Hired for the cleaning of two sofas and two chairs. Poor job of looking (if at all) for spots; just cleaned the surfaces without any close attention. I've got a half dozen spots to clean myself. Said they came with no water so wanted to connect to our spigot outside. Couldn't get the hose disconnected and now, from whatever they did, it leaks at the connection. They found some other source outside (we're in a complex) and left a mess on the sidewalk from dragging their hoses through the landscaping. Left huge wads of dog hair (from our furniture) in our carport, apparently when they drained their hoses? Massive mistake using them (even though prior experience with rug cleaning was good); never again. read more

John, It's interesting that you've decided to respond publicly to my review after 3 years in an attempt to mischaracterize things, as if this makes things any better. First, you leave a comment here that I left a machine-made old dirty rug with you - which is patently untrue. Hours later, after seeing my response, you go in and CHANGE your comment to one with a more cordial and apolgetic one -- stating that I CHOSE the stop statute (or whatever it was called - I can't remember) over an expensive repair. Ahh John... if only that were true. The truth is, you didn't even present another option or explain the treatment you did. ...On the quality of my rug To your now deleted comment: my rug is a 100% WOOL, HAND DYED (vegetal, not chemical), HAND TUFTED Turkish prayer rug that I purchased from very good friend who is an importer of fine rugs. She purchased it from one of her partners in Istanbul. It was plush and in excellent condition, except for the pull/fray on the corners that I brought it in to repair. The retail value was $1,200.00. It was not old, dirty or machine made - any assertion to those points is patently untrue. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, my housekeeper caught the corner of the rug in the vacuum it frayed and pulled the yarn on two corners. The frayed area was very small on each end and would have likely required repair to the (warp/weft) on the back on one side. I expected a repair. Unfortunately, you chose to do something else without my approval in lieu of a true repair. ...On not noticing the problem with the repair: I have already apologized for the time that had elapsed between when I picked up the rug and when I noticed your "repair" --- However, that happened very easily because of the way you packaged the rug...which prevented me from properly inspecting it on pickup. While it may not have been intentional, by rolling the damaged edges to the inside of the rug, and putting the intact corners on the outside, it led me to the mistaken belief that it had been repaired properly, when it wasn't. When I picked it up and pulled back the paper - what I saw was the two edges that were in good shape. I went on my way, happily assuming my rug had been fixed, when it was not, and it stayed in the paper because I'd cleaned and repaired it prior to putting it into temporary storage for a move. It was only when I rolled it out to give it to my daughter for her new house, that I gasped with shock over your "repair." ...On abusive customer treatment: Trying discredit me first with berating comments about the quality of my rug, and then changing that comment response to assert that I CHOSE the repair in question feels like an attempt to mislead readers and frankly, negates the new, more apologetic tone of your reply. While I want to believe you are sincere in the sideway apology -- what speaks louder is your attempt to push the blame back on me. Again. Seriously dude.... I wish you well... and I don't have an axe to grind. However, I'm not going to allow you to attempt to discredit me as if I did anything other than fail to scrutinize the work you did on pickup. My review stands on its own and is substantiated by other reports of rudeness, disrespectful customer service on your part. Perhaps it'd be good to focus on reversing that pattern. Carpet King did a very poor job on some minor carpet repairs for me. The job involved a pattern match of existing carpet but the job was left in a mismatched and crooked mess. In addition the owner billed me for $125 more than his original estimate. The total time his workers spent on the job was less than two hours and the fee I was charged was $500. That's $250 per hour for poor quality work. read more

Very shady store. Gives a quote for one price and then charges more once you revive the bill. This store does not do business in good faith and will charge you extra once they clean a carpet. Plenty of other cleaning services in Capitola and Santa Cruz that will not charge you an arm and a leg. read more

I compared prices of several local carpet cleaners, and Carpet King came in lowest. When they arrived onsite, they tacked on a $40 "Furniture Moving" charge to move a dining room table and a sofa - the rest was cleaned around, or I'd moved it out of the way before the cleaner came. The irony is that I helped the cleaner move the furniture I was charged for! Moving furniture IMO is part of the job I'm paying for. Beware of last minute add-on charges with these guys. read more

It seemed like a fair price so I called back the next day to set up an appointment to have them clean only to be told it was $100.00 more. Even the owner came by to check out how things went after they cleaned my 99 year old mother's bedroom carpet. Both the owner and his son were respectful, honest, dependable, friendly and kind to my mother who suffers from dementia which made her feel important and happy. I dropped off an area rug and pad to be cleaned. This company said they couldn't clean my pad. When I went to pick up the rug they had thrown the pad away without my permission!!! He tried to sell me another pad for "half off" $288! I bought a better one on Amazon for $50! He was just trying to rip me off! Very underhanded and unprofessional!! I recently had an antique Kilim rug cleaned by Carpet King. The rug came back gorgeous and fresh, so if you need a carpet cleaned, I would recommend them. However, the price charged was different from the price quoted. This isn't a terribly big deal, however, if they had taken the time to measure the carpet when I dropped it off, we wouldn't have had this potentially problematic customer service situation. I also asked about rug pads. The price I was quoted was obscene, about $140 for a 5 by 9 rug. I immediately went to Overstock and picked one up for under $40. Although Carpet King has been in business for a long time and probably do well, every small business should know the difference between their core business and required mark-up, and add-on items provided at reasonable prices to clients. Those add-ons are how you secure loyal customers. Also, some guy was in the back yelling on the phone the whole time. If you have to deal with this business, I recommend that you request a written detailed receipt of your order, whether cleaning, restoration or new, because details may change arbitrarily, and when they do, expect that problems will be blamed on the customer. I dealt with John, who claimed to be the owner and who proved to be, as a disagreement arose, quick to anger and verbal abuse despite my effort to discuss and resolve the situation. With winter behind us and spring cleaning in progress, we recently contacted a series of cleaning professionals to help us with a full "Top to Bottom" house cleaning. After a winter with three boys and two cats, our house needed some serious work. Although Carpet King was not the least expensive (going cheap can sometimes cost more) they were quick to respond to our questions and were able cover all the services we needed (fully carpeted house, three pieces of furniture, six area rugs, and minor carpet repair). The reason for 5 Stars? First, they knew what they were doing. They anticipated things we overlooked and simply handled them. Second, they dealt with problems in an exceptional manner. We had two minor issues (honestly might have been our fault) that needed fixing. I made one phone call, and the response was "We'll be out there today to fix it."
