The salon/beauty school is very well maintained and clean. I made an appointment for both my girls…read moreto do a full set of gel manicure and did not have any wait time and were serviced promptly. The owner Tanya took her time to understand our needs and what we really wanted and made sure her staff/ trainees were very informed. She monitored her trainees and taught them very well, her leadership shows in the way she works with her staff together both in a professional and yet friendly way.The nail technicians were very professional and maintained proper hygiene along with great care and consideration to what we asked for. We got our nails done with some art nail and were very satisfied with the results and would definitely suggest it to our family/friends. Looking forward to going there again.

While she was applying the tips and trying to file, it kept snapping off and it took 45 minutes before actually putting any acrylic powder. She starts on my right pinky and that finger takes 10 minutes alone. To apply acrylic powder on all fingers takes maybe an hour. Filing and drilling and buffing is what takes the most amount of time with maybe another hour. When she starts applying polish she does a pink color that's quite shear and only does two coats and the corners didn't get polish but she just put the designs on, put topcoat, and was done after a total of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Total was $30 (not including the file and buffer I had to pay for). I got what I payed for. When I got home I pulled up my comforter and TWO NAILS snapped off. FYI, this was 2 hours tops after I had paid. The next day, it was about 10 am and I slipped and landed on my finger tips, not the nails, and the vibrations broke 4 nails. By the end of the day, all nails were broken. People told me to apply press on nail glue but if it's acrylic it should last for 3-5 weeks

If you have the time, know exactly what you want, not afraid to speak up and want to save money…read morethen this is a great place to cone for a haircut with quality Aveda products. Make sure you have time because cuts here take 2-3 hours. I've been to this location 3 times and the quality varies with the student. I've had 2 good experiences and a bad one on my most recent hair cut . I'd still go back but not in the evening and I'd let the instructor know sooner if something is off. Booking- 5 stars- I've been to other Aveda Institutes for haircuts and the Portland location is the easiest to make appointments. Same day and walk ins are usually available whereas in SF, they would be booked a month in advance. Payment- 4 stars- They have a punch card where you can get a free haircut after 3 haircuts. Haircut prices start at $10 for newer students but they don't break down the pricing by levels so you may be surprised and pay $20 instead and you can't choose which level student you want. Staff- 2 stars- The staff is supposed to supervise the students and ensure they're doing the correct cuts. But they are way understaffed on supervisors especially in the evenings and they don't seem to care much either. They should be providing better help to students who are cutting hair of real customers. My student was clearly clueless and not ready to cut a paying customer. The instructor should have watched her for a few minutes to ensure she was doing the mask and cut correctly before taking off. In the end they do check the cut and in my case the instructor fixed it but only cause she wanted to go home. Haircut- varies 1 to 4 stars- Depends on the level of the student. Tell them exactly what you want and don't be afraid to interject and correct them. My last haircut here, the student made so many mistakes from doing the scalp mask in the wrong order twice, starting with the wrong way to cut my hair (cutting the face framing pieces first instead of cutting the hair to one length), cutting the sane strands over and over. I'm very glad I corrected her. Also I like they they have evening hours and are open til 9 Tues-Thurs but I recommend not coming in the late evening, specifically past 7 as both the instructs and students are tired, there are less instructors available, and they rush you. I was very rushed on my last appointment and had to leave with wet hair. Products- 4 stars, Aveda products are quality products but expensive and I hate when they try to sell them to you during the haircut.

I cannot believe they let students graduate with the lack of knowledge they end up having here…read more They don't know how to cut anything other than young white people's hair. Also incredibly unprofessional looking and acting student students.

Aveda Institute Portland - This hack job is what I walked out with. I asked for TWO inches off and a trim. I left with a mess and over half my hair chopped off.

So awesome the customer tells the "artist" and they BLAME THEM. She used a phone app to figure out my brow shape and outline... that's not how it's done. I went home and tried to peel the pigments out. Once after I healed and waited months on a list to see a reputable girl in Vancouver WA to flush the pigments and also had to wait for them to fade. That was 1800 for four sessions. I then went without corrected brows for two years and paid 1200 again. And I will tell you both girls tell me they always have to correct her work and I am not the first person to see them for corrections. So if you want terrible brows she's the one to see , if you need them corrected message me I know where to go get them fixed. If you want to see my best friend who does a way better job than her for just double the price and she's an actual artist message me I'll provide contact info. The only thing I see this gal do a good job on is lashes for the price from photos and others who have seen her. But for brows she's not your gal,

I have been doing my eyelash extensions with Martha for 6 months now. Originally I was going to do…read morethe lashes for my trip and not keep them, but once I met Martha I fell in love with her work. When I first saw Martha, she did a consultation to examine my face and to work out the best look for me. She involved me in that process so I immediately felt her dedication to make me very happy with the result. She does the same for every new client, which shows a very high degree of professionalism and her true care for the new clients - Martha always does everything to make sure only the best results are achieved. While applying extensions, Martha is very careful and very thorough. She literally goes lash by lash, it's amazing. She cares about hygiene, which is very important to me. Her salon is very cozy and clean, and she keeps a little snack for those of us who never have enough time. There have been times when I texted Martha with questions and she aways got back to me within short amount of time. She does a great job on accommodating my busy schedule. I would not go see another lash artist, there is not a better one than Martha around here. Her work product is beautiful, and her personality is very caring and fun, while professional at the same time. P.S. I get harassed daily with questions about my lashes. Anywhere I go, women want to know if the lashes are really mine (they look that natural) and if not, WHO DOES THEM? Thank you Martha, you are an amazing talent!!! Lucky to have you here in PDX.

Watercoloring, baking bread, making candles, learning beautiful songs and stories that celebrate the seasons and encourage connection to nature are just a handful of things that make up the daily rhythm. Most of all, we feel grateful that the majority of time at school is spent outside with exceptionally kind and inclusive teachers and children. We love being part of the co-op and her education. It's rare to find a place where children are not only supported, but truly seen--and that's exactly what Ms. Melynda and Ms. Erika bring to this community. They bring such kindness, compassion, and a sense of magic to every day. The gentle, Waldorf-inspired traditions--seasonal songs, nature stories, and rhythmic routines--create a warm, grounding environment the children absolutely thrive in. There is plenty of time and space for free play, and it's incredible to see how creative and imaginative the kids become in an outdoor classroom without toys. Nature provides everything they need. They teach respect for animals, plants, and all living things in the most natural, heartfelt ways. A bug rescue, a quiet moment under a tree, or caring for the forest together becomes part of how the children learn to move through the world with empathy and wonder. We feel incredibly grateful for this community and these teachers who make the forest feel like a second home for our child. Highly highly recommend!
