We have been coming to this pool for three summers now. The facilities are great. The pools are beautiful and the temperature is always really nice. I love that they have a splash pad for tiny kids. Seating is a bit tricky. They've got tables under shade, however they are on the other side of the center, out of viewing range of the pool. Most people just put their stuff on the ground and hope to get a spot on the boiling astroturf. There are big bathrooms with lockers and showers and it's a mixed bag on how clean they are. The biggest downside is the staff. The lifeguards are really inconsistent and I've seen people even yell at the lifeguards to do their job when kids aren't following the rules. The office staff are a nightmare. They are so rude and pushy. In the summer, they do an inflatable obstacle course two days a week. The rules for admission are absolutely ridiculous and they only sell 30 wristbands for it for the day. Once they sell out, they just put a sign up on the ticket window and walk away leaving everyone left in line to wonder what's going on. They could use a big staffing upgrade. read more

We had an extremely disappointing experience at our son's very first swim lesson. When we arrived, the front desk employee was on a personal phone call. We waited until she finished and told her we were there for our first swim class. Instead of checking us in or explaining where to go, she simply pointed toward the outdoor pool area and told us to "go ask a lifeguard." This is a large facility with multiple pools and lessons happening at the same time. Since we'd never been there before, we wandered around trying to figure out where our instructor was. A lifeguard pointed us to another pool, but there was still no one directing us. We eventually had to interrupt an instructor to ask if he knew where we should be. At that point, the instructor asked for our son's name, looked at the child he was currently teaching, and realized he was teaching the wrong student. His response was that because the other family had arrived first, he would just teach both children together. We had prepaid for a private lesson specifically because our son has never had swim lessons before. Sharing the lesson with another child was not what we paid for or expected. We ultimately requested a refund and left without our son ever having his first lesson. Everyone can make mistakes, but this experience reflected a lack of organization from start to finish. There was no check-in process, no guidance for first-time families, and no clear communication about instructor assignments. For a business teaching young children around water, I expected much better organization and professionalism. read more

Big dog park with great afternoon shade. It's 3:30pm in March and a nice group of people that were smart to bring lawn chairs. There's still a few benches in the shade. I came in the morning and the table was shaded, so it just depends on what time of day. We are on the small dog side under 35 pounds. There's a big dog area on the other side of the fence. read more

This is a huge park. There is a lot for the kids to do here. There is a lot of parking and a good amount of tables to sit at.

I have had my kids do their swim lessons here for 3 sessions so far and every instructor we've had has been kind and friendly. They get my kids to try new things even when l cannot. The facility is really amazing. It's clean, beautiful, and fully functional. They have two lap pools (one shallower one for swim lessons and aerobic classes, another for deeper activities like diving and waterpolo) covered bleacher seating, and the side of the pool they use for the young kids is shaded, which is nice to not have to use sunscreen on them every time. They have a small splash pad which if you have a lesson, you're welcome to stay after to use it. They also have outdoor showers which are nice to rinse the chlorine off after if you cannot make it home to shower right after. I love the large family type bathrooms they have as well. I usually use one to change my kiddos into clothes after so they aren't too cold. But note that not all the bathrooms have a changing table so look before you commit. Speaking of cold, in the winter they heat the pools, so that's also helpful. read more

I was really impressed by the beauty and cleanliness of this community park when I attended 2 of the Carlsbad summer concerts here. The City of Carlsbad did a really great job coordinating a series of free summer concerts to bring the community together. I found out towards the tail end of the concert series and was fortunate to make it to see Beta Maxx and FABBA. Both concerts were excellent! For the first one, I came early and was able to find parking in the very large parking lot. A week later, I attended a second concert and was unable to find parking, but there was a free shuttle. This park is huge and could accommodate a very large crowd. On a normal day when there is no free concert, there are lots of things to do at this park. For starters, there is an aquatic center fully equipped with showers. The grass is green and well-manicured with many trees, perfect for a picnic. The sidewalks are nicely paved, really great for roller skating, walks, or runs. There are large canopies if you want to throw a birthday party at the park. There are ample parking spaces on the private lot. I would come here more often if Carlsbad weren't so far away. Although, I have to admit, it's totally worth the drive! read more

Such a beautiful park. Tucked away in Carlsbad behind the commercial buildings and steps from the homes, it's ideal for parties or even just to take a break from the stresses of everyday life. With a skate park and huge grassy area, you're sure to find use of all that it has to offer. Their public restrooms are clean too! Easy parking and well lit lot. Last week we stopped at Poinsettia Dog Park, and Cali didn't even want to go in the gate. This week, we came here and it exceeded my expectations. When we got to the big dog side, several came over to greet Cali and she decided she didn't want to go in. We played by ourselves for a bit in a small fenced-in area. When she headed for the exit, I thought she wanted to go home. Instead, she beelined for the other side and wanted to check out the water fountain and dogs who were playing. The area is huge!! There's tunnels and agility ramps and stuff for training purposes. Besides benches, there's picnic tables (though I wouldn't recommend bringing food as you might start a fight). Overall, we absolutely LOVED our time here and will be back! Cool park with lots of different sections (skate park, dog park, playground, etc). Skate park review: this skatepark is really cool with sections of flat ground and small ramps for beginners, and larger ramps and big bowls to drop in and skate for more experienced skaters. I have seen people on skateboards, roller skates, and scooters. There are some nice people who come skate here but unfortunately there are also a lot of the same kids (little elementary kids and high school kids) that come here and think they own the park and will cuss and scream at anyone they don't like. Very shocking behaviors I have seen here from actual children, no parents around. There are lights that come on after dark at this skate park, and there are actual bathrooms (not porta potties). read more

(Review is just for the playground) This is one of the nicest largest playgrounds in the area, with lots of clean well maintained equipment, lots of parent seating and picnic tables. It can get pretty warm during the summer but most of the year it's perfect. I've been sitting here writing reviews for about an hour while my kid tries out all the gear. Slides. Swings, sand toys. Much of it also seems to be wheelchair accessible too. There's also a skate park, a dog park, baseball fields and a pool, all of which seem great. If you just want to go for a walk, it's not very "natural", and there are better local parks for that. read more

We love Alga Norte. The park is clean, the grounds are nice, the aquatic center is awesome. There are locker rooms, showers, and also separate family changing room/toilets. The splash pad for kids is fun, the pools are great. Plenty of shade, tables, and turf to hang out on. You can bring snacks and drinks as long as they're not glass. The admission for aquatic center is really reasonable, so are the membership prices. read more

This park is beautiful and we rented it out for a birthday party. However I wish there was a place within the buildings we could report incidences, a group of teenagers on bikes were throwing stink bombs into the women's bathroom and yelling slurs to an elderly woman. They left before we could get any info abt them. It would have been awesome if safety was prided at this park. read more

We love this park. The kids roller skate while their cousins or friend skateboard. The play sets are a lot of fun. If the field between the playground and aquatic center is open, we kick ball or fly kites! The pools are great too. We've been to birthday parties, swim meets, and even just public swimming. I am baffled as to why I need to pay to watch my daughter practice at NCA. I get a chance once in a blue moon to do this and was told I need to pay to watch. This is a City park and so, don't my taxes pay for this place? I am already paying a fee to NCA for my daughter. I get nothing other than the ability to watch my daughter practice. I've been going to this park and skatepark area for about a year now without issue. Today, I was called an idiot and a faggot by a grown man for allowing my kids ride their bikes within the skatepark. If you're familiar with the park, it's extremely common to see kids riding their scooters and striders within the skatepark area. The rules do post that it's for skateboards only, although I had never considered checking considering the normal mix of skateboards, bikes and scooters. I'm not going to lie - it was really shocking to be singled out by a grown man. It could have been handled without any harsh feelings, I was in the wrong considering the rules. But apparently this is common behavior by this guy. There was a mom close by who witnessed the encounter who said she has witnessed him do this to other families/kids. If you plan to go, keep your eye out for a guy in his early 50's, goatee, riding a skateboard with his teenage daughter. She was extremely good, which is probably why my kids were so interested in riding within the area. Whole family has equally bad, unfriendly vibes though. Keep your distance. read more

Dog park! What a huge dog park. The sides are separated, one for the littles and one for the big ones. It's nice but I still think Encinitas one is better. This one is nice too. I don't like the bark though, it gets stuck between my dogs paws and not the softest for them to run or walk on. It's quite hot, barely any shade. The big dog park has some agility objects for your dog. Lots of kids near the baseball field would often come in the dog park and play on the dogs agility objects.... didn't have a problem finding parking, the lot is pretty big. read more

A park with a little bit of everything for everyone. This is a pretty big park tucked away in the city. There's one full size basketball court and a half court, baseball field, outdoor swimming pool, large grass field, etc. I'm sure if I keep walking around, I'll find a small playground as well. It's nice to see so many people come out in the morning to take walks and play on their fields. It's very well kept and has public restrooms as well. read more

This is an excellent park with everything you could want. My son loves the skate park. There are plenty of ramps and bowls to burn up your kids energy. The swimming pool looks amazing with all the splash pads. There is a very large path around the basketball courts, tennis, and dog park. My little and I love this park. There's multiple play structures for kids. They have some that are intended for the bigger kids and some intended for littler kids. Sand area is fun for the littles. There's park benches for parents to watch littles and to have a meal. Very clean. All of the families we've met there have been super friendly and welcoming to all. read more

This is a great place to bring your pup. This park has a section for large dogs, small dogs, and dogs that need some adjustment or training by themselves. There is a water fountain here for both the dogs and humans. They provide poop bags as well. There are agility things all around the park for the pup. The only complaint I have is the lack of shade here. They have benches around, but most are in the open sun. read more

Nice pool that offers good community swim classes for local kids. No longer charges water polo parents only for watching kids at practice. Splash pad for littles. Skatepark has a mixtures of skateboarders & scooters- young & "old". I don't smell any pot smoking (like at some other skateparks). Skatepark is surrounded by open space / nature and it's lovely. Woah, first time visiting here and I'm wondering why lol. This place is great! We went before 10 am, had my niece with me and she loved the pool, we used the life vest that was available for the children. Lifeguards are everywhere, pool water was warm which was great, splash pad water is not heated though which was fine. Plenty of lockers in the restrooms with shower stalls as well. Limited amount of chairs, and i saw some people bring their own so i guess its fine. There was also a playground, but we didn't get to check it out. We enjoyed it, and we'll definitely be back. Make sure you bring snacks, only vending machines inside. Clean and safe for everyone. read more

This is a terrific and well organized park. It's large and has a lot to offer. I did not know that it was 32 acres until I read the sign. I was very impressed with the state of the art aquatic center meant for competition and such. The park is very well maintained by the city of Carlsbad which was very evident by the beautiful surrounding landscaping and the maintenance applied to the three all purpose fields meant for base ball, soft ball, or soccer. The fields include night lights and snack bars. The park also has great playground equipment designed for different age groups. The public restrooms are very well maintained and clean. Near the equipment are several shaded picnic areas with tables and BBQ islands. I'm telling you, this park was very well planned because about 40 yards form the playground equipment, there are two skate board parks next to each other serving beginners and those who are more experienced. The park is dog friendly with areas designated for them, the park offers lightened basket ball courts, and the park even house a huge portion of their parking lot under shade covers. This first review is specifically for the dog park area. I took Indie to the Large Dog area and was very happy to see plenty of dog friends to play with. The area is mostly dirt but there is so much space! They even have play equipment for them to go through an obstacle course. Every dog on the first visit was playful and friendly! YAY~ Big dog owners rule! They have a fountain for both humans and dogs. They have a table, potty stations and even in enclosed structure separated by a chain link fence for puppies in training. I have never seen that at a dog park before. Indie now says this is his favorite hangout! FOUR PAWS UP! read more

It's fantastic. There's an outdoor playground, the aquatic center, dog park with obstacles, and a skateboard park. This review is for the playground and the aquatic center. The playground is really nice. Tons of equipment for young kids and bigger kids. Swings, 2 infant swings, and picnic tables too. Not much shade (which is a weird norm for SoCal parks!!) so slather that sunscreen on. The aquatic center is 5 dollars per adult, 3 dollars per kid over 4, and under 4 is free. This is where the splashpad is plus a gigantic pool (but parts of it are for lapswim and diving). The splashpad opens at 10 and they only turn it on when it's 70 degrees or higher...so like 300 days a year. ;) I think the pool opens to the general public at 10, but they were letting people in earlier if they had lessons. The pool has a shallow end, but I think the most shallow part is 3 feet. I'd definitely return. It's a really fun spot for the kids. You could easily spend the whole day here. read more
