I rent an apartment from carpenter village and told them the called the rental and property manger a few times about upstairs neighbors being really loud throwing the ball all night waking up my children. pleasant To speak to but never called me back. Overall the apartments itself are nice you can raise a small family there , nice pool to use in the summer, and balcony off the bedroom is great, nice views BUT depending where you are located . I was in building 3 towards the rental office . Kaitlyn the previous property manager was nice in the beginning but as time went on she became unprofessional and by the 3rd year there Debbie replaced her. Debbie is a rental manager at the Guilderland location. She is extremely unprofessional and degrading. I think she is related to the owner because she has an entitlement personality. She very confrontational and cannot speak well. Where do they get their staff. SMHD! I was living their property; they tried inflating the cost to prevent returning my security deposit. Carpenter Village has awful management that does not value you as a tenant. I lived in buildings 3 (older building) and 10 (newer building) during my time at Carpenter Village. Building 3 ($1,015/month) had paper thin walls, and you could clearly hear conversations, shouting, dogs, and more intimate late night adult noises from neighbors. It is also a smoking building, which management won't tell you until you've moved in. Building 10, while newer, has less of a noise problem. Building 10 was $1,115/month. The main issue in building 10 is that the features are cheap and easily broken. During my time in building 10, the following things have broken and required repairs: Heat (Regularly would not turn on - thermostat was set to 68 degrees, and the actual heat as per the thermostat display was in the low 60s. Not very good for New York winters) AC (Also would not work, despite being turned on) Garbage disposal (Leaked and damaged my belongings beneath the sink) Sliding doors (Fell off of the tracks they were supposed to slide on) Lock for the apartment door (Installed poorly initially; the deadbolt scraped into the hole in the doorjam, and made for a very difficult time locking the door) Bathroom fan (Made a horrible grinding noise instead of being a fan) Shower (Water kept gushing out of the faucet, despite the handle being turned off. This was an off-hours emergency, as the water began to flood the bathroom. The woman who answered the off-hours phone was very rude, as if receiving a phone call: i.e., her job, was an inconvenience) Fireplace (Smoke backed up into the apartment, despite the flue being completely open) Dishwasher (Installed poorly into the cabinets, fell off, and needed to be resecured) Toilet (Installed loosely, made a loud clang noise every time it was sat upon) I became on a first-name basis with the maintenance team here. They are why this apartment complex gets one star and not zero stars. Please look elsewhere for apartment living. This place is not recommended at all. read more

I just ended a two year stay at Carpenter Village, and if it weren't for outside factors, I certainly would have been happy there much longer. The location is wonderful, the staff is extremely friendly and the apartment was spacious, clean and well taken care of. The best part is that they not only allow dogs, but knew my pet's name and were so kind to her in every interaction. When there was a small fire in my building, they knew she was there and made sure that she was safe and taken care of until I got home. Additionally, the building was cleaned and aired out quickly and safely. The complex is close enough to be convenient to Albany and all major highways in the area, but is set off the street and is very quiet and pleasant to come home to. A wonderful place that I would solidly recommend to anyone! read more

The apartments are in poor condition and upper management is rude and apathetic. First, we resided in Building 3, which we found out after we moved in, is a smoking building notorious for noise problems. The walls were so thin, we could hear our neighbors' conversations. Below us, we heard a dog barking all morning and day. Acknowledging that such a level of noise was unacceptable, Carpenter Village allowed us to move to Building 10, for an increase in rent up to $1,115 (even though we went from a two bedroom to a one bedroom with a den). Sure, Building 10 is quieter, but EVERYTHING has broken. When we first moved in, the apartment had not been cleaned. We found food under the bed and in the cabinets. Our AC broke in the summer, and our heat randomly stops working. Our garbage disposal broke and leaked into everything we stored under the kitchen sink, the shower faucet broke and the water would not turn off, and the bathroom fan does not work. As a result, the bathroom and the area surrounding it are quick to smell of mildew. The apartment has a fireplace, which looks nice, but it must be clogged; our apartment filled with smoke and set off the fire alarm the one time we used it. The toilet is not affixed to the wall, and all bifold doors in the apartment have fallen off their track at least once. Also, there is a small washer and dryer in the building, but each machine costs $1.50 and one dryer doesn't work. So we generally end up paying $4.50 per small load of laundry. I've lived in several rental communities in the capital region, and this apartment complex is by far the most expensive AND has the worst apartments. read more

I have lived at here now for 2 years, and it's a great place to live. The staff here is great, and any problem you may have gets fixed quickly. Everyone is very friendly and helpful as well, including neighbors. The complex is very safe, as well as convenient to all things you may need. The renting manager Susan is wonderful as well. She knew me by name, as well as my dog. She was always friendly and attentive to any problem I have had, and addressed it promptly. She is the best renting manager, and is great at her job. The dog community here is great as well, many people have dogs. My dog likes it as well, and a great opportunity for your pup to stay socialized! There plenty of yard space for them as well. This is over all a great place to live, and I highly recommend to move here. read more

I recently moved from Carpenter Village to take advantage of a great opportunity. I lived there 3 years and can say it is clean, well cared for and a very friendly community. The office and maintenance staffs are friendly and respond quickly to any problems . The apartments are quiet and one of few pet friendly places that isn't run down - the grounds are well maintained as well I was very sorry to leave and would not hesitate to move back . So, when I first moved out to Albany I had my very first apartment at Carpenter Village. It was a great space, and room for my little dog to run around, never had any issues and the property manager was always really helpful and friendly, her name was Linda, she got stuff done if it needed to be done. After a year Linda was gone and things started to go down hill. The person replacing her was not very friendly, and didn't seem to care, after a few months she was replaced and another person took over who wasn't much better. Things took longer to get fixed and people started moving out. Fast forward to 3 years after moving in and the person in charge was yet another person. I suddenly had late fees popping up on my bills, I couldn't get anything fixed, no one was returning my phone calls. And I wasn't the only one getting frustrated. That summer at least a dozen people were leaving. Finally the day I move out, the property manager forgot about my appointment and was 20 minutes late, shows up doesn't bother to apologize and starts accusing me of damages that were clearly marked as pre-existing on the form that was filled out when I first moved in, and doesn't even have the decency to call me by my correct name after I had been living there for 3 years. A few months later I finally get my security deposit back, not even half of what I originally paid and a list of damages that I did not do and were not talked about in the final walk thru. So if you want to move into a place that doesn't care about you or your satisfaction in your apartment, and you don't mind being neglected, insulted, and ignored and you just want to have your money stolen from you; Carpenter Village is your ideal place. If you don't want any of those things I suggest you look at any other property not owned by Albany Management. Because the people in charge don't give a crap either. read more

I lived here for a year and I do not have enough nice things to say about the complex. The management is great and the tenants are very nice. I have stayed in other area apartments and they do not compare to this one. The location is quiet and the dog owners are very respectful. It is the best place in the area for dog owners! That was copy and pasted straight off the Albany Management website. 100% Lies- I have never been more unsatisfied living in an apartment complex as I have here. Any concerns or issues you may have go in one ear and right out the other. Not entirely sure what the staff does around here all day other than blow leaves and dirt all over the cars in the parking lot. Phone calls are never returned and paperwork is always conveniently lost. For example the electricity was not put in my name for over three months because Carpenter Village told me I owed National grid money, I was never notified that there was an issue until I started pressing the office about not having a bill. They finally told me I owed them $350 for electricity they had paid for. Upon speaking to National Grid I found this was wrong and they advised me NOT to pay the $350 dollars CV had apparently shelled out to cover the electricity and that they would reimburse them. read more

If I could give them less than a star I would. Previous management in the front office was great then once they pushed her out and got Stephanie everything went down the gutter . They are never in the office to answer questions or to take care of things in the apartments that need to be fixed! Living here two years and our apartment is still not up to code and they see no reason to answer a call about this issue but require you to have insurance although the apartments are not safe. We have lived here for almost 2 years and just recently started having a problem. Trying to talk to management about anything results in them making unprofessional remarks to the tenants and hanging up the phone. Stephanie does not know how to run an apartment complex and the management above her will just try and cover her tracks. They have on multiple occasions lied to the tenants about actions they have taken in order to cover for them selfs. I would not suggest renting from such unprofessional women. They will do whatever they want when they want and then try and cover it up. For such a beautiful complex it is not worth the expensive rent and immature management. read more

We are building a new home and sold our previous home in 10 days so we needed to find a place to live in the interim. We have been impressed by how meticulous they keep the grounds. You see staff members working on them every day. They are also very responsive when I call the office. For something as minor as an outside light out, they changed it the same day. Susan, the apartment manager, has always been very pleasant and helpful, as has the entire staff. The apartment is clean and most importantly, we were able to bring Buddy, our dog. Susan greets him by name when I take him for walks on the complex grounds, that are very tree-lined and nice for dog- walking. The only reason I did not give it a 5-star is because to keep the grounds so beautiful, they hire an outside lawn company to periodically come in and spray pesticides for weeds. They spray the entire complex in one day and put up little flags warning to keep pets and humans off the lawn. There is no where to take your dog out. I was told to take Buddy to the public streets, which is fine during the day, but not at night. Otherwise, a great place to live! read more

I have lived in Carpenter Village for almost a year, and let me tell you pay attention to the bad reviews and DONT LIVE HERE STAY FAR AWAY !!!. Lets see from beginning I had issues started with my unit not being ready for my move in date and I had to wait living in a furnished one bedroom unit with my small child for 2 weeks. Finally when we did move into our 2 bedroom basement unit had issues. My sons room had no power to the outlets and he went for 4 months without being able to plug anything in for lighting before finally got fixed. Not to mention I have been staring at disgusting unpainted previous tenants nasty moldy and rusty bathroom ceiling for entire time, still not painted. The air-conditioning unit leaked and destroyed the carpet and, my sons closet contents, and my dresser bottoms. We had ant, spider and roach infestation. And even had ants in winter !!!!! I hope you like pot, bc the neighbors smoke it on regular basis and our unit constantly reeks!!!! Also the heating sucks, winter comes and all you can feel is cold air coming in from the windows and doors, be prepared turn it up to 80 and still be cold!!!!! The buildings are so old and poorly renovated its awful. The rental manager Tethany Johnson loves to gossip and spread your personal business around to new tenants and current residents. Also never call them off hours or on the weekend you will not be helped, they just don't care!!! I hope you like stepping in dog poop bc the residents don't not clean up after their dogs and its a common thing here. Also don't plan on swimming in the pool its not cleaned well and there is never a life guard on duty and if they fill it they use a garden hose making unbearable when or if you can swim in it. Oh and I hope you like knowing that kids are having you know what behind the pool or adults cheating on their respective spouses in front of the tennis courts and in the parking lots, its common occurrence and I actually called the Guilderland PD to report one such incident. Not mention had to walk by a used condom on the front lawn!!!! Its disgusting, filthy, not family friendly and very noisy!!!! Heed my warnings and rent somewhere else bc you're going to end up paying for garbage!!! No customer service, unprofessionalism , obnoxious loud neighbors, drugs etc. Its just been awful and I cannot wait to move out !!!!!!!!!!! read more
