We had a very nice lunch in this brew pub near the State House. Plenty of seating and the staff was very friendly. We had the fried zucchini which was tasty but note it is super fried with a lot of batter. Tastes great but probably not the healthiest thing we could get. We then shared a salad and a margarita pizza. Both were very tasty and a good amount to share for 2. My wife had a marg and said it was tasty and I had the Bock to the Future beer which was great. I can't believe I'm actually going to give this review a one star review. Great Basin Brewing has been a favorite of ours for well over a year almost 2 years now. It's been our go to place. Today being Father's Day, we were out and about in town and decided we would eat there. All the way there I kept bragging to my grandson how great this place is and it's our go to spot. yada yada yada. It wasn't very busy and we were seated very quickly. The service has always been pretty friendly. The service today was adequate and I'll get to that in a second. My grandson ordered the pork belly, Mac and cheese. I kept saying how that is a really good choice and he's really going to like it. My wife ordered the half rack ribs with fries and coleslaw. I had what I think is called the butchers platter with ribs, chicken wings, and pork belly. The food arrived and looked pretty darn good. But that's where it ends. My wife kept saying how salty the food was. And I got to thinking about that as I was eating my wings with the so-called Memphis dust flavoring on them. Those were equally salty so I thought wow OK maybe it's just our taste buds. Then I tried my ribs and they were also salty. I tried my wife's ribs just to see if they were that salty and come to find out they really were and dry. The fries that came with my wife's food tasted like they were old like they've been sitting out for a while. The coleslaw was also bland. After bragging about the pork belly and cheese, my grandson stated that it was pretty bland with very little flavor. So I tried it just to see what was going on and sure enough it was really lacking something what I don't know. I'm thinking garlic because it was pretty darn bland. I honestly hate to give a review like this because I really like this place as I said before it's been our go to spot. Now, as far as the service the server, she was very friendly, but that was pretty much it, after getting our food she didn't even check on us until it was about time for us to leave and she brought us our check. It's just kind of weird because there's a couple of servers here that are exceptional. So I don't know what's going on, but this was a very big letdown for a couple of regular customers. As usual, the place is clean and spacious with plenty of TVs to enjoy sports. In the end, the beverages were about the best part of the meal. It was Father's Day, so my beer was free so thank you for that maybe this was just a rough day. I don't know. Went to Great Basin for dinner last night. I feel like the food quality is going downhill. I ordered the pick 3. The serving size was disappointing to say the least. I understand that for $18 I shouldn't expect a pile of food but it was embarrassingly skimpy and the rib was almost charcoal. I don't quite understand how the chef let that plate of food out of the kitchen. This is our neighborhood place and I'm sad that it's not as good as it was. Staff were friendly and wonderful as always. This is one of our go to spots in Carson and I think the kitchen was having an off night. Food was very slow to come out and when it finally did we were a little disappointed. My husband had the Cajun chicken Caesar wrap, but there was nothing Cajun about it. He said it just tasted like Caesar. I had the crispy fish tacos and they were not crispy at all. The usual golden brown outside was soft and just tasted doughy. The new chipotle sauce was nothing to write home about. I preferred the green sauce they used to have on it. The fries were top notch as always. This place is going down each time we go. Ambiance is a sports bar. Whenever we get sat in the upstairs, we get forgotten. No drink refills, cold appetizer showed up AFTER meal arrived. A lot could improve. After an 8 hour day of packing up and unloading a u-haul, my dad and I wanted comfort and a cold one. We got seated at the last resort high top table that didn't match any of the other wooden ones, all I could smell was the metal and both our chairs were wobbly. It's all good but our waters took a while to come out and then my dad's beer took 10 minutes before she came back to tell us they were changing the keg. When we got our beers, they were filled to the brim and had no carbonation. Is that like a thing now, with beers being flat? I looked around and the other beers I noticed didn't have bubbles either. Anyway, since we were uncomfortable we ordered a few items from the happy hour to share. I will say the food was good but they need help with service, the design/layout of the tables, clean out the tap lines, and more comfortable seating. read more

The four of us popped in for lunch after our visit to the nearby Nevada Railroad Museum. My BIL suggested this for our lunch respite after being here before. We were seated and handed menus. Andrew was our server. He was very attentive and had loads of energy. Being a brewery we had local beers and a mocktail. Lunch entrees- * sis & BIL both had two piece fish & chips * hubby got the fried chicken sandwich * I got the cheeseburger with onion rings (sub)- I requested well done. A bit too done. Had lunch here today with a few friends. The place looked nice. Had an old time rustic feel to it. We were greeted and seated pretty much as we walked in. I had a look over the menu and decided that I was going to order the patty melt with fries. We waited a while for our waitress to come by and take our orders. I think she got a little busy because it was during the lunch hours. She was also waiting tables outside. Once she took our orders, it took a little while to get our food. Again, maybe it was because it was because of the lunch rush. Once I received my food it was ok. The bread was toasted a little too much to where it was hard and kind of scratched the roof of my mouth but, it wasn't too bad though. The fries seemed fresh. The patty melt was just average for me. Great service, wonderful atmosphere -- just 2 of the reason we return to Great Basin for lunch. The Fish and Chips are among my favorite in the Reno area: crispy batter, fresh fish, and I love that I can choose 2 or 4 pieces of fish. Steaks fries are always delicious. As opposed to my last review/visit, the cole slaw was really good this visit - altho a little warm from sitting under the heat lamp waiting for the fries. Love the Cerveza Chilibesos beer. Great little brewery in Carson City. Very busy on a Friday night, but we were able to go right in and sit at the bar. Great bartender, just got us in under the happy hour wire. The squeeze only had a soda, but I had the Truckee River Red, nice sweet caramel and roasted malt flavors. We both had two fish tacos, one would have been good. Perfectly spicy, crispy, and packed with flavor. Paired it with their garlic fries and it was a knockout combo. The service? Impeccable. Everyone on staff was friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful. They made the experience even better. Located mid town in Carson City, we decided to eat here after finding our original destination (The Basil) closed for lunch on Saturdays. We selected a table on their outside patio which offered good shade and a nice quiet place to enjoy the spring weather. Our server was friendly and quick to take our order, although I wished he'd checked back more often to refill drinks. We were ravenous when we sat down so over-ordered food, but everything we tried was delicious! Especially the onion rings...! They were some of the best I've had! The fries were also seasoned perfectly and the fish was dipped in the same yummy batter as the onion rings.
