Brand new carpet being unrolled in the middle of the street unprotected.

Our experience with Carpet Exchange was absolutely horrible. We thought the savings were too good to be true and we were right. The installation was a nightmare. Their installers were unprofessional, did not take pride in their work, and did not care about our carpet or our property. Removal of the old carpet seemed to go OK but then as soon as they were prepping for the new carpet install everything started going wrong. They decided rather than replacing the old tack strips they would install parallel (side by side) strips to all the existing tack strips. We stopped them when we saw what they were doing and had to call the installation manager to correct the process. The installation manager came out and then argued with us about the installation and about replacement of the tack strips. She even stated that the old strips were far superior to the new tack strips and they leave the old ones as they're "better quality." Apparently, you can spend $8500 on carpet and installation but not expect them to replace old worn out tack strips. They had the nerve to then charge us an extra $50 just for the strips. Very tacky. The installers then begrudgingly replaced all the tack strips and installed the pad. Seemed everything was going better at this point until they started getting the new carpet ready. The installers decided that it would be best to unroll and cut our brand new carpet in the middle to the street. I went out to see what they were doing and found the new carpet covered in dirt, rocks, and leaves. Thousands of dollars in carpet being unrolled in the middle of a public street without protection. They, of course, took offense to being called out on this and the head installer told everyone to stop working and called them all out to the street. Another call to the installation manager had to be made to get work going again and to have the installers unroll some of the old carpet in our driveway to protect the new carpet as it was unrolled and cut. Apparently, this is what they were supposed to be doing in the first place and the installation manager didn't believe us when we called. Of course, the new carpet still made its way into the house with debris and we had to check and clean off the carpet ourselves. The installers thought this was all funny and made jokes and comments about us in Spanish thinking we didn't understand. Once the entire nightmare was over, the carpet seemed OK but we found nails and pieces of tack strips in all the floor vents, found tack strips and old carpet pad thrown in our basement and hidden in our closet, and found the floor vent holes cut crooked and uneven. For days we were stepping on and picking staples and small nails out of the carpet. They even wound up in our dogs paws. Absolutely horrible. There was zero follow up after our experience even from the sale rep that specifically said he'd call afterwards. I would never repeat business with Carpet Exchange and would never recommend them. Don't bother with any savings you may think you're getting as the frustration and headache will be more costly.

I would not recommend this company…read more I chose them because the scope I discussed with the account manager included replacing my flooring and installing a new vanity I had already purchased. I verbally confirmed that scope with the account manager and paid an invoice that included a line item for that portion of the work. Despite that, the installer arrived without all of the necessary materials and informed me he was not comfortable installing the vanity. To be clear, I have no issue with the installer declining work he wasn't comfortable performing. What I do have an issue with is being told afterward that vanity installation was never included, despite it being discussed with the account manager and being a major reason I selected this company over other bids. The installer himself encouraged me to request a refund for that portion of the project, but the company only provided a partial refund ($180). As a result, I am left with an unfinished project, a sink currently being held up by a 2x4, and the need to hire a second contractor to complete the work. What should have been a straightforward bathroom update has turned into a major headache. By the time the project is finally finished, I will have spent significantly more than the original quote, despite choosing this company because I believed they would handle the full scope of work from start to finish.

As one of the other reviewers said, these guys use subcontractors of varying quality. They had to…read morerefinish the floor 3 times because the owner insisted on sending the same crew back each time (which makes sense if using a fixed-price sub - keeps their profit intact). I communicated my concerns professionally (and almost apologetically) with the owner as we went, but I'm not sure that any of them were addressed directly with the crew - rather they were just given basic instructions at the start of each day to fix the problems from the last go 'round. I'll give them credit for trying to make it right, and the floor looks a lot better than it did when they started, but it still wasn't 100% at the end and they didn't want to listen to any more complaints. A list of items specific issues that as far as I can tell were never communicated back to the crew: - The first thing the crew leader did was take a dump in my bathroom, without asking, and made this a daily ritual. - They didn't bother to cover anything up before sanding - no sheathing between rooms, no covers over the vents - so dust was everywhere in the house. At least I had the good sense to turn off the HVAC, but still had to change the air filters several times before they finished the job. - They sanded/buffed the carpet, trashing it where the carpet meets the hardwood. - Stain was applied in some places across grain / boards rather than same direction leading to stripes (1st attempt), and inconsistently leading to dark splotches (2nd attempt). - They used my ladder (from the garage) without asking. - They left gobs of topcoat around trim and puddling elsewhere. - They did not take the time to use filler properly after the second attempt - there are dark spots around nails, knots, and where sanding was rough. - Hand sanding was quite rough in several areas leading to dark stain, especially around trim, cabinets, toilet, etc. And they didn't thoroughly clean or screen before coating in several places, leading to dirt and debris in the finish. - Stain spatter was left on the wall from brush work and flinging wet towels. The sinks were a left an absolute mess. - There was no real cleanup to speak of and patches of grass are dead in the front yard where they cleaned stain off their tools and equipment. - The "suicide cord" they were using to connect to 240V was a fire and safety hazard. After attempting to share my last round of concerns (not asking for them to redo it again but rather just trying to share some of the issues for future improvement), Anthony told me to stop looking so closely and asked, "You gonna blast us on the internet?" indicating his level of concern. For a website that touts their high level of professionalism and reputation, the crew did not reflect it. If I wasn't a professional contractor myself, then this might have been a traumatic experience. And if I knew the crew and could have hired them directly, then I would have undoubtedly paid half as much... but then they might not have redone it 3 times (especially because I would have kicked them out after the second attempt). I never asked for a discount, and one was certainly never offered. I'm leaving 2 stars because on Yelp that means it "could've been better" but for the price I paid to go with the "pros" I regret not giving one of the other bidders a chance.

We vetted several companies and decided to go with ASA Flooring for several reasons: 1) Responsiveness. Bryan was quick to get back to my inquiry and was at the house to assess the project within a day. 2) Knowledgeable. Our refrigerator had leaked and warped several boards. Bryan explained the pros and cons of board replacement vs letting the boards dry out. We went with the latter and saved money. We had another challenge in the fact that we did not have two rooms refinished which meant seamless color matching. Alfredo was an artist and had an eye for selecting the perfect match. Although the final decision was ours, his experience was a definite help. 3) Efficient. The whole process from start to finish only took three days. We used the opportunity for a little vacation in the mountains and came home to beautiful floors! 4) Professional. Kevin, the project manager, came the weekend before to assess the job site and answer any questions. Alberto hung plastic and taped off the areas to reduce dust and vacuumed any remaining dust before the final coat. It was nearly dust free! 5) Follow up: Kevin did the final walk through with us to make sure we were satisfied. I'd highly recommend ASA Flooring for your next hardwood floor project!
