The food was awful. The rice had no flavor nor did the beans. The chicken in the enchilada was in tiny like cubes and extremely hard and dry, not shredded. The food is good not going to lie. But the portion sucks, $16 for a burrito the size of a frozen concession stand burrito, I'll pass.!!!

Why haven't I reviewed this place before? I was shocked that it popped up in my feed as needing a review. This place is what I call Mexican comfort food, my version of McDonald's or Carl's Jr for Mexican food. I will admit, items by them selves are not that great, the asada, pastor, all pretty basic and I dare say mediocre but, when they combine those things in a delicious thing they call a super burrito, Damm!! The red salsa they use is on point, and the fillings they use to create this deliciously addicting "super" burrito will always have a soft spot in my stomach. My go-to order here is always the same, asada super burrito with a chile relleno added, with all the fixings and the red sauce!. Keep in mind, this is a messy burrito, don't expect to come out clen after taking on the bundle of joy but, it sure it worth it. Even though they put enough stuff inside, I usually need about 4-5 extra salsas on the side to be able to take down this bad boy. I'm pretty sure I've been coming to Taqueria El Tapatio since 2007. I frequent their Taco Tuesday Street Tacos. When I crave them, I come here Bec I do love simple & authentic. Lately I've been ordering my food To Go. They do have indoor & outdoor tables available. Just remember to bring Cash! It's "Cash Only" here. You order at the counter, pay & they give you a paper number. While waiting, help yourself to some chips & salsa. They have red & green salsa & lemon wedges at their salsa bar. I usually order Agua de Jamaica Bec it's my favorite. Note: Agua de Jamaica (pronounced ha-MY-cah) is a hibiscus iced tea drink made from dried hibiscus flowers (or "Flor de Jamaica" in Spanish), water and sugar. The hibiscus tea is very tart and almost has a cranberry-like flavor, which is why it's typically sweetened with sugar. I'm usually craving Tacos Al Pastor, so that's my usual. They do offer more authentic meat choices (lengua, cabeza, buche) if you're into that. I've had my fix of these as well. They now serve Breakfast Burritos, so I'll have to try those out soon. Parking can get full, but there's plenty of it. It's a chill atmosphere. Everyone is here to eat. There's a few Taqueria locations in Oxnard. One Location in Ventura & one in Camarillo, but I have not visited those locations... I'm pretty sure I've been holding off on doing a review, Bec, I don't want anyone & everyone to know... I have been coming to this place for over 20 years... this was my first time back after about 3 years. Always been greeted with a smile by whoever is taking orders. I ordered the shrimp cocktail as I always do. The shrimp cocktail used to come with 2 tacos, now they only come with 1 taco. My shrimp cocktail had maybe 10 shrimps. The restroom itself is completely dirty and the walls are filled with graffiti, i wanted to throw up being in there for 2 minutes. The kitchen itself looks dirty and not kept clean. The burrito was decent but had some chunks of cartilage from chicken. Although when asked they stated it was chicken breast. GETTING HERE: This spot is located behind the Walgreens off Ventura Road. I recommend entering off Ventura Road to access parking as it's easier than trying to access parking off 5th. REVIEW: I love tacos. I mean, I LOVE tacos. What is wrong with me that I hadn't yet been to this hidden gem with fantastic food?! Have you been here yet to try their food? Tacos were good and decent price but very oily. I ordered 3 different types of tacos and all of them tasted the same because of the oil it was cooked with. I did really love the chips and salsa bar they had and the rice and beans were good as well. If I could recommend a certain dish, it would be anything with carnitas. Love coming here when I am visiting family. I live in San Diego now and the bfast burritos there don't compare to this one from tapatio! For the same size and mediocre burrito in SD would be $15 this burrito I got today was $10 and packed with flavor and goodness. I wish I ordered myself one since I halved it with my auntie. I have been to this place a few times. It is hard to find a good CLEAN taqueria in Oxnard. First impressions are everything and when one arrives the impression is disgusting. Just see the attached picture. The excess trash may be outside but it is their responsibility to present a good restaurant inside and outside. The trash is all from the restaurant. As one walks in, the smell is unbearable and it immediately overwhelms one senses. It smells of dirty backed up toilet. Try going in the bathroom and it makes one want to vomit. If their toilet is dirty what does it say about their kitchen and the food preparers. As for their salsa bar, looks disgusting with spoons people put their dirty hands on completely submerged in the salsa. The food is rather expensive. Yes, everything is expensive today but one is better off going to Chipotle and not pay 13 to 14 dollars for a burrito. What this restaurant has going for them is that the food tastes very good. Yes their food is very tasty. Unfortunately, the pros don't outweigh the cons. For the expensive prices I wish the owner would invest in some cleanliness. read more
