Then I found out about Garage2u. Garage2u is a mobile mechanic. They come to your house (or wherever your car is) and fix it right there. They have all the tools that they need. In my case he worked on my car in the driveway. It couldn't have been easier. And it couldn't have been more cost effective. Way less than half of what the garage wanted. And it passed inspection! Oh and get this. Dan (the mechanic) called me two days later to follow up and make sure that everything was ok with the car. Show me another mechanic that does that! I was able to get an appointment within a week and the price was reasonable. I drive by a few times a week and the lot is always full, plus I've seen some foreign cars there, so I figured it would be an okay place. I WAS WRONG! It was like they had never seen a VW before in their lives. All kinds of questions and random suggestions about my suspension, sway bars, etc. (all OEM suspension parts, by the way.) They finally settled on the decision that I needed new brakes (pads and rotors) to pass inspection. I requested that they put drilled and slotted rotors on (this is OEM for my car) and they asked "Why on earth I would want to pay for that?" I replied that those parts were stock for my car and because it was a performance vehicle, I appreciated the extra braking power. First they told me that if that's really what I wanted, I would have to order them myself (even though the rotors I requested are standard on my vehicle - not aftermarket.) I agreed, then they got frustrated and said "Nevermind - we'll just pass you." Umm...brakes are kind of important!! A few weeks later I took my car to my regular shop for a once-over. They said the brakes were completely fine and did not need to be replaced - certainly not the rotors either. I don't want to speculate, but it really seems like they were either 1. taking advantage of my perceived stupidity because I'm a woman, 2. had some extra VW parts laying around that they needed to pawn off on someone, or 3. figured a brake job would be an easy way to pad an otherwise cheap appointment. Either way, steer clear.

The guy working the front desk was super nice and helpful and even spoke to my Dad on the phone. I took it out for a drive - all my transmission fluid leaked out! Took it to an auto shop for them to look at and they said my transmission lines needed replaced. About $450. But they couldn't do the work, they had to take it to AZ transmission. Well, it got shipped over to AZ Transmission. They ordered the lines, were about to put them in, but then looked at the transmission to make sure THAT was working fine - NOPE. Transmission was already ruined! Tim called me up, told me what he discovered, basically that my transmission was ruined and he didn't to waste my money putting the lines on when they would be useless. Ended up just selling the car without the transmission - but Tim was so honest and took care of me. He could've screwed me over but didn't. If I ever need transmission work I'll go to this shop in a heartbeat.
