Well let me say there business office is unprofessional and the service department called me and now they can't find my car. I had to sit for 30min. The business office had to call the manager to come find my car. The ladies at the business office treated me like I wasn't important at all. Had the best time getting my new Chevrolet Sonic! My sales rep Mark was gracious and very attentive to helping me find my dream car. He never pressured and was polite. What is nice about Carmax is that here is an overall, baseline pricing based on objective car details: make and model, miles, features, ect. At first I thought it was pricey ( compared to other deals found online) but because they have flat pricing, it was a great equalizer of purchasing a car. No haggling or persuading. Less pressure. The return process- a 5 day money back return- was less than 20 minutes and easy peasy. Despite Mark's advice, I impulsively bought a car, and when I found out for myself it did not meet my needs, sought to return it. Awesome! Non problems! Got deposit via check back and within. The online experience was nice however after making a selection, scheduleing an appointment and driving an hour to get a deal done, we waited an hour in the car lot after checking in at the front desk and spoke with no one. I really like the idea of Carmax but I'm not sure I can recommend them now. 2 days ago we bought a 2014 Corolla for my daughter. As the car was being prepped, they caught a tire issue. Glad they caught the tire issue, but day after day goes by and no replacement tires. Have been on the phone with service management and location management. Deadlines come and go. This evening they "hoped to have the car ready" but my voicemail has gone unanswered and no update. Remember. This unhappy customer is for a Tire for a Corolla. Sooo. Not rocket science. They are just being cheap and insisting on waiting for their tire distributor. We actually found cars on the lot with other service issues, including one that wouldn't start at all. I decided this time not to get the shaft on the trade in side of a new pickup purchase and took my Toyota Tundra to CarMax instead. The price they offered me was indeed higher -- by $1,000! -- over what the dealership would have given. It only took about a half hour to get the appraisal back while we sat and chatted with our "host" if you will. He then explained why they had given us this price. There was no pressure to sell them our truck at all. The appraisal was very detailed too. As a test of price, we went down the street to Toyota of Greenville's used car department and they spent all of 3 minutes looking at our pickup. Guy asked if we'd been to CarMax? We mumbled yes. He replied "then you should sell it to them, they'll give you the best price for it because we aren't interested in this truck." A back-handed compliment for sure but a recommendation none the less. This same exact attitude is also why we didn't buy our new Tacoma from them either. Give CarMax a shot before you just trade in your vehicle. $1,000 higher is quite a difference and well worth the extra stop. read more

I already reviewed the Sales department at Carmax, which is 5+ stars outstanding. The Service department is helpful and friendly. They stand by what they sell, no questions asked. The vehicle I most recently purchased from them had many small issues develop within 30 days of delivery, and they made sure all were resolved, although a few of them took multiple visits to fix. Along those lines, my one complaint is, if you can't leave your vehicle with them for the full day, it takes a LONG time to get an appointment - 3+ weeks. They apparently have very few slots open for customers who wait. So, it can realistically take 6 or more weeks to get something resolved. For me, and I'd venture to say most people, finding a ride during the work week is kind of hard, especially if you don't live close by. read more

I wanted to test drive a car with a view to purchasing the car. First of all I was told I needed an appointment to test drive the car, so I went online to book an appointment. Went back to the showroom at my allotted time only to be told I would have to wait anything up to an hour. This in my opinion is not acceptable and they clearly didn't care about my time. So I told them to cancel and left. Got a call on my way home and asked how they can help me. No communication between reception and sale associate. Told him I don't have time to come back. He didn't seem bothered that they'd let me down. On the whole I would say they do not value their customers unless you are prepared to wait on them. Not good enough. i will not be going to them ever again and I am sure they don't care about that either. read more

Recently my daughter bought a used Nissan from them a few months ago. What a nightmare! She made a trip up North and noticed a leak and noise coming from the front end. The bill over $1,000. Plus she's on the highway heading home with kids in the car going through a bad rain storm. She goes to put on her hazard lights no lights. Come to find out CarMax never plugged in the lights. When confronted they would do NOTHING. She also needed a new front end and total brakes. They sell junk and once they do they don't want anything to do with you. DON'T BUY FROM THEM! This place is a joke!! my daughter got a car from there a week ago and wow!! First she couldn't go over 68 without is shaking like crazy! So she called them and they told her to bring it in on the 17th mind you this was the seventh so she took it to par three and had to pay to get an alignment and a rotation on her tires and then it was driving just fine. Then this Saturday night she was driving down Highway 85 and her steering went out. This could have ended very badly so I called this morning to get it towed to Carmax in Greenville and first they said oh we don't go that far we don't tell cars what the fuck!! so they have picked up the car now and my daughter will be going there when she gets off work to give them hell and hasn't decided if she wants another vehicle from them because is it gonna do the same thing.. My only complaint is that the last car we bought here was in their shop several times for the same issue they just couldn't get right. However, they did keep on trying. If you are looking for a new car, do NOT use CarMax. They do not value customer service. They sell hundreds of cars every day and is a high volume company - they care about money. We have had countless mechanical/service issues that have gone unresolved, which resulted in rude, careless communication between technicians and the business office to myself. I bought my car 6 months ago, and have 5 months of service reports that have gone unresolved. We have had a leaking sunroof for the last 3 or more months that has not been fixed. It turns out the seal on the sunroof was damaged after the second time we brought the car in to be looked at. CarMax informed us that we would pay $3,000 out of pocket to replace the entire sunroof, glass included. We were told they could not make the repair without removing the glass. After multiple battles, we learned the damage happened when the car was under the watch and "care" of CarMax during my second visit. They eventually, after long conversations and countless visits, agreed to pay for the repair. My car was in the shop for 10 days! I picked the car up on a Friday evening and the next Monday morning after a rain shower, I opened my car to find water in my cup holders and a completely saturated roof. When I visited the shop that Monday morning, I was then informed that our car did not receive a full replacement like we were told. They did the cheapest option for themselves because they were paying for the repair. No one apologized, no one cared that we now had another leak on our hands to deal with and no one cared about the time, energy, days off from work, stress and frustration. CarMax doesn't care about the customer. They only care about the number of cars coming in and going out. There is DECEPTION oozing out of the doors. At our last service visit, the service department documented (with a time stamp) the mileage of my car at the time of service (35,563). We asked they appraise the vehicle before we picked it up (because we were getting incredibly frustrated at the amount of issues and lack of service. The appraisal read 36,093 miles!! This appraisal was time stamped only 2 hours after my car was finished being "serviced." We spoke with multiple people, while trying to get the General Manager to the store to speak directly with him, but was unwilling to do so. Each person we spoke with gave us a different story. We spoke with 10 different people, and received 10 different stories about our car maintenance. We didn't want to speak with 10 different people, but CarMax just hands a problem to the next person, and you go around in circles. You think you are getting a good deal, but you are not! Do your research and take your business elsewhere - let our mistake help you make a better decision. We ended up working out a deal to sell the car back to CarMax but took our business elsewhere. We bought a vehicle from Dick Brooks Honda in Greer SC and received excellent customer service and reliable information. read more

I went to Carmax in Greenville, SC today to get appraisal for my 2017 Mercedes E300 with 6600 miles. Mr. Sam greeted me and helped me thru the process. He was very professional. My car is very clean and still looks brand new. I looked at the same car online (cargurus) with similar miles, they sell it for about $49,000 on the lot. That being said Carmax offered me $37,000 for my car, $12,000 difference! I felt like I just got cheated even though I have the option not to sell my car here. I spoke with the manager, John, about the low appraisal, he tried to explain to me that was the wholesale value. He pulled up the same model year 2017 mercedesE300 from a website on his phone but with 18,000 miles (vey high) priced at $43,000. He said that was the market price but my car only has 6600 miles! He said it doesn't matter about the miles. It seems like the manager does not know much about car market and they will make up anything just so they will be right. I don't recommend SELLING your vehicle here and I would never spend a dollar at this business. They are plenty of local dealerships (Carlton Mercedes, Lexus of Greenville, or Toyota,Nissan of Greer, etc) that would make it right and more professional. Also, they did not give me the appraisal from KBB which they are supposed to. They said my car is too new. Fishy!!!!! Don't waste your time here people! read more

A little bit of the hard sell on the extended warranty program but to be expected in a capitalist system. I did feel like I got screwed on the after sale process. The closer said my paperwork would be sent to me in NC by FedEx. FedEx nearest office to me is located in Asheville, 78 miles from my home rather than UPS, which is 2.5 miles from my home. Of course FedEx tried to deliver during a half hour interval when I wasn't home and not expecting them, then insisted I come to their office to pick it up rather than redelivering. read more

A few weeks ago I attempted to purchase an Audi at Carmax. After the initial call with a representative at the South Lake location, from whence I would be transferring the car, I received no updates. No contact. It was impossible to reach anyone by phone. The two times I received any information at all, were only after I drove to the dealership as their phone system is such a disaster. I was in the dark the entire time, waiting for the car to arrive, with no help from anyone. During my second visit, the salesperson told me the car had arrived a few days ago (of which I was never informed) and was next door at Steve White Audi being inspected. Having done a lot of business with Steve White over the years I headed over to further investigate, and to determine what the issue with the car was in order to assist in my decision making. They had never heard of the vehicle, but the service manager was kind enough to print off the full detailed history of the vehicle. The Carmax rep had blatantly lied, directly to my face. Absolutely abhorrent and unprofessional. Disgraceful. I did not appreciate them playing three card monty with my car, and I will never do business with these liars again. I would not recommend them to anyone, even someone I disliked. Horrible experience. read more

CarMax Greenville goes the extra mile for their customers. We searched far and wide for a truck for our son and finally found exactly what he wanted through CarMax. They took his vehicle as trade and we were signing the ownership paperwork on his new truck. THIS IS WHEN THEIR COMMITMENT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS SHINED SO READ TO THE END. As we were signing the paperwork the manager came and told us they dented the truck while taking it into the car wash. Sure enough, the drivers side of the truck bed was smashed and looked unrepairable. The Manager quickly discussed our options: 1. Find another truck 2. Cancel today's deal and we leave in my sons car 3. Replace the damaged truck bed panel. We looked at inventory across the country ( which CarMax would pay transfer) but did not find a similar truck with the same features. We ultimately chose to have panel replaced. CarMax replaced the truck bed panel and provided a loaner vehicle for my son to drive while waiting. CarMax kept us up to date on repairs on a daily basis. The truck was repaired and truly looked like a brand new truck. When a problem presented itself CarMax remained calm and respectful, Laid out the options to remedy, and left the decision up to us. My son loves his new truck and I plan on using CarMax the next time I purchase a vehicle. 5 Stars. read more

Just purchased a vehicle here and I must say I was a very happy customer. I wasn't sure if I was going to purchase or not at first as I really just asked to see the vehicle however it needed to be transferred from out of state. Carmax really did provide all the information I needed to make a decision as well as vehicle history which is very important. I literally research everything and after a year long search I was ready today. I didn't give them 5 stars only because I wish they would've walked me through all the options on the vehicle like setting up apple carplay etc. but that is not a big deal. I can read : ) I would highly recommend them as they never pressure you to do anything and provide great customer service. Everytime the run a "scenario" on your vehicle, several banks perform another hard pull on your credit report. Sales people telling you the whole time that if you were looking for a car within a 2 week period, each pull doesn't count against you. Since that day, evidence has shown that is just not true. Each pull is absolutely counted, and my report shows "obsessive inquiries". They are sending your same report to the exact same finance companies. Please CarMax, FIGURE THAT OUT!!! This should not be the only way to get it done. read more

This was our 4th Carmax experience, 3 buying and 1 selling. All were very positive. Quick and easy with no hard sell. They'll offer the extended service plan, but once I said no thanks, that was it. With a traditional dealership, you could walk in with a suitcase full of cash and have a car picked out and you'd still be at the dealership for 3 hours while they pushed the undercoating, window etching and floor mat insurance. In the recent purchase, we discovered a small oil leak once we got the vehicle home, called Carmax, brought it in. They had to keep it overnight, but gave us a loaner. The issue was repaired the next day. I'm not saying I'll never buy from another outfit, but from here on, Carmax will probably be the first place I look. read more

A huge waste of time. It took 9 days to transfer a car from Atlanta. Nobody would return my calls/email/text. Vehicle arrived with missing features. CarMax refused to instal missing features but finally agreed to reimburse my if I paid for it. Weeks later, no refund, I'm an idiot. To make this the worse experience ever, they glued a CarMax plate to my bumper. As in it will not come off without taking paint with it. So happy I went with CarMax, I'm sure everyone will know that by the plate I am unable to remove from the bumper. My dislike of these people is of biblical proportion. read more

Pros: -Open on Sunday -You drive out with a SC tag and your registration card - not a temporary tag, so no visit to the DMV needed -Chris was very patient with us, we came in and initially told him what we had in mind, 4+ hours later we left happy, but had chosen something completely different -Price wise I always had the impression that carmax rates were higher than other dealerships. But the car we choose was lower than kelly blue book price (dealership price) and without the haggling. Overall a good experience, I wish we had more time to shop around, but since we didn't have that luxury Carmax had everything we needed to view a variety of cars, have some piece of mind that the car had passed some sort of mechanical check, and drive home in the new car the same day (Sunday!) read more
