I love eating here best food around warm atmosphere great service clean place I can't wait to go back

OK...so you would think that out here in the Midwest that homestyle cooking would be everywhere--not necessarily so. While visiting friends in Wichita, they took me here--full well knowing that I missed home-cooked meals. The food was fabulous and the portions large. It was a treat to have home baked bread. Most of the meats (including the turkey dinner I had) were from the Yoder meats place, not to far away. Servers were friendly, and in my opinion--quite attractive, though almost always married--damnit. In any case I would highly recommend this place as one does not always get a homecooked meal like this. In response to another patron's comments, I did not have any problems with the meat or the mashed potatoes. everything was perfect and I was full-quite full. The pies are delicious as well, and one can pre-order many different flavors not often found, including special pies for whose with restricted sugar intake. Again, highly worth it--and yes, in the middle of nowhere. read more

Very busy on a Saturday afternoon. The sausage and sauerkraut special was a very good deal with two sides. I liked this kind of food, old fashioned and like mom used to make. Bread was a little stale at 1 in the afternoon. read more

Honestly, I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I worked here in high school and know first-hand that the kitchen is clean. The little Amish ladies come in at 4am everyday to make pies, breads, soups and gravies from scratch. They will never sell pie that's more than a day old. A lot of the meats come from the processor right across the street. The ham steak on the menu is probably the best bet. It's local, and doesn't remotely resemble any ham you've ever had in a restaurant before. My favorite, the hot hamburger sandwich. It's freshly processed meat on baked that day country white bread, served with your choice of brown or white gravy. Breakfast is always amazing, but make sure you get there early, they stop serving at 10 am, and often run out of the plate size cinnamon rolls long before that. My favorite- eggs, hashbrowns and out of this world biscuits, for 4$. This place is famous for it's coffee. Always hot and good quality! Just an FYI, Yoder is an Amish community, named after the most common surname there. You'll often find lots of Amish men in their black hats sitting in the front section. There horse and buggies and tractors are out in the parking lot. The gift shop features lots of local goods, and you can check out the old-fashioned hardware store or lots of other amazing shops on main street while you're here. This restaurant was featured in Taste of Home magazine, and we had visitors from all 50 states after that article went to press. They are not open on Sundays, and they close at 9PM. read more

If I could have given this place 6 stars I would have. It is not "Amish" necessarily, but it was really good comfort food. **Reccomend: Get the all you can eat Family Style meal. We did a combo of the fried chicken and Roast Beef which, even at $14 a person was still a great deal. The Family style includes a drink (which is $2 anyway) and a piece of pie (which is $3-4) so the food itself didn't seem to be that much more when you factor in that we were going to get a drink and pie anyhow. Children cost 75 cents per year for the Family style and they get both a drink and slice of pie too. Word to the wise, we all agreed that the Banana Cream Pie was our favorite. We got there around 2 in the afternoon on a Saturday and it was super busy so I cannot imagine going during a "peak time". Even with it being busy the food came out quickly and the service was very friendly. read more

Pie. Yummy. Best pie ever. The have dozens of pies, though they may not all be available. You can order a pie at least one day ahead of time and pick it up to take home. They also have several sitting in a refrigerated lazy susan type thing that you can buy. Theres other food. I like the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes and gravy and corm. They managed to cook it at the most perfect temperature ever. Their chili is ok-though I like Texas Roadhouses better. I wasn't quite as impressed with the breakfast. Thought (and hoped) it would be a lot more greasier. While youre in town you can swing by Yoder Meats (not sure about the tongues they had sitting in the fridge) or the Dutch Mill Bakery (cinnamon rolls /droooool) and some other shops. read more

The food is excellent, and pleased everyone in our group from age 2 to 60. We had a large group and had quick and friendly service and left full of delicious pie! I recommend making a stop anytime that you can as you pass by but it is also worth the drive from Wichita or Hutch to get out of the city and have some great 'home cooked food' by someone else! read more

Very nice place in the middle of nowhere :) I can't even remember how I found out about this place since its so remote and in a place where you wouldn't normally go unless you have a reason to go. It's old style traditional American food which is fresh, less processed with a great customer service. I've had fried chicken and country fried steak here. I visited family in KS in 2013. Drove over to Yoder to eat for a day out and about. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak dinner. It was NOT HOUSE BREADED as it used to be. I asked and they confirmed they were using pre-pkg'd Chicken Fried Steaks instead. Very sad. The overall meal was good, but still, I expected the real deal at the Carriage Crossing. The desserts are always good. sigh!! read more

I live not far from there. Am not that impressed with the service or the food for that matter. The music they play is crap right from the bowells of Branson MO. The atmosphere is that of a basketball court, NOISY. read more

Absolutely a wonderful place to eat with amazing home cooked food!! We love the atmosphere and the waitstaff. The desserts are homemade daily and you must try one of the HUGE cinnamon rolls!! My fav entree is the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner. The prices are very affordable!! read more

We have been wanting to come here for a long time and were able to stop here for lunch. The chicken fried steak was good, not great, but really good. The fried chicken was fantastic, they served home made bread with the meal. We split a piece of pie, till house, and it was amazing. Home cooking as advertised. We will be back. read more

Coming all the way from Washington to look ay colleges can be super nerve wracking. But eating here made me feel more at home. The food was absolutely delicious and if felt like I was eating it right inside my grandmas house. Our server, Logan, was very attentive and made the experience even better. By far the best pies in the state of Kansas. We had lunch and it was outstanding. Homemade and served by friendly staff. The only problem with pies is when they don't have the flavor you want, but that just means they are that good! Don't miss this little gem, especially if you are going to Kansas State Fair. This is THE place to go to after a long day at the State fair... Or pretty much when you're near/in Yoder. It feels very homey and I really like the staff. Ask for what's popular, and your waitress will give you more details. I especially like their country fried steak. For the two sides, I would recommend getting corn and fried sweet potato wedges! I am not a big fan of overly sweet things, but I hear they have delicious pies! I might just have to try a slice the next time I come back. read more

Pies are the best thing to come for, I had the turkey and it was in large chunks not sliced no cranberry sauce. Gravy was mad. I have had the chicken fried steak once it was sad my potato mash where brown. Vegetable soggy carrots. Green beans like they had no seasoning just heat up a can. I will come back and order a pie. I have been up for breakfast and the potatoes I would not order again the toast I will send back next time since it was not toast I had the roll and I never eat it and I love bread but I have not had one I would eat I would come back for a pie and I would only take a whole one home read more

doesn't live up to the hype. I was a member of a party of seven on a Thursday night. Place was busy, but by no means busy enough to warrant the meal being as cold & overcooked as it was. We had 3 fried chicken dinners. The chicken was dry & overcooked to the point the skin had been cooked off in places. The mashed potatoes & Gravy were luke warm & the potatoes had been sitting long enough that they were stilff. 6 meals were brought out & then we had to wait another five minutes before the final meal arrived. I have only great things to say about this restaurant. My family of 10 came in and got seated promptly; good thing too because we were very hungry. We opted to get the Family Style Dinner roast beef and fried chicken. They bring out big bowls of green beans, corn, homemade bread, fried chicken, roast beef, gravy, mashed potatoes ect. and you pass it around the table just like at home. It's all you can eat! The food was hot, moist and flavorful. The best part is the end of your meal. Do not leave without indulging in a piece of their pie. So many choices of flavors but you can't go wrong. Peanut butter chocolate cream cheese is my favorite. The service was quick and on top of it. We enjoyed every minute of our visit here and will make it a point to eat here again when passing through Yoder, KS. read more

the chicken fried steak was great, very thick breading which personally i dont prefer but the meat was very tender and the gravy was delicious would give 4 stars if it werent for the pie; we went around dinnertime when a lot of the pies had already sold out so the strawberry cheesecake i ordered wasn't fresh, but i shouldn't have eaten it since it looked like it had melted sitting at room temperature and then put back in the fridge. must have been the case because a few hours later i was horribly sick, mild case of food poisoning. no one else had any problems. good food otherwise, careful of the dairy products. if it looks funky say something read more

The restaurant had a very nice ambiance. We ordered the all white chicken and the whole catfish with sides of mashed potatoes, green beans and carrots. The side dishes were large with the carrots being the only one that was less than appetizing. They had been overcooked. Both the chicken and catfish were seasoned and cooked well. We had leftovers on almost everything. Yes, we will return to try some of the other menu items. read more

The pies are amazing... I'm going to be honest... I'm hormonal and I'm going to drive from Wichita up there to get a chocolate cream pie because my teenager ate the last piece. Crust to filling ratio is PERFECT. I also had a slice of blueberry when we were up there to eat, it was great. read more

Sorry to say that I stopped in to Carriage Crossing on my drive back to Wichita from Hutchinson. I've been there before, but it had been a couple of years. I don't know if there are new owners or what has happened, but it was not good. I bought a whole German Chocolate pie and the crust was tough and thick it almost wouldn't cut and the filling was a total letdown. It was also thick and tasteless. A total disappointment and I won't bother to stop there again. read more

I ordered the fried chicken dinner for myself and a sirloin for my fiancé. Pre meal you get fresh tools with honey butter which satisfied my growling stomach, and sweet tooth. The fried chicken is on point... crispy, juicy and great flavor! The sirloin while not expecting much for the cheap cut was cooked to order and also had a great juicy flavor. The sides on the other hand were the downfall, everything ordered from our table seemed to be pre made or canned. Not tasty. We used Carriage Crossing for our wedding catering. There is no comparison for local catering options! The price was VERY competitive to other caterers, but we didn't want to be another wedding that served BBQ. Their menu has enough options to please even the pickiest eaters, and we were able to have a tasting beforehand that helped us narrow down our menu. The food was hot, delicious, on time, and the staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Our guests loved the food and the pie! read more

We came in for breakfast on Saturday. I got the fried mush because I was intrigued with sausage gravy. My boyfriend ended up with the full breakfast of egg, sausage, home fries, and biscuits. We also grabbed a pancake. The biscuits were great, you can tell they are made with lard. The sausage wasn't as peppery as we like for a breakfast sausage. Home fries were a bit overcooked. The fired mush was too thin, would like a bit of "mush" to it, it was pretty solid. Gravy was good. Pancake was good, seemed to be made with cornmeal as it was dense. Also, CHEAP EATS! We also went home with a cinnamon roll, loaf of bread, and some apple butter. We had those today and all were excellent. Service was pretty standard. read more

Brought my family to Carriage Crossing for supper. I have heard many good reviews of Carriage Crossing, but I am afraid we were very disappointed. The bread was cold and falling apart. My chicken fried chicken was a triangle of over cooked chicken covered by yucky nasty gravy. The Chicken fried chicken was what I would expect from McDonald or worse. Our future son-in-law said the chicken fried looked like a Wendy's chicken patty.The famous Amish baked beans looked and tasted like it came from a can of Bush's baked beans. My wife's Chopped steak was held together with toothpicks wrapped around bacon. No one told her it had toothpicks in it and luckily she did not eat a toothpick. We must have been the only family in Kansas to have a nasty meal because all the other patrons were raving about their experience. read more

We live in Wichita and periodically take the drive to Yoder both to visit Anna at her Amish store of fabrics and Amish supplies on Red Rock Road, then to the Carriage Crossing Restaurant to enjoy their really "home-cooked" types of meals. Back in Wichita when we speak of the restaurant, our mouths water remembering the wonderful experiences of every time we have visited there for lunch or dinner. The people are friendly, the ambience is country and somewhat Amish, the Amish people are friendly, hard-working folks who most often wave when you come towards or pass their horse and carriage. I went there for breakfast yesterday..........had a horrible meal. My hashbrowns were burnt, the omelette had ham in it that was burnt.....the egg was like rubber. I spoke with the waitress and she said she would tell the cook. I don't feel like I should of had to pay for this meal.........she brought me my bill I took it up to the cash register and the women asked me how my meal was and I told her it was horrible. That my food was burnt and I did not eat it. I ate toast! I felt she should of at least taken part of my bill off or give me a gift certificate or something. We have been going there for years.........this is the first time I have ever been disappointed. I will never go back! read more

I had the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans...absolutely wonderful! The meat and potatoes were covered in thick gravy and our waitress was attentive and kind. On top of all that, my meal was only $8.49! I didn't have enough room left for pie, but they certainly looked wonderful. read more
