I ordered delivery. Ordered fried ravioli but got boiled. Also the pizza was raw (dough not cooked through). We popped it in the oven when we realized the issue. By this point, I had already paid the delivery charge and the delivery tip (which was paid using the Yelp app at the time of order). Carmela's is usually a great option for pizza. I never do reviews but I felt I needed to do this for this place. We have been wanting to try it for a long time because, well, brick oven pizza and wine! We almost didn't come because of some of the reviews. The pizzas we tried were UNBELIEVABLY good. The crust on the Carmela's works was best ever, and the flavors of the Grandma Anabella's, wow. Only mild criticism is that for a wine bar, they didn't have the best knowledge of the wines on the menu. Regardless, we all ended up with a delicious glass of vino. Nothing good to say, first of all, the pizza crust was not close to Being done, very wet and soggy. I could fold it in half like a piece of wonder bread. The cheese wasn't melted, was like chewing on rubber bands. Had to cook our pizza in the oven again for 15 minutes. Huge volcanic bubbles, and the sausage for $5 extra shaved razor thin. Oh, and hey! You only take cash and check!?!? Let's get up to speed on the 21st century and take credit cards. Your garlic knots were flavorless, the worst non existent "garlic" knots we have ever had. Awful! That describes my last visit to Carmelas Brick Oven Pizza. Just two years ago this was a great pizza place. Now it is hit or miss. This last time the pizza was ordered with extra pepperoni and when it came to the table there was just a skimpy amount on it. Asked for it to be cooked well and it came out underdone. Two of my friends had entrees and they were tasteless and the chicken was like rubber. After dinner we went into the wine bar and had a couple of drinks. Really hard to make a mistake pouring from a wine bottle. Service was also lacking as the server never offered to make anything right. They brought out the soup , appetizers, and entrees all at about the same time . This only left me with the soup being hot and the rest too cold . I hate to repeat but Carmela's pizza IS the best pizza in town and I wish there were more of them. The place always seem busy and packed with customers and there is a cute, fluffy black cat that is almost always sitting outside on the couch before you enter the restaurant. The staff are really friendly and sometimes get the order mixed up but I'm pretty forgiving since I was there and have seen how fast-paced the place is. I have never sat in to dine at the restaurant but I have been there to pick-up food. Always call in so you don't wait there for the food. Also, I wish they had a larger and more spacious parking lot because it always seems like I'm about to hit somebody's car when I'm going to park or leave. Thin pizza is what I enjoy. Crispy crust and base of pizza. It always seems very fresh (like just been pulled out of the oven) when I take a bite out of a slice. I can't think of anything bad to say about it but if you like pizza and you haven't tried Carmela's, you've got to try it right now! After I have tried Carmela's pizza, I will never go back to trying pizza from Pizza Hut, Domino's, Little Cesar and all other pizza joints. My husband and I had heard wonderful things about Carmela's and decided me we needed to try it out for ourselves. Along with our neighbors, we went on a Friday evening. We ordered the garlic knots and 2 of their signature Grandma (square) pizzas. One pizza had lots of meats and veggies and the other spinich, mushrooms and olives. Back again this year 2/2015. We were seated in the pizza side, our first mistake the wine bar section is much nicer, we did make reservation so there was not a wait. I ordered my childhood favorite spaghetti and meatballs and a ceasar salad. My husband ordered the mussels. His was wonderful, he got the appetizer which came without pasta so he had a small mountain of mussels. My pasta sauce seemed like a can of tomato sauce dumped over meatballs that were mediocre at best. I promised myself I wouldn't come back but everyone else like it so I guess, I'll just have to keep searching for the right menu item The service on the other hand has never been good and hasn't gotten any better. This restaurant was referred to me by a friend. I am a huge fan of authentic Italian food. So upon entering the restaurant, I knew I was in the right place. All the faces of the main staff of employees are also adorning the walls in childhood pictures. There is a great energy, amazing smell, the things you would like to and expect to see in a good Italian food restaurant. The service was impeccable, the timing was right on. At initial glance of the menu, the prices were a bit high, but after tasting the food and enjoying the service, it was well worth the money I spent. I have found my new pizza place. Grandma crust everything! It's square, thin and crispy with the perfect balance of cheese and sauce. Reheats great too because you will have take away. Where there are toppings the pie is good. Wine is way overpriced. Planned on going here to relax with some vino and pie. Got the pie, skipped the vino which was seriously overpriced - enough said. The pizza's are good sized but if your the type who doesn't like to eat the crust then you'll have 1/2 the pizza not eaten. We had a large group of people so there were two traditional style pizzas and one Sicilian. All of them had tons of crust. The upside was there was plenty to hold onto with all that topping-free dough. I don't want to beat this death but the place could be called "Crustmela's", or since the crust was really not that tasty maybe just "Doughmela's". But again, where the pizza was appropriately topped it was good. Fresh ingredients including fresh mozzarella. The regular cheese pizza we ordered was loaded with cheese but it didn't have any flavor and I can't believe I'm saying this either, but way too much cheese.
