I love Caroline's Jazz Club. At this point I've been twice and had a fantastic time both times. They do require a cover. I can't remember how much it cost the first time but the second time it was $13. I think that's a fair price for the show you get. If you want to make a reservation call ahead. I would suggest it but the bar seems like a suitable option as well. So far my favorite night was when Paul Spencer and band was playing because they had 5 people playing and they even played Steely Dan. Caroline's is such a traditional, classy, and unique spot to check if you love live music! My friends and I have gone a few times now and always have the best time listening to the jazz bands. It is fairly loud inside (as to be expected) but just as an fyi. The cover fee is typically $12 per person at the door- staff does such a wonderful job at assisting you in finding seating and making you feel very welcomed in. One of my favorite cocktails is the midnight oil which is a spin on an espresso martini. It's fairly sweet but balances well with the cold brew. Our wait staff has always been very efficient and kind which we appreciate! This place is out of a scene from a movie! I took my mom and family friend here for drinks and jazz and we could not get over how close we were to the live music and loved our drinks. I got the Midnight Oil martini which was vodka, simple syrup, and Anodyne cold brew. Our server was quick and attentive when we were ready for another drink. This dimly lit, jazzy bar is definitely a good spot for people of all ages who want to get a little dressed up and go out on the town. We ended up here on a whim during a night out for our anniversary. We met a couple friends out and were pleasantly surprised. This was the first jazz club I have been to, and I would definitely visit again. The drinks were really good and priced well. Our waiter was attentive, coming to get new drink orders at the perfect time. I am used to the type of seating because it is very similar to a comedy club, however, it is a bit hard to get in and out of your seat if you need to and the area to wait for restrooms is a bit of a tight squeeze. We loved our first experience at Caroline's Jazz Club! We had never been before and knew it was a venue that filled up, so we planned to get there right when the door opened. I read on their facebook page that you can call to make a reservation. We left a voicemail with our name and number of people in our party and when we arrived, Caroline had a table ready for us. There was a $12 cover at the door and they do not have food, but allow you to bring your own food in. Larry, who was working the door, gave us chocolates for his birthday! The entire staff was SO KIND. The drink prices were not on the menu but glasses of wine were $8, an old fashioned was $12, and a French 75 was $10, so overall very affordable. It was a packed house on a Saturday night. The group closer to the stage was quieter and listening and the bar crowd was a little louder. They were definitely speaking at a volume that was borderline impolite during a musical performance, but the staff seemed to be aware and mitigated anything that needed to be taken care of. The music was a little louder from where we were sitting which can take a toll on your ears a bit, but all of the musicians were extremely talented and impressive! I would say 2-4 people would be a sweet spot for party size, and definitely call ahead and make a reservation if you have more! read more

A great place to catch some stellar jazz. Been here for NYE 2 years now. The staff is phenomenal, the band is always playing so well, and the drinks are nice and I believe all were about $11. There is usually a small cover charge on regular nights that's usually around $12. (NYE is $25 with a complementary champagne toast). I recently attended a show here with BF and friends. We were greeted at the door warmly and were able to pay the cover charge with cash, or for those who never have cash, with a card. We were offered a cozy high top table in the corner, which suited us well. This place is pretty tiny, so there's not really any bad seats. Service was warm and we were checked on often. The sound was excellent and we enjoyed the live music. The drinks were expensive and frankly pretty bad. I had a Manhattan, which weirdly tasted of nothing but water. Went there on a busy Saturday night- found two open spots at the bar after standing and waiting for one to open for about an hour. As I went to sit a lady started to clean off the glasses from that spot and told me not to sit there and to sit with my party in the back. I told her I wasn't with that party and my friends are actually at the bar next to the open spots. She again told me to sit at the table in the back with my group which again, I did not know them. A few seconds later two others come and sit in those spots immediately and she just lets them- not apologizing or offering those spots back to me. The staff are amazing. The door person is the kindest and most friendly person there and if you come more than once he def remebers you. It's table service for drinks at a table and they will try to set you and your group if possible. Come early on a busy night and you should be set. I usually am able to sit near the front. Ppl dress casual here but it's also a fun place to dress up and look cute. The jazz bands here are V perky and they know how to man a crowd. The drinks are good and the staff are good at making sure you're checked in on. The only con is on a busy night you might not have space for a larger group. I'm from Chicago and love live music and a beautiful atmosphere with music lovers with appreciation for the art behind ALL of it. Sad I didn't know about this place sooner. So just for a heads up - there is a cover. $12 per person to enter. Great jazz music. Loved the band. great craft drinks. There is open seating and some reserved towards the front. They have an open bar where anyone can sit. There were a few groups but not more than about 6 people, but in sure they could accommodate for more. Staff was super nice and checked on us frequently. If you're on a date or with a group I would advise calling ahead to reserve spot. I got a French 75 and it was awesome! Would recommend. The live jazz at Caroline's was on my must-see list while in town for the Thanksgiving holiday. The service was on point from beginning to end despite my ever-growing crowd. The ambiance was good and Caroline herself made the rounds to ensure comfort and satisfaction. Although they don't serve food, they're able to order from restaurants that utilize the delivery services. A neat concept I suppose as an alternative, but we didn't need to take them up on the offer as we'd eaten before the show. The band was good and live music is always great. I look forward to returning as a party of 4 instead of 15. Much more conducive to a relaxed atmosphere. read more

9:30 music starts. I LOVE Caroline's. So bad! A true shiny, rough-edged beautiful gem in Walkers Point. Just how I like my places. Did I enjoy my time there? Yes Would I go back? Yes Would I take friends? Yes and done and yes. My only constructiveness is to get the bar to that kind of expertise level of cocktail glass sizes and prices then it would be killer, but it's already pretty killer now. The stage is very close. The proximity lends itself to storytelling rather than watching performers on a pedestal. Also I like the mix of young and old. Very much recommend. read more

My husband and I went with our son and his fiancé after dinner on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. They recently moved to Milwaukee and we were in town to see their new home. When we arrived at Caroline's I wasn't sure we would get in, but the doorman took good care of us, showing us multiple spots where there were seats. The musicians were rocking' and the crowd was just as energized. We sat at the back of the bar so we could observe, but next time, we want to get closer to the live band. It was fabulous, they treated us like family, the drinks were great and reasonably priced, the service excellent and not pushy, and the cover was $12! It reminded us of The Green Mill, our old haunt in Chicago. I just wished they were more quiet at the bar while the music was playing, but next time we'll sit closer to the musicians. Our first time here was yesterday and we loved the place. They have a very cozy and unique seating space and we wanted to explore the jazz scene so we came here. They have both blues and jazz here at this bar. Unfortunately we reached around 8 and the Jazz was beginning at 9.30pm that night and we weren't planning to stick around for so long so we had to leave right before the show. We did however sit at the bar and enjoy a drink and enjoyed our time there. My husband had a beer and I ordered a Butterscotch Martini which was delicious. I had never had that flavor so was excited to try it and it was amazing! I am sure it was loaded with calories but I loved it anyway :) our server at the bar told us that the butterscotch flavor was his own product which was awesome to know. He even showed us the bottle! We are thrilled to have discovered a new place to explore and will definitely be returning, and this time we will stay for the live music :) oh btw they have a $5 cover fee. read more

I feel so bad writing this review as we were excited to go based on the other reviews we read. We went to Caroline's on Friday night 9/22 and the service was literally awful. It took over 30 minutes to get one drink, which then tasted terrible. Bartenders were just talking behind the bar, no one seemed to know what was going on, it's a tiny space so it made no sense to us. Hopefully it was just an off night but unfortunately our experience was the worst. read more

What a delight! I've been trying to come to Caroline's for awhile now and I can happily say that I left feeling elated! I went here on a Friday around 8:45 and got a table with some friends. Our server, Max was the best! He was helpful when recommending drinks, quick with service and overall a friendly guy. The live music began around 9 and we ended up staying until 1. It's a fun spot and it is very easy to lose track of time in here. Make sure to check out their website to see who is playing and what times the shows are. This would be a fun spot even if there wasn't any live music, but the music will definitely make it better. I cannot wait to come back here time and time again! read more

We were immediately greeted by the best doorman, Larry, and seated in what felt like the best seat in the house! Initially we were seated nearer to the stage but after exactly 20 seconds elected to move to the bar once seats opened up. I'm with Stephanie L on this! Cabaret table or bar nearer the back of the room is where it's at if you'd like to converse AND enjoy the music. So great live jazz, awesome old-school venue (same building as Soup Bros and Philly Way) and a varied, interesting, and somewhat older crowd. A few recs for Caroline's, because I like the place a lot and would love to see more people patronize this unique MKE business, then... 1. Have a list of what's available! Just a list of your available beverages would be enough... beers on tap, wines offered, and the varieties of alcohol you stock. I had a really hard time ordering because the bottles were all grouped together and not readily visible. Additionally, it can get loud, so it would help in that regard too. 2. Have a few "craft" or classic cocktails available on a list to make things easy? 3. A few updates on lighting, décor... but nothing crazy. Maybe just keep it classic and ditch some of the more dated elements/dim the lights behind the stage? And yeah, that's it. That's all.
