To find if they are open or not is a crap shoot. Even when posted times are on the door, does not mean anyone is around.

I sent in 2 pairs of cuticle scissors to be sharpened 6 months ago and I have not received them back yet. I've called and left messages many many times and no one responds to me. I've been hitting up Sanfords store for years now!!! Usually stop in around October to by myself a b-day present. His inventory is normally REALLY good for what I'm looking for. If he doesn't have it, he can source for you! Don't go into that area often as parking is a little challenging. But parking in a 15 min spot, gives me time to get my tac knife fix. Called today and Sanford answered, I was hoping they wouldn't give me hard time or run around since I wasn't calling about a sale or anything and they're based in Carmel, Boy was I wrong! I asked a few questions regarding legal issues on a knife, and he took so much time to explain to me what makes something legal and not legal from his expertise. He was very knowledgable about the questions I asked and wasn't making me feel rushed or anything to hang up since I wasn't even a sale for him. He even took time to research the knife I was even talking about while on the phone so he had a better understanding of my situation. I appreciate Sanford so much for taking time out of his busy day to talk to me and let me know the facts and his personal opinions which I highly appreciate. If you have ANY questions regarding knives I HIGHLY recommend calling them and speaking to Sanford. Don't waste your time with other shops or franchises who don't really know much other than, yeah that's a folding knife and this one is a fixed blade knife and doesn't know the difference between 420HC and S30V steel. Absolutely a snobbish retailer. We went in looking to purchase some high end knives, but he was to concerned with a customer, to even acknowledge us. We stood and waited for at least 10-15 minutes and he never even looked at us or said one word to us. He saw us come through his front Dutch door, but that ended the contact. We were respectful not to interrupt his service with the other patron. We looked at the knives we were interested in, for several minutes, but soon realized he wasn't interested in serving us. I'm 73 years old and was there with my 44 year old son, ready to purchase several hundred dollars of his product, for Christmas. We had just had a wonderful lunch downtown and doing our holiday shopping. Don't patronize this shop, as he is very disrespectful to his customers, making you feel undervalued! read more

I had heard wonderful things about the knives and customer service, I drove an hour just to see what they had in store, I got there at 11:40 and it was closed, I re checked the online hours and it said it was open and closed at 5, big waste of time and won't be coming back, even stayed around the area for 20 minutes to see if they would come back, they didn't, ruined my day. read more

Wonderful store, knowledgeable staff and great customer service. We had 8 of our Henkals knives and a Japanese knife sharpened, took about 45 minutes to finish them all. Our knives are now super sharp, even better then when we first purchased them. It was also a bargain to sharpen too, $4 for each knife. I am trying to like this store but I get really annoyed that every time I come here they are closed. They can't be bothered to post their store hours on the door, nor can they be bothered to include them on their answering machine message. The hours are not posted on the web site either. Come on people, don't be such flakes. Having said that, they DO have an amazing selection. Just walking past the front window will make you drool at all the amazing damascus folders. They have some pretty nice stuff. I'm rather surprised they haven't had a smash-and-grab... they're never open and they leave several thousand dollars worth of knives on display. That's just asking for trouble. The older gentleman who works there is really cool. He gave me the "industry discount" when I bought some Messermeister knives for work, (I had a food-service job at the time.) The store has a nice location, a nice selection and the owners are knowledgeable. I just wish they'd have regular hours. It seems like they sort of show up when they feel like it. read more

Delightful little store full of all kinds of cutlery from swords to paring knives. I'm kind of a hobbyist-cook who appreciates good kitchen tools, so this little shop was like a candy store for me. UPDATE: Upon my visit this week the store has been sold to a new owner. They renovated, looks beautiful inside, sadly the prices seem to have gone up. The selection was barren, but they are ordering new stock. Again it seems like all their prices will be MSRP+tax which is a deal breaker when the internet price is 40% cheaper. I am sure the argument is the high price of rent/employees/etc. However I would buy a knife for a decent price, but instead I didn't buy anything. There is nothing that prevents a store from selling online, the barrier to entry should be lower as they already retain stock. Yes, there are some established online sites, but take beautiful photos, offer free sharpening if the knife ever returns to Carmel, offer engraving, you have so many value adding options. -----Sadly, the below no longer applies----- One of the nicest small cutlery shops I have been to in my day. They carry everything from chef's knives, pocket knives to flashlights. I had a great conversation with the co-owner (I believe) showing me the merits of the Spyderco Tri-Angle sharpener. Great selection of Swiss Army Knives and accessories. I WISH they offered custom engraving like "Carmel, CA" on the smaller "classic" Swiss Army Knives. Prices are decent, above all just a fun destination. I will be in Carmel this weekend, so I am looking forward to dropping in and saying hi. read more

Went in today to get my knives sharpened today (Global) the owner and his father were gracious and friendly. I dropped them off and in 30 minutes they were done and sharper than the factory edge!
