This time we were hunting for hard to find size chairs to replace a pair of 25yo Baker brand chairs (yes, we are replacing not reupholstering them given the style just doesn't work for being comfy seating for me now even though a premium brand) for home office tv viewing and reading. This time we experienced this Basset store as possible buyers and in that view my original 4 star bumps up to 5 star experience. DESIGN PROFESSIONALS STAFF & GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE: Although we gave it a good try thanks to the help of one of the designers, Jamie who has been in the design industry and knows her stuff as well as the Bassett inventory, we couldn't find the right fit of style and fabric combined. But we appreciated the bright large space with ample space to navigate around the items on display as well as the handy design center with fabric samples...custom carpet corner pieces too...and that we could take home large fabric 'memo samples' to look at in our space. The young owner-manager, Chance, models top notch customer care, also weighed in to answer a question that Jamie wanted his help to answer for me. And his looking out for customers was also so for all the store employees. THEIR NICHE & AUDIENCE: The Bassett brand is on the mid range, maybe lower mid range, in prices and for what it is the quality seems very good with customization available in some pieces for wood finishes, fabrics and cushion fills. Some pieces are bench made in the U.S. They offer custom dining table sizes sometimes only found in higher price brands. If you're in the market for furniture in the Treasure Valley, Basset is definitely worth the look and in particular if you're a CHF or RC Willey or Bungalow Home audience shopper I think you'll find options here that may be better quality in similar price points. I had always assumed Bassett was extremely expensive but I was pleasantly surprised! I have been to many of the high-end name stores in the treasure valley and their prices were two to three times the amount for the exact same furniture that Bassett sells. I wish I knew about them sooner! So far I've ordered six dining room chairs and a sectional and have plans to order a console, Ottoman and a coffee table from Bassett. I got to choose from a ton of custom fabrics...many of them performance and Crypton. Thanks Meridian Bassett crew!​

Had I written a review based on my 2015 experience here you would have found me in the 1 star camp. I went back in today only because I was at another store nearby and figured "why not". I didn't know the ownership had changed here before I went in but it was evident from the moment I stepped inside that things had taken a turn for the better. I haven't purchased from them so this rating is simply reflecting my enthusiasm for the good changes here. The greeting was "welcome to the store" from across the room, as the friendly staff person approached, asked if we'd been in before and what brought us in today. She made suggestions on things we might look at and could answer the questions we had. The improved store layout allows ample space to browse through the vignettes in each of the rooms to be able to see everything. We noticed how well staged and sparkling clean were the displays now with more up to date look as compared to our eighteen months prior experience. They didn't have the kind of things we were searching for and we typically are looking for a higher quality and price point product line in case goods and upholstered furnishings. So in the mode of "it's not you, it's me", this isn't a store I'm likely to visit often. But having said "never again" after our 2015 experience with service and layout, I find myself recommending someone might go take a look here. Noting the negative reviews from in the time period leading up to mid 2016, both on this Yelp page and behind the Yelp filter, you might date sort and notice the reviews written more recently are good ones. Perhaps that's the new ownership influence being noticed. . If you go in, here are a couple of TIPS: a. If you're looking for large scale, mass produced art work they have some that is among the more interesting and "non mass produced looking" of any we've seen in the area at some of the best price points. We're not in the market but if you are...worth a check in! b. They have a modest assortment of some interesting looking, synthetic fiber area rugs hanging on a vertical display that makes them easy to see. They can order them in multiple sizes and the price point for the quality is darned good. We're not in the market but if you are...worth a check in! c. The furnishings in store displays are the tip of the iceberg for what they have available in catalogs and manufacturer references and the staff would be happy to help you select what you need and order for you. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot for this strip mall location: 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Much improved inside under this new owner who has ample floor space clearance in almost all displays to meet ADA minimums. Parking in the strip mall lot still fails to meet the minimums of Federal ADA law and Idaho Accessibility Building Code (both in place for 26 years) but that is the mall owner's issue, not this store owner's.

Today I was shopping for a unique birthday gift for a friend. I finally settled on a colorful martini glass made in the Republic of Czechoslovakia, but the three red leather art-deco counter stools almost made it into my car. But mostly because the woman manning the store (yes, I did intend that to be a pun) didn't bother to ask if we were looking for anything or if she could help us. This in spite of the fact that there were only two other shoppers in the place, so not as if there was a crush. Given this is newly opened within the last several months, maybe they are still learning the customer care ropes. But they have a lot of competition in the area as resale stores go so one thinks they'd be interested in top notch help for both buyers and possible consigners. We were in for both reasons, actually. I'm shopping for accessories for particular home location. And I have a hand knotted, vegetable dyed, Pakistan originated, wool area rug that I'm hoping to consign. They did have some rolled rugs standing in the store, so it may be they would take mine. But since the person working there ignored us, only a cursory hello in response to my "hi" to her, I think I'll continue looking for both consignment and buying. Ending on a high note, the place is spotless and some of the accessory items look as if new. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Once you get in the door, the store is all on one floor with mostly ample clearances between items. But the parking lot here is another of many Boise area examples of parking that does not meet Federal ADA rules or Idaho Accessibility Building Code minimums. Neither for scope nor for design. However, that failure is the the strip mall owner's and not the store's. 3) NEIGHBOR: At the other end of the strip mall you'll find Model Home Furnishings which is recently under new ownership. You'll get a great welcome and helpful assistance from the women working there.

This Tuesday Morning is a go-to shopping spot for me. It's a place that takes time. By that, I mean…read moreyou don't want to run in here and expect to find what you need. There is reason to the layout, but like most stores of this ilk, you need to spend a minute to look over the items on the shelves to see what's in stock. The pleasure comes from the seeking and finding, so there needs to be time to do that. Otherwise, things can look jumbled and mismanaged here. Things I like: you can find some really great brands for a decent discount, the baby section can provide good gifts, and it's possible to find foodstuffs from Europe that are hard to find elsewhere. If you're looking for new pillows, they typically have a nice section. Items go on sale after a long while, so don't expect extra discounts on something you spy for months down the road, if it's still there. The store has a bit of a warehouse feel, so don't expect a lot of ambiance. But if you're looking for gifts and need to see something to know you want it, Tuesday Morning is a good hunting ground.

If TJ Maxx Home Goods store is Cinderella then this Boise Tuesday Morning store is the the ugly…read morestep-sister. It feels like one is sometimes playing shopping cart bumper cars in TJ Maxx Home Goods with other shoppers that include local interior designers cruising for good design items at value prices. But it feels like one could shoot a cannon off in the aisles of this Tuesday Morning and about 90% of the time not hit a living thing. That this location of discount, odd lots chain retailer Tuesday Morning is so little shopped is both inexplicable and understandable, all things considered. Not that one might make this a destination but if you're in the neighborhood it might be worth the pop in. THE GOODS There are good buys to be found here IF one knows what one is looking for and looking at for price point and quality. There is not the breadth of items to be found here as a TJ Maxx (a furniture piece or two here as opposed to many furniture options there) nor the depth of options within any given category (as example a handful of large framed mirrors or table lamps here as opposed to dozens of choices for each there). But there are good buys for some things. For example, Tuesday Morning has a contract with high end, luxury linens company Peacock Alley to sell their discontinued lines and colors. Most stores in the Tuesday Morning chain get some of these to sell. Depending on demographics some stores get more or less of these. In the Tuesday Morning in my old stomping ground in Bend (OR) there were typically dozens of Peacock Alley items including sheets, blankets, pillows, duvets and bed covers. This Boise store had but couple of handfuls of Peacock Alley items. But if you're in the market and willing to go back each week to see what might come in. They also have items here you might not find or find as many of at TJ Maxx. For example, they have multiple aisles of children's toys and "stuff". A very little girl today was excited to have found just the right lunchbox as her birthday gift. That children still recognize and use lunchboxes and can get excited over one in a pink princess motif made me smile in light of...well...everything. They also have things like gift bags and wrap, "fat quarters" of fabric (quilting folk will know what those are), scrap booking and craft paper supplies, kitchen tools, area rugs, woven baskets, plant pots, glassware, patio items, coffee table books (very few and you need to know where to look), cookies and candy bars, trays in assorted sizes and materials and different brands of paper wrapped soaps that even if you don't want to use them look and smell lovely(vetiver, anyone?) tucked a glass bowl or assembled on a tray in a bathroom...and the list goes on. Overall the quality of items here seem to trend middl to lower end. THE SERVICE The staff is super friendly and helpful and keep the store in good order and cleanliness. . They greet every customer with "Welcome in to the store!" and always ask at the end if you found all you were looking for. Very nice. THE RESTOCK DAY For this store trucks arrive on Tuesdays and merchandise is moved to floor by Wednesday they tell me. (Bend's staff reported deliveries at least twice a week.) THE MUSIC Seriously. I love the background music mix here. Today I got to sing along (well...almost) to Donovan and had to stop myself dancing along with Average White Band. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot that always has spaces. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking in lot. Level in from walkway through door. All on one level. Ample aisle space to meet ADA clearances makes is easy for all shoppers to have good and equal access. 3) NEIGHBORS: Asian Cuisine, a very good little restaurant, is "around the corner" of this same strip mall.

I have been shopping with Ethan Allen for over 10 years. The two main stores I used were corporate…read moreowned and in Scottsdale and Chandler Arizona. We moved to Boise last year and purchased about $7000 worth of furniture and this year about $3000 worth of art. We were not happy with two of the art pieces (which were about $700) and asked to return them. I was told I would be charged a 30% restocking fee and basically was advised by the designer "you should have used our free design services." We were told unceremoniously by the store manager they would not waive the $200 restocking fee regardless of how much we have spent at EA or planned to spend (had been looking at about $13k of additional purchases). What I have learned from this experience is a) don't purchase from this store as it is not corporately owned and you will not really receive a high level of customer service or grace. b) Stick to corporate stores like RH.com in Salt Lake, Utah or Pottery Barn (Boise) who do offer a high level of customer service. One of the reasons we shopped at EA was the excellent customer service we received in Arizona. The quality as some reviewers have discussed is not really any better than Pottery Barn particularly in their "wood" products. We purchased a 'teak' outdoor coffee table and two matching chairs (were going to buy the matching stools but will not be doing this now) and they are already 'chipping'. Good quality teak should not 'chip.' I agree with some of the reviews about poor customer service in store -- I found that up until you buy something the sales people in Boise are very attentive, after that good luck finding out when your product has arrived. Lead times for products are very long. I don't recommend purchasing from the Boise store. Unfortunately they just don't give you much leeway if you want to return something which is not the case at corporate stores. Let's face it sometimes you may think something will work in your home but it doesn't -- most stores allow returns with no penalty. RH is one store that excels at free returns even when it means shipping large items or picking them up. This experience with Ethan Allen Boise has unfortunately been strange and very negative -- the store/manager lost the sale of a $1500 (I cancelled a still in process piece after the debacle over the restocking fee) art piece and future purchases of $13k for a $200 restocking fee. I worry they may need the restocking fee more than the sale of furniture.

This review is about the Ethan Allen store but also is a 'fan letter' for talented interior…read moredesigner Val Hartl who is on staff there. Working with Val was as joy-filled an experience for professional interior design and home goods buying as we've had across the six cities we've lived in with eight homes among them where we worked with skilled independent interior designers. Rewarding for us too as Val guided our decisions for an update of our home office and in the process we discovered finishing touches of pillows and ottoman for our great room.  Also spirit lifting for us because Val made it easy and fun as she created design schemes to consider with options assembled for us to take home to look at in our spaces. The result is something that feels "...just like us only better..." in ways we could not have envisioned without her help.  Val's listening and communication skills are great as was her patience and good humor in dealing with a couple "at the end of their designer rope" by the time we walked in the showroom.  (In our defense, this was after dilly-dallying with an independent designer who across three months and several hundred dollars fee had delivered to us no usable result.)   It required only a couple of visits to the Ethan Allen design workroom in a week's time and with Val's creative guidance we had selections made and orders placed for area rug, chairs, upholstery fabrics, leather and even details, Val sees every detail, like finishing trims on custom pillows.   If I could still dance (we'll get back to this), I'd do a happy one.  FREE DESIGN SERVICE = PRICELESS:  Design service is free here and it is also priceless for homeowners to work with an experienced professional.  The drill at any Ethan Allen is when you walk in the person at the showroom desk will welcome you and if you don't have a designer appointment scheduled, they will call up a designer to offer as much or as little assistance as you want as you browse the store. You can call and schedule an appointment with Val, and we recommend it, but she assures us that all of her colleagues at the Boise store are great to work with if you walk in. BRAND / BUYING AUDIENCE:  Perched at the upside of mid-range or low side of up-range for price point with products for buyers across all ages and stages of home ownership from starting out to feathering family home nests to scaling down in empty nester mode and with styles from mid-Century to contemporary to transitional to classic. But Ethan Allen was not a brand we used much in other homes in cities where we lived and shopped furnishings in premium brands above this price point working with independent interior designers to make it easy to do given my limited mobility. (I have had multiple sclerosis since college days and umpteen decades later mobility and energy are both challenged and design professionals did the 'legwork', metaphorically and actually, to narrow down options.  There's the "if I could still dance..." tie in from opening.) Ethan Allen wasn't on their professional radar (the brand didn't offer incentives to 'the trade') and that means only occasionally was the brand on ours when buying on our own.  But limited access to quality furniture options in Boise led us to the Ethan Allen here in 2016 and the good product and customer care experience then led us back now. LOCAL STORE OWNERSHIP MAKES THE DIFFERENCE FOR CUSTOMER CARE:  This is one of very few Ethan Allen stores that are not corporate run but with local franchisee and the proof to customers of local ownership is sometimes in the pudding of problem resolution.  To share example from our 2016 experience when a handsome leather ottoman arrived with welt seaming problem the store offered apologies and immediately proposed the option of a leather tradesman fixing the seaming or having the item replaced.  We chose the latter and they let us use the original item while we waited on replacement to arrive.  Very nice. This kind of customer care supported by local ownership makes all the difference. If you have heard or read online of bad experiences with Ethan Allen service elsewhere, those are likely corporate run stores. Here local owner calls the shots. All good. ACCESSIBILITY: Accessible parking spaces alongside the building meet ADA standards. For the most part furniture in displays is spaced to maintain 36" clear as ADA requires - and is more comfortable for all shoppers. Loo is accessible. PARKING: Spacious, private lot, woohoo!
