Maggie is a fantastic coach and the kind of person who you actually enjoy hanging out with. We cannot recommend her highly enough. She inspires confidence, is thorough, patient, encouraging but not patronizing, and able to juggle different abilities in a group with ease - so you need not worry that your more experienced partner/family member will get bored. The paddle boards are lovely and clean and the 75 minutes flies by. She took great photos of us on the water with her camera and emailed them to us the same day! That was such a special touch. Don't hesitate. You will have a great experience.

Let me tell you... I was blown away with how qualified and well-rounded George was and immediately felt secure since he knew exactly what he was doing! They provided us with the boards and paddles and he helped each of us get on while instructing us how to paddle and maneuver the board, before eventually leading us away. He was kind enough to help us all when we needed it, and made for such a wonderful memorable experiment by snapping photos that I'll always remember. It was difficult and scary at first, but it became easier as I conquered my fear. Now, I actually want to get better and come again! Hopefully work up to doing more on the board and hopefully without life jacket next time lol. I'm definitely bringing friends and coming back! So much fun!

On the morning of our reservation, I was slightly bummed that it was typical Oceanside "May Gray" weather although it's March! However, I get to the place a little early and was waiting for my fashionably late friends, so I decided to go and meet George! He's a 6X World Guinness Record holder, Cycling Instructor, and Retired DEA! I'm sure I'm missing more of his accolades, as if this list wasn't intimidating enough! Nonetheless, he is NOT an intimidating person at all! After my tardy for the party friends got there, we all headed down to the dock right there in front of Jolly Roger's to get started on our paddleboarding excursion! I was slightly worried for my friend because she can only kinda swim, but there's a life jacket if needed. George took our photo and it was my turn to get on the board! I was the same nervous excited like I get on a first date, but I had my friends there too, so it was more excitement!We all get out on the water, accomplished! Then it was time to get on our feet! Oh crap was going through my mind, but I figured here we go! I took about maybe a total of 5 secs on the board before falling in! George was so nice to help me get my ass on the board, which isn't as easy as it looks, but then again I haven't worked out in a year, sooo it was a struggle! George was there the whole 20 minutes of me trying to get back on the board, but was so nice and professional because he was so worried I was going to get sick or really cold due to my whole body going in for a sea water bath! After all that's said and done, I had such a wonderful time! My friends were a little better at it than me, but that just means I have to come back again and show them up!

He may have good deals but I just can't support someone who won't even be responsible for his own store.

But with Tom's assistance, she persevered, paddling along the shoreline, while Tom accompanied her, walking by her side on the sand. Twenty minutes later, my wife had the confidence to paddle the lagoon by herself, all thanks to Tom. We even brought our dog with us, a five year old golden retriever, and as an added bonus, we paddled her as well on the board. Yay! Thanks for the fond memories Tom, and all your help. We really enjoyed ourselves.

You just text your server what you want and the server will get the food for you. We also got two free Legoland towels and a huge Legoland bag. Forgot when I sold this park initially to him that LEGOLAND is geared towards the younger age. As is the water park, the slides and rides are on the smaller kid age. So it should be perfect for son sons age of 5, but he has been to larger water parks and rode the big thrilling rides. So he had fun there, but he said it's bay ride slides haha. Then add on to that the wind chills and temperature. Our waterpark adventure ended pretty quickly. We did however make the rest of the day in the theme park end. By the way to go to the water park you need to also have tickets for the theme park as it's inside the theme park.

The beach itself was VERY short compared to sand length at other beaches so people were almost on top of each other. There was a pretty intense drop off about half way down the sand so it limited space for people to put down their stuff and lay out. I'm not sure how normal it is at this spot but there was a TON of rocks. It was way too much to be able to enter the water without having them beating your feet and ankles. My friend was bleeding after trying to check out the water. The surf was also a little intense that day so I'm wondering if that had any effect on the rock situation? This was a very clean beach with restrooms at the bottom of the ramp from the street so it did have that going for it but we decided to leave and head for a beach where we could safely go into the water that day. I'll have to come back another time to get a better idea.

I had a terrible experience with California Watersports during my recent kayaking trip. The incident I encountered was not only infuriating, but it also put my safety at serious risk. I strongly urge everyone to avoid this establishment if you value your well-being and expect any level of professionalism. Let me paint a vivid picture of the chaos that unfolded. While leisurely paddling in the designated no wake zone, minding my own business, a horde of reckless jet ski riders rented from California Watersports emerged. Instead of respecting the regulations and ensuring the safety of others, they decided to turn my peaceful kayak fishing expedition into a nightmare. These individuals, lacking even the most basic understanding of jet ski operation and etiquette, shamelessly encroached upon the no wake zone at full speed. Despite clear signage and buoys indicating the restricted area, they callously disregarded the rules, showing complete disregard for the safety of others. To make matters worse, one of these clueless jet ski riders crashed into a buoy and was propelled directly towards me and my kayak, colliding with me. The impact resulted in a damaging crack on my personal kayak. Astonishingly, instead of offering a sincere apology or showing any semblance of remorse for nearly causing a potentially fatal accident, the irresponsible driver responded with a barrage of offensive language and even issued threatening remarks, also attempting to spray me as he continued on his merry way. After this horrifying incident, I immediately dialed California Watersports to report the incident and provide them with the necessary information to identify the offender. However, to my dismay, it took an abysmal 15-20 minutes for them to finally get off the water (It appeared that their rental time was up, not them being taken out of the water because of my call). This sluggish response time is simply unacceptable when it comes to ensuring the safety and well-being of their customers. What is truly infuriating is the lack of responsibility and accountability demonstrated by California Watersports. It is inconceivable that they would allow inexperienced and reckless individuals to operate their jet skis without implementing stricter safety measures. The fact that they just reopened their jet ski rentals after a previous death incident without improving safety protocols speaks volumes about their commitment to customer safety. In light of this harrowing encounter, I have decided to take matters into my own hands and contact the relevant authorities. It is evident that California Watersports is failing to uphold their duty to provide a safe environment for water enthusiasts like myself. As a frequent visitor to the lagoon for kayak fishing, I am deeply concerned about the blatant disregard for safety exhibited by this establishment. In conclusion, I strongly advise against patronizing California Watersports. Their lack of control over their jet ski rentals, coupled with their nonchalant response to dangerous incidents, poses a significant threat to the safety and enjoyment of the waterways. We recently had a team-building event at the Carlsbad Lagoon, and honestly, it was such a fun and refreshing experience for everyone. We reserved a private deck for our group, which was a great call. It gave us a comfortable space to relax, hang out, and have a little BBQ. The deck came with a grill, so we brought some food, fired it up, and had a great time grilling and chatting in between all the activities. The sign-up and check-in process was surprisingly smooth. We were given our wristbands quickly, and the staff made everything super easy from the start. They were friendly, efficient, and really went out of their way to make sure everyone felt comfortable, especially with the jet skis. A few of us had never been on one before, but the staff provided clear and helpful training so we could all ride with confidence. That definitely made a big difference. We rented two jet skis, a couple of swan boats, and a few kayaks. Everyone had a chance to try out the different options, and it was a great mix of relaxing and high-energy activities. The lagoon itself is much bigger than I expected. There's plenty of space to explore, and you can easily spend anywhere from two to four hours out there without feeling rushed or crowded. It felt very safe, clean, and well-managed, which added to the overall experience. It's also worth noting that they have water cycles, which looked like a blast. We didn't try them this time, but we'll definitely keep them on the list for next time. Whether you're coming with a group for a team event or planning a family outing, the Carlsbad Lagoon is a fantastic spot. There's something for everyone to enjoy, and it strikes a really nice balance between adventure and relaxation. I would give this zero stars if I could. While this is a lovely spot and a great idea the management is pretty lousy. I came here a couple weeks ago with about 10 family members and rented multiple jet skis and motor boats for 3 hours. They "accidentally" charged us for extra boats and refunded us with tokens that exchange for equipment ($120 value). In addition many of the jet skis they gave us, they gave us on empty and we had to return to refill which was very frustrating. We came again a few days later to use the coins and they said only $60 of the tokens were redeemable for jet skis and that instead we had to pay out of pocket to make up the difference or instead rent a paddle board -- the coins they gave us were only redeemable for paddle boards, even though we didn't rent any paddle boards initially. The manager was incredibly rude and had a nasty look on her face and kept saying "I remember you, I didn't make any mistakes. We won't refund you, you wasted $60, that is your fault." We ended up paying out of pocket the difference and losing money just because we drove out of our way to take the kids again. And some were missing speedometers so we couldn't see if the jet skis were going 15 or 45 mph. Didn't seem safe. When I asked the guy he said: "well it isn't unsafe." I thought we'd be paying for a jet ski with a speedometer that works and a full tank of gas for the $106 we paid for each one per hour. I won't be coming back. Horrible customer service. Really bad experience. I wouldn't recommend at all. read more

California Water Sports in Carlsbad offers the best summer camp I know. Apart from its obvious allure in Carlsbad Bay, it is truly a place for kids and teens to feel comfortable and to learn a wide variety of sports in a supportive environment. The owner, Josh knows how to run a successful business. When my 9-year-old daughter had some trepidation about kayaking, he immediately asked her instructor to go with her and ease her into trying. The instructor, Kaden cheerfully and enthusiastically helped my daughter until she was so comfortable that she didn't want to go home!! Kaden always has a big, welcoming smile when he sees you. Water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing can be tricky for the first time. Not with Nate, another amazing instructor at California Water Sports. As a boat driver he goes with your level of experience, speed and comfort. I highly recommend both Kaden and Nate as instructors. In the course of the camp, you get to learn how to kayak, tube, paddle board, jet ski, water ski, wakeboard, kneeboard , wake surf, aqua cycle and paddle boat. It is a spectacular variety of water sports in a 5-day period. It was a life changing experience for my daughter, just like Josh the owner suggested it would be. read more

We've been coming here for the past couple months at this point to go wake boarding. It's always fun out on the water, but last time we went there was a dead otter floating in the middle of the lagoon for hours. Understandable no one wants to clean it up, but if you're going to charge to let people use the lagoon... come on now. Not only that, but every time we have used the lagoon, we always pay. Last time we went, we were somewhat abruptly confronted by the lagoon staff, who after staring us down told us to make sure we pay in a semi rude manner. You'd think they'd realize we come there a lot and pay every time. Still a fun place overall though. read more

Awesome is the only word I can describe this place with! Got there expecting just another waverunner rental place, with a so so environment and boring employees...man was I wrong! This place is alive! Everything is set up in such a way to make you feel like your on island, but not just any island, one with food being cooked, waverunners racing, and numerous amounts of items to be rented. Not only was the environment fun and exciting but so were the employees! Very laid back people working there, that are just constantly tryng to make everyone happy. Came here on a LivingSocial deal for paddleboarding with a friend. Packed a lunch to eat on the "beach" area (not much of a beach, just a little sandy area with some picnic tables) and spent a few hours paddling back and forth in the water. The place is staffed by a lot of younger people that looked like high school or college kids, but the service was good and organized enough. They've got a couple other water sport activities available. Parking is a little dicey as most of the cars park on a steep hill... make sure you put that parking break on!! I'll definitely come back to try the jet skis another day. read more

Great way to get outside and enjoy some water sports! Redeemed a Groupon here and spent an afternoon paddleboarding with my wife. There are a lot of options here - kayaking and jet ski seemed to be the other popular ones - and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Can't say much for the bathrooms, but at least someone had hooked up a hose that guests could use to rinse the sand off before leaving. There's also not much of a beach, more like just a sandy landing between the rental area and the water, but we did see a few people laying out and enjoying lunch on a picnic table by the lagoon. read more

Absolutely terrible service and zero professionalism. This place is ran by a bunch of dumb 19 year olds that don't know how to communicate to each other or add. The owner is fucking douchebag who just stood there after I politely asked if he could help me unload some boards from my truck or if he could get one of his male staff members to assist. Fuck you dude. We also paid extra for more tables and chairs and after an hour without receiving them, my husband had to check back in and remind the girls inside that 2 plus 4 is 6... not 4. I truly regret throwing my husband's birthday party here. read more

The carlsbad lagoon is by far my favorite place to have an awesome day with the family! I came last summer and tried out the paddle boards which was a great time and this summer we did the jet skis! Both times, my family and I were so happy about the expirience we got! Everything they rent out is so much fun youl have a blast no matter what you do! Its such a friendly atmosphere and the staff is so welcoming and helpful. The girls at the front desk are so sweet and the boys on the beach are very accomidating and show you exactly how to operate the rental. Its overall such a great expirience! read more

Horrible place to take toddlers. The service desk was a disaster when it comes to customer service. The girls were too busy talking among themselves, and too busy to take care of customers. The wait was long, and when it came our turn, the girl was too busy, inpatient, and not very friendly. Going to our beach is so much fun, less expensive, and much more satisfying! What was I thinking when I took my daughter and her kids for this crazy, annoying adventure? Not a good place at all. I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone! read more

Came here with a Groupon deal for SUP and had a great time. It was a holiday weekend though so there were lots of families and teenagers waiting for the boards. We were told that there would be a 45 minute wait for our rental but luckily got on the water in about 15 minutes. There's not a lot of "beach" area and it isn't exactly designed for swimming, but there were a few people wading in the water and floating on an inflatable raft a few feet from shore. Pack a cooler with drinks and food for a fun afternoon in the sun! read more

This place is so fantastic! i could come back here everyday. first off the location is prime. I love wake surfing so that is what i wanted to do! i went into the office and the girls in the shop were so cute and nice to me, and far as the rest off the staff, they were amazing willing to help me out! jacob was my driver and i got to wakesurf and got up everytime! thank you for an great day here at the lagoon! i wish i lived right by here! :D coming back soon! read more

The staff was amazing, friendly and helpful. We have never been paddle boarding and they had us up and going in 5 minutes and we spent 2 hours on the water. What a great place for the family to spend an afternoon. They have so many free activities and motor craft to cruise the lagoon. You have to check this place out Chris and Meleah Pustelak read more

The family and I had so much fun at the Carlsbad Lagoon!!! The staff was super friendly and helpful. A young smiling worker named Braden Dennis at the lagoon my first time on a paddle board was smooth and comfortable. Although my kids were not old enough to drive the jetskis by themselves they LOVED cruising the water on the bayliner. read more

Great place to go and enjoy your day, Josh ( owner ) and his team are doing a superb job as far as customer service. This last visit was my 5th visit and every time I go there the staff makes me feel Home. Went to the Carlsbad Lagoon with some girl friends for some stand up paddle boarding and had a great time! Everyone was so nice and helpful. After we explored the lagoon we hung out on their private beach took in a couple rays of sunshine while playing with one of the employees cute black lab. Awsome all the way around!!! read more

This place is ran horribly by an egotistical.manager name Connor . He knows yelp , groupon and google shows "close 7pm." BUT BECAUSE They wanted to get their Superbowl party on ..They shew away business and told people We close at 4pm . This place is awesome its like Im on Vacation in my own backyard. I thought the water would be to cold since it is April but it was really nice. The sun was out and we had a great time. The guys there were very friendly. I will be back this weekend we some friends that are in town from the east coast. read more

I live locally and every year I have my birthday here, i could go any number of places but they have everything you could ever want to occupy time from when i was young even now in my 20s. its never the same twice whether you wakeboard or kayak. read more
