The hospitality service workers were excellent and kind from the start of our stay. My girlfriend and I got into the area from San Jose. Hours before our room was ready. Their was a valet service to take our bags and park our car safely. While we relaxed, went to eat and have fun at the Monterrey bay aquarium for a bit... There was glasses of wine and a charcuterie Board of cheese and crackers there for guests when we came back to check in officially. The cheese was great, wish they had pepper jack. But that's just me being greedy. The room itself was lovely, cozy. And quite when needed/wanted. Especially since it was can be loud with the doors to the balcony open. The balcony of our room faced the main street (cannery row) which is perfect for us. We love people watching. Especially with a fireplace lit next to us. That was heaven, when we wanted to go to sleep. It was dead silent once we closed the doors to the balcony. No sound whatsoever from the street. Great wall mounted TV that we didn't even use. Just was happy to relax in that bed. Those pillows were very soft. The biggest surprise was the complimentary chocolates they gave us when we checked out. Not only was it unexpected. We stayed here again last weekend for 2 nights, to celebrate our Anniversary. We were given the corner cannery row/balcony room that we stayed in in December (we were happy about that) I left the French doors open at night and we could hear the ocean. They gifted us a bottle of Merlot and chocolates which was lovely. We did use our car more this time but everything is right there on cannery row including the aquarium. I wasn't quite sure about Spindrift at first because the decor reminded me of a place that hasn't been updated since the 1940's. They have optional valet, and it wasn't too expensive. I'd recommend it. We got there right at the end of their happy hour..or wine hour..Whatever they call it, I can't remember. It was nothing fancy, but it was a nice welcoming gesture. There was cheese, wine, crackers and fruit. Check- in was easy and the staff members were friendly, and offered suggestions of things we could do. My husband and i were here for our 16th wedding anniversary and they suggested some very nice things for us to do. You have to pre order breakfast, and it's delivered to your room. It's a light breakfast, but filling. Every time we encountered the front desk staff throughout our stay, they greeted us. And asked about our day. I loved how this place was at the end of Cannery Row. We weren't bombarded by the noise of tourists. It was nice and quiet. But because its still on Cannery Row, we were close to all of the wonderful shops and restaurants. When we got to our room, i was still overtaken by the out of date decor! I felt like i entered a time capsule haha. But almost immediately, i noticed the beautiful view. And upon making our reservation, I requested Sparkling cider and a flower arrangement. The hotel recommended a local florist, and everything was displayed so beautifully in our room. I was quickly able to get past the decor. The view was spectacular! We got an ocean view room and we were right above the beach. I immediately opened the window because i LOVE the sound of waves crashing. I was in heaven!! Later in our stay we saw dolphins swimming about as we were admiring our view! It was so magical. The room itself was very clean and the bed was so cozy and comfortable. I called to book a room for the weekend and fyi you get a small discount if billing directly. The only room they had available was a king bed with patio but next time I'd like to book earlier and request an ocean view room since our room faced cannery row and it could be a little loud at night. The lights from the downtown area were easily blocked with their blackout curtains and the doors kept out most of the noise. This hotel has a great location of being right in the middle of cannery row and being walking distance to the aquarium, restaurants, shops and the coast trail. They have valet only parking $37 but next time I'd prefer to find my own parking since there's plenty of parking spots nearby. My highlights from this stay were the wine reception which had lots of crackers, cheese, olives and fruit offered. They were pouring a merlot and reisling when we were there. Our room looked a little dated but was clean and had a nice patio to hangout. My main complaint is the rusty flower planters since we have a crawling baby but just be careful if you're traveling with kids. The flower boxes had rusty edges that looked like a trip to the hospital for a tetanus shot. The bathroom was a good size with a tub and shower combo. They have the regular amenities of soap, shampoo and qtip pack and plenty of towels. Housekeeping was wonderful. They have room service till 10p with a big menu and the restaurant downstairs looked quite popular and very convenient if you're traveling with family. They also had a pillow menu which I didn't take advantage of. Breakfast is ordered night before by putting a filled out menu on your door and is a continental style with small pastries, cold cereal, coffee tea or juice, fruit plate, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. Basic but nice to have it delivered to the room every morning. Overall we had a nice stay here and I'd come here again. read more

So when I called Spindrift, I was met with a kind, patient person who was more than willing to kindly answer all my questions. She took care of my reservation and we had a lovely room. If you're looking for a nice place that is a lovely boutique style inn, not a thin wall corporate room...this is the place for you. We absolutely loved our room, with a cannery row view (I love people watching), and partial ocean view. With the window open, I could hear the pounding of the waves at night, the sea gulls, and people having fun on the streets. The rooms are beautiful and everyone there is extremely friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back! read more

A boutique hotel located in the middle of Cannery Row, overlooking the bay with a small beach. Our room was an ocean view queen room with a fireplace. You get a continental breakfast delivered to your room every morning and if you want it, the attached restaurant does room service. You have a coffee pot (Kuerig) and refrigerator in the room, with real glasses, wine and drinking, as well as a wine opener. There is a window seat (windows open to enjoy the breeze and sound of the waves), and supplied binoculars so we were able to enjoy watching otters and seals play. Sadly no whales sight this time. We recently stayed here for one night for a quick birthday getaway I took my two kids and my hubby. We stayed in a double bed Ocean view and it was just beautiful. My daughter said the room looked like we were in Cinderella. It was really cute because the beach is right there, if you open the window, you're able to hear the waves. Monterey has a very nice quiet, relaxing vibe. I was able to wake up at sunrise, and me and my daughter watched it from the window. they bring you complementary continental breakfast, which was nice to sip coffee and watch the sunrise. The room was pretty spacious for the four of us. My daughter ended up sleeping on the nook by the window because that's where she preferred. The room got a little warm during the night with the fireplace, but you're able to crack a window and feel the nice breeze. This place is really cute and it's right in the center of Cannery Row. We ended up walking to the aquarium the next day and we were able to leave our car in the valet service . the workers there are very nice especially the valet and bus guys. They do offer complementary wine and cheese during the evening which is a nice touch. I was in between this hotel and a couple other ones but I think this one was a great choice because it's pretty affordable and right in the center of everything. Very cute for an anniversary birthday or even if you just want to have a cute quiet getaway with the kids beds were pretty comfortable although the pillows were soft. I'd come back. read more

The hotel is surrounded by a plethora of restaurants and shopping and only a 5 minute walk to the aquarium. The hotel puts out a small charcuterie spread between 430-6 pm with complimentary wine. Stayed here a night back in November. The place was cute and the room itself was nice, but the check-in process was frustrating. I booked through a third party that clearly advertised an ocean-view room, but when I arrived the staff said my reservation wasn't for that. I showed them the listing, and the manager mentioned this has happened before with third-party sites, but they still couldn't honor it. If it's a known issue, it really should be addressed. They offered an ocean-view upgrade at a discounted rate, but it still meant paying more right then, which felt disappointing. Staff didn't show much empathy, and my girlfriend was let down. Really felt the warmth of the hotel right when you walked in. Staff was so welcoming and pleasant. Our arrival was seamless, parked and got into our hotel room within 10 minutes maybe even five minutes. Hotel room was a dream. The views and the vibes were incredible. I felt like I was dropped right into a Nancy Meyers movie. This is located walking distance to everything and anything. It was the perfect cozy vacation for me and my family. As soon as we got out of our car, hotel staff was knocking it out of the park, helping us get our luggage and all out of our car, getting us checked in, up to our room, and downright making us feel at home. The picture on this listing looks like the room we were in. My only criticisms are not everyone staying there knew to leave their breakfast trays in their rooms (stacked on the Cardenas by the elevator) and that they needed to call for their vehicles before leaving their rooms when they checked out. read more

My wife and I were fortunate to have enough airline miles to stay at the Spindrift Inn for one night without having to pay out of pocket (besides the mandatory $40/night valet fee of course). I feel like if we would have spent money to stay here, my review would likely be a bit worse, so please interpret the following with that in mind. The Spindrift Inn is located in a perfect spot right on Cannery Row. It is super easy to find and we had no issues parking in the loading zone to unload our luggage and check-in. The staff were kind, friendly, and supportive. The check-in process was a breeze and then my wife and I took the tremendously slow elevator to our 3rd floor accommodations. We stayed in a normal King size room facing Cannery Row. It seems that the going rate during the time of our trip (July) was around $400 a night including taxes and fees which is a lot of money. Upon entering the room, everything looked nice and elegant but, unfortunately, as suggested by many other reviews, the place could use some renovating. The bed was excessively firm and uncomfortable. There was no air conditioning in the room. There were four windows but each window had no window screen and also the street noise was quite loud. There was a fan that was semi-controlled by a switch on the wall. We were initially confused and assumed that there must be some sort of remote to control the fan but, alas, we had to pull a little chain on the fan for it to run. The refrigerator was not very cool and my wife determined that it seemed to work better when we left its cabinet door open to improve ventilation. There were stains on one of the chairs in the room so we did not get the opportunity to sit together to eat the lousy continental breakfast (it was not filling, satisfying, or delicious by any stretch). The worst part was the bathroom. It was small and stuffy as it did not appear that there was a functioning exhaust fan in the bathroom. The sink worked okay but the tub did not drain properly while taking showers. Moreover, the shower nozzle sprayed water in different directions with a relatively low water pressure. Despite all of these negatives, the room was clean, the staff were wonderful, and the location was perfect. So many different places, including the aquarium are within easy walking distance of the Spindrift. It was so nice to have our car safely parked all day/night to allow us to enjoy the sights and sounds of Monterey. Staff also allowed us to keep our car in the valet lot until a little after our check-out time and held our bags for us. The valet staff kindly loaded our car for us after retrieving our car. This hotel is probably no better than a two-star hotel if you ignore the location and service. However, the location and quality of service to us is a super important aspect of a good hotel and, as such, we believe that the Spindrift is worthy of 4 stars. If we spent cash rather than airline miles, however, I am unsure if anything more than a 3 star review could be justified. read more

First time staying at this inn. Location is fantastic, walking distance to everything from restaurants and shops to a 5 min walk to the aquarium. Lots of restaurants on the strip but it is a bit pricey since it's a touristy location. The staff at the inn is very courteous, helpful, and professional. 10/10 for the staff. The bedding and the room itself is up to par. It's a older inn so don't expect perfection. I would give it a 8/10 for the room. The fireplace is a nice feature to enjoy. Love the nice fresh air from the big windows. Please note that there is no heater or AC in any of the rooms. Our stay does include free breakfast: hard boiled eggs, drinks, yogurt, cereal, some fresh fruits and pastries. Nothing overwhelming but a nice little morning snack. In the afternoon from 4-6pm they offer complimentary wine and cheese in the lobby. Overall we would stay here again since it meets all of our expectations and needs. This hotel was recommended by a very dear friend and I'm so glad we stayed here. The location is perfect and the pillows, bedding and chairs were all comfortable. Sauna in room was a welcome surprise. The staff was more than pleasant and the water in the bathroom nice and hot. The only change I would make is to choose a water facing room next time. I wanted to leave the windows open all night but with a street facing room and the noise from the bar across the street until about 1am it was difficult (not the hotels fault). However, noise was fine with windows closed. Street noise dies down a lot after midnight. Valet parking is a breeze. read more

My husband and I booked this hotel for two nights to celebrate our anniversary. On the second night, a wedding party showed up and occupied at least two to three rooms next to us and across from us. The people staying in those rooms were yelling, slamming doors, and being absolutely rowdy until about 3:30 in the morning. We called the front desk and they sent someone to talk to them about the noise and things were quiet for 10 minutes at 2:30am, but the noise unfortunately resumed after that. At checkout, I asked if there was any compensation offered after the awful night we had, but we were only offered $50 by the manager for the $400 night stay. My mom and I came to Monterey for a few days on a little mother/daughter trip and stayed at the spindrift inn. The room we had was facing Cannery row and had a king size bed and even a sauna in the bathroom which was pretty neat- room 411! Pros: They have 3 pillow options based on firmness, complimentary wine and cheese in lobby every day from 4:30-6 and location is prime being super close to a lot of shops and restaurants making it easily walkable. They also offered a little breakfast of egg, yogurt, coffee and pastry which was nice. The staff was polite and always greeted us when we entered the hotel. Jude was especially awesome! He helped with our luggage to the room on arrival and was very personable. Cons: The downside to the street facing windows was at night you hear people coming and going a lot and early in the morning all the businesses get their deliveries and the garbage truck comes by so it's pretty noisy. I think next time I would pay the extra $$ to be on the ocean view side of the hotel. I would stay here again!! I loved our time here , I docked a star because of the noise read more

It's a very charming hotel that has kept its vintage vibe while also being very clean and comfortable. It was so nice for us to be able to disconnect and open our room window onto the beach in our robes with a fire going. Can't beat that. Loved the complimentary room service breakfast as well. Spent four delightful days at the Spindrift! The staff is super friendly! The rooms are quaint and cozy! The daily breakfast delivery and wine social in the evening are wonderful bonus amenities! The seaside ocean rooms have a stellar view. We could see otters playing in the surf and even spotted dolphins swimming by. And there is a small beach right outside! The location is perfectly positioned in the middle of all the best places in town. The aquarium is a five minute walk away and the whale watching boats at Fisherman's Wharf are only a mile down the road. There are also great seaside hikes nearby. And no shortage of yummy restaurants all around. This was my first stay but certainly won't be my last! FIVE STARS!!! read more

My fiancé proposed just about an hour before we arrived and the lady at the front desk was so nice. We got a complimentary bottle of wine and a room upgrade for a great price. We were able to enjoy our stay with stunning views of the beach. It really was the highlight of our vacation being able to fall asleep and wake up to the sounds of the waves. Staff here was amazing, helpful and very nice. They also offer complimentary breakfast, you would just need to fill a paper they give you and leave it on your door before a certain time. As well as wine, cheese and crackers in the lobby around 4-6pm. We requested for them to bring to our room and there was no problem at all. Whenever we had requests they would bring it to us promptly. Rooms also have a fireplace with a timer, and when the weather gets cold at night it is such a comfortable addition! They left us a little box of chocolates and a sweet note in our room. Yes, there is a valet parking fee but they make it so convenient. You can call down for your car so it's ready to go by the time you get downstairs. We enjoyed the complimentary wine hour and continental breakfast. You fill out a little card on what you would like for breakfast and what time and they deliver the next morning. On certain days they also have snacks to go with the wine.
