Carol and Mark are awesome. They did the landscape at both my house and my boyfriend's house. Mine was a smaller project where they replaced courtyard plants and redid planters. It looks fabulous! At my boyfriend's house they did a HUGE job!! He has a large lot which they completely cleared and put in 7000 feet of irrigation, new sod, French drains, new plants and a lovely pathway around the yard. They did both front and back. It is a miraculous transformation and has added so much value. It has now been a couple of months and they come back to make sure everything is doing well and the watering is going as programmed etc. They have given us instructions on how to care for everything. A few of the new plants didn't make it and they were all replaced. Carol and Mark really care about the work! They are kind, hard working, thorough and knowledgeable. I originally was going to have only my front planter beds redone. After she told me what she was going to do and the price, I decided to have her do both the front and back yards I then hired her husband Mark to redo the sprinkler system for the front and back yards and lay new sod for my front yard. He also had the edges to my flower bed changed, which really improved how my backyard looked. Carol has a 90 day guarantee, that she will replace any plant that dies. I waited until the 90 days elapsed to write my review as I wanted to see if she stood by her word. She did and more. I get so many compliments on my landscaping. Carol and Mark Burgland are amazing people - true artists, hard working, extremely efficient, very knowledgeable about plants in our area, irrigation, lighting, and landscaping. A previous potential contact had asked for deposits of over $1,000 for consultation, plans and designs before work was even begun. Carol, on the other hand, came to our home within a few days of contacting her, assessed our job, took time to listen carefully to our ideas and to look at photos we had saved, walked and talked the area with us, and charged nothing for the consultation. She invited us to her home to see samples of some plant groupings to see various options ( and to give advice even if we didn't choose to go with her services). For many years, my small front yard has been an eyesore. Nothing grew, except for the lovely lush weeds and my nearly 20 year old Strawberry Tree. When the tree died recently, I decided it's time look for a professional who could do what other landscape designers have not. I called several designers, including several that are associated with large, well-known nurseries (still waiting for callbacks), Carol called back the same afternoon and even apologized for the delay. After explaining by dilemma, Carol seemed genuinely interested in helping and was even willing to commute to my region even though it was out of her normal service area. Carol and Mark made an appointment to view the location very quickly, and when the time came, they surveyed the yard and attentively listened my goals (minimal maintenance and attracting hummingbirds and butterflies) and tree replacement. Withing minutes, Mark had determined how to alter the sprinklers to keep the landscaping alive and Carol seemed to know what to plant and where. Later that evening, I had an estimate in my email. They were ready to squeeze my job in between some other clients, but I delayed due my schedule. The work started a week later and was expected to take 3 days. The team arrived right on time and began immediately. The work ethic of the crew was incredible, constant focus on getting the job done. The work was actually finished in TWO days and they even planted a larger tree than they normally would to provide us more shade. After completion, Carol responded back and gave watering and maintenance recommendations and reiterated the 3 month warranty on the plants. I could not be happy with the entire crew. Professionalism and Integrity. Five stars are simply not enough for Mark and Carol. My wife and I are so happy we went with these good folks and for a lot of reasons. I have always loved the tropics and converting my back yard into a tropical paradise has been a goal of mine for many years. We had several conversations with Carol before making a decision. With her diverse background into tropical plants and vegetation throughout the world, we felt that we could trust her to make wise decisions. We were not disappointed. First, for me to do business with anyone, they have to be good communicators. With today's technology (cell phones, texting, email, etc.) there is simply no excuse to be otherwise. Mark and Carol were always quick to get back with answers to questions we might have as well as keeping us informed as to what to expect next and exactly when during the entire project. They both get an A+ for communications. Mark was excellent in keeping me informed as to what was needed and when. I had no idea how involved a professional landscaping project is. There is much work to be done and following the proper order of things is so important. He was on top of things at all times and his crew was a pleasure to watch. It all started with planning. From there they prepared the soil and went right into the irrigation and sprinkler system. I had some low areas in my yard where there was no runoff. Mark's answer to that was building two French Drains. I had no idea what that meant but now I do and they have completely solved the problem. Once Mark's job was near completion, that is when Carol took over with her expertise and artistry. Amazing! Plants kept arriving. Palms, ferns, and so many others that I can't remember all their names. Plants from all over the world. Carol knew exactly where she wanted each individual plant and the crew followed her direction to a tee. The end result far exceeded my wildest expectations. For my wife and me, it is a dream come true. And all of this is surrounding our new koi pond and pavers. We are already enjoying our new tropical paradise and it is still winter ! Again, five stars are all I am allowed to award here. Wish there were more. I can only say I highly recommend Mark and Carol and wish to thank them for a job very well done ! We just finished a project at my house that involved taking out 50+ year old growth (sad to see, but roots were causing problems), replacing driveways, completely redoing our sprinkler system and replanting. We could not be happier with our decision to entrust our backyard to Carol, Mark and their team. I had asked for several quotes from other landscape companies but upon speaking to Carol over the phone, I knew right away that she's the one who can help me with my patio project. Carol and Mark are very professional, honest, very responsive and mindful to all of my needs and have helped in every way they can to make the process smooth and easier for me. I have a front and back patios with lots and lots of overgrown succulents and an overgrown tree. The small river rocks that they have installed in my side yard walkway and beautifully placed around plants instantly gave my space a relaxed and more inviting feel. I love love these river rocks that Carol recommended to install as they are much easier to walk on compared to the bigger rocks that I used to have in my yard. It started with a note on our door: "You have the ugliest yard in the neighborhood. DO SOMETHING!" Between my husband and I both being in grad school, the extremely wet winter, and me helping caregive for sick family members the last couple of years, our yard was the least of my concerns. My brother lovingly referred to it as "The Shire," since the rolling mounds of Korean grass gave it an otherworldly appeal (though one more suited to orcs rather than hobbits). The weeds came up to my waist, and the worse the growth become, the more hopeless the cleanup seemed. Our situation was bleak, and our former landscaper (current neighbor), who had cut corners like some people cut coupons, was the prime suspect for the nasty note. Our landlord (my mother-in-law) found Carol on Yelp, and was pleased with the reviews and her portfolio. She came out for a consultation on a Saturday, and by Sunday her husband's crew was out removing the jungle that had made its home in our front and back yards. Friday came the plants, and today they finished laying the sod, installing the sprinkler system, and set us up with a landscaper to maintain our new yard. Carol is an artist.
