It's become a Saturday tradition. The vendors are that wonderful. The fruits and veggies that good. The shopping experience is that much fun. We have been going regularly! Stellar COVID PROTOCOL to boot! This last visit we scored some exceptional blackberries and incredible heirloom tomatoes. We still have a medley of peppers and some heirloom carrots that will probably make a nice roasted veggie soon! Here's the first visit: First time visiting this farmers market at 3rd and Curry in downtown Carson City. We showed up on the later side of the market and there was still plenty of goodness to go around. Parking was a breeze and at each entrance to the market there were hand wash stations, sanitizer and informational signage. Masks are required and each vendor had markers for social distancing too. Now about those vendors... what an array! From fresh produce grown just a few miles away to glorious gluten and refined sugar free baked goods, this market has it all. I was most excited to meet Lowenkind Bakery, who ive even following on Instagram for a while. She was just as sweet and lovely in person! We saw our friends from Local Roots farm in Pleasant Valley. They'd all buy sold out by the time we got there. We also recognized some of the larger operators from nearby in CA. The strawberries from the farm in Watsonville are second to none! The best find of the day had to be Teejay's Indonesian food! Yes! You read that right. Indonesian food! The satay skewers were delicious and the mango chutney/sambal was fantastic. They serve martabak, which is an Indonesian breakfast pastry, but were sold out so that's my target b

The market has moved to Mills Park. It is now located under the pavillion. Much shadier.

I love the whole idea of a farmers market. Getting to walk around outside and purchase fresh fruits and veggies straight from local farmers! Due to this we have been regulars at Carson City farmers market for the last few years. The market is located at the corner of 3rd and Curry Street, and runs from the 1st Saturday in June through the last Saturday in September. While it has changed a little over the years as vendors come and go, there are always vendors offering fresh fruits and vegetables. This year they appear to have added a lot more non farming vendors like local butchers, honey producers and bakeries. My favorite vendors are Rodriguez Brothers farms for strawberries and corn, and the Bakery Gallery for breads and cookies.

    Must try!

We bumped into Jay Frey and his desert stream farm booth and I could've stayed there for an hour. They had heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes in four or five different colors, it seemed. Friendly faces that answered questions were available. Heck, it seems like Jay was the tomato whisperer as he pointed out to my wife, which tomato to eat tomorrow not today. He also had a small supply of greens, that we never even tasted, and that's another reason for us to return. Here's the good news, this was Tuesday night, August 19 and Jay let us know that the farmer's market has got another six weeks and then it will be done for this season. It's your chance to come taste some of the best tomatoes of your life. The Minden farmers market is open Tuesday evenings and there's a lot going on here that makes it a friendly fun stop. It's a lot like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting and who wouldn't like that. We enjoyed a cocktail, we sampled potato chips and dip, which we ended up making a purchase and we met many friends while hobnobbing around the market. So you've got the chance to eat tasty, locally owned and grown produce purchased about four miles from the farm. That is something to celebrate these days. We ended up eating one of the four heirloom tomatoes as part of our dinner last night. It was delicious, and I was particularly proud of the fact that I resisted eating every bit of the tomato prior to it getting added to the dish.

There was a nice variety of food, drinks, and shopping, so it felt easy to spend a few hours wandering around. We ate at the Thai food truck and everything was so good. The kebabs were packed with flavor, the spring rolls were fresh and crispy, and the mango sticky rice was the perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciated the little details that made the market easy to enjoy, like the free water refill station and the clean, accessible bathrooms. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area and we'll definitely be back!

Lots of arts & crafts in the first row, really wish I had a need for handmade candles and sage and jewelry but I'm here for the food. The kettle corn tent is more my speed. The live musician was pretty impressive - he went from acoustic guitar, harmonica, violin, and singing, all in one song. The Mexican food truck is always our favorite - street tacos, nachos, burritos - pretty tasty. The owner's very friendly and he remembered us from last year lol. We also bought some candles, organic strawberries and some blueberries. They're only open on Wednesdays 3-7:30pm during the Summer so plan accordingly. Parking is easy but you might have to walk a couple hundred yards omg.

This is my second year participating in Great Basin's Community Supported Agriculture Basket. I…read morethink it's a wonderful program. It's a weekly basket of local, seasonal, sustainable produce You prepay for the season and each week you pick up a big box full of a variety of goods. Sometimes you get nuts and fruits thrown into the mostly veggie mix. I split my pickup with two other friends as I am single and mostly cook for myself I could never finish one box in a timely fashion. I'm enjoying the Spring Basket which is 10 weeks of various salad greens, garlic, green onion, fresh herbs, radishes, carrots, garlic and so much more. Summer is 14 weeks of bountiful produce (just take a look at their website to see all that's included!) with beautiful Fallon melons and the occasional basket of raspberries or strawberries that made me alarmed at how delicious the fruit can be. (I literally said "omg, these strawberries have so much strawberry flavor!!" because I had become used to those huge but bland or tart berries from the grocery store). I chose to participate in this instead of going to the weekly farmers markets because this way I'm forced to try new things I might not pick out on my own. It's been fun to try new veggies and get these beautiful mostly organic heirloom varieties as well. Each week they send out a newsletter keeping you updated as to what's being harvested and what to expect in the coming week so you can menu plan. They also include recipe suggestions each week. At the end of the season they hold a potluck "Day at the Farm" at Lattin Farms which was neat to meet others and go on Hay rides and corn mazes. The organizers and participating Farmers are gracious and good at taking feedback. I'm surprised at the variety of things that are grown in northern Nevada (or nearby) although there was quite an abundance of zucchini, tomatoes, and melons every week. Overall it's a great program and I'll likely continue to participate as long as they offer it. They are expanding their pickup points and times and also offer a flower basket too.

I just joined the Great Basin Basket CSA for the first time this summer. I got my second basket…read morelast week (I signed up for both the fruits and vegetables). As mentioned in the earlier review, you pay in advance for the summer and receive a "basket" every week for 14 weeks of fresh produce from local farmers. We share both baskets with my parents as it's too much for one couple to eat. POSITIVES: You get REALLY fresh fruit and produce every week. We eat more fruits and vegetables than ever before and it forces me to try new recipes. Instead of buying the same thing every week I am getting creative and having a BLAST doing it. The fruits and vegetables really are some of the best I've ever tried. You also get a variety of fresh herbs. This last week we got Sun Jewel Melon which I've never even heard of! Not to mention, it feels good knowing that you are supporting local farmers! NEGATIVES: It's pricier than if you were to go to the local farmers market and buy the same amount of produce. We pay $32.15/week for vegetables and $20/week for fruits. For $52/week we could go crazy at the Saturday farmers market and be buying from a lot of the same growers! Also, because we can't pick up the items until after work (5:30ish) they've been in the heat/sun for a few hours and unfortunately require a lot of TLC to be able to save them for a few days. We are forced to eat a lot of it in the first couple of days (as they are ripe NOW) and then end up buying produce at the store to last the rest of the week anyways. Overall, I am really enjoying my purchase. I'm not sure I could afford to sign up again next year, but since I'm prepaid for 14 weeks I am going to definitely enjoy the fresh produce and exciting variety I receive each week. If you don't have to watch your money very closely and like the idea of trying new items while supporting local business then I highly suggest you sign up for the CSA www.greatbasinbasket.com.
