This is a simple tex-mex spot with a hole in the wall restaurant vibe. I love the salsa variety, tomatillo, Chile verde and Fresca being my top picks. We got the nachos with the chips on the side (they were weirded out about that, but it worked out). Their chips had different textures: wonton chip style and tortilla style ,and I loved it. Checked out Carrburritos for the first time while in town celebrating my brothers birthday. Definitely didn't disappoint. Note: This is one of those places that you order at the counter and they bring out to you. The menu seemed to have a variety of different options from fillings to burritos to tacos etc .My husband and I decided to split the fish burrito, as it looked pretty large. Good decision cause the portions are big. We got rice, beans, fish, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and guac in our burrito. I liked that chips and salsa was also included. There are a handful of types of salsa to choose from. The burrito add guac and 2 beers came to $17. I didn't think that was too bad for value. Really nice, helpful employees, but my fiancé and I were not fans of the food. He got the carnitas burrito and while he said the meat was better than chipotle's, the tortilla was not warm and the other fillings were not remarkable. They are pretty stingy with the guac, which is pretty bland - not as good as Chipotle's. I got the tofu burrito and was sorely disappointed. It was the strangest tofu I've ever tried. New to the area, and burrito fans, we read several recommendations for Carrburritos. So we fought the difficult street parking on a Friday night and found a welcoming server. We ordered a plain and a regular burrito, and neither one of us found them very flavorful, although the serving is generous. Thankfully, the fresh and delicious salsas made up for the lack of flavor, but I shouldn't have to supplement every bite of burrito with salsa to make it more enjoyable. My hubby was craving tacos and we were on the UNC Hospital campus, so we decided to try Carrburritos. It is a quaint little spot with a cool vibe. He got tacos (1 chorizo and 1 shredded beef) and I got a carnitas burrito. We also got some chips and queso to share.Everything was really good. Some highlights for me were the guacamole and the queso, but the real star of the show was the chips. They give you a mix of yellow corn tortilla chips and these AMAZING fried flour tortilla chips. I have been to place a few times and have to say that I am not disappointed. It is similar to Chipotle and similarly priced, but this place uses fresher, local ingredients. They also probably use less sodium in their ingredients, making it a healthier option (Chipotle has a ton!). The place is pretty inside and makes you want to look around. It also definitely gives off the Carrboro hipster vibe. The staff is friendly and their menu is pretty diverse. I had the chorizo mejor burrito, and it was definitely good. You could taste the fresh ingredients and the guacamole did not disappoint. It was pretty large which filled me up. One of my criticisms is that the tortillas used for their burritos. It could definitely be heated prior to using them, which will make the burrito taste even better. Another criticism the burrito does not have many ingredients (only has beans, cheese, lettuce, and salsa fresca) unless you are willing to pay more for extras (veggies). It would be awesome if they would allow you to add veggies for free in order to have a more complete nutritious meal. Each entrée comes with chips a variety of homemade salsas to choose from, which is a definite plus. The chips had two different types of textures (you can see in the picture), making them enjoyable. However, it would be nice to just have a bit more chips. Phenomenal customer service. Hard to explain; the people may look intimidating but they are very nice and put care into the dining experience here. The space is cool. On the smaller side, but cool. And attract, in my opinion, a cool crowd. Good for casual dates, good for eating solo, good for catching up with a friend, good for small groups! What gets me here is the freshness of the food. On the menu it may appear to be similar to chipotle but it tastes soooo fresh, healthy, and it is way better value than any of those fast casual places. This place gives me a case of the burrito sadz. It should be so much better than it is. The main complaint I have is the ratio of ingredients. I ordered a regular burrito with the guacamole choice of filling and was sadly perplexed at how little guacamole there was. After three bites of not getting anything I finally dissected my burrito to see what the deal was and I found five pieces of small avocado chunks. It was not even guacamole. This leaves me with beans, beans and more beans. I could just open a can of beans and just dump it in a tortilla and call it a day. Chipotle is actually better and that's not saying much as it is. I threw half of it away. Other quibbles are the temperature regulation in there. Their AC is incredibly inefficient and underused making it uncomfortable to eat in house. Additionally, the salsa Fresca although fresh is not good at all. There is either something missing or something added that ruins it. My husband had the tacos and couldn't finish them and he's known for his taco eating all over the world. But these were a total bust. read more

Best burrito in Chapel Hill/Carrboro hands down!! Carrburritos is this sort-of-hole-in-the-wall place just on the outskirts of downtown Carrboro, and it is well worth the visit. They have tacos, tostadas, quesadilla, and of course burritos. There are several different fillings options. I ordered a burrito with sweet potato and chorizo and it was delectable! It cost an extra $3.50 to have both those fillings (which seemed steep to me but I really wanted to try it), and it was worth the price- delicious! I also requested all-flour tortilla chips which are their shining stars in my opinion...flaky, delicious chips that pair perfectly with their numerous salsa options. We also tried a small side of their queso ("small" was plenty to share between 2 people with plenty to spare) and it was some of the best queso I've ever had. I told my companion I think it's one of the only restaurants in Carrboro/greater CH that I haven't eaten at -- in other words, good call. I went with a basic burrito -- just beans, rice, and guac. Given the option to eat meat, I almost always choose to do so; but in this case, I wasn't disappointed that I went the vegetarian route. That burrito did not lack for filling or flavor. They have a solid salsa list, and I asked for the verde which had generous slivers of fresh jalapeno and a great kick. I really, really wanted to like this place, because I like supporting local restaurants that you can't find elsewhere. However, I was pretty disappointed with the food and also kind of grossed out by their sanitation. The food is quite pricey, especially considering that Chipotle and Cosmic Cantina are right down the street- it's $8 for a burrito with guac+sour cream, and the burrito was mostly tortilla. As in, there was hardly very much in the giant tortilla wrap, so it was wrapped up on itself. Chipotle and Cosmic both give you way more filling for your burritos. I got chicken in my burrito, which I thought would be great since they chop it up right there in front of you. Nope, it was dry and completely flavorless. I'm hoping maybe I just had an old batch of chicken, but I'd never get that again. As for sanitation, the woman who was taking my order was also the one using her BARE hands to make my burrito. I understand if you've washed your hands, then yes feel free to make my food without any gloves on. But handling food must be your ONLY job, otherwise it starts getting unsanitary. But as she's in the middle of making my burrito, someone else approaches the counter so she stops, RESTS HER ENTIRE FOREARM ON MY OPEN BURRITO, and proceeds to take the order, with the memo pad on the SAME surface as the burrito. Come on, I know this is not okay. She was also bringing food out to people (this is why it can be very slow if there's a crowd) and doing lots of non-food prep work, so that just thoroughly grossed me out. On the bright side, you get unlimited salsa with your chips, which is nice. I needed a lot more salsa to add to my burrito since it was completely bland and flavorless. Carrburritos. Disappointed today by my second visit. I had a good experience my first visit, which was about 7 months ago. The customer service was bad as I felt rushed to order after just entering the store. I wasn't even on line (I was looking at the menu). It was a Monday night at 6pm and no one was behind me. I don't remember if the veggie burrito I got last time came with guac but this time, the worker didn't ask if I wanted guac with my veggie burrito so I assumed it would be extra. The total was $8.25. I can get a veggie burrito from other nearby places with guac for less than that. Lastly, the burrito was not warm even though I read below they heat it on the flattop as someone else also complained about the cold burritos. My favorite is the salsa. I swear I have driven past Carrburritos a million times in the past and never had a chance to stop in, but as I was walking aimlessly around Carrboro yesterday I some how kept passing this great little eatery. Compared to all the other similar chain concepts surrounding Franklin St. nothing tops Carrburrito in my mind. The chicken was fresh off the grill and you could tell just by looking at the guac how fresh it was. Choose your salsa (I went for the hot habenero salsa) mine was super tasty and voila sit down and stuff your face with an amazing burrito. The staff here is friendly and knows what they are doing. By the time I went to grab my water they had already delivered my food to my table I didn't even know they realized where I sat down, kuddos! I saw that they opened a location in Davidson back by my old hood people you must get out and try this place. Carnivores or veggies lovers this place is for you they have so many options to choose from some unique burrito fillings you may be interested in knowing about include; sweet potato & caramelized onion; fresh tomatoes and Mexican rice, chorizo, and carnitas just to name a few. While in town for a convention, we got recommend to this place. We got there and realized it was similar to a Moe's or Barburritos from back home. But the ordering system is totally different. I was not asked what I wanted on my burrito besides what meat I wanted (which was met with total attitude complete with eye rolling) I asked for the chicken and then the burrito man went to town slopping everything on. I had to get the burrito re-made b/c he added stuff I did not want/ask for. Which was met with total annoyance and the look on his face look liked I kicked his kitten. Which I did not do. Instead of rushing me off to pay my ticket...maybe next time left the customer choose what they want on their burrito. This is the whole point of this place right? The burrito was good tho. The ingredients tasted really fresh & from what I saw before I was rushed through my order, they looked really fresh as well. The chips were a little different. You could definitely tell that they were fresh...but the dark colored ones tasted off. I didn't have any salsa but my dining mate said the green salsa was very good. If we're headed into Carrboro and I ask the spouse what he wants to eat, I can almost guarantee he'll say 'Carrburritos!' every time. While not at all the apex of traditional Mexican cuisine (check out your local taco truck for that, folks), the food is fresh, tasty and filling with plenty of options for vegetarians/vegans and omnivores alike. Some reviewer seem to think it's pricey, but I don't expect to pay Taco Bell prices for made-to-order food that won't leave me hungry an hour later. Light eaters, skip the burritos -- they've been known to defeat even my husband's appetite, and this is a man who considers a pint of ice cream to be an appetizer (yet never gains weight; wish I could say the same!). If you like a big meal, the burritos will do well by you; slather them (or anything) in some chipotle or arbol salsa for extra deliciousness. I usually opt for the quesadilla with grilled vegetables, which is filling but not in an oh-my-god-can't-move-so-full sort of way, and my mother always insists on having the pork tacos when she comes to visit. They make a good iced tea there as well, which can help keep the heat of a Southern summer at bay if you're dining out on the lovely patio. If you're only pleased by straight-out-of-Oaxaca traditional fare, I must again recommend any number of the local mobile taquerias, but if you don't mind your tacos and burritos having an American accent and are looking for freshly-made food at a decent price, you could do a lot worse than a nice meal at Carrburritos. read more

I've got to say - their salsa is the freshest and tastiest that I've tasted in NC so far! Its got a great atmosphere and screams out Carrboro! Everything else so far seems to be pretty bland. The Fish Tacos were pretty lifeless. It was basically a grilled piece of mystery white fish with some toppings - no spice or seasoning whatsoever - which is really strange for, well, tacos in general. I opted for burrito insides without the tortilla (Gotta watch those calories!), and expected to see something a little like what you'd see at Freebird's or Chipotle - like a Bird Salad - but it was actually arranged into a plate like an actual meal! It was kind of cute, but I had to go and mess it up to eat it burrito style. :) The chicken was pretty tender and done well - but again, had a lack of spice in its life. The menu looks like it has some good options, and I'll definitely go try it again (I'd love to see what the sweet potato and beef fillings are all about), but really.. the only thing terribly special is again, the salsas. For me, Carrburritos was more about quantity than quality. If you want a shovel-full of 'Tex-Mex' ingredients stuffed into a "big-as-your-head" burrito, then you will love Carrburritos. Personally, I'd rather get something half the size, with fresh ingredients that didn't taste like they came out of a can, and that had an interesting mix of flavors & spices. Because of that, I've only been to Carrburritos three times... generally I'll drive a mile further down the road to the taqueria instead. So if you're used to Taco Bell, you will (correctly) think that Carrburritos is way better. The food here is always very good. I prefer the "all flour" nachos with chicken. All the salsas are amazing. But they've gotten pretty stingy on the portions lately, especially the salsa. It is like pulling teeth to get more than 2 tiny cups, even if you offer to pay for it. The service is always short and rude. Any indecision or hesitation in your order is met with complete annoyance. If you try to change or amend your order once the guy has jotted it down on the paper . . . forget it. you're done. Carrburritos is a local favorite. My family has gotten take out once a week for about five years now, so I've tasted most of the menu. Everything is really fresh and delicious, and while their monstrously sized burritos are super popular, and tasty, I usually go for the sweet potato quesadillas or the fish tacos. If you're dining in, try the ceviche! It's pretty good and also very fresh. And of course don't forget the chips and salsa! I love their chip mix and the salsa is seriously addicting. I really wanted to like this place but the servers seemed incredibly disinterested and for the price of the food I would like to get my questions answered. It was my first time ever eating there and it was very awkward having to ask so many questions and not getting answers for them. It annoyed me that they would even ask for a tip because it's basically self service, you get your own water refill and you clean up after yourself. okay, for me 4 stars = go out of your way to try the food, and expect to schedule in your next visit. With that said, carrburritos is at best 2.5 stars. I really don't understand the solid 4 star rating given here as the food was okay, but nothing that I would recommend or eat again. The biggest issues I had with my chorizo mejor burrito include: 1) the chorizo was closer to a mushy bolognese than traditional dry chorizo and didn't have that zing that chorizo should. 2) meat to everything else proportion was way off. The chorizo took up half the burrito (which, btw, I had to stop my instincts from cradling because it really is the size of a small baby). This may have been fine if the texture of the chorizo wasn't so soupy... 3) the mushiness of the chorizo sat next to more mushy guac, sour creme, and beans to create big mushy bites. I think it would have been better served if they were more conscious of their crunchy textures (lettuce/salsa) and proportioned appropriately. i agree with other yelpers that rice would have helped. my middle name is i-always-finish-my-burrito-no-matter-how-large, and i could barely eat half of it from not liking it so much take your 8 dollars and get 5 tacos at Los Comales. read more

Torn, torn, torn about 3 or 4 stars. The burritos were good, but did they wow me? Not really. Andrew was pretty meh about his steak burrito, and my mashed sweet potato and carmelized onion burrito was original, but I ended up being pretty meh about it also. I think it was a texture thing. Don't get me wrong, the flavors were great and the fillings seemed fresh, but I just wasn't super jazzed while I ate it. They get kudos for their yummy salsas. I especially loved the tomatillo salsa, it had nice heat and good smoky flavor. But I must echo previous yelpers and their experience with the not so friendly people.
