Located in the heart of downtown Oxnard across the street from the train station. There is limited street parking. We parked in the lot across the street. This place gets packed but they have the system down and they are fast, clean and efficient. They will ask you if you want straight up carnitas meat or with some of the skin and fat mixed in. Your choice. They chop up the meat right in front of you. You can see how moist and fresh the meat is. Tortillas are a flour/corn combo. The Mexican rice is flavorful and moist. Their individual tacos are huge not small like typical street tacos. I watched them weigh them and they're nearly half a pound each full of carnitas. The only complaint I have is that not to long a go they bumped up their prices and also cut back on their salsa portions. This is the only reason I can't give them 5 stars. The place was very clean and following compliance the tables were cleared and people were standing 6-feet away. Everyone who stepped in who told to wear a mask. The chefs were on a roll trying to get people in and out. It was very organized! One thing, you do have to take precautions with is the parking. There's plenty in the back but, be careful it's very busy! The food is delicious!!! You can get a taco under $3!!! Meaning, splurging on one or two El Rey Carnitas tacos is truly a treat! The traditional preparation method, they claim is Michoacan Style. True or False, I have no idea but I'll take their word for it. I'll tell you, even if you scarfed the taco w/o any toppings, your taste buds would make your eyelids close slowly with delight- The hot, thicker than usual soft tortilla, The generous serving of piping hot VERY TENDER carnitas shamelessly drenched in their own juices will give you that, "Why haven't I've been here before!" feeling. BUT,... ... but if you insist on glorifying your taco, MUY BIEN! Can't leave out the red/green Salsa, Pico de Gallo, and made spicy/tasty enough to tempt the tender palate of El Americano del Otro Lado! A tasty Curtido de Zanahorias will also compliment your meal, and to wash it all down, traditional Mexican beverages are available. GOOD LUCK, there too! 4. STAFFING: They have one Associate assigned to clean Tables, empty trash, answer any questions. Behind the "Vitrina" (Counter) at peak hours, Four Staff: Two Cashiers take your Order & Hard earned Cold-Hard-Cash; Two prepare your Order. All of them are courteous.
