    Room #3

We spent a night at Carriage House during our first visit to Carmel. We were impressed immediately with the welcome we received when arriving 3 hours prior to check in. The room was beautiful with every detail covered. Breakfast brought to our room, wine reception in the early evening, covered parking and all within walking distance to Carmel's shopping and dining. Highly recommend and we look forward to our next visit.

We sat in the main restaurant and we had a stunning view of The City. We did check out the bar and that looked nice too. The service was awesome and the food delicious.

Just checked in and relaxing in this nice roomy room. With gas fireplace to take the chill Off on this drizzly day. Afternoon refreshments 5:00-6:00. Water, apple juice and Perrier in room fridge plus lots of snacks to munch on. Cozy bath robes Room service breakfast in the morning . Feeling so special and pampered. Excellent friendly staff!

For the price, this place is absolute steal. The location alone is reason to consider staying here. Walking distance to downtown Carmel - including some of the most amazing restaurants and shopping. And on top of that, the service and accomdations are stellar. The rooms are spacious and offer peace and quiet along with one of the most comfortable beds in the area. As other reviewers mention, the complimentary breakfast and nightly wine reception are an added bonus. Each evening, the staff puts out an inviting selection of cheese and pour up a better than decent red and white wine option giving you the opportunity to meet the friendly staff and other guests. I've stayed at other hotels in the area and have always had a great experience, but Carriage House is by far the best.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced b&b experience with thoughtful touches that will make your stay pleasantly memorable, this is absolutely the place for you! When I was researching spots for my boyfriend & I to celebrate our anniversary, I found Carriage House Inn and saw that it had great reviews on both Yelp and Google. Those reviews were spot on! Here are the things I really enjoyed about our stay: 1) The thoughtful touches. From the tissue shaped like a rose at the top of our tissue box, to the complimentary Perrier in our mini fridge, and the afternoon wine and cheese aperitif delivered right to our door, they didn't skimp on a single amenity to make us feel extra welcome. 2) The coziness of the room. I mean WOW! It was ideal for our romantic getaway: comfy robes, a giant bathtub big enough for the both of us (with jets!), a fireplace, and a window seat where we could sit and enjoy our breakfast. 3) The location. It's toward the entrance to downtown and toward the mission, with just enough distance from the main part of the street to miss the noise and traffic but close enough to walk to any restaurant, boutique, coffee shop, or even the beach within minutes. AND the parking is easy. This trip was a rare event for us (we're usually an outdoors/remote camping couple, and try to save money when we can) but staying here was absolutely worth the splurge and allowed us to relax and enjoy our time together. We can't wait to come back!

    Do they have an elevator?

I don't think so. However, there are downstairs suites, and the people are so lovely and helpful.

They've designed their hotel to look and feel like a little oasis. The intention was effective because it did feel like an enclosed paradise, quiet and pleasing to the eye. Complimentary bubbles upon arrival which i love! Dog blankets outside. Good looking bathrooms. Aesthetically pleasing place. Robes and slippers in rooms. Luxurious sheets. My husband didn't love the bed but perhaps he just has a sensitive preference for his back. the rooms were swanky but small but we didn't mind it for 2 nights only. we spent a lot of time enjoying the nice weather outside. One of the more expensive rooms on property, the courtyard 'suite,' is adjacent to the lounge area, so we heard conversation right outside our window until after 10pm. There was no effort to ask the group to move to another spot that would have been less disruptive, despite my ask to the front desk. We were charged $50 extra per child for our family of 2 adults and 2 children for a suite that has two rooms and two king beds. They have 4 charging stations for EV's, however parking is not enforced. There were non EV vehicles parked in those spaces the entirety of brief stay, so unfortunately we were inconvenienced by not being able to charge at a planned stopping point on our road trip. Next time I come to Carmel I'll be researching alternatives.

Opened in 2022, it feels brand new yet already timeless, with design that's both elegant and warm. The rooms? Incredible. Heated bathroom floors (yes, heated floors), a complimentary snack bar and fridge stocked with goodies, a sleek Dyson hairdryer, and even a fancy bidet -- every detail has been thought through. Our patio looked out toward the ocean, and at night you could hear the waves. But the real star of the show is breakfast. The coffee is excellent, the quiches are light and flavorful, and the almond croissants... wow. Hands down the best croissants I've ever had. I would come back just for those. Service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff made us feel so welcome -- kind, attentive, and genuinely happy to help. Add in the location (just steps from the beach), and this place checks every single box. If you're looking for a Carmel getaway that blends luxury with charm, Villa Mara is it.

They do offer a welcome drink that you can have upon arrival or whenever you'd like - we opted for the drink before we headed out to dinner and we were able to sit by the fireplace on a cozy couch. They offer cake to all guests at night in the lobby/bar area in addition to any of the snacks in the room. Breakfast was included although we were really excited about this other place in town. From what I saw the breakfast looked amazing! There's no parking lot, but there seemed to be plenty of places on the street. The experience was also disturbed by how unwilling, and unhelpful the receptionist / front desk woman was when we attempted to check in (she was an older Hispanic, heavy set woman). We explained that we were also dining at their restaurant, Aubergine (on premises) and we were hoping to be let into our room only one hour before check-in (3pm vs. 4pm), so that we could prepare ourselves properly for our 2-Michelin Star meal there at 5pm. Mind you, we also requested this when our reservation was made directly through their website (2 months in advance) + we were some of the only dinner guests at their restaurant that were spending the night. This receptionist was unbelievably rude I had to remind her that I was the guest! Later, they were able to get us in. I didn't understand why she could not be professional given their claim to service and luxury, sadly we experienced neither from her. Literally everyone else, which happened to be male, was extremely kind, attentive and helpful! ***For the price per night, the quality versus luxury ratio was not there for us.*** And with the rude, unprofessional behavior that almost guarantees no return. Hopefully they can get better staff and upgrades underway. It would be a shame to keep "letting it go" as it seems that they are doing now.

We booked one of the double rooms with a fireplace. While the room itself was fine, the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. From around 9pm to 1:00 AM, we could clearly hear footsteps from the room above us, along with conversations. It didn't seem like the guests upstairs were being intentionally disruptive -- it felt more like an issue with how the property is built and the lack of sound insulation. We did call the front desk and asked if they could notify the guests upstairs. After that, they were more mindful of their steps, which we appreciated, but we could still hear them trying to whispering. We chose this property because we were looking for a peaceful place to rest, reset, and enjoy quiet evenings. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For the amount we paid for a weekend stay, we expected much better soundproofing and overall comfort. Sadly, we won't be returning or recommending this property to our family or friends.
