Just to preface this review- I have bought and sold 2 cars each with Carmax so I am a return customer and I have dealt with this location and the location in Costa Mesa, CA. The selling process that CarMax has is great, very straightforward and easy. I would always consider them if I ever have another car to sell. I sold my Benz to this location and bought a 2019 BMW 530i at this location. The BMW upon the test drive and initial look of it seemed in good condition, 1 previous owner, low miles etc so we decided to move forward with the purchase. THANK GOD they have a great 90-day/4,000 mile warranty upon purchasing any car from CarMax because come to find out after taking my car to the BMW dealer there was $11,000 worth of issues with this car. The most dangerous one was that there were 2 faulty ENGINE MOUNTS!!!! Now CarMax claims they do an 120 point inspection on every single car prior to putting them on the showroom floor and it obviously was not the truth with this car. There were so many huge issues with this car that it was dangerous to drive upon purchase. But it was sold anyway. I had to take off work to come bring the car back and I had to get a loaner car from them to drive while this car was being serviced. The first car they offered me was dirty in the interior and needed an oil change. I had to point out the obvious "oil change needed" light that came on upon almost driving that car off their lot. They apologized and gave me another better car. They had my BMW FOR 3 WEEKS. Finally got my car back and STILL one error message is coming up on my dashboard and I had to again take time out of my day to take the car BACK up there for them to let me sit there for an hour - to say that they were able to fix it... got in the car - STILL NOT FIXED. Now I have to go BACK TO BMW.... Waiting on that appointment this week. I will say that the service rep Mia and the Manager Jay were and are both very nice and helpful and are doing their best to resolve the situation but CarMax really disappointed me and put me in a position to drive a dangerous car which should've never happened. read more

Rodney, from Carmax, sold us a car and allowed us to drive away KNOWING that 3 tires on the car had plugs in the sidewall And a front end that was so far out of alignment that it ruined 2 new tires that I had put on the front. Rodney put us in a dangerous situation, as we had a blowout on the front tire on the way home. Very irresponsible and I will NEVER buy from Carmax or recommend them, EVER!! read more

We've all seen the commercials but surely selling my old car to these folks isn't as easy as they make it seem. Well it was almost that easy. I bought a new to me car so needed to sell my 10+ year old car within 30 days. Since it was in such good shape, I asked around did anyone I know want to buy it but nope. So I submitted my details to CarMax (and a couple of others), but I was still waiting to hear from a friend. A week goes by and I'm offered even more money then the 1st offer from these folks so off to Kenner I went on a Saturday morning. The only hiccup was that I had an appointment but we blew by that time by 45 minutes. When they did get to me, I was all done with 10-15 minutes and walked out with a check. It was also a little confusing to find the actual parking lot as it's behind a bunch of empty land but I figured it out. I recommend having your car completely empty when you get there. read more

If you buy a car from the Kenner CarMax, you are rolling the dice. Do not trust their advertised "125-point inspection."​I bought a Hyundai Kona 2024 SEL and took it to a highly-rated local mechanic for a post-purchase inspection. Here is what CarMax supposedly missed: ​An active rodent nest packed next to the battery (a huge risk for chewed wiring). ​A dangerously empty engine coolant reservoir. ​A jagged hole broken right out of the top plastic engine cover. ​They either completely skipped the inspection or knowingly sold me a dangerous vehicle. To make matters worse, when I brought the car back to exercise my 10-day return guarantee, the staff stonewalled me. They made me sit in the lobby for over over 4hrs, finally someone came to help me after speaking to over 4+ employees. It was a blatant stall tactic designed to frustrate me into keeping a defective car. Protect yourself and avoid this location. read more

Your basic standard CarMax where you can sell your used car and leave or sell your car and buy another used car. You can get a price and have no obligation to sell so it is a nice no risk and no hassle way to see if you want to sell your used car here. I purchased a Jeep Grand Cherokee from the Austin, TX CarMax location years ago and sold my car to them as part of that and I found the process to be very easy and pleasant. Overall this isn't going to always be the best option but sometimes it might be depending on what you need. read more

Horrible customer service. My sales guy didn't seem to even want to help me when I bought my car. Was completely awkward experience. Had to have the car sent to another location so I could give the commission to someone else because of how bad it was here in Kenner. Fast forward to haveing the car for awhile... I e found out that it's has multiple points of damage that had been fixed poorly and now I'm dealing with the repercussions of that. I WAS GIVEN A CARFAX REPORT SAYING THIS CAR HAD NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR FLOODED!!! Obviously that's false. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! BUY YOUR CAR FROM AN ACTUAL CAR DEALERSHIP!!!! AND to further support my claims, when I traded in my previous car they walked around it, looked at the mileage and nothing more!!!! So that right there tells you what kinds of cars you might be getting. Overall, car purchase was fairly simple. I did wait a couple of hours just to sign everything at the end although the pre-work was done prior to arrival. Car had some imperfections which they offered to take care of but I couldn't get an appointment until outside of the 90 day window (mind you I am 5 days outside of that 90 day period and 4 from when it was dropped off to them). The car needed new tires at purchase but they are not willing to do so as a result of the lapse of time between the service appt offered and the time of purchase. A little disappointed with the lack of resolution and would probably just go through the Lexus dealership and spend a little more. read more

Not the greatest experience I've had with purchasing a car. Car max definitely has a very expedited way of purchasing cars which can be good. However, I found the experience at the actual dealership to be rushed. Nicola called me initially for approval with financial institution and let me mention, she was very patient and courteous. I found it peculiar that my credit could not be ran by multiple lenders and just car max. I also think it's a disadvantage to the customer to have to have credit ran again if that particular car does not work out. Matt with the transaction support team was also very knowledgeable and thorough. Going into the dealership, the sales person rushed me to sign the paperwork when I haven't even seen the car or taken it for a test drive. She seemed unaware on where I was in the process. Also, I purchased a Tesla which is electric. No one at the dealership had knowledge in operations of a Tesla. I fortunately know how to operate or I would have not purchased it from car max. The coup de gras was the Tesla had only 45 percent charge. I asked if I could get it charged and was told it would take 22 hours. My concerns for the team was the car was scheduled for purchase by me well in advance so it should have been charged fully. That is like purchasing a car with a half tank of gas! Last concern, the car was dusty and had areas of scuffs. They did have it cleaned in inside but that should have been taken care of as well. I just feel like they were multiple miscommunications on various parts and needs major improvement. read more

After being approved by the bank and giving all of my documents required, I was told I couldn't get the car because I don't make much. I am a freaking nurse who makes $30/hr. my husband and I applied for a vehicle and handled all paperwork and application details all day with a set offer. We showed up to pick up my husbands dream car and the offer was not saved and we had to re-apply. After 4 hours, our offer went from 15% to 28% with less down...I offered way more down to lower the interest rate and was turned down. ABSOLUTELY THE BIGGEST WASTE OF TIME EVER! Bought a car from them last year around July 2021. It had to be shipped from Cali so there was an understandable wait. It gets delivered and I take delivery of the vehicle. After driving the car around for a few days I notice a rear wheel is bent and the dash and other console lights are far too dim. To the point where you cant see them at night. I blame that more on the Cali Carmax it came from. CarMax specifically is supposed to check the car for issues before and after it is shipped. It's disappointing neither branch would spot what should be obvious issues to experienced mechanics. So then the car went back to them to be fixed. Wait a few months (it is now Dec 2021) and they say it's ready. Get the car, the wheel issue was fixed but the lights weren't. Car goes back. I gave them a pass because it is something you might overlook but I did explicitly describe the problem when I took it in the first time. I get some regular updates from the service employee associated with it. Then I hear nothing for over a month. I see they called my phone twice but never left a message since the last time I spoke with them. Call them back and someone claiming to be the Service Dept Manager answers, says the car is ready and can be picked up whenever. I say I won't be able to pick the car up today (Thurs) or Fri even. I'm told that's fine and the car will be left with the front office. Go to get the car on Sat and it's not there. No employees that are there know what I'm talking about and two go looking through the Service area to find something. They come back and say the car was sent back to the dealership for work on Thurs. All I can do is wait until Monday and try to start calling them. I can't leave a voice message because their inbox has been full for at least the last week. I understand Covid has made getting parts take a lot longer than usual but I feel with all this miscommunication and insecurity of what is actually happening, I can't ever suggest someone use CarMax. read more

My husband and I had a car shipped from NC . Mitch kept us up to date on its arrival and was understanding when this particular car did not work out for us. Ultimately purchased another vehicle with Mitch's help. Even tho there was a computer mix up in appointment times to test drive it, he graciously fit us into his busy schedule. He is very thorough and explained the buying process and got the ball rolling on the finance piece. I bought a car just over a month ago. The salesperson seemed to know close to nothing about the car, the purchasing options, or really how anything worked. Carmax sells itself on diligently inspecting their cars... a month after I bought the car, I noticed rain water was coming into my passenger side floor. I took it to a carwash to use their vacuum to suck out the water. Going through the car wash water started coming in through the light on my sun visor, my sunroof, and water damaged the upholstery on my entire roof. When I called to say they sold me a lemon and they needed to fix it, they asked me why I hadn't noticed the problem earlier. Then I was told it would be a week wait. Save yourself the trouble and do not go to this incompetent location with less than friendly or helpful staff. New Orleans was happy to get a CarMax, but I think customers are better off going ANYWHERE else. read more

The easiest car purchase I have ever experienced. Carmax had the best price in the city for the car I wanted. When I went to look at it I didn't care for the interior color (all back leather) so we looked online and found another one in TX with a 2 color leather interior. They ordered it for me at no cost (and no deposit !) and 10 days later called me to see if i was ready to come look at it. Debra Zeringue was my very helpful sales person. Their office is spacious, brand new, open and comfortable. You can see the airport and the planes landing and taking off. No haggle, you will not be left in a little room while your car salesman goes to talk to his manager. I bought my car online, i thought!! I have bought many new cars as a sixty one year old human. I did all I could do online so all I would have to do would go to finance. 1,2,3, all done. Wrong! I waited and waited, until finally I told my salesperson" forget it I am out". I wasn't trading in my car, so my car was parked outside. Leaving is no problem. I saw a co-worker also waiting, She too was waiting to sign documents. So now I get the keys, photo with the BIG YELLOW RIBBON. All good now heading home. On Airline Blvd, lights on dashboard light up! ENGINE LIGHT! I call salesperson, he says "no worries probably just a fuse or something minor'. Long nightmare short after returning vehicle they said i had to wait to get a check in the mail to return my deposit of 2K. You didn't wait ten to fourteen days to take my cash, so I need my deposit back. This was the worst car buying adventure ever! Then don't forget insurance$$$$. I return the vehicle and Geico still needs to be paid for the eleven days the Engine light was on for the entire 50 miles I drove my car. read more

I have never written a yelp review before but felt it was important to do so in this case. I bought a car about two weeks ago. I was told they would fix some scratches and give me a navigation chip before giving me the car. They did not. Then 8 days into having the car, a notification came on saying there was transmission failure. When I brought it in, I was told to make an appointment with Mercedes. They finally agreed to ship the car to Mercedes themselves. Finally, I got my car back a week later (mind you I have had this car for 2 weeks...) after Carmax sent it to Mercedes and found out the issue was a battery issue. I called about several times to ask the sales associate and the service center people for a navigation chip throughout the process of them fixing the transmission/battery issue. When they finally told me the navigation chip was in, I called and asked for them to install it to make sure it would work. When I picked up my car at 6pm, the service place was closed and the chip had not been installed. The chip said "data malfunction." I spoke to Tina again in the service center and she told me I had to contact the manufacturer myself. I told her she needed to figure out a solution. She placed me on hold without my permission and left me on hold for about 15 minutes (I ended up hanging up). I am shocked by the fact that they did not prepare the car at all. I am also shocked that they then have been extremely rude to me rather than apologetic that the car has had this many issues already. read more

The purchasing experience was very easy. However, I had 3 problems that needed to be looked at the very next day. I could not get a service appointment until 7 days later. Beyond the 7 day return time frame. I thought about returning the vehicle, maybe I should have have. Then they had my car in for service for TEN DAYS! Not because of major problems, but because they messed up! They got my back door lock confused with a similar vehicle so mine did not get repaired. They only realized that when I asked them how they repaired it. Well, they had to order a new part. Unfortunately, I did not happen to notice the grease they got on the back seat when I picked it up, completely my fault. I decided to clean that myself. We saw the car we wanted one the web in Columbia South Carolina. We put a hold on it noting it was needed in New Orleans. We paid to have it shipped to New Orleans. Later we were notified it was here and we went up to see it. In the time it was entire I was able to finish up the work on our totaled car with the insurance company and get a loan. So when we went up we were set to purchase. The car was in good shape and looked good. 8 years younger and 20,000 less miles that the totaled car but the same brand and model. Minor problems we are waiting to be fixed. Helpful staff. Knowledgeable staff. Friendly staff. We are happy! read more

OK, I confess. I was suspicious. I had a car I wanted to sell, no trade in, just sell and walk away with a check. I filled out the CarMax online offer form. That took 10 minutes and though it was good for one week, I went the next day to CarMax to have my details verified. I half believed that there'd be a "bait and switch", that some eagle eyed inspector would find something I had overlooked or that there'd be a hard sell. Boy was I wrong. From the moment I entered the store in Kenner, Louisiana, until the moment I walked out with a check, it took 1 hr 20 minutes. And the check was for exactly what I'd been quoteed online. Everybody was lovely, friendly and Ms. Diborah in the service department even ordered me a car to take me home. I loved my car. I sold it kicking and screaming and only because I was moving somewhere where I couldn't take my car with me. I never thought it'd be this easy though. But I'm a believer now. And for the record...I'm a real customer, and this is a real review where I didn't get any "promotional consideration" for the things I've just said. Highly disappointed with the service department. Buying the vehicle went smooth but they didn't have the spare key. Said it would be in that same week. It's been over 1 month and we are still hearing "oh we'll put the order in for the key." They have also had my car for 2 weeks now and just informed me they are still waiting on the parts to come in. What was the point of having my vehicle before you even ordered the parts? Every time we call they extend how long they are keeping our car. This has been a huge inconvenience to me. read more

Wish I could give NO stars I just bought a car from them literally a Little over a month ago and they sold it to me with the power fluid line broken the co2 Sensor broken everything on the inside was hot glued or super glued back on like the cup holders the pice that moves your seat up. The power fluid line is so important it's what moves ur steering wheel I was driving and it wouldn't move left or right it was just stuck. I could have been in a car accident. anyways 2 weeks later my cars still been in the service center getting fixed they emailed me today saying my car was done and I could pick it up when I got there the customer service provider told me that the car would need to stay at car max because the man who was working on it didn't realize that there was an oil leak until he got back from his lunch and already got the customer service provider to send me an email saying everything was fixed. I'm super unhappy because they say they give you all the facts but how do u not know u just sold someone a car that could stop moving in the middle of her driving it. read more
