Good, but inconsistent. We went to Beartown Bar & Grill for the first time last week, and it was so good that we returned 3 days later. We ordered the same things on both visits. We had the signature burger with fries and a side of ranch, and the chicken and ribs with a salad. On our first visit, we were seated promptly. The burger was fresh and the fries were super hot and tasty; the ranch tasted homemade. The chicken was amazing, the ribs had a delicious sauce that was smoky and not too sweet, and the side salad was big enough that we were able to actually split it between us. The waitress was attentive without being annoying and she brought us 3 wet wipes and an extra plate to put the discarded rib bones on. However, just 3 days later, we had an entirely different experience. We stood at the door for easily 10 minutes before being seated. The waitress forgot to bring the ranch dressing we asked for when we ordered. The fries were cold-ish and stale; the burger didn't taste seasoned. The side salad had a rotten slice of cucumber and we only got 1 side of dressing when we got 2 sides of dressing previously. The salad wasn't large enough to share this time. The pieces of chicken were smaller and although the ribs were still good, this time we had to ask for wet wipes (we were given 2 instead of 3 like last time) and a plate for the rib bones. It was pretty disappointing... if our first experience at Beartown had been like our second visit, we wouldn't have gone back. read more

Came here for the wings (duh) and it was pretty good! It's a whole wing so be prepared to get your hands dirty. They are breaded and comes with a sauce on the side, but aren't tossed like traditional wings. I came in with the expectation that these wings are deliciously crunchy and juicy, and they were exactly that. It comes out hot and fresh - so hot you can't even eat it right away. 6 wings for $16 shocked me at first - I thought I'd have to order more (I was sharing them) but when they came out, I realized that 6 was perfectly enough. They're pretty big! These are more like fried chicken wings than your traditional bar chicken wings. A nice change of pace and it really lived up to the hype. It was a little busy on a Gopher Gameday, but we still managed to grab a table when we arrived 15 minutes before the game. Grabbed a couple giant mugs of beer and they hit the spot. No frills, better than your standard bar type food at a really reasonable price. Portion size is spot on for the hungry diner. We came here for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast burrito + mama bear omelet. They have separate rooms depending on if you want to dine in the bar vs restaurant. We were puzzled at first when the hostess asked us seating preference but essentially if you want tv viewing, select the bar area. The dining room is more quiet, no tvs. Decor is not a highlight as the dining room is pretty drab but that doesn't matter as long as the food is pretty good and that's what matters. read more

This is a review for their breakfast experience. Highly recommended, my wife and I went there mid-morning on a Sunday and sat outside on their deck. On a nice day this is one of the spots to be in White Bear Lake. We ordered Bloody Mary's to start that we're so good we ended up having 2 during the course of our breakfast. My wife ordered the Beartown breakfast sandwich and I ordered the Papa Bear Omelet both were very good. Check out the photos as proof. We were committed to yard work the rest of the day and well fueled by the breakfast. We are planning to go for breakfast a few more times this summer to try some of their other menu items. read more

We dined here for the 1st time, but were warned by locals that the food was just average. They were right. But know that all we had were the chicken wings so this comment is to them only, not the full menu. The wings were HUGE but unseasoned. They were deep fried about perfectly. But when biting into them the fryer oil ran out all over our hands and the biggest matter for us? No flavor. Those beautiful huge wings had not been introduced to any sort of breading or even simply salt and pepper. We were warned about those issues with the wings and we ignored those warnings. We will not return for the giant wings. At $30+ for 15 huge wings, we'll find others I am sad to say. Others were eating burgers and other bar foods and seemed to be enjoying them greatly. read more

I'm not very impressed with the food at Beartown; it's mostly a neighborhood sports bar where locals drink beer and watch sports on TV. I was super hungry after a visit to my doctor. And I was looking forward to some hearty food. My server suggested the signature Beartown Burger. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with Beartown. I was the only person in the dining room ordering food. (There were only a handful of people at the bar.) So I expected a great burger, served quickly. My "famous" Beartown Burger & onion rings took half an hour to come out. Keeping an eye on my watch, I knew what was going to happen before the food hit my table. Of course, it was way over cooked to hell. The flavor certainly didn't warrant the "famous" label and it didn't live up to the Beartown restaurant name. The onion rings were okay but mostly flavorless and boring. I was hungry enough to eat a fried raccoon sphincter so it wouldn't have taken much to impress me. But they managed to drop the ball. I had an hour to watch everyone else at the bar. This is obviously a place where locals can hangout to drink and watch a game. Most of the people seemed to know each other. The prices are okay so I guess it's also a good place to bring kids that don't care much about food quality...or if you plan to get drunk and don't care much about flavor because you're half in the bag. My server was great. She was spot-on and on top of everything. Too bad the food didn't match up to the service. I'm being generous and calling them a 3 and hoping that - maybe - I just caught them on a bad day. In reality, my visit was probably closer to a 2. MONDAY NIGHT BINGO!! I played here the week before for the first time! I had no problems. Today 5/20 I walked in to find a spot. I went the bar and put two daubers in the empty space. When I came back a guy moved them over and then bartender tells me he need his top spender right here. He didn't know what I would order. I moved and kept calm. So I asked waitress for a table she said it's one in back..so I sit down waiting on bingo to start the waitress tells me it's a $15 minimum like really like I never heard of such. The Bingo cards wasn't even passed out yet so again how would she know what I'm spending. I hate using the race card but because I wasn't a regular here or a certain color my money was no good here. I am never disappointed with the food when at Beartown! The food is amazing along with their service. It's nice and cozy with friendly faces every time. In the picture shown, there is the delicious breakfast burrito (my all time favorite), potatoes, mama bear omelette, English muffin and hash browns. I've been making a point to check out the different pubs around White Bear Lake, and I've not yet found one whose staff were less pleasant or welcoming than Beartown. The food was decent, but the server at the bar could not do her job, and was ignoring guests in favor of socializing with one of her coworkers. I was treated as though my presence as a paying customer was unwanted, with huge delays before I was asked for my order and again when I was ready to close out my ticket. When I commented on the delay on the latter, with my payment card presented, the server became openly passive aggressive and hostile. I went to Beartown to try one of their burgers, and the staff treated me like I was a dog to maybe eventually feed when they got around to doing it. I can only hope this place gets better help at some point. read more

Phenomenal place!!! Service is top notch! Our waitress was funny, informative, and attentive! Food...it's bar food, but it is amazing, delicious bar food. Everything is always perfectly cooked and healthy portions. I always get the turkey burger and it is spot on delicious. This place is actually no star good. I knew it was going to be bad just by the weird metal and purple senior citizen home chairs in the dining room. Dinner on a Tuesday at 6pm had one table besides ours. I had the chicken dinner. It was rubbery and really greasy. The salad was wilted ice berg and half a tomato with onions and croutons. Yuck. I always have excellent service here, and all of the food is so good! Chicken wings, spaghetti, pizza fries, I could go on. Their tacos on Taco Tuesday are big and delicious, and you need to try them! I also recently went here on a Monday night for the first time and it was burger/bingo night. We were so excited to have found "what I thought was going to be a gem" bar/restaurant near our home... A nice selection of straight forward food selections; often home made. It's popular with the locals, and we really enjoyed going there... at first. Now, not so much. The food remains consistent but some of the servers have become crabbier rather than kinder. We've always tipped well and have been pleasant but it's to the point now that I'd rather pick up my food to skip the attitude. This place is much more "bar" than "grill" (or 'casual dining'). We walked in shortly after 11 and the place was packed already. The tables are really crammed in the room and it's even hard to walk around. The server came over right away and took our drink order. After she brought our food, we didn't see her again until she came to bring us the bill - well after we were done eating.She was friendly enough, but never bothered to check on us or bring drink refills. Also, strangely, just after we placed our order, this older woman came over, reached in front of me and took the placemat and silverware away from the empty spot at the table. It was so weird! She didn't really even speak to us, just stuck her arm in my face. The menu offers burgers and sandwiches with a couple of pizzas and apps. I ordered a cheeseburger with bacon and my husband got a mushroom and Swiss. The food was actually very good. The burger was juicy, just a tiny bit greasy, and really well seasoned. The waffle fries were good. There was no kids menu so we just ordered an appetizer for our son. There are a lot of TVs and one big projection screen showing all things football. It was loud in there from the people (not the televisions). I think I'd get take out there again but it's not really a family place so I don't see us returning. read more

I liked the burger buns- I think they put some garlic butter on them or something. HH is on from open to close. I go here for breakfast and a Bloody Mary with my dad pretty much every time I go home. Not classy, but cheap and delicious. I don't really have a go-to favorite dish but the biscuits and gravy really stands out in my mind for some reason... I like that the sausage is little cut-up piece of links instead of ground sausage. Mmmm. I've never been here at any other time of day but I know my parents have for various things and I think I usually hear good things. I know I once had some takeout waffle fries with some special sour cream that my dad is obsessed with and they were very tasty. They also have cheap specials like wing night and taco night. Can't speak for all of them, but the old ladies probably shouldn't be working anymore.
