I paid $199 on 4/13/26 to have a 2024 KIA Telluride shipped from FL to Fayetteville, NC location. I scheduled an appointment to test drive the vehicle today, 4/27/26. However, to my disappointment the vehicle was not in the condition pictured online. It had multiple areas with chipped paint on the front bumper, around the windows, and top of the vehicle. It has a large scratch on the plastic above the tire on the driver side going down the bumper. I questioned the salesman why this was not documented online or if it happened during transit why wasn't I notified. He advised it's a used car it's going to have imperfections. Online the listing only showed an imperfection for one of the rims. If this vehicle would have been accurately posted online I would have NEVER paid for shipping cost. This vehicle only has 12,XXX miles and 2 years old. I requested a refund for the shipping cost through corporate due to the way this vehicle is fraudulently shown online. I spoke with salesman at the Fayetteville location they informed me the manager did not see anything wrong with the vehicle. I informed him of all the areas I saw wrong with the vehicle. He stated he would go look and call me back. He returned my call a little later stating those are all signs of normal wear and tear on a used vehicle. They do not show those pictures online because it's normal. I asked him about the scratches. He told me good news he was able to get it off with his fingernails. He wanted me to come back to look at the vehicle. I advised him no way he got the scratches off with his fingernails. I felt of the scratches myself while viewing the vehicle. The scratches did not budge, paint was completely gone, and the metal of the car was showing. He stated he would not be able to refund me but could give me a $199 credit to have another vehicle shipped through Carmax. I explained I wanted a refund and did not want another vehicle shipped here. He refused the refund and stated they don't post all imperfections of cars online. The 360 pictures online are stock photos. They don't have access to take 360 photos. I explained in detail the other photos posted did not show the scratches on the bumper or chipped paint on the vehicle. This was my FIRST experience with Carmax and it will be my LAST. This is complete FRAUD to inaccurately represent a vehicle condition online. I would have NEVER paid to ship the vehicle here if I would have known the accurate condition. DO NOT SHIP/PURCHASE vehicles from Carmax. They are shady and do dirty business! No way he got those scratches off with his fingernails. I have attached pictures of the online post as well as pictures I took today of the vehicle. You can see for yourself how fraudulently this vehicle was advertised. Carmax should 100% give me a refund for its FALSE advertisement! If I could give them NEGATIVE STARS I would. They do not even deserve a 1 star! UPDATE 4/28/26: Carmax Customer Service REFUSED to refund my money. Will only provide a $199 shipping credit to have another vehicle shipped. They told me today they were able to buff the scratch off of the bumper on the vehicle. However, yesterday I was told they were able to use their fingernails to get the scratch off the bumper. So which one is it? Regardless the vehicle had a scratch, chipped paint, etc that was NOT documented online. My experience didn't start out the best! 3 staff members attempted to assist me with finding the vehicle I wanted to purchase. The system showed the vehicle had not been sold and was in a specific location on their lot. I walked the entire lot searching (a suggestion from an employee). The system was inaccurate; I honestly thought of going to another dealership. However, Aaron Monroe was sent to assist me and everything went smoothly from that moment on. It took him no time to figure out the vehicle had been loaned to a customer getting their car serviced. He took the extra steps necessary to ensure I was able to purchase the vehicle I had planned on and truly wanted. He contacted the customer, who was kind enough to return the loaner for another vehicle the next day. Aaron was scheduled off the next day. So I thought about waiting for his return. That wasn't necessary, he had me come in and to Darrance Dixon to finalize the sell. He was amazing. Great customer service skills and right down to business. Fayetteville Carmax has been the worst experience of me purchasing a car ever in my life. It is taken almost a month for me to get this vehicle and as I sit here typing this right now, I still am not in possession of the vehicle. I got a loan through my bank. They have confirmed funds, but they're still asking for things that aren't even possible. They would not accept the fact that my bank was sending payment check USPS so I was forced to spend extra money and have it overnighted through UPS. I've had the unfortunate experience of owning 7 cars with CarMax and more than half of them have been lemons with hidden issues that they never disclosed to me because they still apparently had clean titles even though they secretly have body work done at a local body shop to try and fix an accident that happened. They bid on and buy the cheapest cars from insurance auctions and rental agencies and try to sell them to you as if they're in perfect condition with their "120 point" inspection and amazing MaxCare warranty but every experience I've had with each vehicle has been atrocious and I've legitimately lost over 20,000$ over the years by getting conned through the issues with these cars I've had. Management lacks integrity, employees don't care, and the service department is incompetent. I purchased a vehicle there after waiting 3 weeks for them to fix an issue with the emergency brake. They finally said it was fixed and 3 months later it seized in the locked position. I took it in to have it fixed under warranty because I didn't trust the CarMax service department as they had already failed to fix it once. The warranty claimed was denied by the expensive after market warranty I purchased when I purchased the vehicle. I contacted CarMax to let them know the situation and they told me to bring it in. Promptly upon arriving there they gave me a very well rehearsed statement about how I had not been on the tittle when the original repair was done they were under no obligation to fix anything unless it was what they had already replaced in the first instance. Now I am stuck holding the bill for a $900 repair because they failed to repair the issue in the first place, lied to me and told me it was fixed, and then refuse to honor their initial agreement to fix the issue before purchased. This was by far and away the ABSOLUTE WORST experience I've had purchasing a vehicle. No one enjoys the whole car buying experience by any means but this was on a completely different level. I had never previously used carmax. Their prices appeared slightly less than some of the local dealerships so we were open to the idea of giving them a look. "Hastle free" sounds good, right? My husband found a truck on their search engine in Pennsylvania and he fell in love. We agreed to have the truck shipped down. As we were almost sure this was the truck we gladly paid the shipping fee (this is a requirement by Carmax). We excitedly awaited the truck's arrival which did end up taking much longer than expected (a few weeks)... for them to prepare the vehicle for viewing added to that wait time as well. We were nevertheless excited to go check it out. We found a paint chip and a sagging brake line on the truck but with repair to those few things we were willing to purchase. The sagging brake line is a safety issue that must be repaired before purchase of any vehicle from Carmax or they can be considered liable. So really the only additional repair we requested was the touch up to a pencil eraser sized paint chip. We waited patiently again and waited and waited... AND WAITED... we made phone calls to check up on the progress of the repair all along, with no real updates just that "they were still working on it". The problem was a spring in the emergency brake line used for release. During those few weeks we were called and informed the truck was ready. We rushed down to the dealership and waited 45 minutes for an employee to come out and tell us it was a mistake, and the truck was in fact NOT ready for pick up. Another week went by and here we find ourselves a month in, just waiting on the repair... along with the other weeks we waited for delivery alone. As you can imagine at this point we were becoming extremely worried and impatient. In hindsight I wish we had walked away there. We decided it best to involve corporate office and the wait time miraculously sped up. The truck was ready within two days. The brake line did not appear to be sagging anymore upon pick up and everything seemed to be in working order upon test driving the vehicle. We were discouraged at this point but glad the wait was FINALLY over and he had his new truck. After having the truck a few months the emergency brake began to not release completely and the brake line again sagging. We had another repair shop look at the problem. After their diagnostic they informed us the spring was badly rusted and no possible way this had ever been replaced. We decided to make carmax aware of the issue. They gave him and appointment to bring the truck in to look at. My husband was unable to even pull the truck into the bay of the garage before they met him outside and informed him the would not even look at the vehicle. Their statement was the vehicle was yet to be in our name when they repaired the brake line therefore they were not responsible. By the way... we weren't allowed to technically complete the entire purchasing paper work until after the "supposed repair" so that is where they will get you on requested repairs. Please save yourself the immense head ache and distress of going to Carmax. The buying process maybe easy and quick for someone NOT looking into the actual mechanics of the vehicle. I'm sure later that would come back to haunt an unsuspecting customer. I myself will NEVER return to a Carmax, and I will be advising anyone I know in search of a vehicle to stay clear of them. Honestly I'd rather have the $40 extra dollars on my monthly payment and know that a dealership stands by the integrity of the vehicle. I have been working with Carmax for a total of 5 days. The beginning process was difficult as it seems that no everyone communicates effectively. I had to redo my paperwork 3 times due to 2 people telling me 2 different things. I finally made contact with Shalonda & she was helpful but despite us getting on the phone for over a hour I was contact the 4th day and was told from each person I spoke to before Harrison at the Fayetteville office confirmed that, I was okay to get the car. Prior to speaking to Harrison I had not only been approved on the same car 4 different times due to Carmax lack of communication and data entering I was approved for a down payment that I was prepared to pay. Harrison stated that my down payment doubled the day I was supposed to pick it up. I sent over all the information back to Harrison again the day speaking to him and have yet to hear back from him 48 hours. I spoke with Natasha for 1.47 minutes and she told me that they transaction team had not only not gotten to my account but she didn't understand why the information was so messed up & what steps she would have done. I called the next day asked to speak to a Store manager as she told me to do and she told me to do, unfortunately I was greeted on the phone by someone who did care. I finally got a whole of another manager after hanging up and calling back to speak to someone politely only to find out that Harrison never did anything with my account. This process has been a total nightmare and it is unfortunate that they decided to drag me along for 4 now 5 days. Not only that I knew I was okay to purchase the car because through the exchange I was told the only thing I needed was insurance which I paid $307 for. While replacing engine the catalytic converter failed due to extreme rust. Carmax refused to repair. Beware Carmax will not stand by their used cars! DO NOT LOOK AT CARS HERE! I live all the way in Rock Hill, SC and saw that this location had my dream vehicle in stock. I reserved a test drive for tomorrow as we have friends who live in the Fayetteville area, so it was no issue to drive there for the test drive and spend the day with friends. I called last evening around 7:00 as my husband wanted to look at the underside of the car on a lift since it was originally owned in New Hampshire. After making it through holding with the corporate customer service line, they connected me directly to this location. A woman answered and I let her know I had an appointment on Sunday to see this car and I was wondering if there was an option to see it on a lift..."No, we don't do that. Anything else?" ...yeah, I have more questions. I asked if it would be possible to reserve the car for the 24-hour test drive and take it somewhere else to be viewed on a lift..."Well, I don't know. That would be a question for...uh...hold on a second." This entire interaction was maybe two minutes long, if that. And then I was transferred back to the corporate customer service line? I explained to the second corporate rep what happened and she kindly connected me back to this store. Said she was even going to stay on the line until they picked up just to make sure. A different woman answered the phone this time, "Fayetteville CarMax, can I place you on a brief hold?" Sure, I guess. After holding for literally 27 minutes, I hung up and immediately cancelled my appointment.
