Brought my 90 year-old mother here after hip surgery for acute rehab. HORRIBLE place - took her home after 4 days. In that time, she only had 1 PT session; the food disgusting; the RN giving out medicine was beyond hateful. The facility was old and dingy. read more

I added this business over two months ago. I have been putting this writing off. So I will start now... They took care of my dad with patience and care. Whenever I visited, I was treated warmly, and my father was always resting comfortably in a clean room and a pristine bed, with carefully laundered, comfortable clothes. He had dementia, so he was unable to tell us how the staff was treating him (and never having been the type of person to complain) we had to take non-verbal cues. All the cues pointed to a staff that was both patient and caring. Trust was essential to us and something we considered heavily before deciding on a place for our beloved father. During his final days, our family experienced feelings that I cannot properly put into words here. Likewise, I am unable to express how sensitive the staff was in their treatment of my father. I imagine that they deal with loss on a regular basis, but never once did they regard our grief casually. My father was a kind, gentle, man and was known for his singing voice, his whistling, his love of jazz and his love of the Word. The staff made sure he was able to enjoy all these things during his final days. They all knew him by name, and said he was easy to care for and easy to care about. This was evident in their heartfelt farewell. You can not pay someone to care, and [care] is what they did here. Perhaps I have not adequately relayed, but in my heart I will absolutely, always appreciate every last member of this staff for giving of themselves so selflessly, when it counted most. read more

Dad is 98.5 years old and has lost the strength and muscles in his legs necessary to stand and to walk. If he stayed in his assisted living facility he would have to move to a small memory care area where he might have received at least some assistance, but not necessarily the rehabilitative therapy he needed. As he was being discharged from Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews the case worker suggested nearby Carrington Place, a skilled nursing facility with a very capable and well-manned and equipped rehabilitation operation; but also long-term residential beds if that option became necessary for dad. Located in the town of Matthews, NC the location is within 2 miles of the hospital and plenty of medical offices and specialist services. Very convenient to restaurants, shopping and other amenities, especially nice for out-of-town visitors. The rehabilitation group is superb. Dad is engaged in both occupational and physical therapy six times a week. Joking with him he gave a resigned smile when I told him that he was back in boot camp. He is learning how to get out of bed and into a wheelchair, wheelchair to toilet and back again. He needs upper body strength building as well as balance and walking practice. What a wonderful crew of therapists. They care, they know what they are doing and they don't allow their patients to goof off or go through the motions. The patients have to work...and they do. Skilled nursing is on one side of Carrington Place with long-term care on the opposite side of the complex. The staff is excellent. A nice, focused and jovial group of people. And these are the ones that are there 24/7 responding to the bed call buttons seeking help to get to/from the bathroom or to get their medications and treatments. It is a stark departure from assisted living where there might be three people on duty to cover six wings or ten rooms each. Three people to respond to over 60 patients. That is OK if the residents are generally healthy and ambulatory, but far from what is needed in skilled nursing facilities. Carrington offers excellent around the clock services and care. They know their patients and are very receptive to family and friends of their patients who come to visit. We get updates, they know what is going on and if they need any help from us, they get it. Carrington Place is an extension of our family. If dad improves and his assisted living facility agrees to and can meet his care needs, he will go back. If he cannot learn to transfer and does need to have a higher than assisted living care, he will become a resident in Carrington's long-term care area. We have a family that picks up dad for church on Sundays, his deice can take him out and any of our family can access him and assist him. The Carrington staff is very cooperative and accommodating. We hope for a return to assisted living and the independence it offers dad, but are comfortable with Carrington's long-term care if that is the best option for dad. We will see. read more

I am not sure where to start. My dad started out in the rehab section as it was after a hospital admission. He loved it over there. Sandy the admissions coordinator was great. Penny was dad's day nurse and dad loved her. Since I am a nurse she would listen to my concerns on dads care and get with Dr. Tucker to get orders. When we realized dad would not be able to come home and would be staying there he did not want to leave the rehab side. Carrington was very good in letting him stay on the rehab side for 3 months until we found the perfect room on the 100 hall. He was sad to leave Penny and all the CNA's that helped dad. Once we picked a room and moved dad was scared but Felica was dads weekday nurse and dad started to love her. She had a calming voice and he found comfort in talking with her. Second shift nurse Harriett, dad really did not connect with but she did her job. Night nurses switched daily. Dad was very alert and oriented and he had to use a wheelchair because he had trouble walking but mostly independent. He got himself up, washed and dressed. They helped with baths, meds and few other things. At that point things were great. He had a great room and dad did not get a roommate which he lucked out. At this point I would give it 5 stars. Fast forward to beginning of August when dad was not feeling well and then was found unresponsive on August 4th. Boy did the care change. Lisa the Supervisor called me about the status change and I came right to his bedside. He was in his bed, in his clothes covered up with no one in his room. He was totally wet with urine. There was no doctor report about what might have happened. Now dad was a DNR, but you would think the doctor would be notified and reach out. I had to ask them to clean him up. So from there that is when things went downhill. Day nurse Felica was wonderful but rest of nursing care was not up to par as well as 2nd and 3rd shift CNA's. He was not bathed for 3 days and the room smelled like urine. I told Felica someone has to bath him. So they did, but why would a family member have to ask?. What are the CNA's doing? Well I will tell you, at 10:00pm my husband went to leave (I stayed and slept at bedside) and 4 CNA's were sitting out in the open room talking and 1 was reading the paper. I also went to use the restroom one night at 1:00am and found the nurse dosing at the nursing station. My dad did NOT have an open wound on his sacrum as I asked the wound nurse the week before to check for me and now he had a Stage 2 from not being turned and repositioned for 8 days while unresponsive and dying. Horrible end of life care and I was at bedside. Can you image the other poor people that had no family there. I do have to give shout outs to the people that helped us after dad moved to his permanent side of the facility. Nurses, Felica (weekday nurse and Holly (weekend nurse). They really liked my dad and he loved them. Darren CNA was amazing. The care he provided my dad before and after the change in situation was remarkable. Candy the wound nurse who truly was wonderful as she really tried to mend my dad's wounds. Lisa the Supervisor who was very calming to me when my dad conditions changed and after he passed. Sandy in admission who was very patient with us while we looked for permanent rooms for my dad. Carol in transportation who brought my dad to doctors for 8 months. She was wonderful to talk with and took great care of my dad. My dad passed on a Friday August 12th at 5:00pm after all day staff went home. How disappointed I am that not one person from Carrington called, sent a text, or emailed me to give the family condolences as I was very active in Dads care the entire 8 months he was there and was at bedside for almost 8 days straight. I am a RN and I will say Compassion goes a long way and I guess once my dad passed it was like, ok clean the room and onto the next person. Very sad. I cannot recommend this place solely on the last 8 horrible days my dad was dying at this facility and the care was NOT compassionate. read more

The rehab staff is A+ all the way. Very positive, knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic and thorough. Loved them. Food was okay. Nothing to brag about. Most nurses were good. Some were disrespectful and mean not to mention degrading. One was scary asking personal questions in regards to my purse. Three pieces of clothing went AWOL. Draw your own conclusions. Thank goodness I had a STRONG ADVOCATE! Be sure you have one. I would not return. read more

My Mother was recommended to Carrington Place by a Nurse at her Assisted Living Facility to Carrington Place after several falls in one wknd and a time in the hospital after the falls. The staff was professional and appeared to treat her with respect. Her medication and health issues were addressed appropriately. Physical therapy was daily and the therapists worked with her to achieve the same level she was at prior to the falls. The environment and my Mother's room were kept very tidy. I was kept current on her medical condition. When she had an appt to see a specialist outside of Carrington Place, they were proactive and arranged for transport to/from the specialist's office. Carrington Place definitely exceeded my care expectations. I would definitely return my Mother to Carrington Place in the future, if needed and would recommend them to anyone in need of rehab. read more

My Mom laid flat at CMC Main for 20 days after 2 surgeries and 1 20 minute rehab. Really never woke up. Believe it or not, after the first 12 hours at Carrington Place they had her sitting up in a wheelchair eating and engaged in communication. They take great care of your loved ones. The staff have for the most part been there for many years. In that business that says alot. I feel good leaving my Mom in their care. read more

The food here is awful. The aides take over an hour to answer call buttons. They aren't very friendly either. The nursing staff was good . They came to room as soon as an aide told them I. Needed to see them to get pain meds etc. the PT staff was really great. They all did what they could to get me back on my feet. read more

My father was just discharged from here after rehab after he continued to have back and forth trips to the hospital for his CHF and diabetes. At first visit, I was not very impressed with Carrington Place, except it was very clean and smelled nice. I have been to other nursing homes that did not! As my father's rehab progressed, I truly began to appreciate the compassion and kind hearted people there. My father's CHF was well controlled and his excercise tolerance got better and better. There is something special about this place. Even the man in charge walks around and greats visitors and the other patients. My father is now back home and doing well. I really appreciate All of the nursing staff and therapy staff at Carrington Place for all of there help. read more

Excellent nursing and rehab staff! Clean facility and family owned! This facility is older but the quality if care is top notch... so when looking for a facility, do you want a place that has poor quality care that looks brand new or a facility that might be older but can offer excellent care?! Carrington has great ratings on Medicare.gov and has been well known throughout the community for 25+ years. I have worked here for four years now and am honored to be a part of such a great community! read more

Been meaning to express thanks to Carrington Place for what they did for my mom. I have been through a whirlwind the last 4 months. My mom was discharged to Royal Park for rehab and we didn't really know what to think at first. The rehab gym was incredible...After a couple weeks of unresolved issues, poor nursing care, no one communicating or caring about mom's decline and concerns with no help during the night...we were told she was being discharged home with home health. Unfortunately it wasn't long before we were back in the ER....Once again, we were told to select a rehab to go to....THANK GOD FOR CARRINGTON PLACE...Carrington Place does not look as nice on the inside, well, it looks a little homelike. The place is ran by very friendly and extremely knowledgeable staff. We were so pleased and absolutely received great nursing care (thanks Bell and Melanie), therapy was good too and they let small puppies play around in the therapy gym and it really makes it all so welcoming. The place is busy and I admire those keeping it running; it truly felt like we were surrounded by the best of the best. The head executive, Mark or Mike? isn't hidden somewhere in a locked office. His door was always open and families and residents are in and out of there all day. He always had a smile and told us to come in anytime..(that is a huge help for families). Being up close and personal with those that are in charge of a place, really instills a sense of honesty. Now, it wasn't a perfect few weeks there, but every concern was addressed and we were given honest expectations to us. I am a teacher so I can tell when someone is a born educator. It is nice being given helpful advice from the head of the company. The lady at the front desk has answers to any question you have, I cannot remember her name. Thank you Carrington Place.
