Unfortunately my experience with the cashier Holly warranted this negative review. This store is located near my home and I didn't feel like driving to Home Depot for a female/female garden hose adapter. The lady who helped me find the adapter was extremely pleasant; I didn't ask they the price but proceeded to the cash register. Holly rang up the adapter and the price point was 8.99, I said I was surprised it cost that much because it was less expensive at Home Dept, as I unzipped my purse, she said to me: "Home Depot is 3 miles down the road, goodbye." I was stunned and said to her: "is that how you speak to customers?" and walked off as she attempted to explain. As I exited the door to my car, I decided I needed to tell the manager on duty how rudely she had treated me. The manager apologized and said he would talk with her. I decided to drive those three miles to Home Deport and purchased the adapter for $3.98. The competitive market leaves no room for customer mistreatment, people don't leave companies, they leave the people of companies. Convenience sometimes warrants spending more; but I wont spend more in a store where the employees are rude. That whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth for Ace Hardware.. read more

I always value and when applicable shop at our local stores vs. big box stores. Unfortunately, the service from the team staffing the different departments at this Ace Hardware was the worst I have ever experienced. When asking the attendant for advice on how to proceed with a small home repair, he initially made fun of how I handled the initial repair and then try to force me to buy something I didn't want. Terrible experience. I tried to share this information with the store manager privately through their website, but no reply to this inquiry either. Truly an unfortunate experience and I will never honor this establishment with any of our business going forward. So I'm not a fan of this location. I only gave it a 2 for the great plant selection So my first expierence last week was when I called about getting a key made for my car .I gave them all of my information and they told me they could make me a key. I ubered down to deal with a condescending man at the key counter. He kept interrupting me to say I understand but.....like 4 times. He ended up telling me there was no one there to make my key, why didn't you tell me that on the phone when I called so I didn't Uber down here. His response was he didn't know what I needed. Umm I told you all my car info.So that was a waste of a trip. So I decided to go back a week later and use my coupon on a plant. I read the terms and it didn't say anything about not being able to use it on plants but they wouldn't honor my coupon even though there was nothing in the terms and conditions. Call me crazy but I'll take a trip to Ace Hardware over the bigger boys (Lowes, Home Depot) any day. It's obviously a heck of a lot smaller - therefore it can only stock so much. A big job is going to need a trip to the big boys, but keys, paint (Benjamin Moore sold here), paint supplies, gardening needs, hardware all have me driving to this store. It has a friendly, old fashioned vibe. It feels like the little hardware store I used to go with my dad to on weekends. The employees wear their red vests and are always available to help. They're relaxed, chatty. I don't have to walk 8 miles to get from plumbing to door knobs. I like to buy a small Coke in a glass bottle at checkout before the short drive back home...kind of fits the mood. read more

I wish I remembered the name of the female associate that helped me on several occasions but she went above and beyond for me and was very friendly. Everyone in this store is always pleasant, but disorganized. We stood around & waited 30 min today for someone to help us. Instead, we were repeatedly shooed off to the aisle where the product we needed was displayed. But, we had questions...and, if we purchased the wrong item, it could have presented a fire hazard. We had a bunch of other stuff we planned to buy, but ended up walking out & going elsewhere. My other gripe with this store is their staunch refusal to honor on-line prices. A few months ago, we were sent home and instructed to order a power tool they had in-stock, on line. There was a significant price difference, so we did. Then, when our hedgeclippers, which, mind you, was on their shelf this whole time, arrived, no one could find our order. When located, no one knew how to ring it up...resulting in a big discussion, involving various employees around the computer. Of course, everyone else in line is giving me the stinkeye, like it's my fault for complicating matters. One time we came to this store and a truly "helpful hardware man" helped us find a particular odd size bolt we needed to complete a project. Hence, 2 stars, rather than just 1. read more

Well we all know how I feel about local businesses. I'll pick them any day of the week of large, super chains. I am never even sure if doing this matters and honestly I don't care. I feel better. Hardware is an easy one, because anywhere you are there's usually an Ace that is locally owned. And sure enough, in the 'Burg we have one of the best. I can say anytime i go here I am treated with utmost respect, greeted with a smile and asked a million times if I can be helped - which, invariable, given the fact that I terrible at anything related to handyman crap, I need. These guys helped me build a compost pile in my backyard; helped me buy the right tools to hang a curtain rod; saved me from buying an overpriced electric tape measure and even spent 5 minutes helping me pick out two 23 cent screws - do the cost analysis on that. All this to say; you need fix-it stuff in St Pete you go here. Period. read more

I must say every time I have ever gone here there is always a staff member close by to assist you if you need it and sometimes that means more to me then to find the item that I was looking for, they will usually offer me an alternative. read more

Love that you can get in and out without having to walk a mile and wander aimlessly down countless aisles to find the one thing you need. On our last trip we got light bulbs, large garage storage shelves and a key made. Today I called looking for some pearl gray wood stain. Which is very hard to find anywhere. I came in contact with the paint associate Mia. She is by far one of the best sales associates I've ever had a positive speak with. She went well above and beyond her duties. She literally took about four or more different routes to try to find the stain for me. A female voiced employee told me to come in Thursday mornings because that was the least busiest time & someone would help me with a problem. I was optimistic because I had been there 3 years before and always found someone to help me. Employee Joanne said that she'd contact the manager to help me. She NEVER did. An older employee, Kevin, was extremely helpful with my problem AFTER I ASKED HIM. I saw Joanne & the manager at the checkout and both said nothing except wearing a smile. My son and I needed a new leaf blower and, knowing that Ace carried Stihl products, decided to purchase one from our neighborhood Ace Hardware. Much to my surprise, the gentleman helping us out indicated that they like to put a little bit of gas in the outdoor power equipment and start them to make sure they are in good working order. This alone was impressive. The subsequent warranty registration process was equally impressive. The gentleman filled out the warranty sheet, and I gave it to the cashier at checkout. Ace took care of the warranty registration for us. Further, the gentleman helping us indicated that they service the Stihl power equipment they sell. Needless to say, we were very happy with our decision to purchase the new leaf blower from Ace rather than a big box store. Further, I was even more pleased that my son got to experience old school customer service, something that is often nonexistent today. read more

I love to support local businesses rather then go to Home Depot or Lowes but will not shop there again. The young blonde girl in the paint department was not knowledgeable about paint AT ALL.. she mixed an interior flat paint for an exterior door, when I got home and noticed I went back she said it was okay to use, when I refused she mixed a quart of exterior paint, that took 45 minutes and she was not helping anyone else. Then she told me I had to pay for both.... What a nightmare! I hate to say but I've bought paint from Home Depot and they always ask what your project is and make suggestions with a much better attitude then I received from this person. I have shopped in there before and met the owners and they are very helpful nice people but please hire more mature knowledgeable people! read more

I am a local MLK business owner.....I am all about shoppping local and even though Ace is a franchise, it is still locally owned. I tried to go through Ace for all my hardware needs for both my business and my home. I even told other friends to shop there in support. With that said, I have never had worse customer service in my life!! You cannot buy with confidence. They have a terrible return policy and a reputation for not caring. Won't even exchange an "Ace" brand product for an even exchange of another "Ace" brand product without a receipt....."it's our policy" is all you will hear from the smug register girl. Stick with Lowe's or Home Depot. They are not far from Ace. They have more products and appropriate terms for exchanges or returns. You won't need a receipt to exchange one product for another and you can return tools with a receipt, no questions asked. Way to go, Ace!!! Even heard another couple in Ace speak directly about the owners being really cheap. I guess they don't care. I won't shop there ever again and I can throw a stone and it would land in their parking lot! read more

I love local small businesses. I shop at a lot of them. This store I will not. At least not anymore. First of all, the prices are higher than they should be. I understand that they are trying to compete with the larger stores like Lowes and Home Depot, however, if I'm going to pay more money for something I could get much cheaper somewhere else, I'd at least like to get exceptional customer service. I live less than 5 minutes away from this store and I last visited this past week. It was just as bad as usual. I have never gotten good customer service here. EVER. The girls at the register never say hello, there is always people talking behind the counter who never ask if I need help, and no one seems to enjoy being there. God forbid I ask a question about the return policy. Never again. Easy access, friendly and knowledgeable employees, large variety of inventory, and competitive pricing make it a pleasure to shop there, and you don't have to go searching for an employee to help. The come looking for you! Being a woman, one might expect to be ignored in a hardware store. On the contrary, the staff goes out of their way to be helpful and offer advice (of which I need plenty).
