We had high expectations on this spot after watching it pop up on my for you page on social media. First off the art work was absolutely adorable! It gets you excited to come in. The garam jalebiya drew me in. We came to try them in celebration for my birthday. Unfortunately, only thing I would come back for is the Irani Chai. We ordered irani chai, mango lassi, mysore masala dosa, jalebi and the chole bhature. The bhatura was crispy - this is not the texture of a bhatura. It should be soft. The chole we enjoyed. The dosa I was disappointed in. The only thing warm was the potato filling and the sambhar. The dosa layer was ice cold and fried in an oil that gave an unpleasant after taste. The jalebiya had the same unpleasant after taste. They were sour. We are not sure if we showed up on a bad day but service and product quality should be consistent. I would hesitate to recommend others in the area to come here for the food. We did share this feedback with the cashier as well.

Excellent choice for lunch and a huge variety of dishes in the menu. Plus attached to a small but very well stocked market. The lunch special thali plate can be ordered either vegetarian or non. The spice level is medium. I look forward to trying their house made dosas. There is plenty of seating inside. Friendly service-- just place order at the counter and pick it up when it's ready.

What I Ordered - chicken 65 (spicy); chicken tandoori momos (spicy); order of samosas. Samosa - they were great, crispy and the filling was a mix of potato carrot and peas. Lots of seasoning, there was a lot of flavor. Sometimes samosas can be bland and starchy but these were really nicely seasoned inside. Momos - the filling was pretty good but what got me was the spice paste they were dressed in. Lots of herbs and green chili and a strong spice mix. Really tasty dish. (picture.) Chicken 65 Biryani - marinated chicken - lots of red chili, coriander, curry leaves, bay leaf, cardamom pods, ginger, cumin. Really tasty. Chicken is salty, pungent, spicy and has a slight sour tang to it. I ordered it spicy as well - im a big fan of heat - I'd put this at a 7/10. Definitely spicy but my face isnt sweating. Great flavors, well prepared - counter help was great explaining. Portions are large, worth the cost in size and quality. This isn't a toned down version of Indian food - don't be intimidated if you're new to the food, get in there and try some. Will definitely be back.

During our work trip to Carmel for 2 weeks, we ate here multiple times. This place is awesome! It has a food court setting for eatery and is very spacious and well planned. The service is great and the decor is nice too! We have tried paneer burger, paneer butter masala, dal makhani, rumali roti, garlic naan, pastries, tres leches rabdi, masala chai, mango lassi, Bombay sandwich and much more. Everything except Bombay sandwich was amazing and highly recommended. The Bombay sandwich is what makes the review 4 stars instead of 5, it was really really bad. The chai is the highlight and should not be missed. This is the best Indian chai I have had at a restaurant in US! Overall - great spot for Indian food cravings, pricing is right and the portion sizes are pretty good. Highly recommend.

Great place to get authentic Indian food. The menu is huge, as is the norm for authentic Indian restaurants. There is also a connected grocery.

Loved the service...food was good too!! Must try! We are glad that they also have a store for the groceries..

    Lemons and mint leaves

I noticed the Desi District as I was running errands in Carmel, and wanted to stop by to check it out. This was the old Vine and Table wine shop location so I wanted to see what they did to the shop. This is an Indian supermarket with an Indian restaurant built into the supermarket. The layout is decent with a separate section for meat. They have a separate room for produce, fruit, and vegetables, which is nice, and they look very fresh. They really did not have anything I wanted, but I did get some lemons and a batch of mint leaves. The staff does not appear to be present and available when you need them, because I had to grab someone to help me check out. For what it is, Desi District is a nice and quaint Indian supermarket. The selection of products is Ok, and the price range appears to be accurate for the supermarket. However, do not expect quality customer service, because I did not get that while I was browsing the shop. I do not know if Desi District will last long in Carmel given what I witnessed, but I hope they are successful. It is just not my particular taste.

Paneer Tikka Masala, Mango lassi, Garlic Naan

the people here were really nice but the paneer tikka masala didn't have that much actual paneer in it. also the paneer was weirdly chewy. the naan was delish though

Casual vibe. Reasonably priced.Good service. I ordered Rumali roti, chicken malai kabab and mutton Chettinadu. They were pretty good. Loved the sauce of the Chettinadu. It was good to dunk a piece of rumali roti on the sauce. We also ordered onion samosas, dosas, medu wada and Chilli chicken They were decent. We got a sweet lassi that was delicious and Cheekoo milkshake. Service was nice. Restrooms were clean. I got freshly made jalebis. They were crisp on the outside and juicy inside. Perfection. No pics of the food as we ate it as soon as it reached the table.

If you are reading reviews, ignore older ones as they may apply to an earlier restaurant. I ordered take-out using an online app. Ordering was easy and the food was ready when I arrived. We started with the appetizer platter. Some were better than others, but the point of getting the platter was to see what we liked best. We shared a lamb with chickpea dinner and liked it very much. It came with rice and bread and 3 small portions of toppings. I also ordered the raita and a second kind of bread. One bread would have sufficed. We had a little of everything left over for lunch another day. We'll order from here again.

The menu had a lot of variety including some dishes I hadn't seen elsewhere. I decided to try something new and ordered the Saag Bhartha which is eggplant in the familiar spinach sauce. The eggplant is cooked down so the dish is creamy and rich; it was very flavorful and a spice level of 3 was perfect for me. It had some heat but didn't result in a burning mouth. The garlic naan was delicious and the basmati rice that came with the entree was perfectly cooked. The serving size was very generous and I enjoyed the leftovers for dinner the next night. I definitely want to try more items on their menu and see some takeout orders in my future. Service was good, and the atmosphere was quiet and perfect for catching up with a friend.

There was a light crowd for lunch, which surprised me given the excellent Indian food. I strongly encourage others to give this new restaurant a try. For an appetizer we had the Shahi Kurkuri Bhindi. This is thinly sliced okra with light breading and seasoning. It is deep fried. It was $10 for plenty to share. We would definitely order it again. They have a lunch menu but we ordered from the regular dinner menu. My wife had the Punjav's Favorite Tikka Masala with chicken. It was $19 and is ranked as some of the best she said she has ever had. I enjoyed the Kashmiri Rogan Josh. You can order it with lamb, chicken, or bone-in goat. I chose the lamb. The serving was very generous and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was $19 as well. We ordered the Rosemary Garlic Naan, for $5, to accompany the dishes and it did not disappoint. All dishes were served with rice. The decor is upscale modern. The servers were very attentive, pleasant. and knowledgeable about the menu. This is the best Indian food I have had in Carmel and ranks very high among any Indian restaurants I have experienced. I encourage others to give it a try ... even if you may have never tasted Indian food. You will find something on the menu and you will not be disappointed.

Still one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the greater Indy region. 3/5 stars however because the food was lukewarm and did not seem well-maintained. Despite the good assortment of options to choose from, the buffet didn't seem as clean as I would have liked. If you don't mind these things it's definitely good bang for your buck. My recommendation is to order regular entrees for dinner though. Not sure if it's a different chef or manager during those times but this was my husband's consensus as well. We both have ordered takeout here countless times but decided not to return for the buffet. We like our food hot and fresh and will pay the premium for that in the future. They didn't have palak paneer or paneer tikka masala for brunch either which are what I typically eat.

Four of us tried Punjabi Tadka after looking at the review. We ordered Chicken Soup, Soya Chaap, Tandoori Shrimp as Appetizers. Good thing they gave us the soup completely bland without any salt, pepper and I liked the idea as the guests can season it as per their need. 07 out of 10 Soya chaap was hard, lacked flavour and the chutneys served didn't help enhance it either. 04 out of 10 Tandoori Shrimp was basically shrimp covered in tandoor masala and cooked on a pan. The onions and green peppers served were soggy with the masala. Highly disappointing but we expected better from the Main course. 03 out of 10 Main course we ordered garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and chicken noodles to begin with. Chicken noodle was mostly spaghetti in marinara sauce with chunks of chicken. We couldn't eat after 1 - 2 spoons. We had to return it. 01 out of 10 Naan was fluffy and the best of the dishes we tried at Punjabi tadka, 09 out of 10. Chicken tikka masala was just a very sweet tomato gravy that made us somehow finish the naan 03 out of 10. Apart from the food though the staff was polite but he lacked common etiquettes. After appetizers and before the main course, he would bring the larger plates to the table without even cleaning the table. We had to ask him to clean the table while we held the plates. We had to find the person to fill in the water bottle and the bottles were not very user friendly. The bill was around 90 USD without the noodle which is fair for a team of 4 but the quality of dishes were not up to the mark. Again I hope it was due to Sunday evening staff crunch.
