The shop keeper was funny I thought she heard me say bathroom not bat room. I checked it out and it has a smell similar to the Old Tunnel on the way to Fredericksburg for a moment I felt that I am out in nature. The entrance is full of birds I stood there for over 5 minutes. They look very comfortable and seem they are fed and taken care of. If you are a bird lover this place is definitely for you

But…read moremore disappointed in what I find is lack of customer service & quite possibly even morale, if I may explain: a couple of summers ago I remember stopping in & browsing. When I was looking at the hair & bath products to the left of the register, I over heard what I assume is the owner, and a customer, talking about shooting at squirrels with a BB gun when they would go for the bird feeder. I was flabbergasted. And horrified. I wanted to write a review & even send a letter to express my dismay but I didn't want to disparage a small business. So I decided to just not support any more. Time went by & as I grew with forgiveness, I ended up coming back to not only buy the usual premium blend bird seed, but have brought out-of-towner friends & family in which they purchased things from there, as well as greeting cards for others on special occasions. Fast forward to today, I went in to get the usual, but I was greeted by an unfamiliar face, as I had always dealt with what I am assuming is the owner. She was as sweet as a button. I really regret not getting her name. When she offered help, I told her I wanted the premium w the $7 price point, she grabbed it & I was ready to pay. She then asked "are you in our books?" I was puzzled at first, assuming maybe it's regular customers that buy large quantities for big properties. Nope. It was like a reward system where if you buy 10 bags you get 1 free. Are you kidding me?! She was even kind enough to record my last sale to count twds the free bag. I was not once ever unpleasant twds the owner. If anything, we had friendly small talk upon check out in the handful of times I've purchased from them. So not too sure why this was never offered to me. I always give the benefit of the doubt so it's rather difficult for me to think it just slipped her mind every time when you seem to run the show.

Figured it was an off day and came again for another gift and they flat out dismissed me. Always try to support small business but I'll avoid shopping here and mention that to others. No value in a store if the people don't see you as equals.

I always visit when I am back in the area, and today was my second visit in 2 years. Eva was on site and she is always willing to work with you for a sale. She has a nice indoor shop with a good variety of antiques and vintage. She likes to stock quality finds and it shows! Outside are some great yard art offerings and other kitschy stuff. I bought a metal cactus and a rusty roadrunner art piece, both made in Mexico. Eva offered them at 20% off! Those are going to my southwest loving mom back east There are several other buildings with offerings from vintage kitchen items to huge wooden store display pieces. I purchased a Royal Doulton figurine and the price was so good that when I saw this same item later today in another store, I paid 50% less and 75% less at Eva's. A little bisque doll head she gave me at 50%. Years ago I took a furniture item I bought from Eva to the Antiques Roadshow. The Keno brothers assessed its value at just over what Eva priced it so she knows the true value of what she has and she isn't jacking up the price. Eva buys all over the country so she brings the best variety to her Hill Country shop but stays true to the tastes of customers shopping in the Texas Hill Country. There were 3 buildings that had different items. The first had a lot of plates, soap and some cabinets and things. Outback there is another room that had some chicken feeders, and other more vintage items and the final building had all the awesome cabinets and furniture items. Behind this there is also a bistro with a little garden. We didn't go to that but the rest of the place was nice. We didn't leave with anything but anyone getting the wooden furniture out back will like what they see.

Okay, maybe you can get chocolate covered strawberries in San Antonio, but there's something about this cute little town and candy store that make the trip to Comfort worthwhile. Also, if you go there around Easter time, they make the best Easter cookies! We had gotten them one year and were disappointed the next year because they didn't have them, (they were going to have them finished the next day). The owner was so sweet she actually gave me the recipe, though I've never been able to duplicate their goodness. One note, it's Comfort...they don't keep the best hours.
