Beware, Shady Business Do not Trust them. I took my car in on 10/15/19 to have them look at a leak on my car and to do the 100,00 mile check I explained that the leak was of a oil consistency. at the end of the day after the inspection I was called by the mechanic and told that I had a leak in my power steering hose and that with the required maintenance(system flush and the oil change) it would cost $857.00. I asked for a break down of the cost then Paul the owner got on the phone and said that there was a computer error in the calculation and that he would call me back. Paul called back and told me that the cost was $652.45. I made the appointment for the following week as they needed to order the power steering pumps that were leaking. When I took my car in on 10/24/19 I told the mechanic that now my heater is not working in my car and that I did not have a issue with that when I brought it to them everything was working. At the end of the day on 10/24/19 I called to ask if the car was done, I spoke to Paul and he said that they would be done with it the next day 10/25/19 in the morning, that they replaced the power steering pump and don't see any leaks. I called the morning of 10/25/19 Paul then told me that I had a very small slow leak in my water pump that is why my heater did not work. I asked him how that was possible when I did not have that leak or issue when i brought it to them? That I did not have multiple leaks only one, and why he did not see this? I was told that when the car is hot that the water evaporates and you do not see the leak he then quoted me another $394.41 when I picked it up. At that time again I stated that it does not make sense, that I did not have multiple leaks and that my heat was working prior to bringing it to him and what are the odds of my car developing a second leak from the water pump on the exact day you were fixing my car and that you did not see it until this morning? 2 hours after I got my car home I went out to check to see if i could see any leak. There was, It was the same leak, same amount and the same oil consistency, in the same spot as the leak that I took my car in to them to begin with. Carson automotive was closed until Monday 10/28/19. I called Paul on 10/28/19 told him that I still have the same leak that I had when I brought it to him. Paul then told me that that is my water pump leaking. I explained that it is the exact same consistency and in the same spot as when I brought it in, so if it is my water pump then why did i replace my power steering pump that you said was the leak, that i did not have multiple leaks in my car I only had one so why did my power steering pump get replaced if that was not the leak, Paul then stated "well your power steering pump "would have" started to leak, I then said to Paul, so the leak I brought it in for did not get fixed. He said it is the water pump that is leaking that my heater will stop working that I could bring it in and he will look at it again. At that point I told Paul that I just paid to have my car fixed ( $652.45 total,$414.38 of that for a power steering pump and labor that was not the issue, and the leak did not get fixed instead you replaced something that may or may not have leaked in the future and in doing that I now still have the same leak that did not get fixed. When our van broke down on the side of the road while vacationing right outside of south lake we couldn't find a local shop to help us. We were staying in Genoa so we tried shops in Carson city. Paul agreed and was so patient with my stressed begging and happily agreed to take our car. In the beginning, the only reason I stopped in at Carson City Automotive was because of their $20 oil change special, the franchise places charge three times more. These guys are not teenage boys changing my oil, so this sits well with me. I brought my truck in and on the way over to them a seal in my rear-end went out causing all the fluid to leak out, this could have been a major issue if they had not found it when they did. I was on my way to Southern California the next day. I continue to come back with all my vehicles because no matter how little you ask them to do they do it right and treat you right. This Friday my water pump decided to start leaking, I had to call a tow truck. I called Carson City Automotive and talked to Mike, Paul the owners son. Mike stayed after hours on a Friday to meet the driver of the tow truck and then proceeded to park my truck inside their shop because it was going to be there all weekend unattended. I had to return 3 times for three separate repairs over an 8 month period. That's 9 trips with a 3 hour turnaround In two cars. Cooling system had everything replaced as they searched for a leak. Each time I returned home the fluid was gone from the reservoir. Three trips each were also required for exhaust and AC. Bolts were left off and/or loose, tools were left in and around the vehicle, and low effort occurred even after I asked Paul Sr. to inspect work before delivery. It never should have taken 8 months for repairs. I should not have had to pay for employee mistakes and when I asked for compensation I was flat out denied. COVID-19 or whatever, I should have been comped. Point is they had the car from last snow to first snow. One thing that did go correct was Paul Jr.'s work on my carburetor, but even then a vacuum hose was left off, which I had to install. read more

I refused to pay that and went to Carson City Automotive. They looked at it and figured out a fix for $200. I was thrilled. That was 9 months ago. The problem is really fixed! I've since taken my car for several other repairs to them. They fixed the problem every time, in the time promised and for the price they quoted. I really like the fact that they have a 2-year, 24000 mile warranty on all their work. On one occasion, there was a small problem with a part and they fixed it quickly. There are very few reviews about Carson City Automotive on Yelp but Google has many more reviews and at this time their rating on Google Reviews is 4.7 out of 5. Check that out! I recommend Carson City Automotive to anyone who will listen. They are very competent mechanics and in my experience very trustworthy. WARNING [take your business somewhere else, if you choose to do business with this shop then please read my experience before you make a decision] most importantly read all of the reviews on here including the UNRECOMMENDED REVIEWS at the very bottom of this page my brother was driving my mothers car to Nevada to pick up a truck his friend got, the car broke down and he had to leave it at their shop, my mother talked to Paul and he was really nice over the phone, we knew there was something wrong with the exhaust manifold and we told him to ONLY replace that part. we come back a few weeks later and they wanted to charge us somewhere around $1200 to replace the exhaust manifold, radiator hose, the injector lines, an oil leak and cleaning the engine bay on a 240D Mercedes Benz. cleaning the engine bay was $120, i could go down to a car wash a clean my engine bay for 75 cents with degreaser soap in just 10 minutes but on the bill it said it took them an hour in labor and the engine bay looked exactly the way we left it meaning they didn't do a damn thing to clean it. we met his son who kept us waiting at the shop for an hour and a half, we told him that we were paying just for the exhaust manifold which we agreed upon with Paul. He quickly picked up his cell phone, went into the other room, and called his dad Paul to let him know we were there. we tried to talk with Paul over the phone and he dropped it down a few hundred but we were still cheated, he kept repeating that he would not allow the car to leave his shop because his reputation is on the line and that the car was unsafe to drive. but the reality of the situation is that we later found out that most of the repairs weren't done properly or were not done at all so yeah he was right, it was dangerous to drive. When we brought the car back to our trusted mobile mechanic to get it serviced, he looked over the engine and found that the old exhaust manifold was still there but they only put 4 new bolts on it. there was still an oil leak and you could easily spot it on the concrete, they did replace a radiator hose which cost 16$ new, we both knew they didn't clean the engine, the old injector lines were not replaced as promised. what they did goes against the law because you can't charge for extra services in Nevada without the consent of the owner of the vehicle. Please take you vehicle any other shop in the area. There are plenty of other shops in the area, which looking back at i should've done the same. Long story short, I broke down in the area and found the closest shop which happened to be them. They gave me a quote to fix whatever was wrong with the car, which seemed reasonable, but the price was jacked at the last second. I tried reasoning with them, but was to no avail. Taking advantage of a weary traveler. Shame on them. They have a sign behind where you wait in the front office that says "You can't fix stupid" right behind where the customers sit. Almost as if they are mocking everyone of their customers who walk in the door. The son was very nice to me and seemed to be level headed, but the owner of the shop was extremely rude and had a very condescending attitude when i was simply asking for help and an explanation to why the price was raised so much at the last minute. I was cordial was trying to be understanding as possible, but he just went off like a firework. Sometimes it deems itself necessary to pay people, who are undeserving, to get out of your life. My experience here was not good. I am putting new pistons in a Chrysler PT cruiser. The car was badly overheated and fried the pistons and warped the head. They charged me fifty dollars to tell me that. That is pretty high. Most places charge around 20 bucks to do that. I decided to go with them and get new pistons and get the complete master rebuild kit through them. Which was to include pistons that have a coating on them, that the engine had in it originally. I left my piston and connecting rods sets together with them to replace the pistons. They told me that the kit with all the parts to rebuild the engine was going to be $600. I thought it a bit high but Paul Jr. guaranteed that it would be the best available. I came back a week latter to get my parts. I pulled the new pistons out of the box to see what I had got. There it was! New pistons attached to my connecting rods. The pistons did not have the friction free coating on the skirts as we had discussed. Paul Jr said to me, "If you want to get the pistons with the coating it will cost you twice as much." So I left telling them that I would not have the money until the next day. I came back the next day and told them that I wanted the pistons taken of my connecting rods and that I wanted my parts back and was not going to do business with them. They told me that they would get the right pistons and make it right. I said no. I wanted my $300 deposit back. Well a week later they gave me my parts. My connecting rods are damaged and the only returned to me $170. The even charged me shipping to return the parts, even though they were not the ones they were supposed to get. They are very high, very pushy, very unprofessional and they workmanship is poor. For toughs that think they are good, I would have to think that they do not know what good is. Meanwhile, I found the pistons with the coated skirts here locally in Carson city for $109. The rest of the rebuild kit With the best parts I put together for $220. Carson City Automotive are shysters. The wouldn't even produce and invoice from who they got the parts from. Completely against protocol. BE CAREFUL if you decide to do business with them. This is not the mechanic for you!!!!... I will say they seemed like very nice people. I had my car there a couple different times for various things which ended up costing me around 1000 dollars which in hind sight i wish i would have gotten a second opinion before work was done.The second opinions came from multiple different shops throughout the Carson area and even the highest was only half of what carson auto charged. To top it all off every time i take my car in with one problem upon reviving the car there has always been something else wrong with it. they seem like nice guys but these guys are hacks and out to get as much money from you as possible while creating other problems so your sure to bring it back in. I also spoke with another customer the last and final time i picked my car up from them who had the same story, basically you can take a well running car in and you are always bound to have something else go wrong soon if not right after leave the shop. As far as i am concerned these guys are wolfs in sheep clothing, so be sure to steer as far away from this place as you can worst work i have ever received for an auto shop and now i still have to take my car into someone else to fix what they just couldn't seem to do right in the first place... read more
