poor service. read more

Had to subtract a star with my update :( Let me say we love this place. Have been many times to the point where I would call us obsessed! Rent a driver/boat normally and have a blast. But as a grown woman with teens myself I have to say the snotty attitudes of the teenage(?) girls who work the front office are really wearing me thin. No niceties, just short extremely annoyed answers and chuckles/eye rolls as though I should not need to ask anything. (You cater to tourists I'm sure who have zero experience with this stuff, questions are to be expected!) Anyhow, the male staff is usually laid back and chill, going out of their way to help myself, my husband, and kids. So that's why the rating stayed a 4, and not the 2 I was tempted to give thanks to the sheer rudeness. Oh and oddly enough, not sure what the deal is (and completely unrelated to my rating/may be a fluke) but the crowd of patrons has become increasingly unsavory. Last time there was a man with "b*tches" tattooed across his chest and other wonderful words on his eye lids, another man with gang insignia tatted on him to accentuate his ankle monitor, and the usual folks that accompany people like that. And the patio the last few times we've gone has been taken over by people with LOUD vulgar music (definitely not kid appropriate), cursing themselves, treating staff badly, and basically making for a miserable experience once back on land. Very odd shift, so moms you may want to survey the crowd before hanging out there. read more

After making an appointment in the morning and driving all the way up from Los angeles, I expected to spend my day wake boarding. Turns out the girls on the other side of the counter have a different opinion. So I arrived on time 5 minutes before 2, my scheduled starting time. I go to the counter and the girl says that they don't have my appointment down. She also mentions that the next available boat is after 30 minutes. 15 minutes later I go in to ask for an update. The girl claims that the boat Driver isn't answering and that we shouldn't worry. Keeping in mind that they have a policy of no extensions if your on the boat, they get a call from the driver asking for an extension. They accept it, even though i So now we have to wait till 3,40; an hour and a half, till I can wake board. On top of all this wait, the girl that worked behind the counter was unaccomidating and unhelpful. Quotes like "it's not my fault" and "there's nothing I can do to help" were thrown around to keep us waiting. Customer care is not part of these girls dictionary, as other customers have been complaining. The two girls were shelby and Taylor. read more

We got the 2-hour Groupon today and my 9 yo did a kids paddleboard and I did a single kayak. The 2 guys working were both super sweet and helpful, five stars for them. Diving ducks, flying fish, dogs on the beach down aways, lots of fun! The marine fog and wind rolled in when we'd reached the farthest corner of the lagoon and making it back was pretty challenging. Don't go further than you can go back lol! Some tears from my kiddo but she did it and is proud of herself now. We're both sore though so a shorter trip would have been wiser LOL! read more

My friend reserved the deck for a birthday party. We all had fun and enjoyed the rentals. The only thing that i was really disappointed about is that there were not any umbrellas or shade on the deck. The food we brought got hot quickly and we were all stuck in the sun all day which sucks for those of us that are sun sensitive. It would have been nice if they offered umbrellas for free or to rent (i checked with an employee and they said no) or alerted us ahead of time to bring our own although that may be impractical for people who can't fit a large table umbrella in their car. Just a thought for future customer satisfaction. Other than that our large group had no complaints. read more

Not a place to take your kids, not a family place. We were there over the summer. A group of guys and girls came blasting their music that of course had foul language. Girls practically naked. The worst thing of it, the girls had the staff members taking pictures...and im talking about inappropriate pictures big times on the See-Doos. Really the staff????? Instead of taking pictures of the girls they should of asked them to stop. We complained but of course nothing happened. Staff does not care. Then you had on the other side, guys drinking and cursing blasting their music as well. I will never go there again. Its a shame cause it is a nice little place but staff lets people do whatever. I have lived in Carlsbad and area for 30 years and had not been here before. I took my kids here using a groupon and we had a fantastic time. They have picnic tables and chairs to use. We brought a pop up and put over the table and hung out for the day. The staff all seemed very young - high school/college - but WOW - every single one was courteous, polite, professional and helpful. I ended up renting a Jet Ski and we all had a turn. I love coming here. I have Stand-Up Paddle boarded a couple of times and used their canoes as well. Everything works great and it's a nice way to learn without so much challenge as the open ocean. What a great place for a day on the water! There was something for everyone: Standup paddle boards for an adult and his teenaged daughter; kayaks for other adults; and paddle bikes for adults and younger children. These were our choices, and there are other options, as well. We made good use of the beach area and had a good time. Parking was a bit of a hassle, as it is up on a bluff above the water, and access to the beach was down a steep driveway. Helpful staff. Good, clean fun. Try it. You'll like it. read more
