Well they changed their name and brought in Pepsi so if you've been coming here for years there's some things that are different. I didn't have any problems with the service everyone was polite and welcoming. From the old pictures not much has changed inside, they painted over the walls so the Carolina Diner isn't there on the wall anymore. Food is really good in my opinion. I had a sausage egg and cheese on a biscuit with a side of bacon bc I wanted to try more of the things for a more comprehensive review, also had some home fries. As my friend had told me "we're in biscuit country" (I was thinking of bagels for breakfast) he was right. I did not see high ratings on this site for this restaurant, so I took a chance and went in. The staff was very friendly and my omelette was absolutely delicious! The home fries were amazing, just like the waitress said they would be. Very happy I got my food from there today when I was traveling from Asheville to Morganton for a photo shoot. Very pleased and still taking home leftovers because the portions were large. Definitely recommend! read more

Service is awful. The place is forever dirty. I've tried, repeatedly. They do make a good egg. There's really good potential, if they clean up their dining room, utensils, friendliness of the staff and their food handling habits. Their patty melt would be perfect if it didn't ooze grease. The temp is always right, the flavor is good, and their onions are cooked perfectly; it literally just oozes grease down your hands. Everything is sticky, tacky, scary to touch. Even when the staff are friendly, getting greeted and being tended to (regardless of how many people are present) is just...it's like being non existent until they feel like it. The iced tea leaves a lot, A LOT, to be desired. And, we're in the south. Items are well priced. The old school diner feel is there.. Just needs a bit of TLC and some actual attention to cleanliness (and timely attention to customers). read more

This spot used to be "it" but in Morganton, breakfast sitdown places are limited. Well I guess the folks at CD know this because I've had better service about anywhere else I've been. The waitress (who I have no idea how she has worked here for so long because her personality is about as much as a wet noodle,) never spoke to us and finally no exaggeration 50 minutes later (after waiting 10 Minutes to be sat, which we had to do ourselves) we got our food. I understand being busy, but when you don't even seem to care I get aggravated. The food smelled great, but we never got to taste it. The waitresses totally ignored us, and served ten families who came in AFTER us. We sat there for fifteen minutes while the staff walked past us repeatedly, and totally ignored us while eagerly rushing to serve everyone else. After about 15 minutes of no service while everyone who came in after us were being served their food, we got up to leave. At this point, I thought surely one of the waitresses would ask why we were leaving, or explain that while they hadn't served us yet, they would get to us as soon as possible. But that didn't happen. Two looked us right in the eyes as we walked to the door, and one seemed relieved we were leaving. Not sure why. We were dressed well enough for a diner, no body odor, we weren't rude, no loud talk, we weren't causing a scene, no profanity... Heck, I even joked with one of the waitresses before I sat down, and she seemed friendly. I'm not sure why we were treated like that, but there are several people who reviewed Carolina Diner on Google, and they reported they were also completely ignored, and left without getting to eat. This shows it's not a one time incident, but happens frequently. I don't know why we weren't served, as the waitresses never provided an explanation, but I will not go back, and I can not recommend it to others, even if the food does smell good. read more

Very solid diner. Breakfast is a great bargain! I had eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, a biscuit and coffee. The hash browns were excellent- crispy on the outside. The bacon was okay, it did not have much flavor. The biscuit was very good- slightly crispy on the outside, hot and fluffy on the inside. We also had dinner there. They did a great job with my patty melt and onion rings. The rings are large and had the nice, smooth batter (like tempura or beer batter). From my brother, the country fried steak was a miss. It was pre-breaded in a boring crumb breading. We suspect it was shipped frozen and warmed up at the restaurant. In the south, you have to come through big on a dish like country fried steak. It should be a show piece. Carrot cake was very good, not too sweet on the icing. The cake had good density. Overall, more hits than misses. Very solid restaurant- stick to breakfast, burgers and desert. read more
