The current vehicle I bought had several problems that miraculously appeared just 9 days after the 30 day warranty expired. naturally carmax told me to take a hike, to bad, so sad. In my humble opinion these problems should have been caught by carmax before the vehicle was placed for sale. My mechanic agrees. I would steer clear of this shop if they cannot do due diligence when taking in a car for sale. don't get me wrong, the sales staff was very helpful and did a wonderful job, but 5 grand later I am seeing red and question the shops ability to accurately check a vehicle they have taken in before putting it up for sale. read more

When i bought my 2014 jeep, it was sent from janesville branch up to waukesha WI. Paul in Janesville sent me up with all this talk about what needed fixing, cost etc... when i bought the vehicle nothing was repaired, they didnt bring price down and then the nigjtmare really began. The jeep kept making sounds, then was locking me in vehicle, excellerating on its own, brakes stopped functioning. I took it back so many times only to be treated poorly by service dept. Mary. The electrical system was so bad my grandson and i had several close calls. 3 times locked in, always telling me to start engine push button and still wouldn't start, kept us locked in, sounding the alarm.. the transmission would kick down into a low gear on hwy. They always had an excuse to blame me until a flatbed had to come to my and my grandsons rescue. It was without a doubt the worst transaction in buying a car i ever had!!! I took the vehicle back for the LAST time after about 1-2 months dealing with Carmax"s Poor service selling me a flood vehicle...They refunded my money although never paid for my terror, my time or severe inconvenience. . My husband and I were warmly greeted as we walked in and they were able to easily pull up that we had an appointment. We worked with Kamryn (I think that's how his name was spelled) for the sale and he did a fantastic job. He was super friendly, navigated us through the paperwork with ease, and provided excellent customer service, down to even grabbing my special license plates so I could have them on my next vehicle. We had previously gotten an online quote for the vehicle from CarMax and they came back with an identical offer in person, which ended up being easily the best offer we had by nearly $2k. 4 solid stars for CarMax. I wound up selling my last vehicle to CarMax last week. I have to say I was very pleased with the entire transaction from start to finish. Not only did they give me ABOVE KBB value (not something that would happen if I traded it in to a dealership) but they were super nice as well. I got the check literally the same day, and they also gave me a ride back to my house. I worked with Shauna and Garth and both provided excellent service. Overall I had a positive experience and will keep them in mind for my next car. The only downside was the building was super big and echo-y, so it was pretty tough to hear at times. A member of the Carmax team met me when I walked in. They asked if I had an appointment, which is I did not. But, that was not a problem. They entered my info in and started the process. Although they told me it would take 30 min, it was only 5 min until they began to process the assessment of the car. 15 minutes later, I was reviewing there offer. It was right in alignment with the Kelly Blue Book evaluation. I accepted the over and moved on to the final step. They processed all the documents in minutes. Five stars when Eric was there. If I could give the service center zero stars now, I would. I went in during the last month of my extended warranty for some repairs (broken A/C and passenger airbag light on) and to get my brakes replaced because I was about to go on a cross-country road trip through mountains. They said they'd have it done in a day but kept my car for over a week doing zero repairs, said they couldn't figure out why my A/C wasn't working, until I demanded that I needed it the next morning. I was going to take my car back with zero repairs done but I was like "yeah the a/c and airbag light are warranty repairs, but I am a paying customer and I want you to fix my brakes; why won't you fix my brakes and take my money?!" Suddenly they were able to fix my brakes and the A/C that night and I picked it in the morning when my road trip began. A few months prior I had an issue with my car's alternator and it broke down in the middle of the highway on the way to CarMax's service center; they "fixed it" in about a week by replacing the capacitor (?) but said there was nothing wrong with the alternator. Flash forward to now: I'm driving through Wyoming and the alternator problem happens again, and I break down in the middle of nowhere. An epic 24-hour service station towed the car and had me back on the road in less than 12 hours and indeed replaced the alternator. They said they could tell the alternator had been worked on and it looked new, but it wasn't put back together correctly and some parts were not soldered -- that's why it busted and I needed a new one. After being unemployed for several months last year and taking a job at a significant pay cut from my old one I found myself in a bad situation...a credit score that took a drop of a good bowling game and a lease on a car that was expiring. I knew a new car was not going to be in the works for me, and I also knew that buying my car out of the lease arrangement wasn't going to work either. I'm known as a bit of an automobile aficionado among my friends and am frequently consulted regarding vehicles by my friends. When people have been looking for used cars, I usually point them in CarMax's direction if for no other reason than the "no haggle" atmosphere, and the ability to find a car you want from an extended inventory. After doing some research, I thought I had found a few vehicles I liked and decided to prequalify for a loan on one that particularly interested me, but wasn't at my local store. It was, however, a free transfer. Not a problem, in 15 minutes or so I had a call from a sales person and we discussed everything. He was very specific in discussing whether or not I wanted to get my financing approved and I said yes. Car took a few days to be delivered and I test drove it. Wasn't 100% sure, and had a similar vehicle, but hatchback version, also being transferred. Salesperson was nice enough to hold and we set up the appointment for about a week out to drive both with my wife with me. Well that next weekend, I'm showing my wife what I drove and she says rather flippantly "Oh those look like everything else on the road." Well, challenge accepted! I go to the local inventory and what's the first thing I see? A Nissan Cube. In my price range. Started looking at it, and it was actually really well-optioned. In fact, it was only "SL" model under 100,000 miles within 250 miles of where we lived from any dealer. CarMax being who they were, I clicked on the "Hold for me" button and set up a test drive for the same time we were going to drive the other vehicles. The salespeople we dealt with were very kind in taking their time with us and letting us go very completely though each vehicle we drove. We probably spent 4-5 hours there. Without going into a lot of specifics, we wound up buying the Cube, with an extended warranty. My only complaint about the process was that there was difficulty taking the car home the evening we bought because of an issue with the license plate bracket. Some of that is on us for staying so late, and the service crew being gone. Did I pay more than I would've at another dealer for my car? Yes. Post script: I took my vehicle to be looked at by a friend who was a mechanic, and his assessment was that it is a peach; everything he would be concerned about would be good. I also had another colleague who is a car salesman tell me, "When you buy a car from CarMax, you may not get a good price, but you won't get a bad car." read more

I test drove all the cars that interested me and got a car that I never imagined I would be able to get. I had looked at a similar car at a dealership for quite a bit more money. Paid $150 to have it shipped to CarMax in Milwaukee and 10 days later I'm driving my new 2015 Genesis. March 9, 2018 my daughter bought a car from Carmax in Waukesha Wisconsin 2012 Hyundai Veloster.right away there were issues check engine light steering sunroof oil they took the car to service it for four days and said the only issue was the Cadillac converter which took them supposedly four days to fix. Drove the car home had more issues lost 3 quarts of oil in one day took the car back once again the service department kept her car for 26days only to say they were fixing the sunroof and the radio and they completely forgot about working on the oil issue until the last four days. They then told us we need to have the car and drive it for 500 miles bring it into them and they will check to see how the Oil is brought it in there and they said they're not sure what's going on cause there is no oil. Now they have to tear the car apart with Frustration we left and took the car with us.GM called us and said we are so sorry about this we will get her into a newer car 2nd car we got May 5th it was a 2015 Hyundai Elantra right away I noticed issues the coolant went from full to empty in 1 day the breaks had so much lube on them to quiet them down steering was way off and the driver's seat wouldn't stay in place when she would break it would rock out of place. When she tried to adjust it her hand was covered in grease.. So again in the first few days nothing but issues. Now here comes the best part of it all the service department from day 1 lies to us saying they didn't notice all of the issues but when we asked for a detailed report of the first vehicle the report was so long it took hours to go through. Also they sold us a car that had recalls which they didn't disclose until we brought it up to them and they took upon themselves to fix instead of sending it to the manufacturer. The GM in Waukesha apologized to us several times saying this never should've happened the first time the second time he didn't say much besides lies telling us she will get the car that she wants she only needs more money. Then they go on to tell us she never should've been financed through them because she is self-employed threw a delivery company. They knew from the beginning what her job was so any car she gets now she cannot have an extended warranty. Are you serious? We have been on the phone with Carmax Headquarters for the last month and they are leaving messages for the manager who won't reply to them or when he did reply stating he talked with my daughter and they got the 3rd car and it's being shipped. I have all the phone records not one call from Randy the GM only a text message from another sales person. The 3rd car she has told them she doesn't want it's been in a car accident and was a rental car for 2 previous places. Also they told us if it was a rental car they would have to tell us by law. Nope the Elantra was a rental car and it had several issues. So now onto the FACTS Carmax got sued for not reporting recalls. My daughter has lost out of over 3 months of work so far which is around $8000.00 you can call whoever you want at headquarters the farthest you will get is customer relations which they are very nice but have no power to do anything but call the local dealership and try to talk with them. Last but not least I can provide paperwork of all repairs recalls that they tried to cover up. Voicemails from service department with them back tracking there lies. And texts from Carmax workers. You may ask why I'm not getting a attorney and having this handled quickly well here's the answer. Quickly means quietly which means I can't warn others to stay clear of Carmax. While the review isn't indicative of the team at Car Max in Waukesha, it is a call for better procedures & processes. I was recently car hunting for my 17 year old and his first car. We found a vehicle of his liking therefore I paid the transfer fee for said vehicle. It arrived and we test drove it and I wanted to purchase it. There were three minor service things I asked to be looked into while I began the financing with my banking institution.The rep Devante informed me it would take a couple of days, which was fine while I waited for my check for purchase. After a few days I had check in hand, I checked on the work needing to be done and was told the vehicle was sold!!! Imagine my disappointment and disbelief. I spoken with a rep name Ambur along with a manager Cindy ( I think it was her name). They both apologized and said I would be refunded my transfer fee and they would cover the cost for any vehicle from anywhere at no cost to me. This was really commendable but with the car market today being what it is there hasnt been much to choose from. Bad experience dealing with a process that broke down but the courtesy of trying to make me happy was welcomed. But still NO car! Yet! read more

Overall Car Max experience was as advertised...low stress and straightforward. Customer service was excellent and very responsive. I was disappointed with the delivery of the vehicle. I had to point out the scratches to buff out rather than having them pointed out to me showing they were fixed in advance of my arrival. Also, my mechanic identified a couple of issues that should have been caught in multipoint inspection. Everything was resolved to my satisfaction including providing loaner vehicle. Never have I ever had so many issues with a car as I've had with the Sonic I bought from Carmax. I have took the car in at least five times for engine issues in less than a year of owning it and am currently waiting on the roadside for carmax roadside assistance which I paid for and will only cover up to $100. When I went to speak with the manager of the Carmax service department the last time my car had engine issues, her response to my concerns with having less than 40,000 miles and so many problems already was that the car was "manmade" and what could she do about it. It makes me question the quality of cars Carmax sells, and in the end even if I try to sell I am out of money anyway. read more

The CarMax team was great, I had a car transferred from 100 miles away at no cost, the sales person was very clear that I was not obligated to purchase it despite the free transfer. It took only 3 days to have the car onsite and ready for a test drive. After test driving I decided to purchase and was never pressured to do so. The sales person explained warranty options and I selected one that I felt was a great deal despite being anti-warranty in general. In this case, I was able to add 60K+ miles of warranty to a vehicle that was past the factory warranty and still paid less than slightly newer similar cars at other dealers. The no-haggle pricing alone is worth checking out CarMax as you will save so much time not dealing the "Manager" approval on pricing. read more

I sold my car here, because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell it myself. The sales guy was super friendly and didn't push at all when I told him that I wasn't interested in shopping for a car, just selling (I was already buying from a family member). The whole operation is very smooth - they take your car for a test drive, ask you a few questions about it, and then all the info comes to the computer and they give you their offer. Offer is good for 7 days; I was waiting for my new car to become available, but I got the same offer (which was pretty much exactly what Kelly's Blue Book estimated for me) when I brought it back ready to sell. Selling it was a snap; a few pieces of paperwork, and then you leave in about 20 minutes without your car but with a check. This was definitely the hassle-free car selling experience that I was looking for, and though I hopefully won't need to change cars for a good long while, I'll come back here again when I do. read more

We sold our truck here last night. My son had his truck appraised here in the afternoon yesterday and they offered him $4000, which was good for 7 days. His salesperson, Andy, was really chill and laid back but also knowledgeable and he kept us "entertained" while the appraisal was taking place. We then went to buy his new car at Russ Darrow Mazda Greenfield and they offered him $2500 for the truck trade-in. He turned them down and after purchasing his new Mazda 6 we drove the truck right back to CarMax and sold it for the $4000 offer. They were very pleasant and handled the paperwork quickly and efficiently and we walked away with a check for $4000 in about 20 minutes. I will definitely get my car appraised here in the future and will consider buying a car here as well. read more

Never again. Worst management of any CarMax I have seen and I have bought many cars at the 3 Milwaukee area stores. Store was unprepared on a Saturday with not enough staff, car I purchased was delivered with a dead battery. Not one apology from management until I had to walk around to seek help... poor sales guys was left alone to find a solution by looking in the lot for a battery out of another car. In the beginning our service was great..Heman did an excellent job helping us through our loan process and finding a car, it went fairly quick. After a few days, we had to bring the car back for issues with the tire, within a few days after that...we had to bring the car back in again to have the cup holder fixed...not a big deal, but from the time we had bought the car we were without it for 7 days in a two week period. After mentioning to the service manager that we were thinking about trading our newly purchased car in for the actual rental that I was driving...great, but the "Floor manager" called me and within a two minute period, he made me aware that the way THEY did the loan was wrong, but made me feel as if my husband and I had done something illegal...which was a horrible feeling, considering we only wanted to buy a new car, an upgrade from the one we had just purchased. I would like to say that I would recommend this location, but as a result of the poor service from the FLOOR manager, we will never go back there...and will also discourage others to go there. All it would have taken, was proper customer service from this one floor manager, and not make the accusations that he did....we would have returned..but not now or ever again. read more

I've bought cars from a few different dealerships and this place is by far the best. I worked with Larry at the Waukesha location on a recent purchase. From the very beginning he was easy going, funny, and didn't pressure me at all. I had shopped some other dealerships and after driving one vehicle I got the "so if we can make the numbers work how about we do this today". Larry just went along, answered my questions, and took me through the process with great explanations along the way. A few weeks after my purchase I was having an issue with a slow leak in one of the tires. I took the vehicle in and worked with Dave in service. Dave and Larry were true to their word when they told me everything would be covered under the 30 day warranty. They attempted to fix the problem, but a few days later (now outside of the 30 day warranty) I was still having the same issue. I brought the vehicle back and Carmax gave me a free loaner while they ordered a brand new set of wheels for the vehicle. (The slow leak was due to corrosion and the wheel could not be saved). I now have a great vehicle with a brand new set of rims. I didn't pay a single penny for the loaner vehicle, both times they repaired the vehicle, or the new rims they put on the vehicle. Not once did they attempt to make me pay or weasel out of their warranty. The service manager, I believe her name is Lori, was also great. Will definitely buy another vehicle from this location and will highly recommend to anyone looking for a used vehicle. If you look at the banners hanging in their showroom you will see that Carmax, as a company, has increased their sales year over year for I believe almost 8 or 9 years.
