Would not recommend this Company. First of all, they rip you off. I gave them my project measurements, they computed the quantity it said the job needed, and what they delivered didn't cover half the project. Had to order more so on the second order, same issue. I confronted them and I said I needed additional stone, gave them the measurements again. I own a construction company so I know what a ton of stone looks like. I also know that they have to weigh each truck before its sent out to verify they have the correct weight on the truck for the material I ordered. So I asked for the weight ticket. They would not provide it. said they don't weigh the trucks-which is either a lie and or illegal. The third delivery showed up and after I asked for the weight ticket-boom- TOO much stone showed up. So I sent HALF the order back. Never got a credit for the return so I called. Found out from my credit card Company they credited $462 for half a load that was returned when the invoice was over $2,000. I asked for an explanation and was told the Manager would call me. Surprise- no call from the Manager. Here's the summary. You don't know what your getting from this Company and whether they are cheating you on your order. They are cheating you unless you have a scale to weigh it on-which they know you don't. When you call, you get multiple people to talk to and nobody seems to know what is going on. They say someone will call you- they won't. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY unless your ok with whatever you get. read more

Staff sent me in my (small) car down a long pavement behind the building to look at the rock by myself. It wasn't suitable for a customer or small car - there was rock all over the ground and trucks going back and forth that completely blocked my access. Staff should have a cart they can use to drive customers instead. I never did see the rock due to semi truck blocking access, so picked brown river rock - which was sold out. Carrolls called me when brown river rock was in stock and I paid over the phone for delivery the following Monday. I was told the driver would call me when they left the yard with the rock. At 10am on Monday, I called to find out where my order was on the schedule and learned Carrolls sold all the brown river rock to someone else. I had planned my entire day around this delivery at an apartment complex and paid for help from others and had tenants change their parking locations to accommodate the delivery. I heard the person who answered at Carrolls ask if they had called me and he said "I haven't had time". How inconsiderate to take an order and then sell the customer's supply - and not call them! They really didn't care - but credited the charge back. I won't use them again. Very unprofessional. Several hours later, Carrolls sent me a text confirming my order and said the delivery driver would contact me with time and date of delivery that I just cancelled. I had to call them back to confirm my order of non-existent material was still cancelled! On the other hand, I called Tierra Supply in Clearwater and they delivered the brown river rock right away and were very nice - they even took exact location of where to drop the rock (which Carrolls would not do - Carrolls said I had to wait and tell the driver when he called, making you sit by the phone all day). read more

When I owned Suncoast Nursery from 1986-2000 we only bought landscape rock from here. Over the years I have returned for my personal home needs and did again this week. Still a great selection and excellent service. I wouldn't go anywhere else if you are looking for anything from gravel to huge boulders ;put one of those on the corner of my property to stop car traffic across my lawn; really worked!! We bought a house in Gulfport 12 yrs ago and have used Carroll's ever since. I've always been happy with the product and the service. Now post hurricane I am trying to fix up my damaged backyard and needed 4 truckloads of seashells delivered. The delivery driver of all 4 loads was Jonathan, and it was a pleasure working with him. He texted ahead, was punctual, great social skills and drove the big truck with finesse on my very narrow driveway. Carroll's really stood out for how professional and easy they made the whole process. The highlight of my experience was the delivery driver, Scotty Yates. He called ahead, arrived right on time, and was friendly and helpful throughout. It's not every day you get a driver who's both punctual and personable -- Scotty deserves a shout-out! Everyone I've dealt with at Carroll's has been great, but the care and courtesy they bring to their service -- especially through drivers like Scotty -- really sets them apart. This was my second delivery/order with Carrol's and I am still just as impressed. They make choosing and receiving landscape products fun! (Which can be a rather stressful thing, from the design, to cost, to service ect. Buyer Beware! Carroll's Building Materials is a disgusting organization! I provided measurements for decorative rocks in my residential garden area and didn't receive enough due to the owner's son Scott's miscalculation. When I had to order more, they charged another delivery fee, and I live 7 minutes away! The second load had unwanted large rocks that added weight, which is how they figure out the cost, and no one was willing to provide a credit. I exchanged several emails with their CEO, Brian Yates who at first was going to work something out with me but called me a liar and was chauvinist because I was a woman. Scott also charged my credit card for the rocks they didn't have in stock AGAIN before I approved the transaction. When I took my complaint outside their organization, they didn't even reply to them to discuss the situation. I spent $1,700 on rocks and would think when a company makes an error and treats you like dirt, they would be professional enough to offer a resolution! I may not have spent tens of thousands of dollars, but I work hard to be able to spend what I did and was totally disrespected! The communication to fix the issue has been going on for months and was ghosted by Brian AGAIN and still have not received a credit. Shame on you for having such terrible work ethics! I ended up buying more rocks from another business and they were so accommodating and took the extra steps to make sure I was ordering the same color. I made sure I shared how amazing they were! Owners son is just that an owners son that doesn't give a crap about his customers, delivered the wrong type of rock on 2 separate occasions and told me to deal with it as he doesn't have any extra or different rock. Clearly a mixed batch of rock and for this to happen on 2 separate occasions is hilarious. The first time guy said they wouldn't let it happen again and would qc check the batch. Nothing happened it was the same delivery again. If your a business owner looking for material go somewhere else. It's sad because I'm sure his father wouldn't treat his customers like that. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Worst garden soil I have ever used, went with what I thought would work for us (their garden blend) Got talked into getting the top soil by Brett for raised beds. We were insured it was quality, high in nutrient well draining soil, good for raised bed vegetable gardening. So I ordered 2 yards delivered for nearly $200. Spent the last 4 hours moving 3000 Pounds of dirt into raised beds. Was happy to finally have dirt in our raised beds then went to water it in. I now have INCHES of standing water on the surface of my soil. It's litterally garbage. Will not drain any water at all. Nothing will grow in it because the dirt is too heavy and compact, and the water would rot the roots of my plants. Instead of having a nice vegetable garden I have a $200 Mosquito farm and 3000 pounds of useless dirt sitting in my back yard. and to think I got talked out of what would of prolly worked out fine. it's unfathomable how absolutely entirely garbage this product is. You'd think if they specialized in dirt they'd have it figured out. I couldn't be more upset or disappointed. read more

Very poor communication. I made a reservation for limestone and sea shells to be delivered to my home. My card was charged in advance. All day I have spent on the phone with Cody who said my order was "next. " All day long numerous times I received that answer. Then, I called back again and he told me that the delivery may not be made until tomorrow. How do we go from "oh we're loading your order now, 15 more minutes," to "may no be till tomorrow?" He then told me that this morning the delivery person was in a car accident. I would have been understanding if I had been communicated with honestly from the start. Instead, I waisted my day on the phone calling them being told, "I'm next," and waisted an entire day paying landscapers to wait around for the supplies. Will never use them again. Cody the manager should be fired for poor communication and lying to customers. I know I'm not the only person who has had this issue with him. All the crew on the phone needs training as well. Poorly ran company. Will not return. I cancelled my order but I did not get compensated for time wasted and landscapers waiting. I went there and spent about a 1/2 hour looking for a couple of Limestone boulders. After arranging delivery and paying for said boulders, thought all was well. Comes delivery day, there were no pair of Limestone boulders only one huge brown boulder, that looked like the Jolly Green Giant had a bowel movement. The only thing missing was the stink. Speaking of stink, their customer service and attitude sucks. Had to dispute the CC charge because the little idiot refused to act like an adult and reverse payment. Said he did, the bank said otherwise. I did win the dispute and also want to say, there are other sellers of boulders, rocks, gravel, mulch etc... This is a great place to get fancy gravel or stones for landscaping. They have a great variety. If you are buying tons, they do deliver. If you need a smaller amount, they'll bag it and help to load it into your car. So pick your stones, then cross your fingers there isn't a long line to place your order. The line can move slowly. But if you need help, they are patient and offer good advice. I found the prices very reasonable. read more

I ordered 15 yards from them and they were over 4 hours late delivering it and then used my garden hose to fill their water tank when I was in the back forming the slab. I went to Carrolls for 2 yards of crushed shell a week ago Saturday. The tires on my trailer could not handle the weight. After the shell was added they went flat. I was asked to move the vehicle ahead 100 yards to a compressor to pump them back up. The tires peeled off the rims in that journey. Thanks to Ken the front end loader operator for quickly getting help from Tirese and Markus with the fork lift. The hoisted my trailer so I could remove the tires. Ken sent me to a tire place that was right around the corner on 16th St N. With newly mounted tires I returned to Carrolls and was in my way all I. Less than an hour. Best place for inexpensive landscaping rocks. I needed some white gravel and some river rocks and this was by far the best value and better selection than I could've hoped for. They do stay very busy (especially on a Saturday morning). The help I received to place my order in the office was rude and impatient, but it did sound like he had some personal things weighing on him that might have been influencing his attitude about being at work. The guys in the warehouse who filled my order more than made up for the rudeness in the office. The warehouse guys were so very nice and went above and beyond to help me load the bags of stones in my car and offered answers while I waited for my order to be filled. I had to wait about 20-30 minutes for my bags of stones to be filled, but the fair price and great customer service filling my order made it worth a repeat visit when I need more supplies. read more

Either they are understaffed or their customer service is really that bad. When I went to their office to purchase the materials, there was only one person in there, and I had to wait quite a while, since each transaction is not a quick, easy, standard retail cash register transaction. However, at the time, I simply figured they were unusually busy, so I waited, placed my order, scheduled delivery, and went on my way. The next day, we decided that we should increase the order, as it would be better to have too much then not enough, so since it is 25-30 minutes away, and I did not need to get help choosing the materials this time, I figured I would just call, and add the appropriate material to the order. When I called, a very pleasant young woman answered, and when I explained to her what I needed she said she would transfer me to someone who could help me. Shortly after that, she came back, and said they were all too busy to help me, and someone would call me back later. At this point, I am beginning to think that they either do not want my money, or they are horribly understaffed! The only remotely positive part of this whole thing is that they did call back within a few hours, and I did get the additional materials ordered. We had requested, and needed delivery as early as possible, and when I had originally ordered the materials, I was told that we would be the second run of the day, and while it should be earlier, they could not guarantee any earlier than noon. While I was not thrilled, I was willing to deal with that. I was not quite sure why I had to wait for the other delivery when both their phone recording and their website both claim to have their own fleet of semis and dump trucks. However, at this point, it was not worth fighting over. Then comes delivery day. The morning of delivery, my husband (who was the contact for the job and the day of) got a call that they were having problems with the truck, and it had to go to the mechanics for a couple hours, so they would be running late. (Again, where is this FLEET of trucks that they supposedly have). Throughout the day my husband called three separate times for updates to find out where they were, and when they would be coming. The job was waiting on this delivery. Each time he called, he was given an attitude of "oh well, there is nothing we can do." There was no apologizing for any inconvenience or any concern on their part at all. The materials were finally delivered at around 5:15 pm with little care or concern. There was a tarp placed out for the materials to be dumped onto in order to make the rest of the job cleaner as well as easier, but only half of the materials actually made it onto the tarp. There just seems to be no care or concern for the quality or the service given to the customer. I understand that they may be the biggest or one of the biggest in the area, but perhaps, I will search out, and find one of the smaller companies they next time I need landscaping materials rather than deal with this nightmare again! read more

I've spent more than $15,000 in Carroll's building materials since I bought my home in 2005. I know it doesn't sound like a whole bunch, but it is to me. Recently I purchased some MSI Gold Rush corner Pieces for the last phase of my new front porch poles. I went in and I relied on the individual behind the counter to order the correct amount. I told him the square footage I gave him the sizes and dimensions of each pole. He told me that I needed 24 boxes and charged me $1,152 for the corners. As it ended up, the gentleman had ordered 18 boxes more than I needed, almost $900 worth of stone. I called Carroll's ask them to rectify the situation and at first he told me no and then they said that he would pass it to the manager and the manager would call me. He did not call me so I drove there on the weekend. The manager stated that I could not return the unopened material for any reason. I explained him that the error was made by a Carroll's expert at the front desk based on the numbers that I gave him and the manager basically told me tough luck. They refused to do anything to help resolve the situation, or even try to make it right. I will not be using Carroll's Building Materials ever again nor will I ever recommend the company to anyone. Great selection of stepping stones, rocks snd other landscaping materials. I bought stepping stones and the guys even loaded them up in my car. Greatly appreciate the service since I could not pick up such heavy items. All was great except for their selling techniques. I was very disappointed with the sales staff. I went in the morning to see what they offer and asked for prices. I nice gentleman looked up the 3 items I was interested in and printed them out with prices. I went home, took some measurements and went back to buy what i need. I walked into the office, put in my order, paid and waited for the guys to load the merchandise. While waiting in the warehouse, I looked at the receipt and noticed that the price of the 18" round stepping stones was higher than the one I was quoted in the morning. The office was by then closed so I could not get the price adjusted. I asked one of the guys at the warehouse why would the price go up. His response was- depends on the sales person. Everyone from sales, workers, drivers all were so nice - they went out of their way to help me taking me around their massive yard both times that I went! I worked with several of them and they all went out of their way to help me even when they are busy they still took time to make sure I got what I came for - you may need to wait a bit when they are very busy but still they were easy to work with!! I have been visiting Carroll's for supplies for everything from an art project to small installations for years. This time, I needed rocks for a pathway in my backyard. I had no idea how to figure out what I needed. The guys in the office helped me decide what kind of rock, how much I needed, and quoted a very reasonable price, including delivery. When I went to choose it, I met Tall Chris. He is my new hero. He helped me hand pick each rock and muscled it onto the pallet. He had great suggestions and warned me about things I never would have considered, pointing out trip hazards, etc. He also had an artful eye for shape and color.
