My child has seen Dr. Amrhein in this office since birth. She has always been pushy and condescending to me as a concerned mother but she seemed knowledgeable. At his last appointment (17 months) she tells me my child has an over-sized head and needs to have an ultrasound. I looked at his charts and they have had this on his charts since he was 4 months old, but didn't say anything then when it would have been easy to do an ultrasound. There were no other symptoms, just a big head in correlation with the rest of his big self, but she tells me she's sending him for an ultrasound to check for "masses or fluid on the brain". So, worried at that point, I comply. We got to the office they ordered it from and the ultrasound tech was just as confused as we were, stating that they don't usually do that procedure on a child his age because the soft spot is almost entirely closed and that she was confused why the doctor ordered it in the absence of other symptoms, that he seemed perfectly healthy. He didn't cooperate and yet I received a call from this office saying he was completely fine, big surprise... so this was very concerning as to the knowledge and professionalism of the doctor--sent up red flags.
Well THEN a few months later, I call to schedule my son an appointment just to be informed that his account is closed. They transferred me to a manager who said the provider chose to terminate the patient client relationship and that she sent me a letter certified mail to let me know. One, you have to sign for certified mail, so they would have known I didn't receive it, and didn't bother calling me to let me know or anything. Two, I was obviously upset at how an office can do something like this and the manager says "well we're a private practice, so you can be mad if you want, but we can do whatever we want". No explanation from the doctor. Just a statement from the manager that maybe the doctor didn't like me. Seriously?
Oh, and let me just say that before all of this and before we got my older daughters in to see Dr. Amrhein, she was on vacation and we brought our 6 year old daughter in for a check up for a tonsil surgery that we were considering. She saw a new younger blonde doctor, can't remember her name, but at the end of the appointment, this doctor my daughter had never seen told her she needed to look at her privates. She got upset and I told her it would be okay because she was a doctor and tried to be supportive of whatever this doctor was trying to do, assuming it was normal procedure, and then she tried to physically push my daughter's legs open when she resisted! It was the worst thing I have ever witnessed a doctor do and come to find out there was no reason for her to even look down there. We seriously considered legal action against this office at that point.
