Beautiful grand interiors in this branch of Carluccios. The service was a bit slow, but my friends and I had only come in for coffees at the end of an evening, so we were happy to chat amongst ourselves while we waited for the bill to be brought over to us. read more

Not good Italian, salads didn't look fresh, everyone's pasta was overlooked. Very little mozzarella in the "mozzarella salad", not fresh looking rocket and cherry tomatoes. Pros: staff is good and reimbursed us for the soggy bruschetta. Antipasti platter was impressive. Cons: low quality food and too much clatter noise from staff tossing utensils and plates behind the bar. read more

Depending on what you order, the food is very good. The calamari was fresh and the Branzino is amazing. Service was ok.

I always find Carluccio a bit hit and miss. Having been there many times here are my observations. For those who are Gluten free the pasta dishes are fantastic. They're fresh and taste a whole load better than Gluten free pasta from the supermarket. The normal pasta dishes are pretty good, nothing special though. I think Carluccio wins on its risotto dishes, always delicious. They lose on their steak (always overcooked), and some of their fish dishes. The desserts are always delicious. So there you go, mixed bag! read more

AC unit made my guest and I very cold. We asked for it to be turned off, which the manager did, but then turned it on again and despite asking for a table away from the AC we were not offered another table. Food portions getting smaller. Aperol Spritz now in a much smaller glass. Standards are slipping and I am so sad as I have been eating here since it opened. read more

I was at Carluccio's for a private wine tasting (brought to you by Qype!) so can't comment on the pricing, but the style and ambience of the restaurant was just perfect. Light, airy, with an amazing staircase (!) - it's somewhere I would take someone I needed to impress! read more

Thought food was very fresh and delicious. We started with a mushroom bruschetta (special) and it was amazing. We also had a charcuterie platter to start which was also very good. 2 of us had a basic spaghetti and meatballs and it was very good. You could tell the pasta was very fresh. 2 in our party had the chicken saltbocca. It was a very large piece of chicken. I had a bite of it and it was very tender and juicy. Carluccios is one of the great successes of the chain world. An amazing feat when you consider how very average its food is. I blame those clever marketeers who have correctly surmised that if you display some authentic-looking deli bits and bobs at the front of the restaurants, chuck in some shelves of ludicrously over-priced but exquisitely packaged italian biscuits, spaghetti and the like, that diners will somehow fail to notice its less-than-exquisite dining experience. The other night at the Earlsfield branch my friend and I ordered a milanese risotto. As someone who has lived in Italy, I know that if nothing else there should be a smattering of saffron in this. Ma non. Instead we received white, cold slop in which a few gobbits of salsiccia bobbed mournfully. As for flavour..seasoning..garnish, there was none. It wouldn't have looked out of place on a school dinner menu (pre-Jamie Oliver style makeover). When I asked the waitress where the saffron was she looked blank and shrugged, saying: this is the chef's version. Rather like putting roast chicken on the menu and serving up a poached pear instead. Anyway, she was apologetic and - between bouts of listening to a neighbouring table's gripes about their meal - invited us to choose something else on the menu. This we duly did. When the bill came we found we'd been charged both for our second choices (and for one of the milanese risottos). Molto molto disappointing. read more

I used to visit the Carluccio's deli when it was in Neal Street, and would buy their gorgeous big sandwiches, parma ham and cheese and salad between two big slices of delicious focaccia! But their range of olive oils, herbs, spices, sauces and pastas are amazing, and everything is good quality and full of flavour. Their Italian desserts and biscuits are hard to resist (honey cantucci anyone?) and make great gifts. You can even buy authentic limoncello here. They've sinced moved to Garrick street and had a whole new makeover. read more

Went along to a wine tasting at Carluccios flagship restaurant this week to taste its range of Planeta wines. It was fantastic. Not only did they serve us up some tasty treats from the kitchen (including home made cannoli,which was delicious as was the Planeta dessert wine) but the wine was also excellent. I especially liked the rose and the whites. If you are eating at Carluccios, don't miss one of the Planeta wines. If you're on your way to a dinner party - pop into a Carluccios cafe and buy a bottle of Planeta to bring along. You won't go wrong. read more

I recently attended a Planeta wine tasting in the private dining room at Carluccio's and I was very much impressed with the venue, the food and (especially) the wines and the uber-knowledgeable and enthusiastic sommelier/presenter for the evening. The Planeta wines (Sicilian whites, reds and a dessert wine) and the Planeta olive oil were delicious. I wanted to be critical of the wines - or, I should say, I expected to be - but I really couldn't find fault with them. Delicious wines and a good value (ranged from a tenner to less than 20) that I will certainly be buying in the future. The olive oil was fruity and fresh with no bitterness. A tad on the expensive size (£14 for a small bottle), but if your wallet permits, then it's a great choice. The venue was stylish, yet warm and inviting. The tasting was held in the private dining room, which is on the second floor of Carluccio's and overlooks the buzzy streets. It was a perfect setting and I'd love to have an excuse to organise something there again (or suggest it to someone who is looking for a private dining room). The antipasti (vegetarian and non) were delicious and super fresh (salame, porchetta, artichokes, olives, killer caponata, Sicilian-style cous cous and more). The small cannoli served with the dessert wine were very good and had fresh candied orange peel - something one doesn't usually find in cannoli outside of certain areas in Italy. Kudos (and a big thank you) to Mike for being so knowledgeable and infectiously enthusiastic about Planeta wines, whilst being relaxed and affable and making everyone feel right at home. read more

I had a lovely time at Carluccio's while I was in London. The prices were certainly high, but prices are high everywhere in London right now. The desserts were very nice, but the coffee (specifically my caffe latte) took the cake! (Pardon the pun.) It was everything an Italian coffee should be. I also ended up buying lots of little Italian treats to take home with me! read more

Fresh produce and good service

The prix fixe evening menu is fantastic value for money in central London. Not much choice - but at £8.50 for two courses and coffee, what can you say? Buzzy lively atmosphere. Great to grab a quick, early evening bite before making the long journey home. read more

I am here every wednesday morning for a breakfast meeting, the venue fantastic and location superb. The breakfast is good although pricey, nevertheless worth a visit. The fact the scrambled eggs have spring onions, made it for me. Bacon tasty and mushrooms good. read more

I love italian food and pasta and I visit Carluccio`s very often. With or without occasion. The dinner is always a great value. Food and service are always great. Staff is friendly and attentive. They always make me feel special and comfortable. Chicken with white wine sauce is also very delicious. read more

Underwhelming. Starters were just bad (focaccia, garlic bread and pasta crisps). Entrees ok - all had pasta, served al dente, fairly pleasant but not amazing. Spinach balls were over-fried. Ordered pear and ricotta gelato but this was new and had apparently not arrived yet. Overall food was very average. Ambience was pleasant as was service. Overall we would not rush back. read more

Absolutely wonderful. My two sisters and I went here a couple of weeks ago during a special getaway weekend. We were sat at a long table, with a couple of others at the other end. Quaint! Our waiter was terribly patient as we were busy chatting and couldn't decide. He helped us choose what we had. We started with a bottle of Prosecco, brushetta and breads to start, and amazing mains. I had the sausage and tomato pasta, and my sisters had the seafood pasta and spinach pasta. We tasted everything and loved everything. My kinda place! After theater we decided to go for early dinner, But we were very disappointed, after ordering a drink and a food, drink arrived after 10 minuets, as we were not having a starter Our main meal took 50 minuets to come and it was Ice cold. When complain the waitress brought new (at least we think it was fresh one) but that was Lukewarm. if you are Londoner I will not recommend this place but hungry tourists will eat any thing. Went there because they had gluten free pasta. It was undercooked and absolutely unedible. The service was horrendously poor, and management just talked about resolving the issue but did absolutely nothing about it. I would never go back there. read more

Only giving this place one star because it is not possible to give it zero!! Have given this place the benefit of the doubt and returned a few times, will not bother again!! Yes they are busy, our server actually said they were 'always this busy', but they just cannot cope with the number of covers!! There are always several 'managers' wandering around doing nothing, the four tables where we were sitting were all badly served, we waited an age for starters (basically toasted bread with differing sides) and when they eventually arrived one was wrong!! (Not rocket science guys!!!), and our mains were brought by before the correct starter had managed to get to the table!! No proper apology for this, no drinks offered, we ended up eating out starters separately and then waited again for our mains as fresh ones had to be cooked!! The tables around us waited for drinks, food and coffees. I like Carluccios as a chain, but avoid this one at all costs, plenty of other places close by that offer good food and an acceptable level of service. read more
