We were excited to get fresh seafood to take home and unfortunately everything we bought ended up being bad. We got a whole fish (which they said they couldn't debone but could descale it?) and it smelled so bad. It had meat that was disintegrating as we tried to butcher it. Then the scallops (sea scallops) looked funny to me. My suspicions were right because cutting in half I found they were either a bunch of tiny bay scallops shoved together in a perfect "scallop" mold, or it was something else- definitely not sea scallops. I'm sorry Yelp; I'm going to need a minute with this one. I have just decided to give details without opinions. Family of 4 with 5 and 2 yr old. Loved the laid back atmosphere but it could be considered a bit garagey, weird stains and all. They were only boiling food that day. The crab legs were very good but the shrimp were not. The legs were also a little pricey with having the additional cost of steaming. Frankly after the wait in the 8 seater place, smoking customers and all, I wish I had just purchased them to go and cooked at home. Seriously need to warn customers that smoking is allowed in there. It's very small and half restaurant (two small bistro tables and 6 or so counter/stools) half seafood market. There is probably better places to sit and eat if you are from out of town. Maybe stop in for some entertaining clientele and see if their full menu is available. read more

No doubt, if this review was strictly on the food and service it would be FIVE STARS but while the food was very good the smokers weren't expected. (If you have a problem with cigarette smoke, get carry out!) Both my husband and I ordered the shrimp, fish, and fries. All fried. VERY yummy. Awesome local fried seafood for an awesome local somewhat divey dine-in experience OR carry out. We got ours to go but were completely in awe when we showed up to pick it up. They've been around for awhile... I wasn't told that, but you can tell. The place is lined with shelves of seafood themed nic-nacs and trinkets along with some hanging ones... so neat!! The previous reviews must be paid reviews or those people are crazy. This place stinks to high hell. I would buy raw seafood from them, for years the service and quality just kept declining. There are flies everywhere, inside outside you name it. The shrimp would be turning color, going bad and mushy. Born and raised eating and catching seafood, I know what fresh food is supposed to look, smell, and feel like. Most of the time I would come because they open later than others. I'm visiting South Carolina for work and decided to go here for some seafood. Their pictures looked good so decided to give it a shot. First thing to note is if you plan on dining in, your clothes WILL SMELL strongly of seafood after you leave. As soon as I stepped into this place you could get a sense of the great friendly staff. They were the nicest people greeting you with big smiles and that great southern hospitality. I got the pound of shrimp, which was delicious with their hot garlic seasoning. I suggest if you're not a fast eater that you get half a pound because it cools down pretty quickly and the shrimp were delicious when they were steaming hot. Shrimp, fries ,and a sweet tea all for $18. Not too shabby in my opinion. The friendly staff really did push this review up to 5 stars. read more

The place is so awesome. The seafood is fresh and it''a cooked to perfection. One person stated "never judge book by its cover". And that is definitely true about this place. The folks working at this seafood restaurant and market are genuine and friendly. My wife and I went to this restaurant while we were in Charleston because my wife wanted to some cooked blue crabs and this was the only place we found that had what she wanted. And I must say my wife enjoyed her crabs and I enjoyed my seafood platter along with steamed shrimp. This will definitely be my wife and I go to spot whenever we visit Charleston in the future. We are always looking for good seafood spots when we travel and this is one of our favorites that we will definitely patronize when we are in the area. Well the only 4 crabs out of the dozen that were not tiny would have been nice if they were NOT DEAD. Their solution was first that the crabs were just sleeping and then after an hour went by to bring them back for replacement. When I told her that that wasn't acceptable she hung up on me. Then, the lady rather abruptly started doing something else before wandering out the door without handing us off to anyone else that could help us, leaving to wait again. I must sound the alarm on this one. P-l-e-as-e be mindful when it comes to purchasing raw seafood or fish! Any establishment that specializes in Seafood of any sort should be mindful of the careful handling and storing of this type of food. For the safety of well-being, this place is due for a visit by the health inspector department. When the odor is very fishy, please stay away. It was 101 degrees at the time of our visit. I'm not sure if something was rotten or if the AC system was broken down. But it was humid in that place. Temperature should be chilled below 60 degrees at least. Please stay away, the stench was so powerful, I could barely open my mouth. We stayed less than sixty seconds. One of the clerks asked if I had questions. My reply: " No, I'm good." Then without giving myself away, backed out of the door. When we got into the vehicle, the overpowering order stayed in my clothes for the next several minutes before leaving. PLEASE STAY AWAY FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. A fish market must be fresh and clean and free of stale fish odors! read more
