Had an amazing salesman Steve who showed me around to test drive two vehichles (after carmax pompano beach had a car put on hold with a sales order new years eve so I could come back the next day with my cosigner and process paperwork etc. And I called 3 times confirming, loaded parents into car and drove them down, 5 minutes before I got there called back and said car was sold the night previous (aka they sold it before the first time they told me they wrote up a sales order and put it on hold for me...)) one of the two vehicles was VERY smokey smelling, so Steve said he would get it cleaned... I came BACK THE NEXT DAY with my cosigner to test drive/she them the two cars and to make a decision, Steve was busy (even though I made an apointment) so he passed me off to who I now refer to as the worst salesman ever (aka WSE)... WSE shows me first car and in an abrasive manner tells me it's not what I want and drives it off to be parked. Tells us he will be back in less than 5 minutes with the keys to other vehicle so we can test drive.... 20-30 mins later after baking in the sun outside (cosigner has a cast on foot and couldn't walk back to building easily..) ... he finally returns and starts in about how all these other vehicles are what I want, blah blah blah... finally convince WSE to let me test the car I came there to sign paperwork on in reality... on test drive calls me foolish/dumb for driving around and test driving other cars, tells me every reason possible why I don't want the car I'm in, calls me and my mother poor essentially, told us he worked on comissions and test driving ONE car was wasting his time..... kept on insulting me until I has to yell at him after he rolled his eyes at me twice... If my mother has not been there, I was so disrespected it would have become me assaulting a salesman in the carmax parking lot... disrespected me so much I had to walk out of your store before I made him eat his own teeth. I have never had such a bad sales experience,and have never felt the need to get physical with a car salesman before now... not only will I NOT be buying the 24 thousand dollar car I was looking at, I will be going back in today to make a formal complaint with the GM and also with corporate... I Will never shop at a carmax again after the level of disrespect I was shown... I'm sure I'm forgetting half the insulting back talking comments he made to me, I was so mad.at the end of the test drive it was all I could do from stopping myself dragging WSE out the car and making him eat his teeth in your parking lot... if he had said half the things he said to me and I wasn't somewhere where there was video cameras... dude would have woken up in a hospital wondering what happened.... Will also be filing complains with every online rating service, carmax Facebook page etc.... Was treated so poorly I cannot let this go... and the worst part??? I actually wanted/needed the car I was looking at and was ready to sign, stuck down in FL until I get a car and drive back home, missing work over this..... And of course I am sure Carmax will do NOTHING to make this right.... read more

Went to buy a car with Roy about a year & a half ago, not only was this man very impatient, vague & rude but I was not allowed to test drive the car until I took it home. he made a promise that if I took the car that same day that they would cover my first oil change, which I ended up paying for out of pocket because no one had any recollection whatsoever of any promotion of the sort & Roy 'works with many people so doesn't recall saying anything of that nature' tried to see if I could get atleast a discount for the runaround & poor service & not even that could be given to me, asked to speak with a manger & I WAS. I kid you not this man looked so satisfied I was getting nowhere & laughed as I left the building. Roy also explained to me that I had a warranty of 75k miles when making my purchase & that it would be an extra $10 on my monthly payment, only to find out it covers 75k miles period. Not 75k on top of the mileage you buy it at, SCAM. Now here I am stuck with a car whose radio just stopped switching on suddenly & I have to pay about $730+90 to evaluate & get it fixed out of pocket because the warranty has 'expired' and no one can help me. Save your money because on top of the HORRIBLE service from not only the sales people, but ALL the staff, they're cars are over priced. read more

Well, as promised, Jenn Strattman from News Chanel 5 Watchdog aired the interview that made a wonderful impact on our situation. It went viral on Face Book and other social media networks. About four weeks ago, Auto Nation decided to step up to the plate and take over from Car Max who failed miserably in making any attempt to assist us. Auto Nation sold us a replacement vehicle at well below the sticker price and we negotiated a price that was acceptable to us. Car Max refunded a prorated portion of our Gap Waiver insurance that we never used, but paid for by us when we purchased our Cadillac. They also refunded a prorated amount in respect of our extended warranty which we also paid for when we purchased the vehicle. So it was our money that was refunded. ( That was big of them !!! ) After much toil with a very unhelpful corporate office, and several emails from my end, and intervention of WPBTV Chanel 5 Car Max offered pay us for our $500.00 deductible, and told me that was all they would pay. However, on the day of the broadcast CarMax issued a statement; forwarding it to the news channel for publication. And it goes like this: CarMax issued the following statement: "CarMax takes this situation very seriously and we are sorry that our customers have had to go through such an ordeal. While our customer privacy policies prevent us from discussing specifics, numerous teams and individuals within CarMax have worked to provide support to these customers as they work through this situation. CarMax provided a loaner vehicle for a period of time, reimbursements of unused portions of MaxCare and GAP waiver agreements, and has agreed to pay the customers their insurance deductible related to their insurance claim for their loss. We understand that these customers have selected to purchase another vehicle with another company, so we were unable to offer assistance in that transaction. Customer service is a top priority for CarMax and we are constantly seeking ways to improve how we serve and communicate with our customers. As such, we greatly appreciate the invaluable feedback we have received from these customers regarding their experience." -- Michelle Topping Ellwood, Public Affairs Spokesperson The truth of the matter is; no one from Car Max worked with us to provide support towards our problem. The meaning of the word " Support" is " backing" and no one from Car Max offered any backing. We never even received a call from the local branch where our car went for service and was ultimately stolen. They made it sound that they were overwhelming us with assistance, which has never been the case. If WPBTV Channel 5 had not intervened, we would never have received even a phone call from this despicable company. However, Auto Nation did say in their portion of the interview that Car Max should have accepted the responsibility as they were the customer that sent the vehicle to Auto Nation for service. In Palm Beach county when you take a car for service any liability for loss or damage to the vehicle remains the responsibility of the customer. Again; by Car Max sending our vehicle to another dealer makes them the customer of that dealer. Think hard before you use Car Max for your service needs. Purchased a car in april 16. Had no issues until summer of 18 when I suddenly broke down & needed an engine replaced. Associate brady, stated this normally only happens with poorly maintained vehicles but saw no evidence of abuse/poor maintenance & told me "shit happens sometimes". Less than a year later, the car was making similar noises & i decided to bring it back. I didnt have the chance, I towed it after breaking down on Mother's Day 2019. They stated I needed a transfer case which is normally from poor tire maintaince or having tires too large/small for the vehicle. I had brand new properly sized tires installed in Nov 18, so they told me that clearly isn't the cause. I was told again  "shit happens". They released the car on 06/07 with All the same issues. 06/14 I returned stating the issue was unresolved. I didn't receive my car back until 08/12, at which point they changed multiple engines out of my car as they installed faulty engines. I had the car for 4 days, same issues & now my AC suddenly was not functioning properly. Brady apologized & said it would be taken care of. Upon returned, I requested that the tech working on my car take a test ride w/ me to show him the exact issues I was referring. The tech obliged. We test drove the vehicle & the issues occurred on 3 separate occasions.  The tech told me he felt the issue & it was probably the transmission & it would be resolved. The service center later called to inform me it was not the transmission but the engine. Later, I was called by nick ahik, when brady suddenly quit without notice, to be told my car was ready. Actually his exact words were that my car was "as good as it was going to get". I came in & Turned on the car, the check engine light was immediately present. I drove the car & all the issues were still present + a chirping noise w/ acceleration. I relayed all this to Nick & returned the keys. Car was ready again on 10/15. I drove the car & it seemed to be normal except the ac. When I brought this to the Nick's attention, he claimed I never told him &  he could schedule me next week but I would have to pay. I told him this was unacceptable since the ac had stopped functioning while in their care & that both himself & brady had stated it would be taken care of. I requested to speak to a manager. the manager did not come out to speak to me. Instead he sent nick back to let me know that the diagnostic fee would be waived, & if the car required any sort of work that carmax would split the cost with me. Although I didn't feel like I should have to pay at all, I agreed.  I took my car & later that day experienced the same exact issues I had the entire time. I decided that I would bring it to their attention on Tuesday when I came back for the ac. Then while merging onto the turnpike, I SUDDENLY LOST POWER again in front of 2 semi trucks.  On 10/21, I spoke to nick & told him i still experiencing the same issues & they were now putting me in an unsafe vehicle & dangerous situations. He stated he would see where he could fit me in. I told him I had an appt the next morning & I expect to have a car ready for me since this vehicle as it obviously isn't completed or safe. I came in today for 9 AM appt & a car was not ready for me. Nick tried to coerce me into saying I had a new issue/ complaint presumably to charge me again. I repeatedly stated this is not a new issue, It is the same issue I've had for 162 days. I requested a Manager. 10 AM, the manger stu stated that he would have to test drive the vehicle. By 1027AM, him & a tech test drove my vehicle & shortly afterwards returned to me stating that he did hear/feel the issue & the would be running further diagnostics. It is now 1131 AM & I'm only now leaving, without my car yet again. 162 days to be "as good as it's going to get" & putting my safety in jeopardy is unacceptable.  When a broken arm heals & lacks mobility, ok. I accept that is "as good as it gets " But when I am paying for repairs under my warranty, on a car I am still making payments on, I expect the car to be safe & completely functional. read more

I had it for 5 days, and while on there web site I saw another SantaFe with more features. I was able to exchange my SantaFe for the one with more features WITH NO PROBLEMS. I found the experience to be better then I expected. I told the salesman Bill Kelley that I was just there to look around and most would likely not be buying today since they did not have the small convertibles under $20K that I was interested in on their lot (but they were in their system). I said I wanted to "try on" several I had been watching on line to make sure I would be comfortable in them. A VW Beetle, a Mini Cooper, a Mustang a Camaro and a BMW 1 or 3 series. But I said that when I did buy, which would be soon, I would buy from him even if it meant transferring in a car from another location. He said "sure" and showed me all 4 cars. That "try on" was really important since I found that neither the Mustang or Camaro were comfortable at all. On the way back to the showroom he showed me a BMW 128i convertible, red with tan interior. And I knew immediately that this was the car. We took a test drive and agreed right then I'd buy it. One thing that really made the deal happen was that I brought in my old car for an estimate and it exceeded my idea of what I might get for it. (And I didn't have to try to sell it on Craig's list and the hassle that usually comes with that). If they buy your car and you buy one of theirs they apply the value for yours as a down payment and lower the price of what you are buying for sales tax purposes. That is a bonus since it allowed me to bring in my old car and leave with the new one. I came back the next day with my check and drove off with the red BMW 128i convertible and have been enjoying it ever since. read more

We bought our 2009 Dodge Charger from Carmax in Pompano but we live in Boynton so we deal with the local service department. After the 1st week of driving our car we noticed that there were electrical issues and brought the car in to be checked out. We were advised that this was normal that there was nothing wrong with the car. Here we are months later and recently my car has in the shop in Boynton 2x's each for a length of time 1st was over 2wks this last time was just short of a week. Have to say the service guy Michael was very nice and gave us a loaner car each time so we did not have to pay a rental. Thats the positive. The negative is that every time we were told the car was fixed it wasnt. I dont know what the service guys are telling him but its not being fixed. Yesterday I picked up my car was told they determined it was a bad battery cell and they replaced the battery - I asked if they checked into the radio staying on after the car is turned off and the door is opened.. he stated that his guys told him they could not reproduce this. I asked if they checked out why the car would not start after running for awhile and then dying when you try to restart the car.. told they could not reproduce this. Its amazing that they cant but each and every time I get in my car I have these things happen to me repeatedly. I even found articles on the web that show people with this same car are going thru the same problems and printed and gave them to Michael. Was told this was not helpful it was not the problem. So now I am paying for a car that still does not work, we brought it in within the 1st week were told it was normal so the warranty is now gone and stuck for a car that wont work but still have to pay on. The service department does not do a good job, we have been told that things are fixed when they are not. Nothing but excuses everytime as to why they cant figure out the problems and as I said a car that is at best working 50% of the time. I would never buy another car from this company based on my 1st experience with this car. I will be setting up complaints with the BBB and any state agency that will listen. I even offered to exchange the car for another one but they said now the car 1 yr later is worth 1/2 the cost and we would owe on top of the switched car... really frustrating to not be able to trust your car to go to work or do errands for fear it will just break down and then have to be towed in yet again! Bought a 2013 turbo veloster... loved the car, until 2 days after I bought it I take it back in because 3 speakers are blown... THREE... how do you have a car on the lot that has three speakers blown and you had no idea?? I go in to get them fixed, they ordered the wrong speaker and I sit for 2 hours just to have to return another time to replace the last speaker. 1 day later my trunk will not open(mind you this is all electronic). And 2 days later now my driver side window isn't working properly and making horrible noises. So I call to speak with a manager about my options because I did not purchase the warranty because I'm already paying over $300 a month. He tells me that "if anything happens it's on me". He was a total jerkoff and so rude, pretty disappointing that, he is a MANAGER here. So I buy a car and I have 5 days to return... yeah ok cause I'm 5 days you know if you were sold a car that was electronically messed up. CarMax relies on referrals well don't you worry because I will be referring you to nobody and continuing to put bad reviews anywhere I go. Writing as a seller, I was very pleased with my recent experience at CarMax in Boynton Beach. I was there to sell my elderly mom's car, a 2010 Prius with low mileage. I had done my homework beforehand, checking dealer prices and car values on Kelly Blue Book and on CarFax, so I knew what range of prices we might be offered for the car. We were greeted upon entering CarFax, someone was immediately sent to check out the car, and we were told that it would take about a half hour, which it did. The appraisal price we were given exceeded my expectations, close to the maximum of the range I had found. The offer was good until they closed that day. I almost accepted right then and there, but CarDrop was across the street, and I was curious to see what they would offer. They offered less than HALF of what CarMax did (which tells you more about CarDrop than it does about CarMax). We went back to CarMax and received a check for the car within a half hour (a bit of a long time to wait for the paper work, which was the only negative of the experience). read more

This review involves selling a car to Carmax. I went to the Boynton location yesterday to get an estimate on selling my car. The written estimate was $15,000. Today I went to a dealer to buy a new care. Their estimate-$9,000! Shocking! I went back to Carmax and, within 30 minutes, left with a check for $15,000. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT trade in a car without taking it to Carmax first. One other thing, I got the appraisal in Boynton and they honored the appraisal in Pompano which was more convenient to my purchase. Great experience! read more

I came to Carmax because my boss told me I would get the best deal for my trade in. I was planning on actually buying my next car from an acquaintance somewhere else and just getting money for my trade in here (which you can do but my plans changed). I was greeted right away by Greg who was a new employee and apparently it was his 1st week on the floor. I'm in sales myself and while that may make someone nervous, I was happy for him to practice on me. Greg helped me shop the way I wanted and I ended up finding a car I fell in love with. I got a great deal on my trade in (about 300 more than elsewhere) and he gave me 4 finance options to choose from. Greg could not answer all my questions so he would get his supervisors on hand that day (Ron and Stella) to come in anytime he got stumped. I was ok with that. What I was not ok with was that niether Ron or Stella would just stay with him on what I much later found out was his 1st sale. There were MANY MANY mistakes that were made that could have been prevented and what should have took a couple hrs took all day. Wells Fargo offered me the best finance rate but being that I just moved 2 weeks prior I wasnt prepared to show proof of residence. Ron told me to come back in 5 days with something from the bank that shows my name and address and they could switch me over. I took the higher rate for now and scheduled a switch of shifts at work so I could be back in time to handle that. I came back 3 days later with a statement from the bank and the supervisor on hand that day (JD) asked me to log into my account on the computer they had there. He printed up a statement and said the finance company would want the paper to show it was printed from their side. If that is the case then why would Ron tell me to come back with it? He must have known whatever I brought in wouldn't be good enough and was banking on me just taking the higher deal and not come back. So now my car had to be returned and resold back to me. You can imagine how much I was looking forward to another day of problems but this second trip was flawless. JD and Matt really took the time to tell me everything and went out of their way to turn my opinion around about the company. Matt is an exceptional employee and did all the work himself and I was out in less than 45 mins. I can tell this company does make it easier to buy a car but unfortunately the 1st time around I had a couple of supervisors that just didnt care about me or the new guy on their shift. It's a great thing they had Matt and JD there that 2nd day. I would come back now because of them. read more

I specifically started using Yelp just so I can write this review. This place is horrible if you are looking to purchase a car! I would never recommend a friend/family here. I purchased a BMW in May of this year and there's been so many problems. I'm literally at Carmax every other week getting something new fixed & I HATE IT. I can write a list of all the things I have gotten fixed on my car. I have paid tons of money & it's never satisfying. I've asked to speak to the auto service manager & even left voicemail messages for him to contact me back & I've never heard from him. The customer reps are not the best, nice on the phone but when in urgent need, they do not answer or here to help. I don't know what in the hell is wrong with their auto technicians because NOTHING ever gets fixed. I always have to come back a week later. They have NEVER voluntarily given me a loaner to use while they fix my car. It is so inconvenient and not fair at all. Their own towing company (Velocity Towing)has even told me that they've had to tow many cars over there & that they are bad. I'm in the process to call corporate and further express my frustrations with Carmax because it is really getting out hand & right about now, I wish I have NEVER purchased a vehicle here!! read more

I have bought and sold several cars with carmax. This is the first time that I felt like they were ripping me off. I had my car appraised there a month prior and had not driven the car more than 100 miles and no change in condition in between visits. The new appraisal was $1000 dollars less and $2000 below KBB and NADA. I asked them to honor the origina appraisal and they said no. The reason they gave me was that because it was a Prius and with lower gases prices, people don't care about gas mileage anymore. I don't even know where to begin! This was our third purchase from CarMax. I was very happy with them and really liked their concept. I recommended them all the time and brought my mom and best friend there to buy their cars. Never again! We bought the extended service plan on our Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. It had a few problems so we brought it in on Saturday, September 13,2014. Shocked to learn their service dept. is closed on weekends. We left our keys and a detailed list of the issues the car had. Several days went by and we never heard from them. We called on Tuesday, and were told Hyundai was covering it under the manufacturer warranty. They would get the car to the dealership and have everything done. A few days later, a different person called to say the previous one was mistaken. We had to come get the car from CarMax and take it to Hyundai. We were slightly annoyed, but went the following Saturday down to get it. After about 2 hours of exasperating lack of customer service at the counter, we learn they have lost the car! Who loses a car?!?! Then after the General Manager and my husband walk off the entire lot, we find the vehicle. Only the key fob is lost and the license plate is gone. Again, how does this happen!?! After explaining the problems that needed to be repaired, we leave, with assurance that they will indeed get the car to Hyundai, new key fob ordered and a new plate. Well, it is now October 17th, over a month and I am still without a car. Daily phone calls to corporate, the GM of this location and the manager of the service department only get us vague reassurances of possibly the next day to get our car back. I have never seen anything like it! Not sure what is going on here, but am outraged and flabbergasted! There were more problems, big problems, but this is already getting lengthy, so I will end with, do not support this dealership! You will have headaches and problems beyond your wildest imaginings! read more

This was my first experience with CarMax, but almost certainly not my last. I'm a firm believer in making a human connection and responding to good results with longer-term loyalty. I recently moved to S. Florida after leaving the northeast, and had a full-sized pickup I no longer need (yay! No snow.). I arranged to sell my truck while on a ship and at sea. Joe Caruso was thorough and friendly, and patiently dealt with arranging everything while I was a long ways away and working on an opposite schedule from normal business hours. My truck is almost new, but had a lot of minor cosmetic damage which depressed the price. I went to 3 estimators to get a feel for the price, and Carmax made me the best offer anyhow. I had to pay THEM to pay off the loan for my bank, which was odd but made things easier, and no one likes to throw money away, but having spoken to Joe, I sat on their offer a few days to decide whether or not to accept it, and eventually decided to sell. My personal experience with the folks at CarMax's office staff wasn't as great- there was some extra waiting as they don't have enough office equipment to process more than one sale or purchase at a time, even though they have plenty of warm bodies trying to help. I ended up handing off my truck and going shopping rather than waiting for their staff to get to the front of the line to use their fax and copy machine. Faisel helped with my sale, and was competent and friendly- exactly the sort of person you want to do a relatively unpleasant task like losing a couple of grand on an unwanted vehicle. More than anything else, I was impressed with Joe Caruso's sales tactics. No hard sell, no false promises, plenty of empathy and an obvious good nature. If the Boynton Beach branch could improve the efficiency of their business office and maybe not have a waiting room that felt exactly like a bus station, that'd be 5-star material. As it is, barring anything new, I'll probably come here if I ever buy a used car. read more

Incredible options. NO ONE has the resources of Carmax. Whatever you ever wanted. Any color or power or style options are amazingly available. I have purchased a lot of vehicles, almost exclusively from the big dealerships. Every one of them finds a way to make a service issue be "your fault". They protect their brand. Carmax has no brand loyalty. In Boynton Beach, Service Manager Michael B. has given the type of quality service attention that doesn't exist elsewhere. I had major items on a Mercedes (the entire AC system & front suspension) which were repaired w/out batting an eye. When I wondered about my repairs, my phone would ring. It would be Michael, giving me an update. Can you imagine? I'm not making it up. Michael & his manager exemplify superior training & personnel staffing. Because of them, my wife and I have purchased 3 other cars from Carmax. I have given them several opportunities to disappoint me, but they take care of me every time. Now I'm starting to expect it. I went to have a 2008 Cadillac appraised and the saleman offered me $3000 below Kelley Blue Book and all he could find was no sunroof and aftermarket wheels( brand new Michelins) since when is that a negative? He also intimated that since the mileage was low that I messed with odometer.Obviously, he is not aware of all the wealthy snowbirds who have cars at multiple homes, thus low mileage... Wow , what a sleeze. I bought the cadillac from a reputable Cadillac dealer in Delray. I also have been a great Carmax customer. Bought two cars and sold them three in the past. I loved them, as they were honest and straight forward ( no annoying sleezy salesmen) Sorry that is no longer the case. They tried to rip me off and give me bad info on my car. The grand finale is they scratched up my flawless Cadillac in the test drive!(the front bumper has a huge gash from crashing in to something. I am not bothering trying to pursue it, as they are dishonest and would deny it. read more
