A perfect weekend Summer meal
Crystal L.

If you know, you know... this taqueria hits every time! From the moment you walk up, the smell alone lets you know something good is cooking. The tacos? Absolutely delicious -- juicy, flavorful, and always made fresh. And the best part? It's FAST. You're not waiting forever to eat, which makes it perfect for lunch breaks or quick dinner runs. Plus, the patio is such a vibe -- especially on summer weekends. Grab your favorite plate, sip a cold drink, and enjoy the breeze. Whether you're rolling through solo or bringing the whole crew, this spot never disappoints. #TacoLoversUnite #VenturaEats #TaqueriaVibes #SummerBites #FastAndFresh

I'm pretty sure I've been coming to Taqueria El Tapatio since 2007. I frequent their Taco Tuesday Street Tacos. When I crave them, I come here Bec I do love simple & authentic. Lately I've been ordering my food To Go. They do have indoor & outdoor tables available. Just remember to bring Cash! It's "Cash Only" here. You order at the counter, pay & they give you a paper number. While waiting, help yourself to some chips & salsa. They have red & green salsa & lemon wedges at their salsa bar. I usually order Agua de Jamaica Bec it's my favorite. Note: Agua de Jamaica (pronounced ha-MY-cah) is a hibiscus iced tea drink made from dried hibiscus flowers (or "Flor de Jamaica" in Spanish), water and sugar. The hibiscus tea is very tart and almost has a cranberry-like flavor, which is why it's typically sweetened with sugar. I'm usually craving Tacos Al Pastor, so that's my usual. They do offer more authentic meat choices (lengua, cabeza, buche) if you're into that. I've had my fix of these as well. They now serve Breakfast Burritos, so I'll have to try those out soon. Parking can get full, but there's plenty of it. It's a chill atmosphere. Everyone is here to eat. There's a few Taqueria locations in Oxnard. One Location in Ventura & one in Camarillo, but I have not visited those locations... I'm pretty sure I've been holding off on doing a review, Bec, I don't want anyone & everyone to know... Welp, now they do. Just one of the many handfuls of Mexican Restaurants that Oxnard has to offer :)

I should not have ate here for lunch. The whole restaurant smelled like the restroom. The restroom itself is completely dirty and the walls are filled with graffiti, i wanted to throw up being in there for 2 minutes. The kitchen itself looks dirty and not kept clean. The burrito was decent but had some chunks of cartilage from chicken. Although when asked they stated it was chicken breast. I feel bad leaving a bad review but the state of cleanliness of this restaurant needs to be investigated.

The food is on point. It always hits and never disappoints. The service is exceptionally well. The ambiance is fine if you're looking to get a meal with a friend. The tables are kinda small but they work.

Three carne asada tacos, rice, beans with Chile de arbol salsa and pickled carrots and a medium cucumber lemon drink hit the spot!

Yes. Just yes. It's a yes. Get this: Taco Al Pastor. Yup. 5/31/22

GETTING HERE: This spot is located behind the Walgreens off Ventura Road. I recommend entering off Ventura Road to access parking as it's easier than trying to access parking off 5th. REVIEW: I love tacos. I mean, I LOVE tacos. What is wrong with me that I hadn't yet been to this hidden gem with fantastic food?! Have you been here yet to try their food? I would recommend getting here ASAP. Just a note - they only accept cash. I placed my order quickly and with ease. I was a tad overwhelmed with all the options available, so I kept it quick and easy with a taco. You can't go wrong with a taco, right? And, sure enough, there was NO wrong. This taco was so good! I could Google a bunch of adjectives to describe it but please. Just go here and order something, anything. Friendly, helpful service. I'll be sure to update my review when I go back for my 2nd time. Definitely recommend!

The food is good not going to lie. But the portion sucks, $16 for a burrito the size of a frozen concession stand burrito, I'll pass.!!!

A place recommended by a contractor who fixed our windows in Oxnard California. The man claims this…read moreis the best Mexican birria he's ever had in his life. With that being said, I wanted to try it out. This was about 2 years ago prior to this visit I had today at this location. I jotted the note down after overhearing him talking about it while watching Netflix. When arriving, the environment outside is run down, old fashioned and in the scary graffiti, homeless surrounding. Parking is difficult to find, but we got lucky me and a colleague. The place is on a road side where parking it located a few streets between about 100 feet away. The surrounding had graffiti and loitering which was unpleasant and I would imagine it is worse at night, be careful here! Inside, a wonderful aroma excites you as you enter the restaurant. Booths all around and hard uncomfortable seats. A lot of people came here today on Sunday afternoon. Customer service was excellent, the guy at the front was very chill, polite and acted as if I was his homie, buddy or good friend. This is what I like. I ordered the birria of course, a meat drenched in a bunch of flavors for days to keep the meat juicy, tender and moist. The variations ordered were three tacos plate with birria, onions cilantro and a consome that was massive. This meal was $17. The other order was a four piece birria quesadilla that was absolutely delightful, succulent and had a delicious hunger craving aroma and flavor that any starving or hungry person would die for! This plate was $14. The tacos did come with beans and rice. Between the two dishes the birria quesadilla was my favorite however, the tacos tasted better. The tortilla of the tacos was fresh and made with love. The value was regular, something I expected compared to taco trucks and side vendors of Mexican food. This place is extraordinary. I felt guilty after consumption because it was fatty, juicy and everything you would want in a pleasurable meal, but it was heavy on the calories and filling. It was a messy meal, I added salsas, more seasoning from the condiments bar. There were so many different sauces and fillings like lemon etc. to balance the flavors of the birria. The console incuded was an added kick that I loved. Definitely one of the best if not the best birria I ever had and I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican cuisine at its finest. An absolute hidden treasure that you need to try! I'll come back after a month of consistent cardio and strength training to burn enough fat and make room for another appetite that soothes my brain cells.

Place isn't too big inside and it was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I was for sure going to get the nachos and tacos but wanted more. Jesus was kind enough to recommend the grilled cheese and burrito. Both were great recs and delish! I mean I thought about the grilled cheese and burrito days after. The horchata was creamy and you could tell it was made in house. This place is delish, no notes.

I went there for lunch on a weekday, and I was pretty pleased with the service and food. The woman at the counter did speak English so that's always feels more comfortable, especially if you have any special requests. They have an open kitchen where they assemble orders, and the cook was rather friendly. I ordered a roasted pork burrito (I can't remember the name, but it's not carnitas). The meat was tender and tasted like it was slow cooked. The tortilla is not anything special, but all the fillings (rice, beans) were good. There is larger rice than beans ratio, but they give plenty of meat protein. I have been here several times in the past. I remember totally ratchet seating areas, where there were large holes in the floor. There seems to be some updates and the seating area is cleaned up (but I've only done takeout). They now also accept credit cards. For a low cost burrito, this is satisfying. Most burritos are ~ 10.

Unfortunately, I've had two negative experiences that changed my opinion of the business…read more The first happened when my family and I purchased three full orders of food and were told we couldn't use the restroom. Instead of speaking to us directly, the owner asked an employee to tell us that customers were not allowed to use it. As paying customers, that felt frustrating and unwelcoming. The second experience involved the aguas frescas. I asked if I could sample a flavor before purchasing, and I was told no. When I asked what would happen if I didn't like the drink, I was informed that the restaurant does not allow exchanges or refunds. While I understand businesses have policies, the interaction came across as unfriendly and left a bad impression. After supporting this restaurant for years, these experiences were enough for me and my family to decide not to return. Loyal customers want to feel valued and appreciated, and I hope management takes customer service concerns seriously because great food alone isn't always enough to keep customers coming back.
