The place is squeaky clean and everyone we encountered was friendly. We dealt with Chris S. and he made the process fast and easy. After a quick text drive, he entered some photos into the database and then did the paperwork. We did have to run home for something that we forgot, but all in all if you don't count that, the process was under an hour start to finish. They took my refund from the DMV for over payment on Tax, Tag and Title Transfer. Carmax over estimated those charges and put them in the loan amount. The person at the DMV said this refund of $273.80 belongs to you but the check has to be sent to Carmax because that name is on the check. You must contact them because they will keep your money if you don't. I have been trying to get them to give me the money for seven months. Finally they said yes the money is mine and would have been sent to my credit union. I called the credit union and they told me no refund was sent to them. I have been told that this is just another way for the dealership to make money. read more

A bunch of 12 year old employees walking around aimlessly. Made me wait 1 hr past my appointment that they set. Low balled my trade in. Meanwhile their online no haggle price for same make model milage was 5x their offer. The car I was interested in smelled like something died in it and they poured a bottle of perfume to cover it up. I bought my Mdx on Monday and notice the tires has slits and holes in the two front tires. They change the back ones. I called carmax and talk to Spenser about it and he replied saying it meets the standard. They let me leave the dealership like that. This is a car accident if I don't fix the tires. Terrible experience. The car was scratched from the delivery, as Carmax agreed, but it was going to be my problem to deal with after sale. The steering was loose during my test drive making one wonder if anyone had "checked" the vehicle upon delivery as they claim is always done. And the list of complaints goes on and on. They deliberately wasted my time, which also cost me a half of a day of driving and the expense of a hotel room. What is the purpose of putting a car on "Hold" if you're going to sell the car out from under them? It would have been no different than if I had just made an appointment by itself and not placed the car on hold. Worse yet, you sell the car and don't notify me, so wasting my time even more! I did not expect deceptive business practices by CarMax, but seems they are no different than the worst of the car lots. No apologies, nothing. My car enthusiast friends agree this is wrong on every level. Deceptive "Hold" should be removed from the website entirely or they should contact the person who held the car and give them first right of refusal or acceptance. DO NOT sell the car out from under them without talking to them FIRST. You lost many customers today. Can't believe I got suckered into your schemes. On September 12 of this year I paid to have a car shipped from South Carolina to the CarMax in Mobile. They were supposed to have done a complete inspection on this vehicle prior to it being sold. It has been a complete nightmare dealing with Carmax in Mobile I have every intention of signing off on this vehicle that I have not had not even for a month. This was the worst experience I have had with Carmax being a repeat customer. I have been waiting to get a review or survey of anything, I haven't so here's my public review. I had been looking and researching for at least a month. When I finally found the car that suited me, I went into the Mobile location to do a test drive. Upon arrival to an empty store, I was greeted and told that there would be at least an hour wait before someone could assist me. I work from home and was on a time limit so I left and continued my research from home. I found a car that I paid for to be shipped from Naples, Florida. I called the store (Nov. 11th) and requested the car be shipped to the Mobile location. Again, I could not receive adequate help and had to speak to the call center to get the car ordered and shipped. The call center rep went over the details of shipping but not features. I was told the the car would be ready between Nov. 15-22. I paid for the shipping and waited to get updates and notifications. I received only 1 notification that following day once the car was shipped. I waited a few days and called to check status (Nov 16) and was told by someone in the Mobile office that they were waiting on the title and the car was going through inspection. I assumed that she or even anyone from the office would at least reach out to the Naples store to check if it had been sent but no one checked. Also, by this time all notifications had stopped. I have a relative that works at another location so I called (Nov 18th) to see if it was any way they would be able to check on what was going on with the transfer. Within 5 minutes of speaking to them, I finally received a call and an update on my transfer. I was told that the title had not been received and that they were overnighting it and would text me (without confirming my number) the tracking details. Needless to say, I never received any tracking notifications until I called the call center once again to check why I was not receiving anything anymore. I called in again on Monday and still no title. The call center found that the texts were going to the wrong number! She deleted the number that was on file and made sure I was receiving texts again. I finally received some communication on Tuesday (Nov 21st) stating that the title would be in and asking what time would I like to come in. I requested a home delivery due to my work schedule and that was out of the question. I requested a Lyft and was denied that also. Appointment was set, finally made it to the car and the features that were listed on the site were inaccurate. I purchased the car because I had no way to get back home after paying to get there, taking time away from my job, and paying for a car to be shipped with features that I thought I was getting. To add insult to injury, driving home, the tire light came on, after said inspection, and I was told that I just needed to add air in my tires or bring the car back for them to add air when I assumed that was done during inspection! I received a congratulatory email on my purchase though. Which was also sent to someone else's email! Which is clearly a breach of privacy. This experience has had me contemplating my future dealings with Carmax and it took a while to do this because I wanted to handle it personally, but since my privacy has been breached I decided to do this publicly. I was also not told about the license plate fee. I was specifically instructed to bring in the envelope within 20 days of purchase and they would input my info and I would receive my plate. I had no idea of the fees that I would incur. Most disappointing experience ever. read more

TERRIBLE service. I bought a car I had transferred. The day before it arrived they still had no information as to when it would arrive. The sales person lied and said that she could not remove the CarMax decal. I specifically asked the transferring dealer if there was anything noticeably wrong with the car. They lied. I took it back the next day for service for replacement of a battery, repair of the cruise control, and repair of a rattle in the passenger seat. I let the damaged wheel that was quite noticeable go. I tried to call five times at multiple numbers to see if my car was ready when it was supposed to be and only got put on hold for more than ten minutes each time or sent to voicemail or got no answer at all. I finally drove to the store to get my car not knowing if it was ready or not. This was a distance of 25 miles. I am not happy at all. read more

After entering all of my car's information online, I received the "good for 7 days" tentative offer. I took my car to CarMax today and was offered $5000 less than my online offer from 6 days ago! The sales person said that when she drove it, the engine made a noise! I don't know how they get away with this bait and switch, I guess just taking advantage of people who need or want to sell their cars quickly. I took my car to a legitimate dealership and they gave me very close to the CarMax bogus offer. I will never deal with CarMax again and I would certainly discourage anyone I know from doing so. Had my car ready for me to look at and test drive for my appt. it took a bit longer than I expected to do all the paperwork for the actual sale but other than that I don't have any real complaints. Showroom was clean. Fresh coffee available while you wait for whatever service you are there for. Clean restrooms, well stocked vending machine. Once you buy the car the customer service stops. They haven't given an update on my vehicle they've had for three weeks. When I went over their heads the corporate office said my transmission needed replacing/rebuilding and it would be sent to a local dealership for repairs. None of the local dealerships have or have seen my car. so I'm three weeks in without a car, my job is ready to fire me, and Carmax won't answer the phones so I can request a rental.
