Wow, we loved our dinner at Mission Ranch! First of all, the prime rib was cooked to perfection... so tender and the fat melts in your mouth. It comes with zucchini and a twice baked potato that are also incredible. The free bread basket has fresh garlic bread and was so delicious too! Their views are unbeatable. And the vibes are great too with live music and singing at the piano in front of the restaurant. Definitely show up early to put your name on the list since there can be a 1-2 hour wait. We were told a 90 min wait, but it ended up only being 1 hour. We hung out in front of the sheep pasture & the drove around Carmel while we waited. It was perfect!

The Mission Ranch Restaurant in Carmel, California has its history dating back to the 1850s, when the land was used as a dairy farm. It fell into disrepair, and the valuable land was going to be turned into condominiums in 1986. Instead, the mayor of Carmel at the time, Clint Eastwood, purchased the ranch and restored it, changing its use to be a hotel and restaurant, which it is still today. My wife, her mom, and I were staying nearby during our visit to Carmel, and after visiting the basilica, decided to stop in for an early dinner. We found the experience to be memorable. The restaurant has inside seating, and the coveted outdoor patio seating overlooking a 22 acre pasture leading down to the river. The Sunday brunch had ended at 13:30, and the restaurant had reopened at 15:00 for something called early grazing (limited cocktail seating and cold appetizer menu). Dinner starts at 17:00, and reservations are not accepted, so wasn't sure how long the wait would be. We got there by 16:30, parking in the spots for the hotel and walking to the restaurant. There was a line leading into the restaurant, so that gave a clue of where to go. Once we got to the front, put our name down and given a pager. We were given a choice of indoor or outdoor, but since were told the outdoor wait would be 90 minutes, chose indoor instead. We weren't given a wait time, but were told a better idea would be given once dinner service began at 5. There isn't much to see or do, so found some bench seating and waited. A continuous stream of people continued to put their name down. There's definitely a priority/VIP system here, which makes sense, and it seemed like hotel guests were given priority. At 5, there was a longer line that didn't move nearly as fast, and the hostess announced to the line that outdoor seating had a 2 plus hour wait. At 17:11, the pager went off. As we followed the server, she mentioned that they had found us a table outside and that hopefully we didn't mind (we were delighted). The patio was indeed full and our table was at the back, but still did provide some nice scenery. It was quite brisk outside and the heaters were all going pretty good...even then it was good that we had brought sweaters/jackets. The dinner took about 1.5 hours to complete (felt longer, probably because it was a bit chilly). Service was adequate (nothing rude but certainly not warm either), which was fine. Complementary fresh bread was given, and it was delicious. Beverage service items were a Coke ($4), Aspall Cyder ($9) which my wife enjoyed, and Firestone Walker Cali Orange on tap ($10) which was really good. We ordered two appetizers: a bowl of their clam chowder ($10) which was outstanding, with plenty of clams, perfect consistency, and great flavor and a Mixed Green Salad ($10) that we shared. For main courses (came out over an hour after we got seated), my wife got the beef bourguignon ($42) whose flavor she enjoyed (I stole all the pearl onions and shitake mushroom which I adore, and she doesn't like). The beef chunks (said to be prime NY strip and filet mignon...so basically a T-bone?) were very good, though of course, I wish there was more. It sat on top of whipped potatoes. Her mom got the smoked pork ribs ($36): it was plentiful (a full slab) and the steak fries and cole slaw were good. The dish I got (catch of the day ($38), which ended up being Hawaiian Snapper) was my favorite. It was a THICK loin and had been cooked perfectly, pan fried on the outside to produce a nice crisp crust, but moist on the inside. I enjoyed the sauce that came with it, along with the purple potatoes and asparagus. Dessert was offered, but by this time we had hit the 90 minute mark so decided to call it a night. The check was paid at the table and we slowly walked back to the car. It was a really good dining start to our Northern California visit.

Wow! This place is fantastic! On our last night in town, we ate dinner here. We arrived a little after 5pm and were told it was 60-90 minute wait, which we were fine with. We were able to get seats at the bar and hung out there until our table was ready at about the 90 min mark. The vibe of the building, views, quality of service and food/drinks were all top notch. I had a steak, and my girl, had the bolognese. Both were fantastic. This spot was the highlight of my 3 days trip. The next time I visit the area I'll definitely eat here again. I'd want to stay at the resort as well.

Mission ranch can't be missed when visiting Carmel! The atmosphere is so serene - the view of the ranch with the sheep, and the ocean peaking in the background is something really special. I came here fully acknowledging that dinner at Mission Ranch is likely more for the experience than the food itself. I was pleasantly surprised with what we ordered! The fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and carrot ginger soup being my favorite. We also got creme brûlée at the end and it was 10/10. Can't wait to come back for their cocktail hour!

This place was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! We loved the views the food was amazing and the service great! We dined inside this time cause we were already at the bar and the wait for the patio was long. But next time when we have more time would love to get on the patio. The views are amazing! 10/10 recommend.

We were looking forward to eating at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch Restaurant. It was a good experience, but not a great one. The restaurant itself is an old farmhouse, and lends itself to the shabby chic. The place is clean and well kept, but certainly not upscale. We ordered the pork ribs and the baked sea scallops. We try to keep reviews as positive as we can, so of the ribs we simply say: choose another option. Like, for instance, the baked sea scallops! Delicious in a wine based broth with bread soaking up the goodness! Well worth ordering! Service was very good, with a staff who are friendly and accurate. Except for a few special occasions, the restaurant does not take reservations, so plan to arrive at least a half hour before you want to eat. The ranch grounds are beautiful and interesting, and worth a quiet walk after dinner. We liked it (mostly), and we think you will as well.

The Two Eggs (Any Style) breakfast and the French Toast were both exceptional, delivering the exact kind of comforting, classic execution you want from a traditional morning meal. The hospitality on the patio was incredibly attentive, perfectly complementing a breathtaking atmosphere where clear ocean views meet the charming sight of sheep grazing in the meadow nearby. It proved to be a phenomenal vacation highlight, and a return visit for an evening glass of wine is definitely on the horizon.

Had a great classic evening dinner here. The ambiance and people watching is terrific-- food takes a back seat to the back drop in my opinion. The service was fine, drinks were ok, and food was good. You have to know what you're getting coming here-- more for the experience than the food. Timeless place!

My mom grew up watching Clint Eastwoods show & has never been to Carmel so it was her first time & I thought why not take her here to his mission ranch. Came on a Sunday for their brunch! We got there 30 minutes early and there was already a long line. Bathrooms are located directly where the line is near the entrance of the restaurant Staff seats guests groups at a time there was 2 ladies seating groups & they asked our preference inside or outside, we chose outside because it was a clear blue sky sunny day. Our waitress was lovely & after she took our orders for drinks water & mimosas we were up and grabbing our food. Inside a man was playing the piano. The view was breathtaking we had front row to the sheep grazing and even caught a few scratching their backs on the tree branches too cute. If you look passed the sheep you can see the beach. Stunning. We started at the dessert station to grab what we knew we could finish Then we made our way to the team of two gentlemen working side by side creating our omelettes, such hard workers and were really quick at taking omelette requests/cooking while keeping the line moving, at the end of the omelette station they're also cutting us our prime rib. Everything was tasty, they also have a fish/salad bar station & I was pretty stuffed but ended up getting a Greek salad at the end of my meal. By the time we left all the dessert was gone but staff was stocking more & there was still a long line outside. We will def be back for Sunday brunch when back in the area!

Saved from demolition and development in the 80s by Clint Eastwood and lovingly and gently remodeled, Mission Ranch has a homey, nostalgic feel. We ate in their casual restaurant that overlooks sheep and deer, in a field leading to the Pacific Ocean. The food was equally nostalgic with traditional entrees like prime rib, filet minion, rack of lamb, catch of the day, half a roast chicken, pasta and even cheesy bubbly potato skins. They don't take reservations, so we dropped in on a Friday and waited an hour for a table. The views are impressive, service is friendly, and dining here feels like time travel. Recommended.

Our first time visiting! We arrived on a Saturday around 4:45 to get in line for dinner service at 5. The line looked long, so I was worried, but when we put our name down they told us we'd be seated by 5:15, which was a nice surprise! We were seated right away, and the staff were very attentive. The complimentary garlic bread was fresh and delicious. We skipped appetizers and ordered our entrées quickly. My husband got the New York steak, and I had the fettuccine Alfredo. Unfortunately, it took a very long time for our food to come out. Tables seated after us were getting their meals before we did. Our server apologized and mentioned a large party slowing down the kitchen, but it was confusing since everyone around us seemed to get their food at a normal pace. When our dishes finally arrived, they were excellent. Definitely worth the wait. We shared the pecan pie for dessert, and both the pie and the ice cream were delicious. Overall, we didn't leave until after 7 because of the slow food service. Given the delay, it would have been nice to at least have dessert comped. Still, the food was great, the staff were kind, and the views are beautiful. We'd definitely come back!

We picked the perfect location to celebrate our 50th anniversary... Terrific location wonderful staff with a warm greeting! Our room felt like a cottage with that old school vibe with modern touches as well. Super relaxing environment and so fun to see the sheep grazing in the field. We enjoyed an excellent dinner as we requested a corner window of view away from the piano bar so we could enjoy a relaxing dinner ! We definitely wanna come back... Very relaxing and chill !

Fence line of the sheep's pasture, with the restaurant and Farmhouse in the distance.

We recently stayed in the Farmhouse at Carmel Mission Ranch. I rented the entire Farmhouse, with 6 bedrooms each with its own bathroom. It was Perfect for our sibling reunion (with spouses). Really I can't tell you how perfect this was for us. The Farmhouse has a very large living room, with a fireplace and baby grand piano. I asked for a mini frig, which they provided. We ate several dinners at the restaurant, which were delicious and well prepared. And if you're guest at the Ranch (as we were), one gets priority seating at dinner. We walked a lot. Into town, over to the mouth of the river, and at Point Lobos. We're already talking about coming back for 2026. We recently stayed in the Farmhouse at Carmel Mission Ranch. He has 0 customer service skills and should not be customer facing. He had minimal eye contact, cold demeanor as if we were bothering him, mumbling, and just overall unpleasant. He had the demeanor of a bro cashier at a GNC. There was a guy next to him which I assume was IT or something since he was messing with something at the front. There was a woman who brought us a welcome glass of champagne, and Angel - who gave us a brief tour and brought our luggage to the room. Angel and the woman were nice. Champagne was good, however I wish they offered non alcoholic options like a juice or sparking cider. Throughout our stay, we encountered many staff on the property in passing - not a single smile from any of them. Even the housekeeping staff at a BestWestern are nicer than the staff here. - Room: gorgeous but small. Booking a room for 2 does not just mean having a big enough bed, but actually room for 2 humans to move around. There is not enough room to lay your luggage out anywhere, and the bathroom was narrow. I would've liked to have a towel bar by the sink instead of having a silly rock be what holds the towel up. The room is aesthetically stunning and the bed was very comfortable. I loved the ambient lighting options and motion activated under-lighting. I liked that we had a balcony. I enjoyed the soaps / lotions, as well all the nespresso in the room. Air conditioning worked well. Room was very clean. - Parking: parking was easy in the day. We lucked out at night but guests arriving after 8pm had nowhere to park, which we witnessed first hand. We saw a guest told the staff "the lot is full", and the staff said "just take the EV spot". What about your guests with EVs who need to charge their cars for the night? On another day, a large car was parked in the entrance into the hotel (not the street) and stayed there for 15 min which blocked entry for everyone else - i wish the staff came out to inform the guest that they couldn't leave their car the. The main lot is very tight with slim spots and awkward parking angles, but the back lot was good . While this wasn't an issue for me, I can imagine coming off of a long flight, finally getting to the hotel at night, and being frustrated at the lack of available parking. - Breakfast: this is the main reason we wanted to stay here. The breakfast itself is good, not great. The French toast, juice, chia pudding and eggs are best things - everything else is okay as I found some things to be stale such as the waffles and muffins. I did enjoy how the food is displayed, and there lots of variety. Staff is constantly refilling items so you never have to worry about things running out, regardless of when you arrive for breakfast. Breakfast is much later than it is at other hotels, and with a small window (8-10am), which can be an issue if you are planning to eat early prior to a hike. 2 staff stay in the area however they just stare at you from the corner of the room. No smile, no good morning. The first day, I felt like we were being stared at as if we were freeloaders sneaking in for free breakfast. It was very uncomfortable. Not sure if they were staring because we're younger than a majority of the other guests but there really is no excuse. I think they should do a wrist band system or something if they insist on eyeing people. Property- they have a cafe by the breakfast area where you can order hand crafted pizza. We didn't do this but it smelled great. The location is convenient with lots of restaurants within walking distance . As a hotel guest, you get a discount at the Foray restaurant, which is closed mondays and Tuesdays Overall: Beautiful, but I don't think I'd stay again. For the price point and all the amenities, I expected to be in love with this hotel. At other hotels with this price point, I'm usually like "I don't want leave!", but not here. It wasn't a bad stay, but the experience didn't match the price point. I hope they get better staff or else I could see this hotel failing in the future.

Unfortunately, the guest rooms --or more specifically, Room 207 leaves a lot to be desired. As others have noted, the rooms are indeed small and in need of updating. Bed comfort is subjective. I've stayed at plenty of hotels and generally never had trouble falling asleep, but I did find both the bed and pillows to be overly firm and uncomfortable. The bigger disappointment for me was the noise. 207 is the closest room to the 2nd floor staircase landing, and there's a hallway bench right outside the room door. On multiple occasions, I had to listen to someone sitting on the bench right outside my door talking loudly on their phone before heading downstairs. The utility closet next to Room 207 also resulted in unwanted noise. And there was persistent noise coming from the alleyway directly below my room windows --loud talking, laughing, singing and coughing late into the night and early morning. The hotel staff I interacted with were all friendly and helpful and the building is ideally located in the heart of downtown Carmel. I expected more though for what worked out to be a $600 a night stay.

They will also include two flasks where you can refill water in the station outside. I highly recommend coming here and will definitely visit again.

They are also not "cookie cutter" in the same sense as, perhaps, Four Seasons or Ritz Carltons may be. L'Auberge is very European in its presentation, and the rooms intentionally reflect old world quaint rather than contemporary efficiency - which is to be expected given the history of the property itself. Service - excellent, personal, warm. Other guests - in our anecdotal, friendly, warm, and down to earth. We enjoyed after-dinner drinks with folks down at the small bar off the lobby one evening and had a delightful time. They have a car service (as well as mandatory valet) which made getting around to dinner and such quite easy. And, as I've reviewed elsewhere, the restaurant on first floor is the 2 Michelin star Aubergine, which is recommended if you want a fine dining experience during your stay. For special occasions (like our anniversary and my wife's birthday), consider L'Auberge in your possible options.

The experience was also disturbed by how unwilling, and unhelpful the receptionist / front desk woman was when we attempted to check in (she was an older Hispanic, heavy set woman). We explained that we were also dining at their restaurant, Aubergine (on premises) and we were hoping to be let into our room only one hour before check-in (3pm vs. 4pm), so that we could prepare ourselves properly for our 2-Michelin Star meal there at 5pm. Mind you, we also requested this when our reservation was made directly through their website (2 months in advance) + we were some of the only dinner guests at their restaurant that were spending the night. This receptionist was unbelievably rude I had to remind her that I was the guest! Later, they were able to get us in. I didn't understand why she could not be professional given their claim to service and luxury, sadly we experienced neither from her. Literally everyone else, which happened to be male, was extremely kind, attentive and helpful! ***For the price per night, the quality versus luxury ratio was not there for us.*** And with the rude, unprofessional behavior that almost guarantees no return. Hopefully they can get better staff and upgrades underway. It would be a shame to keep "letting it go" as it seems that they are doing now.

We booked one of the double rooms with a fireplace. While the room itself was fine, the walls and ceilings are extremely thin. From around 9pm to 1:00 AM, we could clearly hear footsteps from the room above us, along with conversations. It didn't seem like the guests upstairs were being intentionally disruptive -- it felt more like an issue with how the property is built and the lack of sound insulation. We did call the front desk and asked if they could notify the guests upstairs. After that, they were more mindful of their steps, which we appreciated, but we could still hear them trying to whispering. We chose this property because we were looking for a peaceful place to rest, reset, and enjoy quiet evenings. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For the amount we paid for a weekend stay, we expected much better soundproofing and overall comfort. Sadly, we won't be returning or recommending this property to our family or friends.

The homemade breakfast is amazing - warm mini-quiches, yummy pastries, yogurt & berries. Don't go crazy on the cookies and pastries here though- I did and experienced the horrible sugar crashes everyday, sob. The rooms are adorable, clean, and updated - with the most cozy beds too. The staff members are also the sweetest. Sandy is wonderful and make sure to say hi to Butters too, her adorable pup. Walkable to downtown Carmel & easy parking.
