I thought that Phuong and Ken were very professional. They did my nails and I think they look beautiful. Phoung removed the bad polish I got somewhere else and Ken did the cats' eye 13 gel polish. He was careful to seal it at the end and would ask me what I thought about it as he went along. He was courteous and professional. The other reviews are really surprise me! While I was there some other ladies would pop their heads in and say hello. The other customers were happy and seemed like regulars. This was my first time here today and absolutely my last. Awful service and awful manicure. Way overpriced. The employees were rude to me, as I came in with a big group (bridal party). We DID have an appointment too. The staff knew her (my friend, the bride) and were very friendly to her, but not me. I'm thinking it's because I only got a mani and didn't get a pedi too? I was the only person in the big group who didn't get both services. It's all about the money, right? I'm not "important" enough to them... I guess I'm paying for the beach? I am a not a local and can't believe how bad my experience was. I waited for over 25 minutes for my "turn". I wish I would have walked out then and there. My nails look like a 3rd grader painted them. Half of my fingernail isn't even painted and I paid $16 for this? No way. I would not recommend this place at all. Yikes. No no no and NO. We were here from out of town for a wedding and needed a little primping. I got a pedicure and my friend got a pedi/color change. While the ladies were nice enough, the quality of the work was extremely poor. Perhaps our nail technician needed glasses? I don't know. But my friends 9 year old could have painted our nails better. First of all, my cuticles were barely touched, nor did they use a tool to remove dirt from under my toe nails. Wtf??? Now let's move onto the polish. My friend had to tell the woman 3 times to paint the whole nail! She continually missed the side of 2 of her nails. And upon inspection after leaving, the second layer of polish on my toes didn't even cover the entire nail! Like seriously?? How ??? My friend's nails are pretty unacceptable. The owner even came over and agreed that they were not done correctly and offered to do a third coat of clear! Like how are they ever going to dry? We declined. we didn't have time to wait around to get them polished again. If you're in the area, go to one of the other two nail salons in the area. My experience at Carpinteria Nails was not the best at all. I asked for a mani and pedi. They made my big toe bleed and when I asked for a simple nail design for my nails they told me they could not do it which was fine so I asked for little flowers. (The ones every nail salon knows how to do) The nails came out horrible and super smeared. Not to mention they charged me 100 dollars for it! Definitely not worth your time. read more

Really nice ladies at this nail salon! I recommend this place (appointments are probably preferred cause they only have a few pedicure chairs). I might go back again next time I'm on vacation, but I say "might" for 2 reasons: 1) they are not able to do designs (I wanted a simple chevron zig zag on my big toes and unfortunately she only had a toothpick to work with...lame). And 2) the massage could've been a little longer and better (really needed focus on my feet and toes!) I base all my reviews and tips on the pedicure massage and this just didn't cut it My little 9 yr old niece got a mani and the lady had to touch up/reapply one finger a couple times for some reason and that led to that one finger not holding its polish for even 3 hours later. This was my 2nd time going here. Both times Ken did my nails...& this will be the LAST time. He is rude & unprofessional. I was trying to figure out what color I wanted my (gel) nails and since it was difficult to see actual color of polish via faded label on bottles, I unscrewed top (of bottle) to look at actual color-He got VERY upset w/me! On 1 of my fingers I have a defective nail (genetically) & he continued to laugh at how bad my nail looked... When I explained to him that is why I'm here-to put an acrylic tip over it-He continued laughing. I asked him to stop as I'm sensitive about it-But he kept on-saying it was "a miracle he fixed my ugly nail" (it's not a "miracle"-I've been getting my nails done for 30 years & every nail salon has done a good job fixing this particular nail). I was then charged $50 for a nail fill & gel... Which they said was a discount of normally $60 they charge. (I felt price was a little high)... I guess next time I want to get my nails done AND get scolded & ridiculed at the same time, I will come here... Otherwise there are plenty other nail salons that would appreciate my business. read more

We made an appt for 3 people (mani and pedi) and showed up 5 min late which they claim was the reason why it took 2.5 hours. They only had 2 people working there but had only 1 for us 3 at many times as they rotated in their regular customers. We were here with the bride before her wedding and the attention to detail plus utter lack of efficiency was extremely frustrating. Please go elsewhere unless you have absolutely nothing else to do all day and want to sit in a very old nail salon. read more

A friend and I stopped in here on a Saturday for a pedicure and a manicure. Little did I know but we were about to receive the worst mani/pedi of our lives. My feet were placed in cold water with the hot water running. Cuticle removal was virtually not existent. There was very little scrubbing (an old dirty little scrub sponge with no soap) and the massage consisted of an effortless application of lotion. The pedicure was bad but the manicure took it to a whole other level of bad. My nails were left uneven and the nail polish continued to peel off the following day (never really dried). Even after my suggestions for improve the service, no attempts were made. The whole mani/pedi took 25 minutes, if that. It was obviously a matter of getting people in and out as quickly as possible. After talking to the locals, they say this is not the place to go. Duly noted. read more

Ken and Fong are awesome! They are very accommodating and truly care about their customers...local or not! If anyone had a bad experience, either they didn't speak up, were poor patrons, or asked for what couldn't be delivered by ANY salon! I'd drive from San Diego to get my pedicure done...& once I moved to the area, now I get my nails and toes done there, driving 25 miles! What could be better? I visit Carpinteria every year for a few months and every time I come back they are always so welcoming and excited to see me. Ken does a great pink and white and I love Fon's pedicure they last at least a month even walking barefoot on the sand. It is very convenient location and good parking. I made an appointment to have a pedicure. I have been to this place once before without incident. However, when I showed up, it was clear that it was going to be a while before they could start on me. After about 10 minutes, I asked how much longer it was going to be. After some translation, I was told to sit at a manicuring table. A woman came out with a bucket of hot water and I was told to put my feet in it. That's when I walked out. Not the relaxing pedicure I had envisioned when I made my appointment. Maybe they can afford to treat tourists like that in the summer, but good luck getting locals to go there the rest of the year. read more

I had the worst experience here! I don't even know where to begin. The lady that did my nails (Nina) was a very nice older women but her work was awful. I told her to cut my cuticles 3 times. She pretended to cut them 3 times, or she thought she was but nothing was being cut. (Maybe she needs glasses) So after half hour of 'cutting' them, I finally told her my cuticles were ok so she could start the color... Once she got started on the color I noticed the color was messy. So I thought she was going to clean it up but she asked me to place my hand under the light (gels) I told her that it was messy and didn't want them to dry messy. I got the owners attention. The female owner agreed that they needed clean up but the husband said "they look fine to me, she's a professional " whaaaaaaaaaat? My drunk self can do a way better job! this is when I'm wishing I had taken a picture to post but I asked them to remove the color that I didn't want anything anymore. If the owner thinks that was fine work then that speaks plenty of the rest of the work they do. I left money for the lady because I truly think she probably needed glasses and I didn't want to be mean. However it was a complete waste of time and money. Will never be back. read more

They are dedicated to their customers, know them all by name, and very affordable. in referance to one of the other reviews: If the water for the pedicure is not warm enough, just let them know, They are always happy to adjust it. This is a family-owned business that is personal and caring. Ken & Fong give special treatment to their regular customers and Ken does great full sets. Fong does great Manis and Pedis, and her mother is "OK" at Pedis, but not as good. It is important to phone in for an appointment here, or you may wait.
