We found this place on instagram and couldn't wait to check it out. Parking is horrible but you can park down the street and walk. I may be slow but I had a difficult time trying to locate this restaurant. My GPS was way off. After arriving the restaurant is stunning inside. It's small and intimate. Very cute and cozy inside. The menu isn't overwhelming and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Prices aren't bad but the portion of food is very small. Grabbed dinner from here recently and really enjoyed it! We dropped by right at opening (5 PM) and were seated immediately without a reservation. By the time we left around 6-6:30 PM, it was getting pretty bumpin', so I'd definitely recommend a reservation if you're eating at a normal dinner hour :) For food, we ordered the guacamole (with edamame bits throughout!) as an appetizer. Honestly, I didn't really notice the edamame, but the guacamole was super fresh and tasty! For entrees, I ordered a couple of the sushi rolls, while my wife got the birria ramen. My sushi was very tasty! One of the rolls (the spicy tuna crunch, maybe?) was awesome. My wife also really liked her birria ramen a lot. Service was much better than the food. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Asian-inspired pieces. Cocktails were okay. Their tequila expresso martini was creamier and sweeter than I liked. I feel like there's no expresso in it. Maybe just coffee liqueur. We enjoyed their appetizer sampler. For the main, I had the Santa Rosa BBQ ribs platter. The ribs were dry and didn't have much caramelization/crust. I had the sauce on the side just in case it was spicy but it was on the sweeter side. The food was tasty overall, but I did feel it was a bit overpriced for what we got. The chips and salsa appetizer was fresh and flavorful, but the portion was surprisingly small -- definitely not enough for two people to snack on. The al pastor was good but really nothing special. The real star of the show was the land and sea sushi! This was an interesting combination but the flavors worked well together! I can't remember the cocktail I had but that's probably because it was pretty forgetable. Thankfully, our server made up for it: super friendly, attentive, and on top of everything the whole time. Great find just around the corner from the Hampton Inn and a show at Cat's Cradle. The menu is unique and the food is one of a kind. The shrimp burrito was outstanding with a hint of Asian sauce, and my wife had an amazing sea bass and puréed cauliflower. I had the house margarita and it was perfectly made. Perfect for a date night, La Montana creates a beautiful, intimate space to enjoy the Asian-Hispanic fusion food. I'm a huge fan of whoever chooses the music or is the DJ because great music & great food help create a memorable experience. Our server was very sweet and gave helpful suggestions. She told us the seasonal dishes and made it easy for us to decide on our meals. We chose to start with the ceviche (which came with substantial amounts of shrimp and octopus, thanks Chef!) and two cocktails: Guiding Light and Sunrise. We ordered the Molcajete and the Quesabirria as our entrées and holy cow!! Not only were they also substantial portions, but the flavor?! The salsa verde! The birria sauce! The juicy chicken and steak! The barbacoa! All super delicious! We ended with the tres leche cake and could not have chosen a better dessert. So moist and sweet! The perfect ending to an amazing meal. The only critique I would have is that there wasn't really much Asian-fusion going on on the menu. Almost all of the dishes were mostly Hispanic-based, with small bits of Asian flavor (e.g. adian tacos). The service was top tier and the staff pays great attention to you and your needs. We opted for their tequila flights, but we will definitely be back to try out their cocktails. Chose the La Familia tequila flight because I don't care much for Mezcal which was part of the other flights. Great way to start our night. Excited to finally try out La Montana, a new Latin-Asian fusion restaurant recently joining Carrboro food scene. The atmosphere was undeniably my highlight of the experience. We were surrounded by an eclectic fusion of bamboo walls, bold colors, and artistic patterns that create a visually stunning setting.The staffs were friendly and warm; they were happy to offer recommendations and were open to feedback. I considered the food "elevated" dishes with a very strong focus on presentation. Every plate and drinks were certainly crafted to appeal to the eyes, which was lovely for a date night. All dishes we got had a stronger emphasis on Latin flavors (80%) than Asian (20%). A part of me was hoping to explore new flavor profiles; but here at La Montana nothing was as adventurous as I had hoped. Nevertheless, everything was objectively tasty and very enjoyable! Parking is an absolute nightmare, and when we finally talked to a server she let me know that they would not even consider accommodating my food allergies, even though there were many suitable items on the menu. Felt like eating sushi today and looked up something close. I made the 15 minute walk to this place and it was worth it. (Didn't feel like driving) The dumplings had a different and tasty flavor. This place is, in my opinion the best restaurant in the Chapel Hill area. It's on point every single time. The drinks are creative, with unique flavors and presentation. The food is out of this world, and the Vietnamese/Latin fusion is a unique concept that you just won't get anywhere else. (Green Curry Short Ribs for the win!) We were so excited to try this place to celebrate our anniversary! We love specialty cocktails and had made the reservation for the cocktails more than the food. Even planned for Ubers so we could enjoy a couple drinks. Unfortunately, the service was less than ideal. We had a 6:45 reservation. Sat down took 10 min for server to come. Didnt have QR code on the table so she went to get it and that took 5 minutes. In the meantime we had already looked the menu up. We ordered drinks and food at once. We got our first tapa at 7:35. No silverware. We asked for some and never got it. My husband's cocktail finally arrived around 7:50. The rest of the food came around 8. We again asked for silverware and got it after our food was delivered. By this time I STILL hadn't gotten my first cocktail. At 8:25 we were finished eating, no cocktail still. I asked for my check at this point and they brought the cocktail at 8:35. Then we asked for the check and it took 20 minutes to bring it. The food was really tasty but the service was horrible. They had one bartender working the entire restaurant, on a Friday night. The service turned me off so much that I hesitate to ever try it again. Additionally, I felt the portions were really small compared to the price. I will say our server was incredibly sweet! It was absolutely not her fault at all and it is clear that they didn't schedule or have enough people working. She was doing her best to manage the tables. I met a friend for dinner on a weeknight. I picked Montaña based on Yelp reviews and I'm glad I did. Yes, parking was difficult, because Carrboro. The restaurant is small with upscale decor: think lots of light wood and white walls. Our server, Bella, couldn't have been more efficient, accommodating, and friendly. She answered our newby questions patiently and made a couple of suggestions that turned out great. The cocktail menu had a couple old favorites, and a few specialties. I tried the Mezcal-based "Circle of Life" which was very tasty if a bit sweet. The food menu likewise had some of the usual suspects (not a bad thing), and some innovative dishes. While billed as an "Asian-Mexican fusion" place, most of the menu items were of the former variety. I had edamame chili, and Vietnamese noodles with veggies and tofu. The food was well prepared and spiced just enough. We had a great first experience and will be back for sure. read more

My friend and I sat at the bar and shared three selections: (1) Chicken empanadas, (beef with Korean bbq sauce), and (3) a Viet BLT (which was exactly that: a BLT with lemon grass, pickled jalapeños, cilantro, and other veggies). We LOVE La Montana! We stopped in on a busy Friday night without realizing we'd need a reservation, and the host moved mountains (no pun intended) to find a table for us. Young, the owner, stopped by to thank us for coming and make sure our experience was wonderful. And it was! The ambiance is warm, upbeat, and a thoughtful tribute to Young's father, and the food--well, it just doesn't get any better than this.
