My brother and I were on the way to Virginia City. We had both been to the location between Carson and Reno before, , but this was both his and my first visit to this location. It looks just like the other location, and it sits at the base of the hill that provides the southern entrance to Virginia city. It was a great store. The lady at the store was very friendly. I told her that we had been to the other store a few times, but this was our first visit to this store. She told us that "this is where the magic happens." this is the location where they make the chocolates and candy, and then send it on to the other store. It has everything that the other store has, chocolates, taffy, assorted candies, including hard candies, peanut brittle, the works. They have a large selection of loose chocolate in bins, so you can get a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. It's charged by the pound. My brother got some chocolates for both him. And his wife back home, and he also got another bag of the jalapeño brittle. I'm the one that "turned him on" to it, and he's gotten to like it as well. I also got some of the chocolates, and I picked up two bags of the jalapeño brittle, and because I got two bags, because of a special they were running I also got a complementary bag of caramel corn. I hear it's very good stuff like everything they have here, but because I had so much candy already, the caramel corn ended up being a gift. The price is for everything was reasonable, based on the high-quality of their candy, and they do a military/veterans discount. Both of their stores are great. Stopped in boy this place is dangerous. Tasted the brittle so thin and loved peanuts. Fudge is super soft and delicious. Got a hand dipped ice cream and oh my goodness, way too big for me but what a treat. The woman working was so wonderful. That made the visit extra special. The store has so many options to choose from its beautifully set up. Loved looking around. Its clean there outdoor benches to sit and enjoy. I will tell you what I stop here with my kids to get them a chocolate dipped ice cream bar a few times a summer.. These ice cream bars are like no other.. it's pretty unreal the amount of chocolate and goodies they put on them. I love this gem of a candy store but I think my sons love it more. Oh how I love my chocolates and supporting a local shop that offers something for everyone's sweet tooth! My family keeps our local dentists working. Lol! I was leaving Dayton last week and decided to stop by for my fix and a few boxes as gifts. I'm still working on this box, but loved the pecan snapper and gold wrapped chocolate mint. I highly recommend stopping if you're near Moundhouse or visit Virginia City. Do visit their other location my personal favorite in Washoe Valley. You can't beat the level of customer service here. That's something you can't get at a chain store. I promise this Candy factory will appeal to your inner child as it does mine. Who doesn't love Candy store? Their stores are very organized and love the ease of shopping in here even when it's busier. They also offer sugar free options conveniently labeled in-store. Took our kids here after seeing a sign for it on our way back from Virginia City. Huge candy shop with a lot to pick from. They have lots of sugary candies. I got some truffles and they were very good. Price is kinda high but it's a novelty place. There is an open window where you can sometimes see stuff being made but sadly nothing was being made when we were there. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to come here but it was a fun little stop for the kids. read more

Great customer service. I was greeted as soon as I walked in AND given a sample of the chocolate fudge and peanut brittle. The woman who helped me was friendly, professional and represented the business well. Large selection of sweet treats, all kinds of yummies. I opted for 1/2 of pound of fudge, no nuts. I also grabbed a bag of sesame snacks (crunchy salty), and a box of taffy nuggets (salt water taffy). I could have bought more things, was tempting. The girl who cut and wrapped my fudge was very sweet, also great customer service. It was fun asking questions, the answers and historical information plus chatting about Nevada. What a fun place. The sesame snacks hit my spot earlier and now, 5 hours later I just ate some fudge. OH MY GOODNESS! If you're in the area, stop in, you won't regret it. If you are in the Nevada desert and craving some dessert, mosey on down to the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory. This review is for the Mound House location closer to Dayton, but the other one in Washoe City is equally awesome. Parking is generous under the giant sign and wagon. This is a traditional American style candy shop with a huge selection of sweet treats. The setup is mostly self serve with a small counter to create custom boxes of chocolates. They have taffy, fudge, chocolate candies, items dipped in chocolate, brittles, and boozy candies too. You can also get various sodas and water and some factory rejects at a lower price. The candy is really damn good. Everything is handmade with high quality real ingredients. On my trip, I got an assorted box, a liquor truffle box, and some peanut brittle. First off, the brittle was amazing with a light texture and no sticky fingers! The chocolates were also really good with excellent flavor and texture. I've had the taffy on previous visits, and the flavors are fun and enjoyable. Prices can be a bit high these days, but you are paying for quality. Some of the novelty items are interesting, especially the chocolate shot glasses. The location is a bit remote, but it makes a great stop when heading to Virginia City. I recommend stopping here last as their chocolate has no additives and will melt fast. This location is not too far from South Lake Tahoe either if you get a hankering by the water. Maybe you can get some chocolate bunnies on your way to the Bunny Ranch too. Overall, the Chocolate Nugget is a great stop for anyone with a sweet tooth. We got some truffles while we were here last time, usually we just get fudge. The truffles were so delicious!!! Specifically, the amaretto, baileys, and dark chocolate truffles were tasty! Normally for me, truffles with alcohol in the them are overpowering but I did not feel that way about these it was just the right amount. The dark chocolate was so decadent! Also, on site there is a window where you can watch the action in the back happen. It's a great feature to be able to see where they are making the tasty treats at. I love that it's a local place so we know just where it comes from and support local. It's a little pricey, but for me it's a nice treat and worth it. read more

Fun stop after leaving the Virginia City area heading South. I came upon the huge sign out front that says "CHOCOLATE" which had me making a split decision to veer to the left into the parking lot for a short break. Inside I was the only customer mid week and the nice lady behind the counter offered me some samples. I walked around, asked a few questions and picked out several yummy looking homemade chocolate items and bought them. So far I've only had time to try the homemade peanut butter filled chocolates. "Richest Chocolate In The West" Located somewhere between Reno/Virginia City and Carson City. There is nothing near this chocolatier shop. Zipped right past it then hubby turned around, made a U-turn and next thing I knew I was drooling over the chocolates on display. Chocolate is my kryptonite especially with nuts or almonds, they are my favorite. Unfortunately, right now I can't have them... am waiting, four more months until my braces come off. This family owned chocolate and candy shop make their own homemade caramel, peanut butter and marshmallow cream. There are so many selections to choose from. They have them in plain Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate. Then there's a variety of Patties (which are basically Turtles), Pecan, Peanut, Almond and Cashew. They make several kinds of Bark, Almond, Macadamia, Pistachio, Mocha Cappuccino and Dark Chocolate sprinkled with Sea Salt... and Fudge! what's a chocolate store without fudge!! Then there's a whole section of gourmet taffies. 44 flavors to choose from! My daughter likes the fruit flavored ones so we filled a bag of her favorites at $6.95 for 8-oz. They also have them in sugar-free! One of the ladies had mentioned that they make these from scratch, hand-pulled, stretched and individually wrapped. Wow... taffies made with love! For now we just purchased treats for the kids but we plan on coming back to this side of NV again and make a stop at this yummy store! This is a fantastic stop for any sugar-lover looking to satisfy their urge. They have plenty of chocolate products to choose from, including delicious fudge. The latter of which we adventured toward and walked away with. They also had various candy and ice cream products to choose from as well. Also, the customer service is fantastic. We were assisted by a wonderful woman that worked there that was incredibly friendly and added to the overall experience. From there we made our way up to Virginia City where we found a few more fudge/chocolate spots. One of which was closed, and the other had a representative that didn't really care to be there (or, at least it seemed that way) leading to us walking out with nothing and being even more satisfied with the fact that we stopped at the Chocolate Nugget Candy Factory on the way up there ahead of time. Four stars because the wonderful service. The lovely woman working seemingly alone around 2 pm Sun. Oct. 29th was so so sweet. However not as sweet as the vegan chocolates they sell. The taffy was delicious, and the whole store is homey and cute. But my fiancé is allergic to dairy and a chef. So we found their house made chocolate bars, one bite had him puckering with how sweet it was. For anyone else it's a wonderful place. Anyone dairy free just know you'll like it if you like a sugar bomb. read more

CHOCOLATE?!? A well executed U-turn with screeching tires, and we found ourselves smack dab in front of this place. Not surprising when you have me in the car. We walked in the door only to be greeted by a charming lady bearing free samples of fudge or brittle. Jalapeno (yep, green) fudge. Coconut brittle. White chocolate with walnut fudge. Strange offerings, so I only sampled the white one. Hmmm good. Before us, a large store. Counters, bins, shelves, filled with God's REAL gift to women...chocolate and candy. A bazillion types of taffy, chocolates, nut brittles, even a large choice of sugar free options. And some cute gift items of the non-edible type, too. In the far corner, you could find a limited selection of ice creams. Good idea for a hot dry climate and little prospectors. You will find this diabetics nightmare at the junction of the highway leading to quaint Virginia City. Sorry I cannot give them higher than 3 stars, but we didn't buy anything today (we already had fudge sitting in our trunk). But it sure smelled good, and looked good, and they made us feel really welcome. read more

A huge bonanza fan so on my latest trip to Tahoe decided to finally go see Virginia City. On the drive there this gem is an oasis in a vast "dessert". When you walk in they have Willy Wonka playing its really cool. The people working here greet everyone with a hello and warmth. They have so many samples too. They need a lesson in customer service. I have ordered here a few times as I have a friend in Carson City. The last time I called to place an order the lady was as rude as can be. I asked if it was possible to get next day service? It was a pretty large order. Her Reply was NOPE. That was it. No explanation. I asked her why and she said I am Busy. We went in here and the staff couldn't have been anymore kind, generous and helpful. Jace greeted us when we walked in the door and Tina kept feeding us samples galore. I love when people at the stores I go into are kind and friendly like these folk. I bought the sponge candy and I wanted the gigantic jawbreaker but opted not to because I think I must have lost my mind. I really should have. They showed us videos of the candy in the making as well as being so proud of the owner who is also the chocolatier. We wanted to abscond with the lovely copper kettles but were told they weren't for sale. Le sigh. I will definitely be back! I make candy myself and I know their candy is exceptional and tasty. There are a few things they totally have going for them: - old timey side-of-the-road nostalgia - enormous location - anything you can imagine in sugar form - freshly popped popcorn for $.75 (most reasonable and cheap thing they sell-- also the best) And then the things that make me never want to return: - prices are insane! - half the store looks like it has been sitting there for months, if not years. They might even dust this stuff off, - the chocolate looked mediocre. I tried the fudge which was okay, but nothing to write home about. The chocolate shaped into letters, horseshoes, cars, the shape of Nevada is "cute", but it also makes the chocolate seem cheap. - kitsch for sure. If I were taking over this joint, I'd offer LESS. I know it seems crazy, but the options almost make you crazy and makes you think they specialize in truly nothing because they have everything that is all just mediocre. Sell a really cool few things that people rave about and they will keep coming. I did see a woman come in there just to buy a $5 frozen banana. So there's something. But really, I just wanted something fresh and solid and found that... in the popcorn. read more

Just ask for Hannah Hannah is so knowledgeable and so helpful she is such a sweet young girl I would gladly come back again just for her business. The owner should definitely think about giving her a raise or making her some kind of shift leader. Because she is wonderful and very engaging. I got the huckleberry ice cream pop which is amazing. Amazing without the extra dip. I also got a Root Beer float which turned out to have a lot of ice cream in it which is rare. Local business that provides really good chocolate. We enjoy many of their offerings but the best has to be the triple dipped malt balls. We prefer the milk chocolate - when you find them buy a couple of bags - but they also have dark chocolate. You put a malt ball in your mouth, wait 10 seconds and your mouth is covered in velvety, smooth, lusciousness. Have taken these to parties- gone in minutes. My family in SoCal requests them for every visit. They also have good taffy, English toffee, caramels, peanut brittle, and horehound, which is hard to find. This is LONG over due. I really need to get better at my Yelping! :) I don't know where to start. My husband and I stopped inside on our way to Yosemite and the woman working was the sweetest! She let me sample whatever taffy I wanted (which was a lot) and I got to sample the fudge, OMG! The fudge was delicious. There were also samples of jalapeño peanut brittle. Seriously?! Jalapeño peanut brittle ?!?!?!? I was sold! After getting a large bag filled with tons of taffy (PB&J was my favorite), 3 different kinds of fudge, and jalapeño peanut brittle; I found it... a chocolate bacon candy bar! I LOVEE bacon and I love chocolate, so I grabbed one of those (AMAZING!) The chocolate was good and there were actual pieces of bacon in there.
