I HIGHLY recommend Paula as an agent, whether you're taking a quick jaunt to San Diego, carousing in Napa for a long weekend or planning a cruise around Antarctica. She has also planned some amazing larger group trips for me to the UK, Kenya and Tanzania, and Egypt and Jordan that I know would have been an utter disaster had I attempted to plan myself. DJ is one of the best travel agents I've ever worked with. My boyfriend and I went on a 7 day cruise to Mexico and she made it possible for our trip to be amazing. We have to use Monterey Travel through my place of business to book airline tickets. They booked our tickets about 8 months in advance and, trusting Monterey Travel to book the best seats on the four flights we took for us, we didn't check. Well guess what? Every flight we were booked in the last seats in the plane. I'm talking last row, next to the restroom. Why? Why would a travel agent do that to people? Normally I try to only leave positive reviews, but I was SO disappointed today. I'm going to assume the women I spoke with at the desk was having a bad day and just didn't want to help anyone at the time and I'm giving it one star b/c I got nothing out of the 10 min I spent in the office. Not a recommendation and no information on what they could or could not even do for me. They got such great reviews, I'm so disappointed. I am military and rarely know my schedule very far in advance. I am in a job now where I can plan a bit, but maybe not a more than 6 or 7 months out. Normally, I plan my own trips b/c I know exactly where I want to go and what I want to do. I got very excited b/c I have a good amount of time over the holidays to plan a little more adventurous of a trip...so...I walked into the travel agency knowing generally where I would like to go and what I would like to do hoping for some help in where the best place would be and what all I could do there...you know, trip planning! I walked in and was greeted (I use this term loosely, b/c she looked questioningly at me, no good morning how can I help you...) and I said I had never used a travel agent before and would like to know how it works...EVERY SINGLE question I had or that she asked me about where I would want to go was met with a negative response in a negative tone on why it would not work and most of them pretty bogus, like 10 days not being enough time to travel somewhere (when I didn't even really have a particular destination yet), why possibly travelling solo was going to be upcharged (I said possibly and doesn't have any idea what my budget is...I can afford it trust me!), why plane tickets (again no particular destination yet), would be hard to come by. I was not dressed like a vagabond and I was polite this whole time while not understanding why she clearly did not want my business. It got to the point where she was asked if I even had a passport (in a tone of voice suggesting this would be her way to finally have a reason not to help me), yes I do....Is it going to expire (same tone)...OMG, NO. I was hoping to use them quite a bit to plan some cool adventures during my time over the next couple years...lost good business here all b/c I didn't know EXACTLY where I wanted to go and when especially since really I went in there today just to see how working with a travel agent works and not necessarily to walk out with a trip planned yet, maybe that was the problem. So if you have your trip already planned...maybe they will work with you (though you'd probably save money booking things yourself) I came in excited and left pretty upset. Beware of this group. They charged my credit card without authorization, double booked an air ticket without permission. They cancelled a hotel reservation in London as I arrived there, leaving me without a place to stay. No. If you value your money and travel time, avoid this group like poison. I found them worse than useless, they are an active danger. read more
