If you like your meals saucy like I do you'll love this. Last night I wanted to have the Chicken Marsala again but there are too many other delicious looking options so I went for the Italian Bolognese and boy it did not disappoint! It is on the sweeter side which our server let me know and I like that, just know that. Very saucy with lots of meat. I can't wait to get at my leftovers! We've eaten at Carmine's many times and it's always been a good experience. We have a family member with celiac disease so our choices of truly safe, gluten-free dining out together are marginal. Carmine's does a great job with accommodating this need with flavorful food and no issue of any kitchen cross-contamination. (Thank you!) My own favorite thing on the menu is the Mediterranean flatbread (with extra feta). Perfection!! My husband gets the Italian bolognese and says it's "off the hook!" If you can get Carter for your server, he's terrific. One opportunity for improvement for Carmine would be the hard wooden chairs. (They become painful before our meals are finished.) I've passed the Bloomington location countless times, but this was my first time here. Heard great things about the food. I'm here to do the same. The food was great and was served in a reasonable amount of time on a Friday night. I tried the chicken sandwich. One of the better ones I've had. Their buffalo sauce is unique. In fact I tried to buy some to go, but our server said they don't do that. Although the food was good, the service/attitude could use some work. We arrived for dinner around 5:30 and were informed that it would be about 30 minutes for a table. Flash forward to an hour later and we still weren't sat. The kids in our group played in the arcade and we hung out with them. When one of our party checked in the table and asked why it was taking over an hour they were a bit aggressive and told us we should have had a reservation. The same friend said online they did not have that option, but wanted to point out that if it was going to be longer than said 30 minutes, she would have appreciated being informed of that. Would have given us an option of going elsewhere as we were all with hungry kids. Overall, I'd go back, but I'll try the Bloomington location instead. read more

The place is in a little strip mall. It's smaller than it appears on the outside but that's not a big issue - just noting as it might take awhile to get seated on a busy weekend. There was live music playing the night I went. The singer even had a little QR placard you could use to request songs and tip, which is pretty cool. The server was friendly and checked on us a few times. The food was brought out promptly and was well seasoned. The calamari is mixed with either banana peppers or pepperoncinis so be wary if you don't like spice - not that they were really spicy. Salmon was grilled nicely - I've had salmon from other local restaurants where you can taste the propane, not here. Only sad part was they didn't have tiramisu, quintessential for an Italian restaurant imo. read more

Great experience all around! I was a bit hesitant to try, based off some of the more critical reviews online. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and our server was responsive and helpful. The food came out super quick and was very tasty! Even though it was pretty packed, we got in right away. They had live music, people were jamming and the kids was loving the back game room- so the vibe was great! As for the meals- the bruschetta was awesome. The tomatoes and basil were perfectly ripe and the bread was boarder line doughy (I promise it was tasty)! My husband got the cowboy burger with onion rings- it was on a scrumptious brioche bun and the meat was perfectly done. The onion rings weren't overly greasy either. The portion was very generous Lastly, I got the salmon and risotto. I knew it was a gamble- but it turned out yummy! Decided to visit Carmine's for my birthday dinner with my sister and little nephew. We arrived around 4:40pm on a Wednesday night for an earlier dinner. The host was friendly and seated us right away. Within a few minutes of us sitting down, our waitress was ready to take our drink order. We ordered the cheese bread for an appetizer and I will definitely get that each time I visit Carmine's. Cooked to perfection, yum! I ordered the Italian sandwich. Generous portion and tasted great. My sister got the Cajun pasta and that was also very delicious. My little nephew had the kids cheese pizza (not pictured), but he loved the cheese bread the most. Portions are large. We both had leftovers for the next day. Restaurant was clean and bright. There's a bar right when you walk in and pull-tabs to the right. We also noticed there was a backroom with arcade games. Popped in here on a whim to try a new place. Nice patio outside, dark atmosphere inside with a lot of space, really liked the setup. Service was solid, which is what carries this from a 3 to a 4. Apps: Balls And Bread - really good. The meatballs are one of the best parts. Very soft, not over cooked, moist (say it with me, mooooiiiisssssttttt), and the marinara they serve it with is good. The bread was just ok, I'd rather just eat the balls. *Note on their marinara, it's on the sweet side, which isn't my thing for marinara but it's still good. Italian Fries - really good as well. Enjoyed eating this. The dough is good, and the flavoring between the cheese, spices and sweet marinara works. Deep-Fried Raviolis - swing and miss! Over fried and flavorless. Not much else to say about it other than that. Nobody in our party enjoyed eating these, so, yeah, not worth getting. Entree- Meatball hoagie, meh. The bun completely fell apart and left me picking balls up with my hand to eat. As noted above, the meatballs are good, but, when you get a sandwich, you'd hope the vessel is going to be there to the end - the bread failed here and became a soggy mess of dough. Think it over. I got the "Carmine's Famous Sirloin" which, I'm not sure what it's famous for, honestly. It's a decent cut, cooked to order - slightly over - but there is no real flavor to it. Certainly nothing to make it "famous." No special seasoning to it or topping to set it apart from any other slab of cow. So, while it was good, nothing famous about it or anything that would make the dish truly better than just "good" as unfortunate as that is considering the price. The risotto was really good. As was the asparagus. So there is that. All in all, good, not great. If service is on like ours was, 4 stars all day. read more

Came to Carmine's for Father's Day dinner. The reservation my spouse made in advance was honored, which is great. When we arrived, it was sort of busy, with more people sitting outside, and it was hopping inside by the time we left. The inside is as others have mentioned, dark tables but comfy booths, and the patio plants were beautifully maintained. Our service was quick and very nice. We had buffalo chicken nachos, sun dried tomato flatbread, chicken marsala, and baked penne mozzarella. Spouse loved the nachos, and has plenty of leftovers (I'll help him out, don't worry). My MIL loved the balsamic on the flatbread, and noted it was nice with the tomatoes. My FIL had the chicken Marsala and said it was his 100% favorite from anywhere he usually gets it. My penne was okay, it seemed like it was cooked just enough before hitting the salamander for melted cheese but still had a small floury taste. Could be the pasta itself or another 30 seconds in water might have helped. No matter, still tasty and VERY cheesy! I also have leftovers and know they'll be perfect when I reheat them. I tried one of the nachos and really liked the balance of flavors, plus a jalapeno is never a bad addition. I remember coming to Carmine's once during the pandemic, but I don't remember what I had, and having been back, a third time is on the table for the summer. I'm glad to see it thriving. read more

This is a neat restaurant tucked deep in Woodbury. Went here with a bunch of friends for happy hour. Half price rails, taps and some bottled beer. Of our party of eight, only one ordered a happy hour beer. I ordered a Colorado Bulldog which was very good! Appetizers were $3 off. We ordered bruschetta which was ok. A little soft in the middle of the loaf. We shared this between two people and it was a good sized portion. We also ordered wings which were not on happy hour special but were very tasty! Good, thick bone-in wings that were very meaty. Yum! Others in party ordered similar things and were enjoyed. The atmosphere is fun. The service was great. Our server was very attentive. My adorable son decided to surprise me with a Valentine's Day reservation here (via an adult, of course). He was so excited to be a gentleman and handle everything from the host to the bill. When we arrived, the hostess didn't see our reservation. I decided to look at the page myself and saw that his name was indeed there, but had been mistakenly crossed out, even though we were early. We were seated at a window table and waited about 10 minutes for a server to take our drink order. By then, we'd figured out what we wanted to eat but she didn't stick around long enough for us to say so. Once we finally ordered, it was about a half hour before the food arrived. I had ordered the Cajun chicken penne. It had so much Cajun seasoning in it, it was barely edible. I couldn't taste anything else. I had intended to order a second glass of wine, but the server didn't come back until my son was so bored he was practically climbing the chairs. So, I asked for the bill, a couple boxes, and some extra bread to go. Boxes and bill came, no bread. Since my son was paying himself in cash, we had to wait another 10 minutes to get change; at this point we'd been there an hour and a half for a one course meal. The bill for my entree, one glass of wine, and a kids meal was pretty steep at around $35. I don't see us coming back here again. read more

I was, I feel like I was racially discriminated at carmines from a manager that came to our table.After we complain about our Alfredo was mixed with oil to the brim. And he came to our table and said to us. That that was how it's supposed to be. There's nothing we can do about it and then he could proceed to say. We were have been there before and he recognizes us from a previous experience and when he said that, we were shocked because we hadn't been there 8 months, if not longer and then he's to proceed to accuse us of being loud when we were only talking to him in a normal state of voice. My mom is loud because she has hearing AIDS. And it was very loud music and the restaurant. I'm pretty sad I have to give this place 2 stars. I've been meaning to try this place for awhile since I moved close by 6 months ago, and finally took the opportunity. I didn't have much expectations, but unfortunately those weren't even met. I can say the hostess and the wait staff were very nice. The waitress was extremely attentive and refilled my water multiple times (I'm one of those people that drinks lots of water before, during, and even after my meal). Preeeetty good service. The food though, was not good. (sorry to Sierra, my waitress, to whom I didn't tell the truth, I didn't want to tell you how disappointed I was and ruin our night). I ordered the fried calamari, lasagna, and a side of risotto. The calamari was pretty standard, not terribly bad. It was fried well (meaning they cooked it right), but the batter just didn't have much flavor to it, so ended up tasting very very bland. I did like their marinara sauce though. It was on the sweet side; different, but good (not out of this world, but it had distinct hints of herbal flavor. The dish also had aoli sauce come with it (not bad). The lasagna was described as classic with just mozzarella and bechamel sauce. The dish looked great (super cheesy) when it came out, but trying to eat it was a chore. Layers and layers of cheese made it hard to eat. I LOVE cheese, but the mozzarella on this just did not break up easily. It was thick and took a knife to take any bite. May be the quality (age or brand) of the mozzarella, I don't know. It was wayyyy to rubbery. I will say that the lasagna noodles themselves were cooked right, al dente. I was looking forward to the risotto, BUT it came out and after one or two bites I confirmed that the rice grains throughout the dish were under-cooked... still tough....like had a half crunchiness to them... I actually just brought it home and simmered it in more water and a little bit of olive oil, which worked. Edible. This dish also had way too much cheese in it...(or maybe just not good cheese??) Overall the flavor was okay, but definitely could be alot better...cleaner, more distinct... It seemed like it was missing herbs or spices.. as there was only a singular overwhelming cheese taste. Sad to say, but I'm probably never going to Carmines again... I may end up there to have some beers and watch sports, but that's a big maybe. I warned my brother off this place too.. that 'not good'. To the point...there's no reason to try the food there. From what I browsed of the menu..the worst thing is the pricing isn't inexpensive. An entree for lunch is already $14 and dinner averages $19..... I expect better quality food and better preparation. Even a Buffalo Wild Wings or AppleBees is comparable or better in food quality while being cheaper. read more
