The shelves are stacked immaculately with colorful sodas, fresh tortillas exotic fruits and spices. There was an entire aisle devoted to corn and other grains. I rarely see apple bananas on the mainland, so grabbed a bunch. At $1.99, they were a good deal. I also picked up cornmeal for fresh cornbread. The El Milagro corn tortillas are my favorite, they were soft, aromatic and fresh. The Taqueria was not ready to serve even though the hours were technically opened. I'll return to check out the tacos and tamales. For now, I left a happy camper with a few staples for my Latin meal prep.

I stopped in this shopping center while running errands, and the "Asian Market" caught my eye. I wrongly assumed it would be a Korean grocery, but it appears that the owners focus on southern Chinese and Thai ingredients. It was a disappointing experience, though I imagine I was not the target audience. There are some great Asian groceries in Indy, and this is not one of them. Shelves were dusty, and their food stock looked old. A sad fridge in the back held a few fresh veggies like napa cabbage, but most of the space in the store was devoted to dusty shelves of ramen noodles and other dry goods. It had a surprisingly large canned good section--larger than other local markets-- with Chinese and Southeast Asian canned items. They also had some household items such as shampoos, body washes, and cooking utensils. However, I saw very little to tempt me to buy. Skip Pyone Cho and head to Viet Hua or One World.

But I gather that Desi District cares not for all that mess: everyone is welcome. This is a neat spot to grab a hot lunch or stock up on food of the Indian persuasion, like the frozen packages of naan I scored. Initially, I stopped in because I needed a tomato. They have lots of tomatoes here, plus other fresh produce, like potatoes, garlic, ginger, peanuts in the shell, and other things. They also have aisles of packaged food, such as cookies, tea, gelatin (?!? Yeah, they have lots of gelatin here), noodles, spices, seeds, curry, snacks, and lots of other things. Along with the frozen naan, I also got some ice cream treats for my kids. I picked the most obscure flavors (obscure for our American gringo palates), and we ended up loving all of the Indian ice cream flavors we tasted. There's a food court here with lots of seating. I didn't eat any of the hot food this time, but I saw some samosas that looked dang delicious, so I'll have to be back to try them. The people who work here are exceedingly friendly and kind. The person ringing up my purchases called me madam, which was adorable, because who even says madam anymore?

There is a bunch of seating with large tables that accommodate groups and smaller tables. The dining area is bright and airy with interesting graffiti on the walls. You order and pay in the back and wait for your food to come out. The menu offers a bunch of traditional Indian options such as curries, tandoor, mandi and much more. There is a chai station, bakery and ice cream stand as well. There's so much to choose from. We ordered the lunch special Veg Thali, which is a plate containing a mix of little dishes, so you can taste everything. For some reason they were out of rice, which was the main ingredient on the plate so they gave us the option of additional naan, which was fine. We liked all the dishes on the Thali. I especially enjoyed the Paneer dish. The curries were warm and delicious. There was a very spicy hot spread that we loved. I'd get Thali again. We also ordered some garlic naan. The naan seemed to be frozen as the bread was hot on the outside but cold on the inside. We were disappointed by the garlic naan. But the regular naan that came with our Thali was good. We also ordered samosas which were flavorful and filling. An order comes with some 3 Samosas and a sweet dipping sauce. Very good. They must be a little short staffed. Food came out over the course of 10-30 minutes. We purchased a few things from the grocery store prices are a bit steep, but food looks fresh. Parking is adequate in the private lot. Restrooms are available. I'd come back. I love Indian food.

Missing one star because many things in the store didn't have a price which made it hard for me to shop within my budget. Many things either had no price, or were positioned on the shelf where it's labeled as a completely different product. It was confusing. Price visibility is important to me. I'm glad they opened in this area, and I will go back.

The freezer section had meat that was freezer burnt and touching other meats. Contamination definitely was a concern, as the meats were just sitting in the freezer without any covering. However Google maps suggested this store and i was so happy they had what i was looking for! Saved me an hour trip. I guess the store opened up around 2020-2021. The shopkeeper was friendly, store was clean. I was surprised at the variety and number of items that was neatly packed into the shop. Pricing also seemed reasonable too. Awesome to have a place like this on the northwest side of Indy.
