I bought a car tha ti was assured had no frame damage from a listed accident. After i took it out i found the car pulling to the right while crusing. I took it in for service and was told "it was within tolorance " The left headlight is nor filled with mositure and looks ratty. I will try again to have the pull repaired.. If that and the hgeadlight can be repaired no harm no foul. If not i will see ewhat the lemon law has to say. read more

We were greeted at the door by salesman Douglas Hutchinson. He was polite but not pushy, which I really appreciated. I wasn't impressed with them. the guy i had to work with was pushy to say the least. he didn't know the car specs, couldn't answer my questions (kept guessing answers), and pretty much didn't seem appreciative of my business. **Strike 1** Other car places are annoying bc they play games with you (negotiation process) so the no haggle is refreshing. What isn't refreshing is no haggle when there are noticeable problems with the car (electrical, structural, and minor maintenance - these noticed the 3rd day i had car in possession). I took possession of the car and it was dirty. Salesman (the pushy one) tells me "this is better than most." that's not something a person feels good about. **Strike 2** The process was irritating enough for me to return the car. It wasn't of good value and after my experience I didn't want that guy to get any money off of me. They say there is no commission, but since there is a noticeable markup on the cars, its in there. The return policy is still pending. I returned the car on Feb 10, but researched the process prior to going. Of course they tried to talk me into getting another one, but circumstances prevented me from doing so. It seriously was a maybe 30 minute conversation/paperwork completion. Here's the 3rd strike.... when did I say I returned the car? Oh.. well, guess who is still waiting for her money back? MEEE! Yea, I checked in with corporate and still waiting for a response. If i was hard up for money this would be a MAJOR problem. 3/1 update... So.. I called the corporate office to check the status of my refund. Real nice guy kept me on hold for about 20 minutes, only to tell me later "someone" was supposed to inquire about sending a copy of the cleared check. I said - the check cleared BEFORE i even returned the car. why didn't someone ask when I was there? I could have easily have given that info -- AND -- why didn't someone tell me you needed this info? He goes into this dance about hte refund process taking 21 days (i'm on day 17) and how once the copy of the check is received (via fax. he refused to let me email him bc the 'account" is generic and several people will receive it) it'll take 5 days. The new anticipated mailing date is 3/9... meaning i should receive it March 12-14. I'll be back to update. I wouldn't go back to CarMax. Sad too... they have cars everywhere. read more

We arrive to "CarMax" on "Saturday" morning we were grated by the sale consultant "Kirk Beckno" friendly and professional, Escourted me to his work station. He ask me what; I'm looking for. He was very accommodating. He took me out to look at the vehicle. We did a test drive, I was very happy with the service that was provided. A day later "Kirk" call and asked me was; I happy with my vehicle and the service that was provided by" CarMax". I was and very pleased to find that a salesperson that really likes his work and concerned about the customer, Mr Kirk was very nice and said if, I ever needed any assistance regarding the vehicle please don't hesitate calling him. After hearing mixed information about Carmax I wasn't sure how I would feel about purchasing a car from them. The place is huge. Its a bit overwhelming. If you can't find anything you like here then your too picky. They have everything! I am not a fan of places of which commission is the rate of pay for sales staff. I was a bit annoyed that just like furniture stores there was a pow wow of sales associates waiting at the door in attack mode. But whatever, welcome to the USA. After a day of "just looking" the day before. I decided that we should head back and see if we could give a few cars we liked a test drive. Of course Stephen was waiting for us. We decided to try out a Jeep Liberty liked it but it was just OK. Later I stumbled upon a Hyundai Tiburon, the sky opened up and angels came from the heavens....this was our car! The easy part was getting the loan, which for most it's the hardest part. The hardest part was getting insured to take the car. Because the boyfriend and I just moved down here from New York City no one wanted to insure us. Why? Well because apparently there is a lot of insurance fraud involving people who move down here from NY.....hmmmm wonder why??? Luckily, Stephen was VERY patient with us and let us use his phone and computer to try and sort all of this out. Stephen had the magic touch and after being denied by Progressive, and Geico he was able to just type in a few lines and help us get Esurance. Stephen to the rescue, and insurance wasn't even his job. All was good and we were able to go to our new home with our new car. Everyone at Carmax was wonderful. We even had a nice conversation with one of the managers. We were very pleased. ****It is very important that your read all of the fine print and understand the warranties to a T. I saw that Carmax's car service hours were until 6pm. So I call this Carmax and they tell me their hours are until 4pm. So I make an appointment to have my car serviced. Unfortunately due to bad directions(given to me by an employee) I got their a few minutes late. Instead of holding on, Carmax allows the mechanics to leave 20 minutes before 4pm. They don't even have weekend hours so in order to get my car serviced I need to take off of work or wait till a holiday. Carmax needs to be a bit more flexible, and extend their hours. read more

Just completed the purchase of a car at the CarMax (from Joe Caruso) in Boynton Beach, Florida. BEST car purchase experience we have ever had, and we have been buying/selling cars for over 30 years. We live in DC, but purchased a place in West Palm, so looking for a nice, reliable car to have when we are in Florida. Looked on line extensively for a good value used car for ~$20k. Found many cars with numerous dealers. Headed to one dealer to see their stock and got the high pressure, time consuming experience we had feared....we did NOt want to spend a lot of time, just wanted to find a car and buy it, not have them ask a million questions, get the manager to talk to us, etc. We are experienced buyers, just wanted to see the damn cars and make our own decision. At the dealer it took FOREVER to get the keys for each car to test drive, for the salesman to find each car on the lot, etc. a HUGE time waste. Then we looked into CarMax for the first time. The website was awesome, made it SO easy to sort through their cars. It was the BEST experience ever. Thankfully we met Joe Caruso who was knowledgeable, efficient, very pleasant and got us exactly what we wanted with NO pressure, was able to open any car on the lot with his key, didn't mind us test driving several cars, transferred (free of charge) a car from their Miami location, that we wanted to see, etc. We communicated through text messages (at my request) so it was efficient, brief and convenient to communicate during the whole process. While Carmax may not be perfect, what is? I understand that it's hard to know much about every possible type of car, but it's important to really focus on each customer and sale and make sure they get the most important info. Having said that, I just bought my 3rd car from Carmax. Every transaction has been very pleasant and smooth. Every car has been great. Carmax really does take a lot of care to put good cars on the lot and prep them well. This transaction was very easy. I think it was because I knew what I wanted and Felicia understood that and did not crowd me or desert me. Perfect! Because I didn't have a lot of time, the need to run in with my drivers license for scanning was a bit annoying, but Felicia was quick. Maybe Carmax could have the sales force use their smart phones for that! Also, I didn't know the car required premium gas, but it seemed like Felicia knew and didn't mention it. I would think that would be something you tell the customer, because premium gas is expensive and I'm a working guy! Anyway, the car is great, the process was smooth and relaxed and I am happy. The associate at Boynton Beach Carmax was excellent. He did his best and was available constantly. Unfortunately, when I took the car in, the first week, for repairs, the repairs were not done correctly. But I contacted the associate and he said to bring it back in and he would personally supervise the repairs, this upcoming week. Right now, that 'new' vehicle is broken down on the side of the road waiting for a tow service to pick it up. Since I commute to work full time, the purpose of upgrading a vehicle was to have reliable transportation. Obviously, it was an epic fail. I am now without any transportation to work. I will say that the associate who sold me the car responded to my text and offered to help any way possible. He can not guarantee that Carmax will remedy the situation, as an associate. But I'm hopeful that Carmax will do the right thing and the unfortunate and inconvenient situation will be rectified. read more

I purchased a 2010 Honda CRV in 11/16 for my daughter. My experience from the very beginning has been absolutely great. The sales rep, Don McNamara was honest and attended to every issue I raised about the car. The whole purchase transaction was easy and fast (but it was a cash deal). What has sold me on making CarMax the place where I will purchase future cars is their warranty commitment. Two weeks after I got the car the rear brakes were making a grinding sound. Another CarMax facility inspected the car and they replaced the rear brakes, no questions asked. I drove the car to Denver, and noticed the starter making a strange sound. Mile High Honda said the starter was starting to go, and it would cost $639 to replace. I took it to the Littleton CarMax, on the 30th day of the warranty, and they replaced the starter. You can't beat this type of service and honesty. My experience involved 3 separate facilities; so the company culture is to thank. This company has made me a loyal customer. read more

I purchased a Jaguar XF from Car Max. The sales person and personal were excellent. However, the car immediately had issues. The day after purchasing the vehicle it had a flat tire and the fuel cap was detached and broken. They fixed my tire and promised to order a new fuel cap. I have still yet to receive the fuel cap and have called several times to check on the status. I feel like I am being ignored and need to get this issue resolved. I am a loyal customer as this is the second vehicle I have purchased from Car Max. I am very dissapointed in the lack of service. Car max just made me pay $200 to replace my spare key that wasn't programmed correctly. I was given two sets of push start keys at the time of purchase. I didn't know the second set was never programmed until needing it (of course). They couldn't get it programmed and have made me buy a whole new key because I didn't bring it back within 30 days. If I had known, obviously I would have. I won't buy from them again, the key still has the carmax tag on it. It's insane to me they wouldn't do this as a courtesy. read more

I visited yesterday to check out a couple of cars. A gentleman by the name of Matt was assigned to assist me in the process. It took about 45-60 minutes to test drive both vehicles and he was very patient. After the test drive, Matt answered all my questions regarding buying a car from carmax, except for one: I asked him what would happen if we got into an accident while out on a test drive. Both cars I test drove were in very good to excellent condition. Overall, a great experience, although I didn't buy a car from them that day. Went to buy a car with Roy about a year & a half ago, not only was this man very impatient, vague & rude but I was not allowed to test drive the car until I took it home. he made a promise that if I took the car that same day that they would cover my first oil change, which I ended up paying for out of pocket because no one had any recollection whatsoever of any promotion of the sort & Roy 'works with many people so doesn't recall saying anything of that nature' tried to see if I could get atleast a discount for the runaround & poor service & not even that could be given to me, asked to speak with a manger & I WAS. I kid you not this man looked so satisfied I was getting nowhere & laughed as I left the building. Roy also explained to me that I had a warranty of 75k miles when making my purchase & that it would be an extra $10 on my monthly payment, only to find out it covers 75k miles period. Not 75k on top of the mileage you buy it at, SCAM. Now here I am stuck with a car whose radio just stopped switching on suddenly & I have to pay about $730+90 to evaluate & get it fixed out of pocket because the warranty has 'expired' and no one can help me. People please be carful when buying a used car from Carmax. They say the cars are certified but they are not. Carmax only guarantees for 30 days after that if you have an electrical problem with your car and they can't figure out where the problem is your stuck with a car that stalls at random times. I bought the extra warranty for 3,000. Make sure you get this! My car has been in the repair shop 6 times before a year. If they can't find what's wrong with your car your stuck with a 100.00 fee plus the rental charges 40.00 a day. I'm a single mother struggling so to get a car that stalls and they can't figure it out is extremely scary. The car started stalling at 2 months so they wouldn't give me a different car.
