I probably been here years ago, but before they moved to this spot. It's has a festive colorful decor. Happy vibes! Called for reservations and they literally had the table prepared before we arrived. The hostess was pleasant and the server wS really nice, smiled tge entire time. Checked on us throughout the entire time. It was 7 of us and she didn't miss a beat. The food was fresh and really tasty. The fresh seasoning was a plus. The food didn't take long at all. It was hot also, to say they served it all at the same time. Husband ordered the fried ice cream but canceled it and it still came out. They just let him keep it. The restaurant was clean. The restroom was so so, it needed a little attention, but it wasn't grossed out. I think that was the mgr that came to the table and she was really pleasant. We will definitely go eat here again.

Went to Carreta's for Cinco de Mayo celebration. There was a live band outside ( Superchargers) that was pretty awesome and there was a great atmosphere. The place was packed! Family friendly, wifi available, parking was a challenge due to the large crowd. I noticed only 2 Bartenders trying to serve a long line of customers. The wait time was approximately 30 minutes to get a cocktail. The Margarita with Patron tequila was awesome and worth the wait. I put my name on the list for a table and was told it would take about an hour to get seated. To me that was no biggie as they had that awesome band outside and I had a great Margarita in hand for the start of a great evening. After being notified by phone ( 1hr later) I was seated. The table was clean and the waitress was very friendly. As in many Mexican restaurants someone brought the usual free nachos and dip. I ordered the beef Chimichanga with refried beans and rice. Within 15 minutes of placing my order the food was brought to the table. After reading Carreta's reviews I was expecting a great or at least a good dinner. Well, they didn't live up to the great reviews today. Presentation was plain, the Chimichanga was soft (not deep fried crispy) and bland. The refried beans were watery and bland as well, however the rice was good. I didn't touch the sour cream or the guacamole that was served on a bed of lettuce. I know Carreta's was super busy with Cinco de Mayo and there was a long waiting list for seating but to me that is not an excuse for the disappointing meal I was served. Maybe they'll do better when it's not as busy. In the near future I'll try Carreta's again and post an update.

Love Carreta's! I've been all over Louisiana. I visited the Slidell location for pickup for Cinco de Mayo yesterday & my food was really good! I love a good chimichanga! They were really organized about placing/ picking up orders due to Covid which I appreciated! They also gave me a free chips & salsa! Can't wait to dine in again! #yelplove

    Choriqueso - SO GOOD

I can't believe I went from 5 stars to 2, but our experience today was all around awful. It was as if the staff couldn't care less that we were there. Though the food was still good as always, I cannot get over how bothered the staff seemed to be by us being there.

When my husband, son and I were in Slidell, my son wanted to try Carreta's because someone told him about the fried ice cream. We were immediately seated inside, as it was too cold to sit outside. The patio looked like a totally awesome place to hang out with friends and have a nice meal and a few adult beverages. I ordered the Enchiladas El Dueno, and my husband ordered some sort of enchilada and tamale combo, and I can't remember what Spencer ordered, but it was covered in cheese sauce and he loved it. He never made it to the fried ice cream. My enchiladas were delicious! My husband enjoyed his food as well. The next time we come through Slidell, we'll definitely stop in and eat here, especially if it's pretty enough that we can sit out on the patio.

    Fun!

Homemade corn tortillas, fresh and crunchy tortilla chips, salsa, and beans. I had the carne asada and it came fully loaded with sizzling skillet of onions, guacamoles sour cream, pico, and cactus. Their top shelf margarita really packed a punch. With all the seafood choices I am still concerned about the oil spills in the gulf, I am still reluctant to eat any of it. So glad I picked this place. Top notch food.

Inattentive. Food is very decent. Good complimentary salsa & charbroiled beans with chips. Sometimes chips taste burnt oil. Go for taco Tuesday a lot. Have bands & $1.50 street tacos if order minimum 4. They're good. Only Taco Tuesday deal on tacos in Slidell I've found besides Tacos & Beer (ew) $1 tacos. Drinks are overpriced. Cocktail/beer menu not detailed enough with prices or ingredient description. Margaritas 2 for 1 sometimes and on taco Tuesday BUT they are cheap syrup instead of lime juice. Then barely shaken or cold. I disliked frozen and regular. Servers aren't trained well or familiar with menu or prices so you're on your own as far as familiarizing yourself with any specials and advocating for drinks refills or literally anything else you need. Double check your bill before you pay ive been given wrong ticket for another table multiple times. They also have issues honoring Toast loyalty program with points you build up. If server cant figure it out, ask for manager... who is capable of figuring it out but doesnt want to comp you coupons if the machine doesnt do it automatically. If anyone wants vegetarian options aka grilled veggoes or something be prepared for them to completely upcharge that more than the price of meat for a few skimpy onions... no sizzling fajita veggie selection like other places. Also, always out of the tajín and candy for micheladas. Always forget the pineapples that are supposed to come on al pastor tacos. Just ask for it. PS also good $ deal on the street tacos on uber eats & door dash compared to other places. Birthdays get complimentary scoop of ice cream and singing with decorative accessories worn by servers and sombrero for you. Old Location: New Place. First time there. Staff friendly & quick even though only 2 people were front of house. About 8 tables full at a time on Wednesday night.. Ambience cute for small space, nicely decorated inside & out. Food, horchata & michelada really good ! Food plated nicely. Birria plate on big cutting board with sauces. Churro share portion set up on cute cart. All good! Just recommend getting bottled beverage or horchata b/c tap water & fountain drinks tasted weird water.

The tables were sticky, the music was way too loud for no reason, and the menu looked like it hadn't been updated (or cleaned) in years. The food somehow managed to be both bland and confusing at the same time. The chips were stale, the salsa tasted like watered-down tomatoes, and the tacos were so soggy they basically fell apart before I could even pick them up. I honestly don't know how something that should be simple ended up tasting this bad. It felt like the kitchen just threw random ingredients together and hoped no one would notice. Service wasn't any better. It took forever for anyone to come by our table, and when they finally did, they seemed annoyed that we were even there. Our drinks were wrong, our food took way too long, and no one checked on us after it arrived. By the end, I was mostly impressed that a restaurant could get so many things wrong at once. If you're looking for a place to test your patience and question your life choices, this might be it. Otherwise, I'd recommend literally anywhere else.

The service however .... Our server was a tad bit rude. We sat at a table by the door while we waited on a table . He walked up and rudely stated ... you can't sit at a table while waiting on a table and walked off. I get it. It's not what you do but how you do it. His tone was the problem. Besides there was no one else waiting to be seated at a table for 2. The restaurant is really cutesy with a bar vibe. I giving them a 4 star only because of our server. Hey manager and server read up on giving someone the pickle. It might help when training or just working on a service industry. I usually tip minimum 18% but definitely not tipping that tonight. He waited on us after which was awkward especially since we were sitting at the same table he told us to get up from. He did well with serving but pre service blew it for him. Smile and watch your tone young man. Kindness goes a long way.
